Silly and very funny

This is one funny movie based on the Japanese manga comic City Hunter. Iwouldn't call it a comedy, but it sure has been chuckle-mania to me. Somethings about this movie really stand out. First of all, the colors are verybright in this movie, very lively. Second of all, Jackie Chan has the RyuSaebu part down well enough. Third of all, the humor is really great. Fourthof all, there is lots of babes in it, just like in the comic version. Fifthof all, there is some good fighting scenes in it. Jackie Chan always managesto hire actors that never get a break and he brings out the best in them. Inthis case I am talking about Richard Norton and Gary Daniels. I wonder whatthey could do if someone would give them a good script, a real script. Irecommend this movie to everyone. It's funnier than most of the crapHollywood produces. If a Jackie Chan movie is not your cup of tea I thinkyou should give Jackie a break. He is one of a kind and deserves better.AND, if you are a Street Fighter fan you definitely have to check out thismovie. It contains a Street Fighter scene that is way better than the StreetFigher movie with Van Damme. And no knocking on Van Damme because I think heis great, but just got a lousy script for Street Fighter. City Hunter isthe bomb. Definitely not your everyday kind of movie. And if you don't likethis movie go buy a sense of humor because you sure miss that.

What the heck?

First of all, I have grown to like Jackie Chan since seeing Rush Hour and have been renting the videos of his movies six at a time for three weeks straight and was shocked at the stupidity of this film.In the listing on the back cover, it says "Hilarious", but I sat through 50 minutes of the movie and grew sick to the stomach. Jackie seems restrained by the character he is forced to portray. It seems as if this is a comic-book based movie. In that, the most annoying part of the movie is EVERY FIVE MINUTES, Jackie strikes a pose, the action stops and a chorus of girls sing the words "City Hunter" while Jackie freezes in a Vogue.I never finished the movie because I was so queasy that I could take no more. Sort of like the sensation one gets after drinking milk, orange juice, and eating a raw slab of fish that still squirms with its last meal of worms. There is no acting, there is hardly any action, and when the movie pauses for a pathetic song and dance routine on the ship where they cannot decide if they are singing in English or Chinese, that's the last straw. Now available on DVD WITH SUBTITLES

Stick this on top of the other excellent review on the movie'spage!Having survived for years on a VCD copy of City Hunter (It wasn't ONLYavailable on Laserdisc, BTW) with no subtitles, I was certainly overjoyedtofind that it is now available on DVD (Media Asia Distribution/Mega StarVideo Distribution) in all region format with 8 subtitle languages, including English (2 Chinese, Japanese, Bahasa Malaysia, Thai, Vietnamese, and Spanish).

city hunter

overall this movie was very good. entertaining but slow in the beginning i thinketh. whoever wrote the script probably should have done a better job at getting all the characters known; for instance, i don't recall ever hearing the names of the two ladies that were on the boat working with the guy who was throwing the cards...and at some points soundquality was a little funky in that i couldn't really hear over the music they played while actors were talking. Extremely funny during the Street Fighter part - good impersonation :) of cartoons .i think they should have also put the credits in English too, for all the characters because i had to actually come here just to find out who the other characters were :(

The best Jackie Chan movie

I was expecting this movie to be an ordinary Jackie Chan movie, but I gotsurprised. This movie is extremely funny, I laughed my guts off. The actionscenes are high quality acrobatics like usual in Jackie's movies andthere'ssome hilarious scenes like the Street Fighter-scene.I doubt that everyone would like this movie but if you like Jackie Chan youmust see this.

Why are Jackie Chan in this movie?

As usual I thought I was in for a great movie since Jackie Chan was init. My oh my was I wrong. This movie is complete crap from beginning toend. It feels like it lasts for about 3 hours and all those 3 hours arefilled with nonsense. Why is Jackie Chan in this movie? I really don'tknow, but he shouldn't, because the movie sucks. They have added LooneyTunes sound clips in order to make it funny. So when someone in themovie gets hit in the head you feel like you are watching roadrunner, except this isn't funny. I feel really stupid buying this movie on DVDbut just so you know, I will sell it as soon as I can because I don'twant this movie in my collection. So if you are in the mood for somegood Jackie Chan action, don't rent or buy this movie. If you are over14 years old I can't figure out how it would be possible to like thismovie. I rate this movie 2/10

Totally ridiculous, totally entertaining!

I think this was the first "true" Jackie Chan movie I've seen...I was blownaway by the stunts and fighting, but wow, this is ridiculous! I loveit!!!!It's very bizarre, and really colorful. More or less, it's "Under Siege,"but with Wong Jing's typical "anything goes" goofiness! A lot of people Iknow hate this, but I absolute adore this live-action cartoon...I guess youjust have to be of a certain type to enjoy it...and oh yeh, it has thefinest selection of great-looking women I've ever seen in onefilm!

Jackie is BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of my three favorite "Jackie Chan" movies. The other two are"The Legend of Drunken Master" and "Jackie Chan's First Strike". This isthemost funniest Jackie film ever. With some nice stunts and lots of comedyandfighting aboard the ship. Also Richard Norton plays here. This is thesecondtime he plays a bad guy and plays with Jackie. The other time was in "Mr.Nice Guy". I probably havent seen Jackie so funny, action packed, andsmoothwith the ladies as in this film.

Alright distributers, grab this one. This is the film that made me aJackieChan fan. I saw City Hunter a few years ago as part of a Chan doublefeature (with Drunken Master 2) at the Capital Theater in Olympia. I justabout wet my pants. This movie RAWKS!!!! I've waited 3 long years toseeit again, to no avail.Highlights include: a scene where Chan becomes Chun Li from the StreetFighter series. An excellently choreographed scene where Chan battlesstreettoughs on a skate board.Brilliant film.an EEEEEaaaaassssy 10 stars

Not your typical Jackie Chan movie

First off if your expecting a typical Jackie chan movie like Rush Hour then your in for a big surprize. It's a great movie but you have to understand a few things before watching it. One thing is that this movie is a live action film based on an anime. Second you have to understand traditional anime, I don't mean like cowboy bebop or sailor moon. I mean the kind that we can only get with english subtitles. If you like cute anime then you'll like this movie. My favorite part it when jackie gets thrown into a video game machine an becomes street fighter characters. It has alot of action and the female cast gets beat up alot, but they try hard. I enjoyed it because I'm a kid at heart. I hope you enjoy it too.

STICK WITH HK IMPORTS "ALWAYS"

Why American production make HK movies look so cheap? First of all, they cut off so much scene, second of all ruin it by making look act so dumb by English Dubb. ALWAYS stick with ORIGINAL LICENSED HK RELEASE. Be careful with cheap imports, boots, and bulls though.

HOLY COW THIS IS AWESOME!!!!

STREET FIGHTER MEETS PRINCESS BRIDE!!!! this movie is utterly amazing...Jackie Chan as Chun Li is a must...I recommend this for everyone!!!!

2 1/2 For Jackie Fans who want sumthin a bit different.

My reason for this rating is because a casual moviegoer would not enjoy this film. Nor would any Kung Fu movie fans. There are a few scenes which are very memorable, ie- Bruce Lee Move theatre, Streetfighter, and a pretty cool end fight scene. This is one silly film, maybe even a bit stupid and weird at times. My two friends hated this movie alot, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Jackie Chan has done better, no doubt, and this is not for first timers. Its an attempt at creating the world of Anime in a non-animation setting. I appreciate what its trying to do, and it had alot of funny gags that you would find normally in an anime. (FOr example guy characters always are hungry and girl chasing)The fight scenes are goofy, but as always jackie makes them interesting, especially the end fight. This is not for everyone, but its cool to see an Anime come to life like this. HardCore Jackie Chan fans need only apply.

A very disappointed Jackie Chan fan.

This may have been one of those movies Jackie did as a favor to a friend. If so, it must have been a REALLY good friend. This has to be by far the worst Jackie Chan movie since the 1970's. It is silly, sophomoric, and moronic. Jackie does almost none of the of the great stunt work he is famous for. Instead, he just clowns around mugging for the camera like it's some sort of home movie for his friends. And it is not even his voice in the soundtrack. As a matter of fact, the only laughs I had during this movie were the poorly done English subtitles: "Out of bullets! What a miser!"I was expecting something really good after reading these other reviews. To each his own, I suppose. My first Jackie Chan movies were the Police Story series. If you are looking for another one of those, this is not it!This movie makes me wonder why great films like "Police Story" are not out on DVD and most of Jackies worst films are. Save your money and avoid this one.

God awful

I rented this film thinking it was the cartoon. Lone behold, it was aJackie Chan remake of the cartoon. So I watched it anyways thinking thatitcan't be all that bad since I like some of his other films. First of allitshowed a trailer for the cartoon which left me drooling to see it. Then Iwatch the film, man do I regret that. I always here people saying "I wantthe time I spent watching the film back." but I never thought I would sayit. I believe you can learn something from every film whether it is goodorbad. But this film just sucks. The film is dubbed even though you canseeJackie talking english, the backgrounds and action scenes are very lowquality, and most of all, Jackie Chan shows us once again that his humorgets old all because of his lack of acting skills. If you want a goodaction movie I suggest Hard Boiled, or something that you have read aboutand sounds good. I regret watching this film and yes, I want my 90 minsoflife back!!

Funniest Jackie Chan film I have ever seen!

This film is one of the funniest Jackie Chan films I have ever seen! Itis full of comic action from start to finish, including a skateboardchase, quirky shopping-center mishaps, a nice tribute to Bruce Lee, andsome HK pop song. The parody of the popular "Street Fighter" arcadegame was particularly amusing. The whole movie is admittedly a littleweird and I can't really describe it well. It has a bit of a Bollywoodfeel about it, but don't let that put you off. This film is in myopinion, one of the best pieces of Kung Foolery on the planet! If youdo have broadband I would suggest that you check out the trailer on theIMDb database as it gives an accurate perception of the movie.

UNWATCHABLE

I love almost anything that comes out of HK, but even I have my limits. IfTroma ever made a cheapo Saturday morning TV series for children, thiswouldbe it. You know you're in trouble when you're watching a Jackie Chan movie&20 minutes in there still isn't a fight. This ultra lame attempt to bringamanga to the screen fails in almost every respect & the only fun to be hadwith it is if you get the newly released US version & watch it with thehorribly dubbed English soundtrack, where no attempt whatsoever was madetosync up the hilariously dopey English voices with the mouths of theChineseactors. Back in the late 1970s/early 1980s the martial arts genre nearlydied due to a glut of cheap & substandard films. I'm afraid of more cheap&awful substandard dreck like CITY HUNTER flooding the market & making itimpossible for good HK cinema to get released here. With great martialarts/HK flicks like HERO & KUNG FU MASTER (the epic starring Donnie Yen)still without wide US distribution I am afraid this may already behappening. I know if a piece of sh*t like CITY HUNTER was the first HKflickI ever saw I would never bother to see another one.

Jackie Chan is City Hunter

I absolutely love this movie! If you're looking for a humerous movie that you can just watch and laugh, then City Hunter is the movie for you.My favorite part in the entire movie is where Jackie Chan is electricuted and imagines himself in a video game where he can change characters and has special powers to fight of the main villian.I was a little lost however on some of the roles of various characters in the film as I have never read, nor seen the original Japanese cartoon strip from whence this movie was pulled from. But the confusion doesn't really get in the way of watching and enjoying this movie. Just one more little thing; its probally best to watch this movie in its original language as the English track doesn't have Jackie's voice over, unlike in some of his other dubbed films. As long as you don't mind reading subtitles. Otherwise you'll love this movie....after all, who doesn't like Jackie Chan?
