Plot Summary:
Aladdin is a street-urchin who lives in a large and busy town long ago with his faithful monkey friend Abu. When Princess Jasmine gets tired of being forced to remain in the palace that overlooks the city, she sneaks out to the marketplace, where she accidentally meets Aladdin. Under the orders of the evil Jafar (the sultans advisor), Aladdin is thrown in jail and becomes caught up in Jafars plot to rule the land with the aid of a mysterious lamp. Legend has it that only a person who is a diamond in the rough can retrieve the lamp from the Cave of Wonders. Aladdin might fight that description, but thats not enough to marry the princess, who must (by law) marry a prince.

A little Aladdin crazy....The first time I saw Aladdin, I was in 10th grade. Well, I was hooked and then I saw it 25 more times, I even wore out my VHS. I had Aladdin everything and still do, so I am sooo very happy they are re-releasing it on DVD. I believe this is one of the best Disney movies ever. |

OverestimatedAnd here we come to the second worst Disney film, only topped by 'thelittle mermaid'. The music is fine. Disney, you know? But the animationcannot be actually be called beautiful or the like, and the story ishasty and has no substance, the villain a stereotype, and the ending,as the whole story, predictable.I guess the only good thing is the genie, and Iago and the flyingcarpet perhaps. You see, the minor characters are to a certain degreefunny and amiable, if you can call genie a minor character, butAladdin, Jasmin and Jafar are shallow and kind of boring. Therefore four out of ten stars (quite clement), paying tribute togenie and the music. |

excitedThis review is from: Aladdin [VHS] (VHS Tape) Bought this movie for my young daughter. She was very excited about it. It's alot cheaper to buy vhs of course so we are buying them up. When I received this in the mail i could not believe it's condition. It was like i went to the store and bought it brand-new on the day it came out. The seller said it was like-new so i was expecting the case to be worn and the movie front faded but it was in perfect brand-new condition. Very happy and will use this seller every time I need a movie. |

It juggles a '90s impudence with the old Disney swank and heart. |

A massive Disney entertainmentThis movie is very close to being one of the best Disney films I haveever seen. There was never a moment where I wanted to turn away fromwatching this hugely entertaining picture of wild improvisation, stunning animation, subtle-comedy, and scene stealing characters. RobinWilliams played an excellent jet fuelled Genie and until now I neverthought of him as much of a singer, but he really had me kicking to thebeat of "Never Had a Friend like Me". And that was just one of the manysongs I loved in this movie. I also enjoyed that song "A Whole NewWorld" It had a very beautiful motion to it, I can see why that won anAcademy Award. And what about that guy with the twisted beard and thestaff, Jafar I think it was, he was such an awesome villain, he had allthe qualities of a perfect bad guy, and his genius was well backed upby that sarcastic loudmouth sidekick Iago, he cracked me up. Aladdin isone of those movies that you never get tired of watching. Sure itdoesn't have that heart-warming storyline that made other movies like"Beauty and the Beast" famous. But it does have a lot of appealingelements to it, making it one of the best Disney movies ever. |

one of the best disney animated moviesAlladin is one of the all time best Disney animated films. The story is sweet and satisfying. It is romantic but not too mushy for a kid to watch and of course has perils along the way. The music is great and fun for both adults and kids to sing along with. In addition to my love for the movie, my 1.5 year old daughter likes it as well. Families with members of all ages can enjoy this movie together. |

The best Disney movie, EVER!Aladdin. It came out when I was 13, and I have always loved it. Its byfar the funniest Disney movie, its got the best music ever, and the oneof the best Disney villains too. I had to watch it 9 times in a two dayperiod at work, because they were playing it in the electronicssection...I didn't mind, what a treat!!! The music is fantastic, everysong is funny, and great to sing along with. (Ive got the lyricsmemorized.) Some of the most memorable characters are Jafar, hes sodelightfully evil, and that smart-alec parrot Iago, who is annoying, but has such great lines and keeps getting flattened. I also love theSultan, Jasmines father. Hes cute, and very typical of a worriedfather, and he is quite funny. The best character IS of course theGenie. This movie has great effects, even for back in 1992, lots ofadventure, and I highly recommend it! |

New Classic Disney EraThis review is from: Aladdin (Two-Disc Platinum Edition) (DVD) The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast were all part of the Disney revival. Right before Pixar and the huge advances in computer animation these Disney movies have a look, character, and beauty that is hard to beat.Aladdin follows the classic fairy tale for the most part and like the other 3 movies mentioned above the music and score are also incredible. Voice talent was well matched and the humor from Robin Williams and Gilbery Gottfried gave a spark to the movie. |

Perfect illustrationMany of you have probably read that one of the problems with Disney'sanimated films after about 1965 or so is the too-great reliance onwell-known actors doing the voice work. "Aladdin" clearly illustratesthe problem. Instead of using the script and skillful animation offacial expressions and other movements to give the characterspersonality, the current generation of Disney animators relies onidentifiable actors to supply the personality for the characters in theprocess of the voice over. Thus, the Genie, voiced by Robin Williams, overwhelms and dominates the film as Williams tends to do in any filmhe's a part of. The Genie becomes a fast-talking hip comedian. Great, though it seems more than a little out of place in the context of thegeneral story of Aladdin and his lamp. A similar observation can bemade about the parrot, Iago, voiced by Gilbert Gottfried. Of coursethis is a children's film, but it seems to me that the presence ofWilliams and Gottfried dumbs this story down rather significantly, turning a story intended to be about the mysteries of the Middle Eastinto a western pop culture fest geared toward short attention spans. Iguess Disney studios has a rather low opinion of kids these days, ormaybe a low opinion of what they need to inject into films to entertainthe parents taking their kids to see these movies. |

Atmospheric and intelligent, yet a little blandThe Walt Disney Company's 1992 movie "Aladdin" boasts an intelligent screenplay, great songs, and the huge climactic battle we have come to expect from Disney-adapted fairytales and legends. Yet, there is a crucial element missing that would have taken this production from being a very good modern Disney flick to being one of the all-time great animated films from the studio. For every good choice in regard to vocal casting, there is either a corresponding bad choice and/or negative consequences. For example, Jonathan Freeman is an excellent choice to voice Jafar, the evil sorceror. Silky and cultured, yet also dripping with malice, Mr. Freeman creates a classic Disney villain with his vocal performance. To voice his parrot, the cleverly named Iago, Gilbert Gottfried is absolutely the wrong choice. Mr. Gottfried's trademark high screaming voice can be very humorous under the right circumstances, but these are not the right circumstances. The movie is not tonally suited to the comic. Scott Weinger's earnest, simple performance as Aladdin is perfect, but I wish Robin Williams had played the genie with a shade more ambiguity and darkness instead of the over-the-top comedy that is strongly in evidence here. The sharp contrasts between the respective good and evil characters do not favor the movie in the long run. Also featuring the vocal talent of the late Douglas Seale, The Walt Disney Company's "Aladdin" is very, very good. However, a few different storytelling and creative decisions would have made it great. |

Excellent movie- best Disney movie EVER!This is an excellent movie and should be one of the best of all Disneymovies. It has fabulous animation and wonderful characters. All theactorsdo a great job, especially Jasmine and Aladdin. I do not agree that justRobin Williams job as the genie "saved" the movie, because the movie plotalone is fabulous without thinking of the voices and acting. It usesexcellent animation techniques and a great plot. Excellent for childrenwith cute songs! I highly recommend. |

The next to last great Disney animated film....Aladdin has a little bit of everything....a princess....a charming lower-class man...a funny genie....an evil villain...and a right comedic little parrot. This is the next to last great Disney animated film (just before THE LION KING) before political correctness and fear settled into the Disney corporation. The color and animation are vividly done, the music is outstanding, and who could forget the timeless classic by Regina Belle and Peabo Bryson, "A Whole New World". Yes, this is definitely a modern classic...right next to SNOW WHITE, SLEEPING BEAUTY, FOX AND THE HOUND, and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. |

Its ethnic "white" noise is really just an excuse for Robin Williams to put on the most elaborate, narcissistic circus act in the history of cinema. |
