Good for Girls and Boys

I feel that this movie is different from so many others in that itshows a family of girls who actually care about each other. They mayhave faults, but bitterness and put-downs have no place with thesegirls. Try to find that on TV or in the usual movies. It is a breath offresh air to see girls being feminine--wearing beautiful, femininedresses and shoes. Contrast that with the apparel in stores today, i.e.raggedy and faded jeans and jackets, etc. The story line has an evilthread running through but that is what makes it more realistic andinteresting. I know that it is animated, but it still gives you afeeling that families can stick together and come out okay. I wouldrecommend this movie for boys and girls alike.

Genevive and her 11 sisters find themselves thrown into a world without color or fun, but they find an escape where they can dance all night.

This movie was very cute and totally little girl appropriate. My nieceshave watched it non-stop since they've gotten it, and as a result I'veseen it nearly 4 times all the way through. I can't get enough of it.The CGI images are great to watch, the humor is good, and the balletportrayals are excellent. Although the story line has a few holes, nolittle girl will pick up on them, and as an adult, the movie is socharming that one hardly even notices. Just keep in mind that it is aBarbie movie, and, though cheesy at times, in my experience, this onelives up to the high standard which the other Barbie princess movieshave set for it. I would recommend this to anyone who has a little girlwho has always wanted to be a princess. It teaches a good lesson aswell. Everyone is special and different in their own way, and everyonecan make a difference.

What I love about movie!

This Movie's about 12 Beautiful Princesses who love to Dance until theKing summons his Cousin the Duchess(Of Doom)to teach the Princesses howto be Proper Young ladies, But the Duchess makes the Princesses livesmiserable by banning Dancing, Singing, and everything the Princesseslove dear from the castle. But not all was lost when the Girls hadtheir Mother's story about a Magical Kingdom Comfort them after theDuchess made some changes around the castle (Including the Girlswardrobe) later that night the Girls discover a magical world wherewishes come true through the Mosaic of their bedroom floor. The Girlswere having fun dancing for Two nights unaware that the Duchess haspoisoned the princesses father so she could be Queen, and it was up tothe Princesses and the Handsome royal Cobbler Derek put a stop to theDuchess's evil plans! My favorite part of the Movie is when thePrincesses go into the Magical Kingdom sometimes I wish I could gothere.

Charming and well-animated

This is a nicely-done story with pretty music, lots of dancing, lots ofbig sister/little sister interaction (almost all of it positive), andlots of wishes granted. There are funny moments that older children andadults will enjoy, such as when King Randolph exclaims, "They're justSHOES! Aren't they?" And tender moments such as when Princess Genevievecomforts her youngest sister, Lacey, after a blunder.The animation is perhaps not as good as Disney, but it still is verygood. The facial expressions are nuanced, particularly for Genevieve,King Randolph, Duchess Rowena and her servant, Derek the cobbler, andlittle Princess Lacey. My only quibble on the animation is in the dancesequences where the dancing princesses become absolute carbon copies ofeach other without the slightest deviation -- even the three youngestcopy the dance steps perfectly. I would have liked to see a little moreindividualism in the dancing, considering that these girls are notprofessional ballerinas or chorus dancers.The resolution of the story is handled cleverly to get rid of avillainess without actually hurting her. There is some violence done toguards in the story, and the villainess's monkey is mean to otheranimals in the story.My 4-year-old daughter loves this movie and has watched it repeatedly,and I have found it to be quite acceptable for her to watch.
