Why is this marketed to little kids???Silly question. Its because there is money to be made. I have never seen a movie that made me want to get off the couch and rip it out of my DVD player and break in half but this movie made me want to do that. First off, my perspective is as the mother of a 2 and 5 year old so I want to make sure that they aren't picking up bad words or attitudes which is what this movie is full of. The alpha's mother is the scariest pick of the lot which is strange because it seems as if her role is for comic relief. She switches between goofy ditzy 50's housewife with no clue to making scary faces and saying things such as telling her husband to rip someones tail off and stuffing it down their throat, threatening other wolves that she'd rip their eyes off and stuffing it down their throat, etc... I'm not a big Disney fan although I do allow my kids to watch it. I appreciate their adult tongue in cheek humor even as I roll my eyes at the product placement and stereotypes of the sexes and body perception. I don't believe that just because something is in cartoon format, then it must automatically be kid friendly. I never really realized how clean Disney humor can be without overly offending, frightening, or imparting violent attitudes until, well I saw it done by another cartoon. As far as animation goes, it's nothing like the CGI that comes from Pixar or Disny. Quality isn't there. |

A Wasted Opportunity to Teach About WolvesAlthough the movie's plot and animation at times try to depict thewolves and their world realistically -- which is when it mostentertaining -- most of it is silly, contrived, anthropomorphicnonsense. It distorts facts such as there is one alpha couple who leads the packand not two groups of alphas and omegas, the pack is actually anextended family, there is only one omega member, etc. But the worseaspects -- despite the plot's good idea of wolves being relocated byhumans -- are the silly clichés, the characters acting like canines oneminute and as humans the next one, and the animation that makes theanimals look like stuffed toys. The Omega male is an irresponsible immature slacker who uses largepieces of bark as boards to ride down the slopes. The Alpha female isresponsible and mature, hunts for the pack and is ready to sacrificeherself for the sake of the pack. The alpha males of two feuding packsarrange a marriage of convenience between their offspring to unite thepacks. The hero and heroine are saved by a duck and a Canadian geesewho is an avid golfer. Wolves do R&B howling...This movie does not come even close to a Disney or a Pixar. Instead, itmakes Bambi look like Citizen Cane and The Fox and the Hound likeAvatar. It is a pity the makers resorted to such a phony sillinessinstead of trying to teach children about wildlife with a truer senseof wonder. |

Alpha & Omega Rules!!!! (Possible Spoilers)Here are my views on this very good animated film from producer RichardRich (The Fox & The Hound, The Black Cauldron, The Swan Princess, TheTrumpet Of The Swan):The Pros: Fantastic characters, excellent voice acting from suchwell-known Hollywood names as Justin Long (Live Free Or Die Hard, Alvin& The Chipmunks, Planet 51), Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), Danny Glover(Lethal Weapon, Pure Luck, Angels In The Outfield, Operation DumboDrop), Vicki Lewis (Home Improvement, NewsRadio), Christina Ricci (TheAddams Family (1991)), and the late, great Dennis Hopper (Easy Rider,Hoosiers, Speed) (in his final role), and a lot of humor and heart. The Cons: The animation could have been a little better, there's alittle mild sexual innuendo (the lines about repopulating, but it's notall that bad), and an unnamed minor character says "oh my G**" in oneline early on (which as a Christian, I find highly offensive, but thatcan be muted when the film comes out on DVD/Blu-ray or censored with TVGuardian), and there's some potty humor, but it's very very mild andkept to the absolute bare minimum.Overall, Alpha & Omega is a pretty good animated film and you shoulddefinitely go see it! You'll laugh and may even shed tear or two! Itmight not be completely on par with Pixar or DreamWorks, but it's stilla great must-see film. |

Another retarded, poorly written cartoonI know this was made for little kids, but the messages it instills in their little formulative, impressionable brains is just plain terrible. This is a movie about wolves, but it overtly teaches children it's perfectly alright to be judgemental, superficial, arrogant, violent human beings.Kate is the cool, proud, strong, sophisticated Alpha wolf that is responsible and dutiful. Humphrey is the lovable loser Omega wolf that spends his time joking and playing around. Hump likes Kate, but she ridicules and looks down upon him. Any friendship between the two would not be tolerated. Instead Kate is expected to hook up with Garth, another stud Alpha wolf from a rival pack. Their marriage will supposedly unite the packs and end the pointless feuding so all the wild dirty dogs could chomp on some yummy caribou together. This basic, uninspired script is not really a problem. Arranged marriage? Primitive, but hey they are wolves. The constant wolf bickering and fighting is pointless, but it does accurately reflect human nature. It's also no big deal that the wolves get frightened by a pack of caribou and are forced to eat berries and cupcakes. What I found preposterous and harmfully derogatory was the divisive mindset portrayed here. Even when captured by hunters and expected to repopulate a national park, Kate looked at Humphrey with contempt and disgust. She refused to go slumming and give it up to the loser wolf. That right there teaches girls it's okay not to do their duty and spread 'em. Wrong on so many levels.Alpha and Omega had so many howling bad lines and silly developments. The visuals are pretty bland as well. Plus a basic story you've seen a hundred times before, mixed with negative messages to brainwash our kids. Am I overreacting? Yes. But still, there wasn't a great deal of effort put into this film. Save your money. |

"Alpha & Omega"- A cartoon about wolves traveling across country and changing the order of the pack. Fun love story.I say B-, My Kids say A.Cartoon about 2 wolves, an alpha (Panettiere) and an omega (Long),whoget relocated to Idaho and there journey back home. Two wolves that areunable to "be" together get captured and relocated to another parkhalfway across the country. They set out for home with help from somevery funny friends. Being a kids movie not much really to review,(except my kids really liked it). For the adults who watch this Ireally found it to be a metaphor for a class based system of the havesand have-nots. I may have read too much into it, but it makes a goodpoint of love conquering all, no matter who or what you are. Deepenough? There were some really funny scenes in this but it isdefinitely a kids movie. Adults won't be totally bored, but don'texpect "Shrek" type humor in this. I give it a B-, My kids give it anA. |

Wonderful, wild, wolf film!Cute film whether you see it it 3-D or not.Alpha and Omega has a fairly simple storyline. Wolves Humphrey and Kateare from different packs. Humphrey is an Omega and Kate is an Alpha, but that doesn't stop Humphrey from having feelings for her. On thenight of the moonlight howl "The wolf way of courting another mate".Humphrey tries to meet up with Katy and he does but Katy isn't fallingfor it. However they end up being tranquilized by Fish and Gameofficials and end up being relocated in Idaho, or Idawho if yourHumphrey.Along the way they try to get back home and have some goofy birds helpthem get back on their way. They need to do this because a member ofanother pack wants Katy to marry his son Garth, whom Katy has nointerest in but he ends up with someone else you'll just have to waitand see. Garth's father tries to unite the packs together by thismarriage but it isn't going to happen anyway because when Katy andHumphrey get back home they have ended up in love with each other. Thisdoesn't fly well at first but it all gets sorted out in the end.Although Alpha and Omega is a great film the movie lacks goodanimation. I thought the worst thing about the movie was some of thecomments from Katy's mother. They were way too violent to be in a kidsmovie. Also some sexual innuendo is not appropriate either but notnearly as bad in some other animated films. This film got many bad reviews. My guess is because of the pooranimation and some other things I mentioned above. However I love themovie and there are many others who do as well. I would take this overThe Lion King any day. |

Maybe they should consult someone.OK seriously???? I study wolf sociobiology which is the study of socialstructures and behaviors. I couldn't watch the first five minuteswithout beginning to point out problems. They got a lot of the packstructure wrong and the way that wolves show dominance was poorlyportrayed. One of the main things is tail posture. Dominant wolves havea high tail posture while subordinate wolves have a low tail posture. The Omega, there is usually only one or two, will often keep its tailbetween its legs especially when around an "alpha" male or female. Also, "moonlight howl??" It is a complete myth that wolves howl at themoon. In fact, most "howling sessions" occur in the early morning orlate in the evening. In terms of the story, it was boring andpredictable. The dialog was forced and over dramatic. I was veryexcited when I heard of a movie all about reintroductions of wolves. But this movie got it all wrong and made reintroductions seem like badthings. Better luck next time. This movie sucked! |

Not just kids' stuffTo cash on the popularity of newly discovered animated movies and therising popularity of Alpha and Omega is viewed as a cash cow. What acon game!!! With regards to the story, it simply fails to connect withthe children. A simple linear story could have been identifiable withkids, but the story starts off on a wrong note. Even my son feltdisenchanted within 30-minutes. As for me, the movie seemed to be arehash of Lion King.Well, the secret which has been unveiled now throws quite some surpriseas it is revealed that the animation film Alpha and Omega is neither anIndian product nor has it been made in collaboration with anInternational animation house. Instead, Percept Picture Company hasclaimed the rights of a US film that goes by the name of Alpha andOmega.Meanwhile, the buzz is that Akshay Kumit will be dancing to the latesttunes with supermodel Naomi Campbell for the shooting of a promotionalvideo for Alpha and Omega. Joining them will be his wife Twinkle andBollywood starlet Lara Dutta. The actor has already worked with a lotof Hollywood biggies like Sylvester Stallone, Preston Routh and SnoopDogg for his other movies. |

Uniquely terribleThe guy killing birds with his singing was the only good thing about this movie. And even then, after a while it wasn't funny anymore, because they played the card way too long. It is almost insulting just how bad this movie is. They don't even have accurate pack dynamics, they just pulled it all out of their butts and expected us not to notice. The writing started weak and ended weak, the voice acting was mediocre at best, and I could swear watching this movie gave me temporary cancer. Don't waste your money or your time on this travesty. The combination of poor storytelling and random toilet humor make this is the worst animated film since Eight Crazy Nights. I want my On Demand money back! |

Neither Alpha nor Omega, Clocks in at about SigmaAlpha and Omega (1:28, PG, 3-D) — other: talking animals, 3rd string, originalI feel a little sad giving this movie a 3 (which matches up to theadjective "bad" on my 9-point scale, just above "awful" and"execrable"), because it's not as if it's really offensive, irritating, ugly, loud, stupid, or any of the other things that normally nets arank in my bottom 1/3 — the "avoid these" bunch. But it just isn't verygood, so my advice has to be to skip it, despite its kindly intentions. It's an animated pic about 2 young wolves, Humphrey (Justin Long), theomega (bottom of the pecking order), and Kate (Hayden Panettiere), thealpha (leader of the pack, or at least in training for the position*).It's part of the movie's simplistic conceit that there aren't anywolves in the beta-thru-psi range. Furthermore, the social gulf betweenalpha and omega is such that they may be friends but are never, neverallowed to, uh, howl together.Yes, that is the awkward bowdlerization that the film uses to let theadults know that these 2 hormone-filled teen-equivalent wild animalsmay in fact be inclined to have carnal knowledge of each other, whileostensibly protecting the sensibilities of the little kiddies inattendance. In furtherance of this latter objective, we get anembarrassing sequence in which the wolves actually do engage in apathetic imitation of howling, supposedly to satisfy their innatelongings for this shared intimacy. As tension builds between the eastern and western hunting packs overwho gets to raid the caribou herds of Canada's Jasper National Park, our heroes are shot with tranquilizer darts and trucked off to theSawtooth National Wilderness of Idaho, where they are expected torepopulate the region. This too is discussed on screen with muchhemming, hawing, winking, and nudging. (Really, screenwriters ChrisDenk and Steve Moore, if you didn't want to talk about sex in front ofthe urchins, you should have made the movie about something else. And,directors Anthony Bell and Ben Gluck, depicting them sans genitalia isno more convincing than those udders on the bulls in Disney's Home onthe Range.)The problem is that Kate's, um, paw was promised in "marriage" (yes, that's what they call it) to Garth (Chris Carmack), the effectiveprince of the eastern pack, in a union which would supposedly unite the2 clans in peace and harmony. But when Kate disappears, Garth's dadTony (Dennis Hopper, in his final role) accuses his opposite number,Winston (Danny Glover), of trying to prevent the merger so he can keepthe meaty resources of Jasper for his own followers. Why exactly thisis contingent on the princess materializing at the appointed moment isnever explained; if you think it's hard for adults to figure this out, imagine how bewildered the tots are going to be.Anyway, Kate and Humphrey, upon being decanted in Idaho, immediatelylaunch into Homeward Bound mode, abetted by the comic-relief birds, abalding Canada goose golfer with a French Canadian accent and hiscaddy, who I think is supposed to be a British duck. Right about hereis where you get the impression that the characters were created bythrowing darts at a thesaurus. The wolves spend a lot of time standing upright, engaging in the kindof somersaults that would do credit to an Olympic gymnast, sleddingdown hills inside hemi-logs, sampling blueberries, wearing flowers, andoccasionally advocating vegetarianism. Aside from that, totallyrealistic.I saw the movie in 3-D, and it was used effectively rather thangarishly. The depictions of the forest in the background were reallyquite good. The animation itself, however, seemed cut- rate, over andabove having it done in Mumbai. For example, everyone concedes that furis an animator's biggest challenge, and this movie had lots of it.Crest Animation decided to fake it by showing the fur in clumps whichnever moved internally and only moved minimally with respect to eachother. Expressive features like eyes, mouths, and snouts were donemediocrely. (I concede that I've been spoiled rotten by DreamWorks andPixar, and that Crest is still kilometres better than Hanna-Barbera.)My best advice? If you want to see a really, really GOOD movie aboutwolves, go out and rent Never Cry Wolf, but stay away from Alpha andOmega.–––––––––*Since we're suspending disbelief here, we graciously concede, for thesake of political correctness, the possibility of an alpha FEmale. |

no story, no plot, sometimes funny, no decent plot .. wait for the DVD.OK this one, not good at all. this movie is entertaining but verypoorly written. it lacks many things. it looks good, the 3D thing andall the colors and cinematography, but i did not felt attached or thekind of connection i usually feel watching animated movie. its silly, boring, dull. avoid it. some kids will enjoy it though. there are somescenes which will make you laugh. the movie lacks a good story or adecent plot. There may be a few questions from the kids on the ridehome, but this is an otherwise harmless and mostly forgettable entryinto the bulging 3-D animation marketplace. As with any movie, thiskids' film is only as good as its writing -- the jokes, the cute bits, the heart. And that's where Alpha and Omega comes up short. seriouslyavoid it or wait for the DVD. |

Dull, flat, and forgettableIs it just me or is it weird seeing Lionsgate distribute an animatedfilm theatrically? Lionsgate is pretty much known for distributingR-rated horror (it's responsible for both Saw and Hostel) and even somemartial arts flicks (The Forbidden Kingdom and The Transporter series). While they have released animated films in the past like Happily N'EverAfter and family films such as Akeelah and the Bee, Alpha and Omegastill feels like a really awkward fit for the studio. The problem withanimated films Lionsgate releases is that they always have this directto DVD quality to them and that is most likely the first thing you'llnotice about Alpha and Omega. There are so many animated films out there that are so completely dull, lifeless, and lacking emotion and inspiration. Alpha and Omega is allof these things and corny right from the starting line. Animals usuallyfall into a certain rank; the alpha is at the top while the omega picksup the scraps at the bottom. The alpha tends to be the leaders, get toeat first, have choice of prey, choose their mates, etc. The omegas arethe followers and eat last. In Alpha and Omega, the alpha wolves areapparently like flashy jocks and the omega wolves are the carefree fratboys who care about nothing more than having fun. You know those stupiddance-off movies? "I'm going to break-dance with a poor girl even ifyou don't like it to help battle your brain cancer and save thatburning orphanage!" This is kind of like that. An alpha neverassociates itself with an omega! Well grandpa, get off your dinosaurbecause they do now.The lameness doesn't stop there though. There's a slow motion sequenceat the beginning of the movie that seems to sort of spoof The Matrixexcept it's two wolves. That can talk. Defying gravity. For no reason. The jokes are beyond stale, as well. There's a scene where a hunt forcaribou goes wrong and the wolves are on the receiving end of a cariboustampede. After it dies down, the alpha wolves are getting the shortend of the stick and the omega wolves step in to break up the scuffle. At one point, an omega wolf named Humphrey (Justin Long) points outthat the caribou are laughing at them. A group of caribou is shownflashing their tales at the wolves to which Humphrey replies, "That's amoon even I don't want to howl at." Speaking of Humphrey, the entirefilm seems to be an excuse for him to complain about his butt or histail or anything in that general vicinity.Canada is also apparently a place to find empty tree carcasses at themost convenient at times. Hollowed-out tree trunks are used as luges agood half a dozen times in the movie and are usually the reason acatastrophe is avoided. The musical segments in the film came off aslazy. Whenever a wolf howls at the moon they sing, but there are neverany lyrics. It's nothing more than a variation of "ooo's". Throw in theweird rip-off instrumentals from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" andyou've got something really peculiar on your hands. The French-Canadiangoose who's obsessed with golf and his duck caddy that is also achiropractor came off as a little more than unnecessary. They're givenan ounce of character and a few quirks and they do nothing more thentell the main characters information they probably could've figured outon their own. The whole experience is just very disheartening.Want to hear something that's really going to make this depressing? This is Dennis Hopper's last film. His final role was wasted on acranky wolf with back problems. If it wasn't for the fact that this waslabeled as his last role or the dedication at the end of the movie, this lifeless character wouldn't be memorable at all.Alpha and Omega is a pretty forgettable animated feature. The animationis underwhelming, the voice cast is fairly lifeless (but who can blamethem with the material they were given?), and the storyline is reallyjust run-of-the-mill fluff. It's also kind of a travesty that thismovie has to be labeled as Dennis Hopper's last performance. While thismay be fun for some children, it'll be a lethargic trip for adults. Ihonestly think my eyebrow was cocked for the entire hour and a halfduration. |

Insidepulse Movies - Mike NoyesToy Story was the first computer animated film released in theaters over fifteen years ago and as amazing as that film looked, the technology has improved by leaps and bounds over the years making CGI films look better and better. So why does Alpha and Omega look so amateurish compared to what came over a decade before it?Read the rest of my review here:[...] |

The Favorites on Alpha and Omega.I thought this film had similar resemblence to the film 'Lassie'.They both contained an exellent storyline, good strong emotions and the most important thing of all.Humour.Alpha and Omega has a good sence of storyline, drama and I found a good strong piece of it romantic and humourous at the same time.My favorites within this movie would be the main parts and the howling scene. This is so ramantic that it made me cry at the emotional bits. And trust me it isn't easy to make me cry, espespecially from an anime film such as this.My favorite scene would probably be the whole train scene where their howling together. But then again there are ups AND downs in this film.As much as it add's descent comedy and romance within it.It doesn't really carry to much in depth from the experience. When I went and viewed it for the first time in 3D yesterday.I found it quite a thrill to watch. It made me both laugh and cry around the same time.I would recommend this film for anyone who like's animation film such as this.It is a U also so I would suggest going either with afew mates or as a family to go see this. |

Are they humans in wolves clothing?Great animation requires at least good voice choice and creatures that take your imagination to fantasy that leaves you dreaming. This film was poorly voiced in that the actors chosen sounded more like humans acting like humans. The script and storyline sounded and looked like watching humans in wolves clothing. Just one example: a young female wolf is walking away with hips swaying back and forth and a young male wolf is ogling the view as only a human would understand. Storyline was weak with the predictable good wolves - bad wolves competing for territory; a journey by two young wolves from both packs; hinderance by humans and help by other animals until the denouement where, of course, everyone ends up friends after all. Animation/graphics were a decade old and nothing to remember; in part, I think, because they were subcontracted to some obscure studio. |

Boring, even for a 4-year oldI've taken my 4-year old son to several movies (Toy Story 3, Princess and the Frog, Mega Mind, Despicable Me) and he's loved every one of them except for this one. He was bored with this one. There's not much in it to entertain adults either. There are better choices out there, folks. This movie earned a second star from me only because the animation and 3-D effects were pretty good. |
