Story Line
Plot Summary:
BUGABOO is a Silicon Valley film. It has been produced by people who live and work in Silicon Valley and who have prospered with the high-tech boom of the nineties. The Internet and the personal computer, while creating Silicon Valley, have also created armies of well-paid Indian professionals who lead a curious existence as professionals they constitute the epicenter of Americas recent growth binge, but as individuals they continue to stay inside cocooned, secure Indian communities which are quite divorced from all things American. A group of such engineers defies the even flow of this existence by introducing random disturbances into their lives. These deviations from normal routine punctuate the film until they finally lead to a grand deviance, unthinkable for sober, law-abiding engineers from India. It is then, at the end of the film, that they discover simple solutions to seemingly complex problems in their lives.

Officially the worst movie I have seenThis was being shown on AZN (previously international channel). For therecord, before I say anything about this movie, I must say that I loveindependent movies and usually like low budget movies. But this was anexercise of tolerance. I have seen bad movies, bad in certain aspects.However, this movie hits on lows on every front. The writing ispathetic, acting uggHH.. , every character is miscast. The castingseems to have been done at the local Indian grocery store. Movies inthis genre have the added advantage in background scores of being ableto try fusion music, however, this one sounded like they combined cellphone rings together. This movie could have been nice, given thepremise.. (like Office space, and other similar comedies )The rest ofmy Sunday can only be better. |

Avoidable at all costsThe movie is a series of staccato shots with no apparent co-relation toany central theme. Most of the scenes depicted do not do justice to the average Indian inthe bay area. There is a nerd (Murali) who always keeps sharpening hispencil and drops the pencils in his hand whenever someone says a word.There is another scene of a potluck party where there's this guy keepsstuffing food in his mouth. If the intent is to show a single guygorging at potluck parties, at least let the guy eat off a plate. And Idon't know many engineers who stuff an entire samosa and a couple ofrasgollas into their mouths at one go. The depiction of these characters (and almost every other character inthe movie) is so unrealistic that a few minutes into the movie, it getsto you. And with an abrupt (and absurd) ending you are left with adistasteful feeling.Lastly the fact that the movie was made on a shoe string budget andwhat is clearly inferior equipment is very apparent. The acting, camerawork, lighting and sound are all pathetic. All in all, avoidable at allcosts.p.s. I have seen a couple of plays by Naatak company and my advise tothem is to stick to drama and not subject unsuspecting audiences tosuch atrocities. |
