Diary of a boring movie

I just bought the DVD of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I thought it might be alittle above my 10 yr. old and 6 yr. old's interest but thought itmight have some funny stuff in it. I was SO disappointed! The movie wasso below the quality I thought it would have. As one post stated "themain character is actually mean-spirited". So watching this through theWHOLE movie was a big let down. I kept wondering when the funny, happy, stuff would happen. The only thing I got out of the movie were thescenes when some kids were mean and obnoxious...a teaching point I tookadvantage of. My kids would have preferred doing anything else, than towatch this movie. I, would have preferred cleaned the bathroom, than tohave wasted my time and money on this. I am going to sell the DVD!

Pretty funny movie

This review is from: Diary of a Wimpy Kid [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) My 8 year old son loves the books and he loved the movie. I was a little disappointed that the main character was so rude to others during most of the movie, but overall it did have a lot of laugh out loud moments that were great.

Power to Losers

Of the three teen self-empowerment movies currently out on DVD and rating for creativity, acting, cinematography, storyline and I never want to see it again vs. I've got to see this one again, is as follows: On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 as a jaw dropping great) then "Mystery Team" is a zero; "Kickass" is an eight; :Diary ..." is a three. So, good audience - choose your time (life) appropriately.

great movie for the whole family

This review is from: Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) This movie is a perfect family movie. It captures the heart of what many kids go through and conveys it with honesty and humor. Highly recommended.

Don't show the freckle!

Okay, I finally have decided to begin reviewing movies on IMDb. I'llstart with Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The film focuses on Greg Heffley, anaverage kid who is just starting middle school. His best friend isRowley, a wimpier kid who is interested in "Sesame Street" more thangirls (as quoted by Jeff Kinney). For some reason, Rowley is becomingmore popular than Greg. As he is battling a stubborn girl that bringsto mind Rachel Berry, his older brother, and a piece of cheese, he mustbattle himself and learn to accept Rowley.Originally in 2008 (three months after my last review on Mamma Mia!), Iwas going to make a movie with Will and Brad as the duo and me asFregley in a High-pitch voice. Now, that idea is in the dump.Anyway, Robert Capron and Laine MacNeil are great, and the two mostfamous people are probably Chloe Moretz and Steve Zahn. It also gave mea new way to insult people by calling them the people. It's an overallstellar project. Might we have Jerry Stiller in the sequel?

Awesome Movie!!

This review is from: Diary of a Wimpy Kid [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) This movie brought me back to middle school times. I'm an adult now. But this movie was highly entertaining. I can still relate to a lot of it, even though I am an adult and I don't have the same situations any more. But this movie makes it easy to remember. Middle school is a simpler time in your life. And this movie paints that picture very well. I don't mean they dumbed it down. This movie was smart with a very good message: "Never turn on your friends". What I mean is it shows how kids worry about simpler things in middle school. And they are frequently hilarious, just like the entirety of this movie. Zachary Gordon did an A+ job as Greg. I can't wait to see them all back in the sequel, and the one after that and the one after that! I give this a 10/10!

Not bad for younger kids

This review is from: Diary of a Wimpy Kid [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) This movie is alright for very young adults.... I would say up to 15 years old....For adults .... I would move on to another movie, this one has its moments but a good portion of the movie is about how one kid is leading another down a bad road, then at the end doing the right thing.I would not really recommend this movie to any teenager... maybe preteen... but that's a far as I would go...

Loved it!!

This review is from: Diary of a Wimpy Kid [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I watched this movie with the wife and kids and I couldnt stop laughing. This movie really hit my kind of comedy and showes that you dont have to be vulger and shocking to get a luagh..Those kids should get some kind of award for there acting it was great...Great story of a kid trying to climb that social ladder, the power of friendship, the dangers of every day school life and learning to accept yourself as you are and not try to be someone your not to be the popular kid...great movie with a great message...loved it!!!

Fantastic coming-of-age film...

I've been wanting to see this film for quite sometime, and was happythat I was able to finally see it today.I thought it was a fantastic coming-of-age film, and one that was quiteunderrated. This little Hollywood indy film is adapted from the novel by JeffKinney of the same name, and it follows the journey of Greg Heffley. Aboy who has just entered middle school. I have not read the novel, butI thought it was quite well written for the screen, regardless of theoccasional cheesy dialogue. It's a simple story, but told really well. The events throughout the film all contribute to the characterdevelopment well, with a good mixture of comedy and drama. The characters were all really great, and you can really connect withGreg as everyone has gone through the hell hole known as school. So ithas great resonance with all ages. The only character i really didn'tlike was the dad. Stupid and pretty much just put there to fill the dadrole. If you're going to have an empty character then don't put him inthere. The acting was all quite good. Young Zachary Gordon was very impressiveas Greg, as well as Robert Capron as Rowley and Grayson Russell as thegoofy Fregley.Overall a really good Coming-of-age movie, and if you are a fan of thisgenre then you will very much enjoy it.

Don't waste your time or money

I agree 100% with Sean - this was a lame movie. There is nothinglikable about anyone in this. Greg (the character and the boy whoplayed him) completely lacked any charm - one-dimensional self-absorbedjerk of a character. By about halfway through the movie, I found myselfliking the "villans" much more than Greg. The "tender moments" with hisparents fell flat and did nothing to endear him to the audience. Iwasn't expecting great cinema here; it's based on a kids' book. Didn'tcare for the potty humor; it was tired and immature. Even in a moviefor kids, the material should try to be better. What I expected was acute, goofy but heartwarming movie that left you smiling at the end. This is not that movie. I couldn't wait till it was over. If it weren'tfor my kids, who enjoyed it (but not as much as the books), I wouldhave walked out after the first 30 minutes.

My kids love the movie

This review is from: Diary of a Wimpy Kid (DVD) For some reason my seven year old is crazy about the Diary of a wimpy kids books, and he likes the movie too. Although, I have the feeling, that he was slightly disappointed while watching the movie after the books.

well i've seen worse adult films.

My son likes these books and had me sit down and watch this with him.He said he liked it a lot and it was very similar to what was going onin print. Chloe Moretz and Steve Zahn round out the cast that shows theups and downs of a boy and his best friend as they journey into middleschool for the first time. Apparently there is a sequel in the worksfor the second book in the series due out in 2011. Needless to say myson is highly anticipating seeing that one as well. I thought it was acute movie although more for his age group. In fact it was enjoyableand find the more stuff on his level i am watching lately i am enjoyingmore then the garbage that Hollywwod is putting out, how sad is that?

More like 'Diary of Damien' from 'The Omen'

The animations and the journal are about the coolest thing in thismovie, bar none. I love that we get a peek into the brain of a 6thgrader and what he jots down in his diary (oops, sorry, journal) --some of his little rants actually make sense. It's just too bad the kidis a real jerk-off.As the movie opens, Greg Heffley (Gordon) is about to enter MiddleSchool and he tells us why he's writing in a journal. It was a giftfrom his mother, Susan (Harris) so he could get out some repressedfeelings. His brother, Rodrick (Bostick) is supposed to give him somepointers but he's more of a bane to Greg's existence. Brothers will bebrothers, I suppose -- I'm just glad my older brother never triedanything like that when I was growing up.Greg has a best friend, Rowley (Capron, easily one of the only actorsto watch in this film), who is just trying to be himself but Greg won'tlet him. Like I said, Greg's an ass. Greg's trying to be one of thepopular kids by getting himself in the yearbook as one of the'memorables' (Best Dressed, Most Likely to Succeed, etc). In trying todo so, he loses himself in typical schoolyard drama. His arch-enemy,Patty (MacNeil), constantly tortures him by beating him up andcompletely embarrassing him at every turn. Our 'hero' even has aflashback on why she is so mean to him -- apparently in kindergarten,he made up a not-so-nice song about her (kids and their rhyming). DoesGreg, who just learned that he was very insensitive and hurt someoneyears ago, fix it by saying he's sorry? No... he just shrugs it off andcomments, "Hey, that was pretty darn funny."Since I hated Greg's character (and this is the tool that we'resupposed to schlep around with the whole movie), I quite enjoyed allthe bad things that happened to him. I only wish they happened more andwith much more fierceness. I think it's nice that movie studios arestill putting out PG-rated movies for the kiddies and all... but Icouldn't let my kids watch this one with a clean conscience because itapplauds and rewards all of the wrong behavior. Great Movies for the KIDS!

Now this is a movie worth taking your children to see. You will be laughing from start to finish. You get to see the movie from a kids point of view the whole way. You never get cheated and feel like some one is directing them! I'm so happy there are still some good PG movies to take our kids to see. And at my kids age...I really needed that!
