Where is Pixar's Magic.....? ? ?Before releasing this movie i am really excited about it but when ichecked the critics review then i need to find out what happened toPixar... so i buy a ticket and watched in 3D.i enjoy this family fun flick but this time i disappointed from pixarthe first one is (CARS) is better than the second part.i am notdoubting the pixars animation in fact animation is superb and whole newworld of cars is illustrated perfectly but i think something missing instory.the staring of movie with super spy Finn McMissile is reallycool...i like his attitude and style.in this movie real hero isMater... because the whole story is focused on Mater instead ofLightning McQueen. i think some part of action is denoted to LightningMcQueen but its not.music i love it... its a one time family fun movie if you like to watch3D animation movie then go for it.the suspense of the movie is great.ihope pixar do their best in there upcoming "Brave"...so i am waitingfor next Pixar movie. |

Great movie, pristine audio is NOT defaultCars 2 is a fine movie. The visuals are stunning and the story is fun. My biggest and really only disappointment with this blu-ray is that the disc is setup to default to a 16-bit 5.1 encoding of the audio track. So, if you have invested in the latest equipment, you must dive into the Languages menu to get 24-bit 7.1 audio. That's a huge bummer and likely the result of sloppy work over at Disney Home Video. |

Disappointing, But By No Means BadSo this is a hard review to write. On one hand, Cars 2 is better than95% of what any other animation studio is putting out (that fivepercent is home to the odd DreamWorks movie that is actually great likeHow to Train Your Dragon, and one-off successes from great filmmakerslike Henry Selick's "Coraline" and Gore Verbinski's "Rango"), but onthe other hand it's a significant step down from the excellencebordering on perfection we've come to expect from Pixar. True, a stepdown from excellence is still good, but considering the pedigree it'ssomewhat disappointing; therein lies my quandary. Cars 2 tells a broader story than the original Cars, taking place inmany locales across four different countries. In Cars 2 LightningMcQueen has just come back from a Piston Cup race and is getting readyto settle down after the end of Racing Season, but all the whileinvitations are being sent for a World Grand Prix, a tournament acrossthree different countries featuring the world's best racers and McQueenis invited. He takes Mater along for the ride and through a series ofcoincidences Mater eventually gets mistaken for an American Spy byBritish Intelligence Agent Finn McMissile (think James Bond voiced byMichael Caine). High speed races and spy movie action set pieces ensue, and there are many fun moments and good laughs along the way. Thevisuals are stunning, as are to be expected with Pixar, and the voicework is just as wonderful as it always is in a Pixar film (MichaelCaine absolutely steals the show). However, there are elements thathold it back from greatness. The whole affair feels very safe and almost unambitious, there'snothing in the film that really wowed me and while I enjoyed myself themovie never really gripped me like other Pixar films do. As a member ofthe audience, I felt like I was just watching a movie rather than beingcaught up in a story, the characters were fun, but I never connectedwith them in the same way I've connected with Woody, Marlin, Flik, CarlFredricksen, or WALL-E; I didn't even connect with Lightning McQueen orMater in the same way I did in the first film. They were entertainingcharacters, but they just didn't have that same spark of life thatmakes them feel real. It didn't have the same magic that I've come toexpect from Pixar. Again, this is my problem. Looking at what I've written, I keepcomparing it to other Pixar films and not looking at it on its ownmerit. It doesn't necessarily seem right to hold Cars 2 accountable forToy Story 2, Ratatouille, and WALLE; completely on its own merit Cars 2is a fun, entertaining film with great visuals and good characters. Ican think of much worse ways to spend a Friday night, and I woulddefinitely be willing to see it again. However, that comparison isinevitable due to the fact that Pixar has established such a strongprecedent of not just quality, but excellence over the past 25 years. As a follow up to 11 of the best films of the past decade and a half,it's a bit of a letdown. It is by no means a bad film, and the currentTomatometer rating it has is an absolute travesty. Pixar's reputationhas not been tarnished and they're still, by far, the best studio inHollywood. Even though Cars 2 is a bit of a disappointment, I think it's probablyhealthy for the studio. I was discussing it with my dad and he broughtup the point that working under the pressure of your audience expectinga masterpiece every single year must be a nightmare, and while Cars 2is disappointing, the fact that Pixar released a film that's just goodinstead of great gives them some more room to breathe. The critics havehad their chance to give Pixar hell (and I'm sure there were many whowere eagerly awaiting such an opportunity) and Pixar was able to make afilm that didn't need to be a masterpiece to be entertaining. So now I've got to put an actual score on this thing. Ergh- I wasdreading this moment... I'm going to cheat a little bit here and givethis film two scores, one accounting for Pixar's history and theexpectations that brings with it, and one that does not. So treatingCars 2 as the followup to Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2,Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille,WALL-E, Up, and Toy Story 3, Cars 2 gets a: C+ Now, judging Cars 2 completely by itself, without the legacy of Pixaras a factor it earns a: B |

Where are all the great bonus features?Cars 2 was an Ok movie, but I'm really disappointed in the bonus features. I use to love watching the hours of great looks behind the scenes Pixar use to include on their DVD and Blu-rays. With each release they become skimpier and skimpier. One Mater Tale, which is only a commercial for the new Pixar show "Planes", the Toy Story short, and a director commentary, that's it! I feel short changed. We use to get tours of Pixar, got to sit in on story conferences, deleted scenes, concept art ect. I guess they are saving that for the double dip. Pixar use to be all about bang for the buck, since Disney took over they seem to only be about the buck. |

Nice, Great if you loved cars 1 and you like real 'cars' in generalThere has been a lot of negative reviews for the movie, sure it is notas charming as the 1st one. But I personally think you should nevercompare sequels to the earlier movies. Sure they have the samecharacters and are in some ways continuations, but for the most of itthey are different movies. If you love real cars then this movie isjust super. It's cleverly funny e.g. The car Lewis Hamilton has a gapin his teeth just like the real Lewis. Besides these small smilemoments there are of course funny dialogs. Watch it! its fun. And thewhole spy element is quite refreshing in a Pixar movie. It may ofcourse make you want to go and see a Bond flick. |

Cars 2! An amazing experience! Now that that's out of the way, me and my family enjoyed Cars 2: TheRevenge of Mater's evil twin "Potater" (as it was called here inGreenland) me and my family thoroughly enjoyed Cars Two. The charactersof Lighting Racing Man and "The Funny Truck" made my sides split fromenjoyable. Me and my family enjoyed the movie, especially when lightingmac queen ends up losing the big race and goes into depressive statewith hilarious results! I also liked cameo appearance from the old guyfrom batman who was Alfred! he has a voice! My family and me enjoyedthis film much! The part when mater dies may not be suitable for somechildren under the ages of 10 and up, but in the end this film isexperience for all! I give cars two Three and a half thumbs! |

Fanaticalaboutfilms Review: Cars 2Cars 2 picks up several years after the first with Lightning McQueen(Owen Wilson) ruling the Piston Cup. This leads him to be invited tothe first World Grand Prix where he can pit himself against the best ofthe rest and in particular Francesco Bernoulli (John Turturro) thecocky Italian stallion F1 car. McQueen's crew led by Mater (Larry theCable Guy) gather together and set out on the trip of a lifetime toJapan, Italy and England to fight for the right to be named the best inthe world. While McQueen is off racing, Mater finds himself caught upin the secret world of government spies and espionage.First off the graphics and world in which Pixar create is stunning withno little detail overlooked. Bringing some of the scenes into realworld venues also helped to show off the talent of the people at Pixar. It was also interesting to see how cars go about your average humantasks such as flying on a plane and even going to the toilet with thephenomenal background detail dragging you into the film- plane pigeonswere one of many nice touches. It sounds strange to say but at somepoints you almost forget you are watching cars. The comedy level was good throughout and with a good (although somewhatpredictable and disjointed) plot that hugged the Bond style templateclosely this has many things going for it. I don't think it's an outand out kids movie and would probably stick it in the young adultsection but as with most Pixar, it transcends all the age boundaries. The real problem I found with the film is that although the environmentis great, it's quite hard for the graphics team to be overly expressivewith the cars themselves which lead me to not connect with thecharacters as much as I would have liked. If you don't feel for thecharacters then the rest of the film starts to fall away beneath you. Also the plot is split into two separate stories so that at some pointsit feels like you are watching two movies rather than one.Mater, while he worked well as a bit character in the original seems tobe the main character for this which is a role less suited to him. Heis a simple minded car who gets most of his laughs through slapstickwhich works well in small doses but not so much for the entire film. The lack of progression in character development from the first to thisone also lets the film down with the lessons merely being relearned bythe same characters again.Out of all of Pixar's creations, I have always felt that the Carsfranchise was the weakest of the group and Cars 2 has failed change myopinion. Yes the graphics are some of the best yet and the world isvery immersive but as characters go something was lacking and the wholeidea of the film didn't gel. Considering this is their 25thanniversary, I would have expected the cream of the crop but insteadwas only treated to a just above average performance. The graphics dragit into a higher rating. For further reviews feel free to check out:http://www.fanaticalaboutfilms.com |

Walked out after 20 minutesMy 4 year old daughter is a huge Cars fan. She has literally been counting down the days to see this movie for the last 6 months.20 minutes in, with her hands over her ears, she said, "I'm tired of watching this". (She watches the original in it's entirety over and over so she doesn't have an attention issue). We joined the many other people with young kids who were walking out. In that 20 minutes it was almost wall-to-wall machine gun fire and explosions, and twice someone said "Kill him". As parents we were very disappointed in the violence. Had the same movie involved people instead of cars it would have been rated PG-13. As it was I thought it should have at least been rated PG. |

My 7 year old got boredIn the family we're all big Pixar fans. We loved all their movies, knowall their shorts, even use lines from Finding Nemo. My son was a bigCars fan.We sat through Cars 2 but none of the Pixar feel was there. The visualsare spectacular and detailed, but the spy story itself is tooconvoluted and ultimately uninteresting and the humor is crude. I thinkwe laughed twice during the whole movie. By the end my son was "yeah, whatever". Later that day we watched Rio and we enjoyed it much more.Cars 2 is not only inferior to other Pixar movies, it's inferior toother new animated features. Cars was never the strongest Pixar piecebut it had enough sweet childish fun to be enjoyable. Cars 2 looks likea different company with no clue tried to copy the concept. |

A beautiful anti-American environmentalist hallucination. So, you've got an evil clandestine organization of Pacers and Gremlins (made by American Motor Cars) who work for an evil German monocle wearing stereotype who together are sitting on the largest new oil field in the world (owned by the Americans and defended by US Navy Independence Class frigates) and some british spy cars that are trying to defeat them. Americans bad. Big oil bad. The irony is that all these adorable cars are trying to get rid of the fuel they were designed to run on because they'd rather run on "alternative fuels" that don't exist yet, much like so many Americans want to run away from their own greatness for some utopia wonder-world that exists in their imagination. Oh, and since this movie has dredged the 1970's for some of the most awful cars, how about some exploding Ford Pintos? I would have added another star if I'd seen some of those. At least try to see it once before you pay cash for a clunker. |

Not Pixars best, but it does what it does very well.Just before "Cars 2" gets underway, a message on the screen reminds usthat Pixar Animation Studio is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Thisreally is something to celebrate. Since "Toy Story" back in 1995, Pixarhas been turning out one great top-of-the-line animated picture afteranother. These animators aren't satisfied to just throw off a bit ofweekend entertainment, they are making films that are going to beenjoyed and loved for years to come."Cars 2" isn't their best work, but it does what it does very well. Itdoesn't have the emotional pull of "Toy Story 3" or "Up". Nor does ithave the originality of "WALL-E" or "Ratatouille", but what is has is alook and an energy all its own. Unlike so many sequels that cynicallymarch along through a clone retread of the original, "Cars 2" expandson the idea of the original and takes its story on the road."Cars", you will recall, took place entirely in a universe where carsare the dominate species and featured the adventures of speed junkieLightening McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson), a hot-shot race car who gotstalled in Radiator Springs where the way of life was a lot slower thenhe was use to. "Cars 2" leaves Radiator Springs behind and shows usthat this world not only involves living, breathing cars but alsoplanes, trains, boats, construction vehicles, you name it. It kicks offwhen get involved in the European World Cup championship where his archrival is an Italian Formula One race car named Francesco Bernoulli(voiced by John Turturro). That car race is only a small bit of the film, however. Most of thestory is taken up Lightning's best buddy Mater the Tow Truck (voice ofLarry the Cable Guy) falling into an exciting spy adventure. Materaccompanies Lightening to Europe as part of his pit crew, but hisuncultured manner (he mistakes wasabi for Pistachio Ice Cream) gets himmistaken for a secret agent working undercover. A James Bond-ish AstonMartin named Finn McMissle (voice of Michael Caine) is on the case withhis girl-Friday Holley Shiftwell (voice of Emily Mortimer). They aretrying to uncover a plot by old gas guzzlers to give alternative fuelsa bad name. Mater, through his accidental incompetence, uncovers thescheme.Where the first film centered on Lightning, this one becomes Mater'sstory. He and Lightening have a disagreement over Mater's country-friedmanner and that sets off the much larger spy plot that is far moreexciting than I thought it would be. Plus, I'll admit that the mysteryhad me going. There is a surprise at the end of the film that I didn'tsee coming. Maybe I was too distracted just looking at the backgrounds. The movie has wonderful gags that are surprising and funny especiallywhen Mater is fitted with voice activated weaponry that is set off byhis country vernacular - especially when he says "Shoot!" What isspecial about "Cars 2" is that, like "Kung Fu Panda 2" earlier thisyear, it opens up the world created in the first film and takes itsstory in a new direction. The canvas created here goes to Japan,France, Italy and England where the frame of the film is packed withhundreds of different kinds of cars and car in-jokes, many of whichwill be missed on the first viewing. The animators were generous withtheir visuals, allowing our eyes to find small details in the cornersand in the backgrounds so that this world seems populated by more thanjust the characters in the center.I love the new characters, in particular Finn McMissle, a JamesBond-style car who sneaks around on pulleys and wires and has an arrayof dazzling weaponry. I loved the shiny Holley Shiftwell who loves onMater in a sweet little romance. I love the German auto villain withhis large monocle. I even loved the Pope Mobile, which rides around onthe back of, well, another Pope mobile."Cars 2" may not be Pixar's best film but it is miles ahead of mostanimated films I've seen lately. The writers and the animators reallytried to create something special here, not just a movie that gives usour money's worth. They created a fun, exciting world here madecompletely out of cars and fueled by their imaginations.***1/2 (of four) |

The original is always the bestThe original is always the best. Cars 2 was not as bad as the criticsare making it out to be. It may not have been one Pixars best films andthey usually knock their movies out of the park even when they aresequels but what does it matter if the critics and adults don't likeit? After all these movies are for kids and if the kids like them thenthey succeeded. Even though I didn't enjoy it quite as much as my 5year old nephew did it shouldn't matter what I think. He loved everyminute of it! That is their target audience so Pixar did well onceagain. I kind of liked that this story was about Mater and not McQueenand that new characters were introduced. That could have been whycritics didn't like. I also liked that they go outside of RadiatorSprings and travel the world. |

Better than the first in many ways !First movie was way to slow, way too boring, quite depressive. this one is more for the older kid to adults. has an espionage theme to it ( ala bond) cool funny jokes, non-stop action, and 90 % of its all about mater. ive never liked mcqueen that much, his personality is not that fun anyway. as for the cons, i found the movie to be in the stereotipical side. asian cars are small, mater of course its the typical redneck, theres a part were mater turns into a taco truck & says something in spanish, that sort of thing. if you get offended by this sort of thing, not the best choice. its all done in the light of humor, so overcome it & laugh about it. way better than first, i wish the 1st never existed but thats just me. |

If you liked Cars, you will enjoy Cars 2I'm 34 years old and I went to see the movie with my 2 nephews (10 and5 years old) without knowing anything about the storyline.I went to the theater after reading some bad reviews (and some good),probably my expectation lowered a bit but I can't believe how peoplecan give vote below 6 (for me it is an 8): Did they expected acompletely new Fable with teardrops at the end ? Are they disappointedby their own expectation because they think that every new movie mustbe more spectacular than the one before ? Have they watched too muchtrailers ?I enjoyed everything of Cars 2. My nephews too. Very nice graphics fx,speech (at least in Italian), audio fx, lots of action (never boring),nice story, nice new characters, nice end. It deserve a nice vote.If you liked Cars, (and if you don't hate action movie), you will enjoyCars 2. |

A Rare Missed Swing For PixarOn the surface, it didn't seem like there was much cause for a directsequel to this franchise, but given their track record I had to givePixar the benefit of the doubt. In reality, it didn't take long forthose early worries to be confirmed. This is like a jumbo-sized TVepisode with incredible production values but a weak, redundant script.Where the original was, clearly, the worst of Pixar's properties, atleast it had an honest message at heart; that the abundance ofinterstates and high speed traffic has ruined the necessity and charmof small-town America, at once mourning and celebrating that lost tasteof cultural charm. By comparison, there's really no reason for Cars 2to exist. It's a straight-up Saturday morning cartoon, shifting fromcaper to caper without the benefit of a discernible moral. And whilethere's really nothing wrong with that - there's an insatiable need forkid's fodder on the big screen, certainly - it's depressing to see itcoming from the same company responsible for generation-transcendingclassics like Monsters Inc., Toy Story and Up. While it'll undoubtedlysell plenty of toys, this was the wrong movie at the wrong time forPixar, and a rare instance of the studio losing ground to thecompetition. |

Imteresting:There are a few problems with Cars 2. Let's get them out of the wayfirst.I hated the theme song with Cars 2. Espionage films contain very goodmusic, but this music stunk. I much liked the original music of thefirst Cars film. (I expected more "country" music but they actually dida very good job!!) But sorry this Cars 2 music is not any good and isquite annoying. There are deaths that occur in this film. Yes people, you say thatDeath is a part of life, but actually! Death is a part of death!! It isinteresting to see cars die just like us (and need to use therestroom?) but it can get annoying. The Hudson Hornet has died beforethis story takes place. They say that the reason why is because of theactor died. It is more honorable to him, and also he has a uniquevoice. 1. There were two other characters, including a Pixar regular, that died. They did NOT kill them off! 2. unique voice? I don't thinkit is impossible to find a replacement. Now I may not be rememberingCars correctly, but didn't the Hudson Hornet's voice sound very similarto Pat Summerall? And so the Volkswagen Type 2 is an importantcharacter in the film. So if he is necessary, why not KEEP The HudsonHornet (or whatever his name is)?! Because sorry but Mr. VolkswagenType 2 is not THAT important.Have we a political agenda, Disney/Pixar? Is it because of the "cool"that is Mr. Hippie Bus that you do not want to kill him off in honor ofthe late George Carlin?! because no "cool" person has ever died from"being cool"? you really think that being a Hippie is that important?!I mean... Cars 2 in a way undermines all of Cars, when it comes to aformer racecar that almost died, and then has been hiding in RadiatorSprings. He teaches Lightning McQueen everything he knows about racing.AND Mr. Has-been racecar is seen in Lightning's Pit Crew, and everybodycheers. And now in the second film he already died. Somebody point me the timein the movie that Lightning McQueen has spent dedicating his Alinolracing to Mr. Hornet. because I don't think that happens! He is prettymuch forgotten altogether in Cars 2! More death? Yes, there is. Thereis this one car that got tied up and exploded into flames. Now for the rest of the film:Cars had an agenda that The Interstates are bad. They are NOT bad. Theyare actually quite beautiful, and Radiator Springs could have simplybuilt itself around the interstate with exits, frontage roads, etc.like every other town does. Cars 2 has this nice view of the world. I love Japan, Italy, and The UKand I also enjoyed all the new characters. Mater found a true friend inCars, and in Cars 2 he found a date. She is also part of a team thatmistakes Mater's knowledge as a spy expert and his appearance as adisguise. There is also plenty of humor. not to mention pop culturereferences such as "Big Bentley". Although Mater is a simple tow truck,he is perfectly capable of being a spy. McQueen gets real workingheadlights, (and also there is a variety of cars including a Headlightsmerchant, whose eyes are located in the headlights, which makes herlook like she is selling eyeballs) Now for the conspiracy: I am not sure I understand it. So there is thisdefective Range Rover named Miles Axlerod that claims to have survivedon alternative fuel. He promotes it in this tournament but sabotagesthe fuel to make alternative fuel look bad. He teams up with variouslemons, who would need new engines because of the transition toalternate fuel...or something. and that makes the lemons hate"Allinol". and then Hippie Bus switches the Allinol Fuel with Pot Fuel and savesthe day. Mater's spy friends visit him in Radiator Springs after therace. This is a nice film. It isn't perfect, but isn't inferior to Carseither. They are about equal. I disagree with people that think Cars 2is the worst Pixar film ever made. |

OK............. But disappointingHaving been a long time Pixar fan, I can say that this is a bigdeparture from other "classics". There is some charm, but for the mostpart the movie is much more violent and complicated than any otherPixar film I can think of. My father in law struggled to follow thestory - and it's convoluted enough it's hard to articulately explain.Whereas Cars had a classy charm to it and a memorable soundtrack, thislacked a likable story and any music that was the least bitinteresting. I can't believe that Cars 2 actually came out of the samestudio. It's not terrible, but you shouldn't see this movie expectingany of the "magic" and innovation that Cars had. This movie is allexplosions and drama. |

Cars 2 ReviewThis review is from: Cars 2 (Five-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) Cars was a classic movie and the second was a long awaited joy for myself and most importantly my two children. My son always wants to watch it. This combo pack makes it so I can have the movie everywhere. 3d at home, DVD in the car, and I keep the digital on my tablet. Overall I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. |

Disappointed...Wow! I usually can assume that all Pixar animation is going to be unique and fun and enjoyable to the whole audience. 'Cars 2' was a vast disappointment. I mean, what was director John Lassiter thinking? 'Cars 2' resembles something Disney just a few years ago may have sent packing to straight-to-DVD (see 'Cinderella II'). Despite many of the original cast members returning (minus the late Paul Newman), and a new voice, Michael Caine, 'Cars 2' reminds me of a mediocre 100-minute Matchbox commercial. I used to own a number of toy cars when I was a kid. I would pretend all kinds of things with them, even having them fall off cliffs. Lassiter apparently is pretending the same way a kid would pretend, except he messes it up. There is an inept storyline, bad dialogue, very little funny humor, and no memorable characters (Owen Wilson's red car plays second fiddle to Larry the Cable Guy's tow truck - whoopie!). I know, this movie was made for kids so that Disney and Pixar can sell more merchandise. I got that. I remember how successful other Pixar movies were like 'Toy Story 3' (great story, great characters), 'Finding Nemo' (great story, great characters), and even the original 'Cars' (great story, great characters). And they sold tons of merchandise. Why make a $200 million movie that spend's little time on story or characters or good dialogue or humor? Somebody at Pixar has gotten lazy. The studio's winning streak has ended. 'Cars 2' is not a good movie. Not just by Pixar's standards as some people suggested, but by animation's standards wherever it comes from. It was almost as bad as 'Shrek the Third', the abomination of all of the 'Shrek' movies. Not as bad but almost. Too bad. Pixar's next film, 'Brave', looks good, and will take us away from sequelitis for a change. I can only hope that 'Brave' will begin another Pixar streak of great animation. |

"Kill Lightning McQueen"!............Inappropriate.I really like Pixar films, but I've always regarded "Cars" as theweakest Pixar offering - I would give that film 7/10.Now this one - Cars 2; I verged on actively disliking this film. Iparticularly disliked the call - given by the Baddies; "KILL LIGHTNINGMCQUEEN". I'm sorry - but this just isn't suitable for the very youngfollowing that a film like this is bound to attract. Not only this; there is a lot of blasting and blaming, cars fall intothe sea and are evidently drowned. There is quite a lot of low/mediumlevel violence. I didn't like any of that and I think it'sinappropriate. There are actively nasty dislikable characters. The film itself is weak. It's sort of about misunderstandings andfriendship, I think. But it comes out all twisted.OK - It's fairly fast moving, it's very colourful. But on the otherside - it's silly and actually a bit boring. The first cars film was very mild and child-like, but Cars 2 goes inquite a different direction, a direction I didn't feel comfortablewith. I'm surprised Pixar have come out with a follow-up like this,it's not like them.I can't recommend this film. |
