Story Line

Plot Summary:

Release the Kraken! Ah, it could only be Clash of the Titans, the 2010 remake that retains the instruction to unleash the great beastie from the sea. The 1981 original boasted Ray Harryhausens legendary stop-motion technique of animating various mythological creatures--it was his final feature project--and given the cornball approach of the movie in general, that was the main draw. The remake supplies new state-of-the-art special effects (released in 3-D) and a nicely muscular sense of momentum. Sam Worthington (the Avatar guy) plays Perseus, a demigod who doesnt know that Zeus (Liam Neeson) is his father. Perseus is selected to lead an expedition to find and slay the Medusa, lest Zeuss evil brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes, in fine slinking mode) rain down misery upon a seaport--and you just know that means the Kraken is coming. Ye gods, its a mess, and we havent even mentioned the witches and the harpies and the giant scorpions. But if we did, it would be clear that Clash of the Titans is a perfectly dandy popcorn epic, unpretentious and punchy. Director Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2) gets a fine rhythm going during Perseuss trek, and you can even forgive the hokey shafts-of-light-through-clouds look of Olympus. Leterrier also had the good sense to import the marvelous Danish star Mads Mikkelsen to provide mentoring duties to Perseus Gemma Arterton and Alexa Davalos fulfill the eye-candy roles. Its up to individual viewers to choose which they prefer--Harryhausens magically hand-wrought creations (his Medusa sequence is an absolute killer) or the 21st centurys slick computer-generated variations. But nostalgia aside, it would be hard to deny that this is one case where the remake tops the original.

Ignore the critics and go for the entertainment

You will have to ignore the critics for this one!! Sorry but i am a freak of Greek mythology and who dare's to compare this to the mediocre ''Percy Jackson'' this was not an movie for kids!! When the trailer released i was totally excited for this movie and the wait was worth it , i went to an special screening in my city and i loved it! This movie is definitely for the action-junkie type of people's if you want to go there and judge this movie then just don't go!! This movie is mad for entertainment , it going to be entertaining and your going to get entertained! Sam Woringhton was probably the best choice for this, after Terminator & Avatar he is my favourite action hero! Liam Neeson was perfect for the role of Zeus he was magical! his voice , his beard everything! Gemma A. is sexy as hell , can't wait to see her in Prince Of Persia... Talking of Video based game movie's!! This movie had some shades from the video game God Of War which i worship the most it has Greek Mithology and a lot of violence! Seriously overall if you want to go as an critic and start to play ''the big critic guy'' you won't enjoy this movie at all! Please Ignore the critics and go watch this movie YOU WILL BE BLOWN away!! Perfect Note... Loved It!! Louis Letterier did an amazing job directing this one!!

Time I will never get back

I couldn't wait when I heard they were remaking"Clash of the Titans",Iloved the original! But after seeing it I was completely disappointed. What a piece of garbage! The screenwriter completely mutilated themythology of Greece! Harryhausen did it too, but SO much better!Worthington phoned in his performance. Why does an ancient Greekfisherman have a crew cut? I was so bored by the story I couldn't evenenjoy the action sequences. Giant scorpions again! The Kraken again! The acting was wooden. The only reason I even finished the movie was, because I couldn't look away, like at a train wreck! That's time I willnever get back! The only thing that was good about this movie was theCGI. Skip this travesty and watch the 1981 movie. Liam Neeson and RalphFiennes, what were you thinking?

I'm Tired of Being Thankful for Scraps

My wife and I are the biggest geeks for the original CLASH OF THE TITANS (1981). Though we cannot get out to the theater anymore, I waited endlessly to see this 2010 version. This film is fun, no doubts there. Fun in every way, subtle in its humor, light on the gross violence - and Sam Worthington as Perseus is the casting glory of the century. That man is one gorgeous hunk, and you never feel he's Hollyphony like Russell Crowe or Mel Gibson (who is Hollyloony). His understated, sweet performance as Perseus-I'm-Just-A-Regular-Greek-Man totally blasts Mark Hamil's original Perseus to the stars.Aside from the idiot 3D craze - CLASH OF THE TITANS has been visually ruined by it as have many other films - it is in itself murky and difficult to watch at times. The beginning drags like my mother-in-law's caboose, a yawner right out of the original DUNE. Too much yapping ... like my reviews. The basic stuff of the film is awesome. I was very smitten with the Djinns, and had it not been for the double pleasure of the beautiful Worthington and the equally beautiful Nicholas Hoult (A SINGLE MAN, see my review) as Eusebius, I'd have been in love with them. Desert sorcerers, cool! Oil drillers need those guys. The CGI was a bit of a yawn. From Hades' HARRY POTTER black smoke to Gorgon Medusa's face, the CGI frankly sucked. How could they do this movie, at an hour and a half, and still fail the CGI? CGI, as I always say, can be the crowning glory or the undoing of a film. Here it is the undoing, sadly. We were so busy saying how bad it was, I had to go back later for a second viewing to catch the action and dialogue. The cinematography was somewhat amateurish - the live action scenes are mostly shot in a little box of a stage, I know. That, plus bad CGI, is no good combination. It shows terribly here, and I think it takes a lot away from this otherwise great film. What a pity. It's like Eusebius being turned to stone by Medusa.Pete Postlethwaite as Perseus' adopted father is brilliant and wonderful. The whole cast, which I will not list here, is great! That is why I'm so angered by the technical crapola this film dishes out so carelessly. I will add, Liam Neeson as Zeus, all three minutes of him, is the coolest thing I've seen in ages! What I do love about this film is its theological message (yes, it does have one). It's the old query: Where is the Spirit in the Sky when we need it? Why are we forsaken? Why pray, why did my fields dry up and my island sink a few feet? It emphasizes the gods' need for our prayers, yet they are so stingy and cruel to us. It's a powerful message not conveyed in the 1981 film. It has a double meaning: the end of the old Greek pagan world and the beginning of, I don't know, maybe Judaic monotheism. This is an excellent film for kids, I think. They should see this and know its historical context, its meanings for the people who first heard the tales. Just be ready to get them eyeglasses prescriptions when they are done watching this.

Too dumb for words

But then again you're not watching this movie for its great dialog. COTT is a fun movie and it does have some fine battle scenes. All other characters are basically expendable with the exception of Ralph Finnes who does a super job as Hades. This is a weak movie as far as plot goes. The plot, what there is of it, is hard to follow and the characters are mysteries and not well defined. Having said that the scene with Medusa is very enjoyable and is a great battle scene. But sadly, this version pales in comparison to the original with Harry Hamlin. Camp will always beat out bad!

Epic…Failure

It was from the moment when I first heard that they were remaking theClash of the Titans that I became very excited at the concept andanticipated it, and looked very much forward to watching it. I feltthat the original film was awesome, with an amazing storyline and Iloved the special effects by Ray H. It was an exciting, atmospheric andenchanting adventure and I was absolutely mesmerised by it. As a matter of fact, it was the original Clash of the Titans thatreally got me interested in Greek Mythology, and I've enjoyed readingabout Greek Mythology ever since. But my faith was lost and all my hopes were utterly dashed when I wentand watched this new remake in 3D. This was something that I was reallylooking forward to watching and was praying that being in the hands oftoday's directors, they would deliver it justice, and even make it evenbetter that the original. But that did not happen. For instance, I felt that the acting was wooden. There was no emotionor excitement in the characters. Sam Worthington tried to give Perseusan arrogant, hard man, bad boy image, which I felt did not work as theoriginal character was not supposed to be like that in the originalstory. I really think that Sam Worthington was a very bad choice forthis role and was not suited to it at all. In a movie like 300/Troyperhaps he would have been in place, but in the new Clash of the Titans(and as the lead character Perseus??) definitely not. Also in 3D, there was probably only 1 3D scene. The storyline and the characters were different from the original, which was to be expected to some degree, but I felt that the film justdid not capture the atmosphere, personality and excitement and magicfrom the first movie. There was just no humility there and I felt thatthis film did not pay homage to the original.SPOILERS ALERT: In the original movie, Zeus commands the Gods to bestow Perseus, hisson, with weapons of "Divine Temper". And when these weapons are firstfound and tested by Perseus, we see their true godly powers and thefeeling of confusion and excitement of when Perseus first finds andtries them. For example, in the original movie, after the sword isfound, you see the astonishment and surprise on Perseus's face when itsuddenly cuts through solid marble. In this remake however, you see nosuch thing. This time, not only is the arrogant Perseus not surprisedor excited/bothered that he is the son of Zeus, God of the Gods, butcares very little for the divine celestial weapon that is imparted tohim by Zeus. Instead he is instantly ready to discard as a mere trinketby giving it to his colleague. I was also disappointed with the scene in which Pegasus, the mythicalwinged horse, makes his first appearance. In the original movie you seehow Perseus hears about the mythical beast and lies in wait for it andeventually captures it and earns its trust. But this did not happenthis time. This time Pegasus was just ready and waiting for him as agift from the Gods I felt that that the Director just didn't want toput in more effort to make this into, what could have been a muchbetter scene. One of the scenes that I was looking forward to most of all was thescene with Medusa. But was very disappointed when watching it as Medusadid not look hideous and evil gorgon at all, as a matter of fact shewas portrayed to be quite pretty. In a nutshell, I no longer have faith in remakes and no longer feelexcited at the remake concept. This film had so much potential. Thiscould have been a masterpiece and an epic (like Lord of the Rings),however instead it was an epic failure. Good: Impressive Special Effects, Liam Neeson as Zeus.Bad: Everything Else.

Utterly pointless and a shameful cash in.

AFter the massive success of Avatar, this 3D film starring SamWorthington had big expectations the Kraken was the bit I was mostlooking forward to, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? I am so angry right now.The film was shot in 2d and then converted into 3d, the result? loss offocus in the background. the cgi used for Medusa was absolutely awful, the Scorpiok battle was a cop out and the harpies were utterlypointless. actually, the whole film was pointless, the whole film was acop out and the whole film was absolutely awful. That's it, I haveofficially had it with big budget 3d remakes. do not waste your moneyon this. if you must see it, see it in 2d. but only if you absolutelymust.

Clash of the Titan vs Clash of the Titans

I wont bore you rewriting things that have been told by other 100times. Here is what I add to the previous reviews.Yes I am a Greek, in love with our mythology. In short this movie is the total opposite of the original. The originalmovie , had mediocre actors, very good scenario, very good plot, not sogood directing, very good fighting scenes and rather so and so specialeffects .This movies has excellent and very good actors, a rather dull scenario, very predictable plot, excellent directing , not so good fightingscenes and some of the most amazing effects.Yes I do believe that Hollywood tends to rape Greek myths. But then onthe other hand a raped myth is better than no myth at all.Why Hollywood believe that today Christian people love and deeply careabout God , but in ancient times when thing were a lot tougher thanthey are now , ancient Greeks hated their gods ? I don't thinkHollywood understand ancient Greek religion and mythology at all. However the defense of the movie is that it had some big parts of theoriginal myth.I saw it on 3d, I agree, it could have been a lot better. But overall I cannot say this movie was crap. The reason is simple, good acting by almost all actors involved that put in the shadow theoriginal movie and AMAZING special effects. I also love the photographyof the movie, it has a rather unique vibe, but overall because I alsodo 3d graphics as a hobby and paint digital, I loved it.People are quick it dismiss a movie that is largely based on graphicsto succeed , but then they may think that good graphics are easy andanyone can do it. But that is they are dead wrong. Good graphicsrequire , talent, huge commitment and loads of money.I wont remember this movie as a movie with a great scenario, but itreally nailed the graphical content of myth to the bone and I hugelyrespect it for that and on that grounds I gave it a 8/10.Lastly the one thing that hugely annoys me is the title. "CLASH OF THETITANS" or probably "WAR OF THE TITAN" named in Greek "TITANOMACHIA" ishuge Greek myth that put to shame Lord of the Rings, its the fight ofthe Greek Gods against the old order of Titans, which are far morepowerful than a Cracken or a Medusa, which of course none of the twoare Titans in any way.I really hope one day a daring director and produces makes"TITANOMACHIA" a movie because it is going to be huge and expose peopleto the real beauty of ancient Greek mythology.Overall, I can say I really enjoyed the movie, very good acting, excellent special effects and a very good soundtrack as well. I went tothe movie hearing before that the movie was crap and I exit the theaterasking myself "What people expected to see from it more than itdelivered ?" , "Have they not seen the trailer ?". Sure it could havebeen better in several areas but overall THIS NOT CRAPISH AT ALL.Its an action movie to the bone and it succeeds.

You will have great fun a long as you don't expect the original

Most of the reviews that I have read begin with the line 'the originalmovie was great', or something along those lines and then proceed totell how awful this remake is so if you haven't seen it yet and want towatch the original go and rent it from Blockbuster as this is a remakeand consequently it will be different.I'm not much of a Greek mythology fan so if the story differs from factthen I don't really care, what I do care about is that this film wasgreat fun, fast paced with great action sequences and really coolspecial effects. Add to that a great cast and you have a winningformula. If go to watch the film expecting to see the original, don't. If you goexpecting to see an action packed, easy watch blockbuster you will notbe disappointed.

If you are buying this for 3-D, spend your hard earned cash elsewhere.

So with the limited number of 3-D movies out there and wanting to make a purchase other than another animated half-rate movie available on 3-D format, I was hoping to put my expensive investment to something more adult like. With hopes, I purchased "Clash of the Titans" Blu Ray in 3-D. I was really looking forward to the film and being amazed because the two animated movies I have, "Monsters vs Aliens" and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" are quite enjoyable in 3-D. As soon as I put "Clash" into the Blu Ray player, I wondered if there was something wrong with my glasses. I changed the batteries on my glasses, tried different pairs of glasses, and even checked to make sure I had the correct disc in the drive. Everything seemed to be working. I even replaced the disc with one "Monsters vs..." just to make sure my TV had not broken down. The result is this: I do not believe that "Clash of the Titans" was even made into a 3-D version. If you are hoping to be amazed with your TV's 3-D display capabilities, you better buy something else. All "Clash" is, is simply a blurred background with no, AND I MEAN NO, 3-D imagery. In fact, I am so disappointed, I plan on returning it (I hope) tomorrow.Don't get me wrong. I think "Clash.." is a fairly decent movie for entertainment. But if you are looking for 3-D graphics, spend your hard earned cash elsewhere.

Cool, melancholy sound track

I watched this movie after listening to all the Percy Jackson books. The movie deserves special mention for its soundtrack.Am sure the soundtrack will win or atleast get nominated for a Grammy.Plus the movie itself uses 3D effects naturally instead of artifically like poking you in the face with a sword, etc.Attention to detail is amazing. For instance the Scorpion slipping on a stone in the narrow path when it ferries its passengers is realistic. The sad soundtrack during the Medusa encounter was heartbreaking.Anyone who knows the history of Medusa knows her life is a sad one. The Music Director clearly has done his homework.Medusa's head changes from beautiful to the freezing is a reflection of the Director's sense of knowledge of history. The best scene was medusa tries to freeze the Jinn and he laughs as he is not of flesh.Sam Worthington must be a lucky guy to act in two 3D movies back to back.He does well.

Great Entertainment and pure Adventure

I just came back from watching this movie . . . and I have to say thatthe production is a marvelous updating and re-imagining of theoriginal. Growing up with the original (the time that the original wasreleased with was state of the art) I have to say that thisre-imagining of it is perfect. The simple plot line of the original iskept somewhat intact, but the addition of the Magi was wonderful and awell needed addition. But there are two setbacks to the movie that made me give it a 9instead of a 10. 1) Pegasus is black (in mythology he is supposed to bewhite). And they called it "the pegasus" (as a noun, a thing, ananimal) instead of Pegasus a proper name the horse of Zeus. 2)Gone isthe golden owl for a companion of Perseus (which make a very briefappearance in the movie, you have to go see the movie to know where. But it was used in the original as the comedy relief) Besides for thetwo things mention above this move is for the OLDER CHILDREN and notfor the young ones. There are some parts that are very intense andscary images for the young ones, but OK for the older children. For what is worth, great story, action balanced with just the rightamount of CGI makes this movie for good entertainment. For what otherreason do we go to the movies?

3rd worst "A" list movie ever

What can one say about this movie other than it should have never beenmade. I can understand why they did, after all the first one wasamazing, even with the terrible special effects. But some Hollywoodidiot had to go and change the script. There was nothing wrong with thescript in the first one. Making this a great movie would have been aseasy as keeping the original. Who's Brilliant mind said I love theroman mythos, but we need to change them a little? It's been that wayfor thousands of years and this retard thinks he knows better. Why notrewrite the bible while you are at it? The special effect were nice, but the storyline was dreadful. And who ever heard of a black Pegasus, anyway. And in case you care, The worst movie ever made was pearl harborfollowed by Shutter island, But it was almost a 3 way tie.

No special features

Hi I love movies with special effects but I have to buy the Blu Ray to see them. I enjoy the "Making of " as much as the movie and I am so disappoined that there is only an added scene I believe. To make a movie about all special effects and not include how they did them is a disgrace. Sorry just my opinion.

Doesn't touch the original

I watched the original when I was a kid and have watched it severaltimes over the years and have always enjoyed it. When I saw thetrailers for this remake, I was excited but also weary that Hollywoodwould take such a wonderful movie and destroy it. And I was partlyright after watching the new movie last night. If you are into non stop action movies with very little dialog or storythen this movie would be for you, however it takes a lot more than thatto get good ratings from me. They changed around the story to make itrevenge based instead of love. The main star Persius goes from being afisherman to automatically knowing how to fight and being fearless likea pro as if he was automatically granted that knowledge withoutinforming the audience. The fights all seemed very short and madePersius out to be almost untouchable as he doesn't have very muchtrouble with whatever he fights.I won't buy this on DVD when it is released.

CGI Borefest

Another big budget, brainless, CGI action fest from the underbelly ofHollywood. New in thing Sam Worthington stars in what turns out to be aeffects heavy and ultimately boring film. Liam Neeson does his LiamNeeson - Ralph Fiennes does voldemort again. Gemma Arterton appears asnothing more than a bit of fluff for the boys. and we have a few morefamiliar faces trying to act all noble in ridiculous wigs and clothing.Perseus is found in the sea as a baby, it turns out he is the son of agod. A god called Hades (Fiennes) accidentally kills his earth dad andhe sets out for revenge to Kill him. We also have Hades threateningdestruction to Argos (not the shop the city) unless they sacrificetheir princess Andromeda to the Kraken in 10 days. So Perseus and hismotley crew set off to find a way to kill the Kraken. The slight change in the story from the original (as I remember anyway)has an effect on the film. Andromeda has no link to Perseus and isreplaced really with Gemma Artetons Io for no reason. In the original Iremember Perseus was on a mission to save Andromeda because he lovedher. No not in this one he is driven by hate but hate leads to the darkside. No hang on thats a different one. Anyway it doesn't really matter as this film was utter tosh due to theneed to fill nearly every frame with CGI. Rush any in between stuffthen get on to the next big set piece. The worst example is the sceneinvolving Medusa. This should have been tense and scary but guesswhat?....yes they turned it into another action scene with a giant CGIMedusa snake thing wriggling around like a bloody computer game end oflevel boss. I don't recommend this film. I am seriously consideringnever seeing a film with Sam Worthington and his whispery voice everagain. Gemma Arterton is a fox though. Enough to Kraken one off to. haha

The uneven original is remade into an abysmal, joyless adventure

Remakes these days are almost always terrible and having seenproduction photos of COTT before its release, photos that didn'tinspire much confidence, I decided not to see the remake on the bigscreen, opting to wait for it on DVD or download. I always had alove/hate approach to the original which I saw at the cinemas when Iwas a young teen. So take this as someone who's not a fanatic of theoriginal and was going to hate any remake from the get go. With thatsaid the new film is thoroughly awful in almost every way possible.Except for the beginning (which is OK, not great), the action packedbut not suspenseful Medusa scene and the clearly OTT ending, there'snothing much else to see. The entire cast of characters is uniformlyunpleasant. Not one likable character in the whole thing, including agrowling Perseus (played by one-note Aussie actor Sam Worthington). This is difference with the original. I basically liked almost everycharacters, no matter how cardboard they were. Here's a breakdown of the film:- the changes to the story (humans vs gods) doesn't make any sense.- Adding the religious/cult storyline with the crazy leader was awful. It added nothing and the character was annoying as hell.- It doesn't really look Greek at all but more Pompeiish than anythingelse. The design of Argos, though spectacular during the climax, hasabsolutely nothing to do with Greek design/architecture.- the look and design of Mount Olympus is tacky. Looks like a cheesysci-fi movie.- Like the original, the other Gods do not have much to do.- In the original, Perseus had to tame Pegasus which made sense, for aHeroic journey. In the remake, Pegasus, who's black, appears to himand, well, that's it. Totally dull. The original was much better inthis regard. And the reason they made Pegasus black because the CGI ismore forgiving than if it was white. - the scene with the scorpions doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Inthe original, the Medusa's blood mutates the scorpions into bigmonsters but in the remake, Calibos' blood (after his hand was cut off)drips on some sand and the scorpions appear from the ground, killingmost of the men from Argos but then Perseus and his men team up withthe mysterious beings that use the big scorpions as transportation likenothing had happened! Huh?- the set for the Medusa scene is pretty good and the Medusa is OK as asuperfast slithery creature but the scene is more action than suspense. And Sam wears flesh-colored tights during many shots, which makes itlook very silly. The ending is so over-the-top that it's almost a thing of beauty. Here's a breakdown:- It takes the Kraken 15 minutes to surface. There's slow and slow, butman, that beast is constipated.- The Kraken looks like a turtle/octopus/that monster from Return ofthe Jedi thingy- The climax occurs during an eclipse. Why?- The ending or confrontation between the Kraken and Perseus isridiculously drawn out, extended by having those winged demons snatchthe bag with the head of the Medusa (how did they know what was in thebag?)- the action is often so confusing that the characters have to tell uswhat's going on such as when the winged demons snatch the bag, Perseusyells that they stole it because we clearly couldn't see what was goingon.- Andromeda, which is not the love interest in this version, hangs fromthe sacrificial altar hundreds of feet above the sea, strung up by herarms, which she never seems to find painful. Unlike other Sword &Sandal films where people were in extreme pain when hanging from theirarms, Andromeda is remarkably calm and nonchalant about it all.- When the Kraken becomes a statue, the whole thing is beyond silly. Itlooks like the monster has a sudden rash. It crumbles from its ownweight and Andromeda falls in the ocean and yet Perseus is able to findher underwater amidst the whole chaos. He must have a heat seekingdevice on him.- Sam Worthington's Aussie accent can be heard throughout the movie.Plus the fact that his hair is not in style with the times, the lesstime Sam is on screen, the better it is.The score is totally forgettable, unlike the Laurence Rosenthal scorefor the original, which is beautiful and soaring. All in all, this remake is at times so bad that in its own way becomesa thing of beauty. I mean, how can a film get it so wrong on so manylevels? Even the brief cameo of Bubo, which was a sight for soar eyes, was mishandled. The film was a huge success and even though the Krakenis dead and the Medusa is headless, Warner has already greenlighted asequel!Because of this remake, I have to re-evaluate the original, which, after watching this suddenly comes out as brilliant on almost everylevel, including the fact that its more in tune with Greek mythologythan this unpleasant version. Well, I still find the original uneven atbest but it's also more enjoyable, memorable and far sexier too.

(2012-03-23 07:14:19)

Ridiculous but fun

An entertaining action movie with an interesting setting and just enough storyline to keep it engaging. The plot of this movie differs so much from the original than it's not really a remake at all, more of a Battlestar Galactica style "re-imagining". But it's still fun, whether you liked the original or not, and the CGI is, indeed, pretty impressive.

where are all the good mythology stories?

first of all, Perseus never went on all his epic quests for revenge. itwas to please a king. secondly, there's only one Pegasus and he'swhite. and Perseus had to work to train and use Pegasus. thirdly,Perseus wasn't the bastard son of a king, but a king's daughter.fourthly, there was no Io in the story of Perseus. fifthly, Perseusstays with Andromeda because he fell in love with her and that was hisprize for saving her. plus, why was it that only a small group of god'shad talking parts. in the story of Perseus, he had the help of severalgods and goddess in completing his quests..he wasn't alone and hedidn't curse the fact he was a demi-god. i mean come on..get overit..stop being a stubborn jerk, accept it, and stop letting yourfriends die because your too stupid.

Big disappointment

Sam Worthington was the wrong person to play Perseus in this awfulremake. He is wooden and has no screen presence but worst of all whydid he keep his hair like that? All the other actors made an effort tolook the part, but he looked like a modern soldier who had been sentback in time. Added to that the fact that his accent was clearlyAustralian or New Zealand, ( I don't care which ) he really stood outfor all the wrong reasons in my opinion. The CGI was outstanding butthe sequences themselves surprisingly boring. I didn't care about theoutcome too much and the only one that was remotely good was the Gorgonsequence near the end. A lot of the monsters were over done, especiallythe scorpions, it was a bit unbelievable that they could have been soeasily defeated. The way the story was shown in this remake also lackedhumour apart from the golden owl send up ( always hated that owl in theoriginal anyway ) But as I said the main failing was Sam Worthington'stotally unbelievable performance. This could have been a better filmwith a stand out character in the lead role.

Good SFX Doesn't Compensate for Bad Mythology

With the advent of 3D it was inevitable that this would be remade, butwhy do the story and the dialog have to suffer? The mythologicalcreatures look more real and scarier (although Pegasus should be white)and the scorpion battle is about as nasty as it should be, but thestory changes do nothing to improve this version. Perseus -- instead ofbeing likable and heroic -- is a bit of a jerk in his determination toreject his divine origins instead of deciding to use them to theadvantage of the human race (the ultimate revenge within this context). The sibling rivalry of Zeus and Hades would have been long over by theperiod of this story, but merely serves here to be an argument aboutatheism vs. religion. Which only serves to prove most humanists' pointthat a god who behaves like a toxic parent should not be worshipped inthe first place. There is no counterpart to the character of Ammon from the 1981version, so this film lacks the wit and wisdom that was in his dialog. The numerous minor characters serve mostly as fodder for the monstersand there is not enough screen time for most of them to give us achance to care about them. It also looks like the other gods all gotleft on the cutting room floor and somebody clearly forgot that Apollois supposed to have golden hair.Let's not even get started about the hair and the armor on the humancharacters.I normally comment on the acting, but the script was so bad that theseactors had almost nothing to work with.If you haven't experienced 3D yet, you may want to see this. Since mostare saying it's substandard, it should be used as a point of comparisonfor 3D that is considered to be good or superior.
