Story Line

Plot Summary:

A mythic motorcycle tale of father and son, this is the story of Manuel Galloway, also known as the King of Cali, the president of a motorcycle club whose members are all African-American men, mostly white-collar workers who exchange their suits and ties at night and on weekends for leather outfits and motorcycle helmets. The focus of this story takes place at an annual drag-racing event in Fresno, as Manuel tries to retain his championship title.

Great Movie

Not sure what movie the other person was watching, but i enjoyed thismovie very much. I also am not sure if they've ever rode on amotorcycle before but some of the tricks are not as easy as they look.I had no problems following the storyline and it is definitely one ofthe better motorcycle movies that i have seen. i am, however, unawarethat a movie about motorcycle drag racing and bike gangs needs to haveexplosions and fancy effects. This isn't one of those "fast and thefurious" movies about trying to catch the bad guy with illegal racingintermingled simply to make the movie stand out and have appeal. I doagree though that some of the race scenes appeared to be at 30 mph. Allin all its a good movie and if you're into motorcycles, its especiallygood.

I bought the DVD - Now I'm selling it on Ebay!!!

I took the chance and bought the DVD without seeing the film first. I knewit was a gamble but the idea of the film seemed good. As a biker, I knewthat I would just have to like it. How wrong I was.....Rather than waffle on I will sum it all up:1. It is directed very poorly, with several lame attempts to try and bealternative and radical.2. The storyline fails to maintain a very low standard and stoops to thelevels of being suitable for a coma victim.3. The bike action scenes - well I think there were some but I blinked halfway through so I may have missed some of them? The one saviour is that the DVD is above average and the menu's and sceneselections are better than some major releases. In summary, it is very unlikely tha you will find this film entertaining andas one review put it, you will be sooo releived when the final predictablescene in the film has come and gone.Recommendation: Dont bother!

Half-decent plot buried under a squidfest

I'm sure there's a Greek tragedy or Shakespeare play with the same basicpremise: Son aspires to be one of the great princes instead of a courtier, son loses father, son disappears, only to return as the heir apparent tothePrince's crown and all that.... such a plot has such promise. But when you bury it under a bunch of expensive sportbikes, T&A shots, andjuvenile stunts... blech! As a moviegoer, I thought this was barely worth the matinee price. As aShakespeare fan, I thought it overdone, washed out. As a motorcyclist, Ithought it shameful (Passengers in shorts, spaghetti-strap tops, andheels?Racing w/o helmets? Stunting on a public freeway, in traffic, at night? These are NOT the role models you were looking for...) I will point outthat a FEW lines in the movie did hint to the dangers of riding, especially'extreme' riding. The crashes were definitely hopped up (not sure if a500lb superbike would sail spinning thru the air like a frisbee...) but nopunches were pulled as to how badly you can get hurt on these things ifyou're not careful and FOCUSED. And Fishbourne's character, althoughdefinitely the most bad-ass in the whole bunch, showed how far skill, finesse, and restraint will go beyond blind luck, guts, and adrenaline.Thatis to say, he was on top the whole time, even to the lastframe. With the budget this film had (pretty much, the bikes alone are eachworth20G's or more) they COULD have made something with more emotional impact, more story, and a LOT less gratuitous teenage hormone inducer. So, if yousee this movie, resist the impulse to go out and get a bike. The realworldain't like this at all. Riding like this in the real world will getsomeone(probably YOU) killed.

As films go, it's as bad as an Elvis movie some of the time and better than an Elvis movie, but not by much, the rest of the time.

Horrible!

Saw this in a preview, thank God it was Free! It doesn't have the sex, story, or visuals to make it interesting! Rollerball for 2003! Theendingalone was enough to make you gag! Fast and the Furious was a masterpiececompared to this!

Biker Boyz Summed Up - Simon Jago

My name is Simon Jago and below is my review of 'Biker Boyz'. I have nointention of elaborating my comments but have to produce a minimalamount of words in order for my comment to be published. Here's the back story to my viewing experience of 'Biker Boyz'. It waslate on a Saturday night and I was writing my Dissertation for uni, andturned on the TV to have something on in the background. 'Biker Boyz'started and I thought I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and leaveit on, boy was I wrong:REVIEW: 'This film is nothing more than a collection of establishedblack actors, exploiting themselves in a horrible fast and the furiousrip off with bikes.'BEST BIT: The tunnel vision that Laurence Fishburne uses to filter outthe nonsense in the film to enhance his racing in a straight lineabilities. SPOILER: THE OTHER GUY LEARNS TO USE IT AT THE END

Wasn't as bad as expected; but still pretty bad

... My Comments:I was really expecting a very shallow movie that was all about big bikes and other big parts of human anatomy. I wasn't really disappointed, but I was surprised that the sexual content was minimized (though the objectification of women was not, though there was at least one attempt to objectify a man too) and that there was an attempt to create a story here.Of course, the story wasn't very good, but I have to at least give them some credit for trying. There are a number of plot holes and coincidences in the story that just don't make much sense. The archaic twist that Kid is really Smoke's son wasn't at all surprising - this has been done a million times (Star Wars). Kid also illustrates that he has virtually no morals when he tells his mother that he won't race anymore then turns around and races about 2 days later. There's also the race with Dogg, which just kind of happens without any explanation. It's kind of obvious that this is really just an attempt to keep Kid Rock involved with the movie. And worst of all is the sudden change in Kid's attitude when he wins the race; as though beating your dad will make everything better... I don't know who came up with this idea, but it was pretty silly. As for the acting, Lawrence Fishburne is a pretty good actor, so he actually had a positive influence on this movie. Derek Luke, on the other hand, has a lot of growing to do. Especially bad was his scene with Tina (Meagan Good), where he goes from not having a relationship with her at all to suddenly making love to her - I didn't see that coming. There was no development of their relationship. One minute Tina is telling him she doesn't even know who he is and the next she is going for a ride of her own. Some of the other peripheral actors, Soul Train (Orlando Jones) and Motherland (Djimon Hounsou) in particular, were pretty good, but they didn't have to do much. I should also note that despite the majority of the characters being black, this doesn't really fit into the 'black movie' genre, at least, not entirely. Whereas movies like 'Friday After Next' are full of Ebonics and black-oriented jokes, this is a pretty straightforward mainstream movie that doesn't seem to be catering specifically to a black audience. I was a little surprised by this considering the predominantly black cast, but probably shouldn't have been. Because I have never really been able to appreciate black-oriented humor (I'm sorry, I just don't get it), I found the lack of it in this movie to be a relief. Overall, I don't think I would really recommend this movie, but if you like motorcycles, you might enjoy it. Some of the acting is okay, but most of it isn't. And the story, well, it's horrible. I watched it because I thought it was going to be horrible and because it claimed to be better than 'The Fast and the Furious'. I don't really think it was, but then again neither movie was really all that good, so it doesn't mean much either way.

Vrooom, Vrooom!

Sue me, I like this film. The casting of young and mature Black actors and B-list actresses (Meagan Goode, Lisa Bonet, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and Salli Richardson) make this a treat to watch. The bike tricks were cool and the storyline, while predictable, was enough to keep me interested. There's nothing groundbreaking here, just mindless entertainment, but it works for me.

Just awful

I have never been subjected to such an awful peice of trash that makes youwonder if it can even be considered a motion picture. After seeing this, youmight even wonder what idiot wrote this script. Its a Fast And The Furiousripoff, only on bikes, and the movie tries to add drama, like making theraces seem so meaningful, eeveryones' life depends on it. When you finallylose your mind and kick and scream for it to end, its really justbeginning.Through thinly detailed plot lines, the movie seems to stretch for hoursonend. Part drama, part action, part comedy ALL CRAP

Clunky dialogue, MTV visuals and average performances rob it of the potential shown by the very occasional good moment

Kid is the son of Tariq aka "Slick Will", engineer to Smoke, who is theleader of the Black Knights motorcycle group and a legend on thestreets. When Tariq is killed in a motorcycle accident, Kid drops offthe scene for six months but returns determined to become more thanjust a prospect. His ultimate aim is to challenge Smoke himself andmake his mark by taking down the biggest dog there is but first he mustgo legit and set up his own motorcycle gang with friends Stuntman andPrimo.Opening with a really nice tracking shot (or series of shots, I'm notsure) this film had my interest early on but very quickly blew it. Withan obvious and predictable establishing scene, the narrative arch isestablished and thus I began my weary trudge from start to finish, through countless music video scenes, unconvincing dialogue scenes andloads of motorcycles. It is very basic stuff and it never aspires tomuch. The characters are cut out of cardboard and the dialogue isawful, this might cut the mustard if the film was an out and out actionfilm but it isn't. Instead it is supposed to be a character driven filmand thus it is a big problem for it to not have characters orconvincing dialogue. Sadly it is a mess in regards the writing andplotting and only the forgiving will find the material worth two hoursof their time. The action is pretty weak. I didn't think any of the races wereexciting and although they are well done, all of them could have sorelyused the emotions of the characters to feed into them. As it is thefailure of the plot means that much of the film is lacking and feelsrather pointless. Occasionally it hints at depth and humanity but theoccasional spark is totally drowned out in a sea of noise. The musicvideo goals of the film are met but personally I'm glad not to be inthe demographic sector that is tricked into thinking that this makesfor a good film. The cast are mixed, containing people that I expected better from andpeople that deserve stuff like this. Fishburne may well have expectedmore from the film because at times you can see him reaching, sadly hecannot achieve the impossible and any glimmer of a good performance isswamped. Luke struggles from the start. He is pretty and charismatichere but he can't deliver emotion and understanding that isn't in thescript and his narration is terrible. The support cast are roundlyaverage with obvious performances from Jones, Hounsou, Fehr and others.Good is sexy but pretty vacant while I'm not sure why Bonet bothered toturn up for so little.Overall then a fairly pointless film that shrugs off any characterpotential it may have had in favour of MTV visuals, clunky dialogue andmostly average performances at best. You can see the potential in thestory but across several aspects the film fails to deliver thispotential and just churns out a totally unnecessary film that doesn'tdeserve any of your time.

very entertaining movie with a strong story anchored by great performances from the lead actors

very good movie.it's about motorcycle street racing, but there is morethan that going on.the movie is also about relationships, love and thestruggles it takes to get to where you want to be.to me,the story wasvery deep and anchored by some very fine acting performances.the twomain characters are played by Laurence Fishburne and DerekLuke.Fishburne is "Smoke"champion Street racer who has never,(as far asi could tell)been beat.he holds the title of "King of Kali" and is theleader of "the Black Knights",one of the racing teams..Luke PlaysKidd.an upstart young man who wants nothing more than to dethrone"Smoke".of course it will not be easy, maybe even impossible.who cantell.if you wanna know more, you'll have to watch the movie.the onlything i will say is that there is a revelation which adds a newdimension to things.there are of course some very nice motorcycles andsome good racing scenes.there are also some crazy stunts that areamazing.and there are some hot babes.when you put all that together, itmakes for quite a show.i would have to disagree with the low ratingthis movie has.sometimes it boggles my mind and i wonder what peopleare really looking for in a movie.i know everybody has their ownopinions and movie tastes are(usually)subjective, but it is still noless mystifying. For me,"Biker Boyz" is a 9/10

Really nice Bike-Stunts!

In fact, the story is very low! But the ultimate plus in that movie . .. ahh come on, tell me . . .! Right, the bike scenes! All of them! I was 21 as I saw the movie and i bought a Honda CBR600'99! Now I'm 22 and I love to ride my devil on two wheels! It is a small (600) Bike but with an top speed of 278KMH, really enoughto take! I live in Germany so, no speed-limits--> think about that!Driving on the highways around my country as fast as possible! With my club of 12 Biker BoyZ/GirlZ! It is really fun! No one wants tobe the Fu*** best. we all just drive together! After all being a biker is cool and fun!

A little far fetched and only slightly entertaining

Even though it gets off to a very slow start, by the end of the movie youactually start to believe it was possible. Not the best action movie byfar, and definately not a "Fast & The Furious" knockoff! That couldn't befarther from the truth- but if you're truly bored and need to see amovie, this one may do.

Good movies

I just finished watching this movie with my husband. We liked it. All of the action and drama made this movie worth watching. I think anyone who likes movies or are into bikes should watch this movie.

Another Fast in the furious by in bikes!!

Its like every movie that has come out , tries to resemble another previous big hit but in this case, they always fail. This movie was exactly like fast and the furious but the only twist was instead of cars, they are on bikes. This resembles another movie Drumline, when it tried to resemble bring it on, from cheerleadering to the band. This is a poor effort of a storyline.

Should have been more involving than it is

Did you ever wonder what happened to the kid (that didn't get his facesmashed in with a rock) who was in the notorious exploitation movieFIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE? Well, he moved behind the camera to become aproducer, writer, and director, and BIKER BOYZ is one of those efforts.Seeing it, you have to wonder why Dreamworks Pictures green-lit it -it's far from their usual standards, and even for the subject matter itconcerns, it's not very involving. To be fair, the movie is nicely shot(brightly lit and eye-popping colors), and the camera-work andchoreography at times show that some time and planning was done attimes. The script also has the nice touch in that there are no real badguys, just more ordinary that each have their unique flaws. But themovie lacks punch and excitement - the plot is slow-moving, and eventhe racing sequences come across as surprisingly bland. Not a terriblemovie, but with its good parts and bad parts combined, it equals apretty bland viewing experience.

Like most of the Westerns it was patterned after, Boyz is disposable entertainment.
