Easy A falls well short of cult teen comedy status, but it possesses enough zingers to make it a fun if forgettable watch for a cross-generational audience. |

Easy comedyEasy A is a crude comedy. Starts like a typical high school mellowdrama where the teens live the modern life of connectivity while notbeing connected as such with each other. While being proudly rude toeach other forming cults and spreading verbal viruses all over, itseems like the high school is functioning as it should be. But someoneis unnoticed and she thinks that it has to end. So even thoughunwillingly she lies to her best friend about losing her virginity overa weekend date and that sure starts a rumor that spreads faster thanwild fire. So then she becomes the talk of the school and ultimatelyfor some time she starts to enjoy the attention she gets until thingsreally starts to go south. Rumors, rumors and more rumors ultimatelydestroying her reputation, puts her under pressure to determine to geteverything back to normal and find love with someone actually thinksshe is special.Easy A is fast phased. Characters are quickly introduced , dropped outof the plot without much introduction. But there is no such big trumpetwelcomes needed too after all as the characters become familiar rapidlytoo as each of them have something special about them. So the cast isnot a waste. Even the acting is OK. You can't expect Oscar winningperformances in a college comedy duh.The humor is subtle. But used appropriately in places where it suits. There is no huge camera movements or extraordinary cinematography, butI like the way the opening titles roll out. Easy A is a simply movie. No complicated plots or mind bending mysteries to solve etc etc. Sojust sit back and laugh away. |

Better than the average High School comedyThis is an enjoyable comedy marked by excellent performances and aslightly dark take on at the problems of High School life.Emma Stone is an unremarkable student who, by accident, gets thereputation for being a slut (She isn't). In some ways she is glad ofthe attention and plays along with the reputation. However this onlyleads to bigger problems.I've liked Stone in films such as "Zombieland" and "Superbad" and hereagain she plays her smart and sarcastic character well so that we havesympathy for her, even though we may not agree with all her decisions. There good performances from Thomas Haden Church and Lisa Kudrow asteachers. However Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson almost steal theshow as Stone's laid back parents. It looks like they had a ballplaying their parts.A small quibble is the casting of obviously twenty something actorssuch as Stone and Penn Badgley as High School students. As expected there is a share of hugging and learning towards the end ofthe film but that is only to be expected in this genre. It is awell-written and acted comedy that doesn't shove its message at theviewer too hard. |

It's all a giant case of good intentions gone badly wrong, and it works because Stone plays off both the impulse to help people around her and the growing realization of how the world views her because of it. |

Clever, Charming, and Funny"Easy A" is a modern day teenage spoof on the serious work of Nathaniel Hawthorne, "The Scarlet Letter" written in 1850. Emma Stone plays Olive Pendergast, a clean cut high school student who blends in with the crowd. There is nothing special about her, although she is attractive. All of a sudden she becomes the center of attention as the high school rumor mill feeds on a white lie she told a friend about a week-end date with a college student. Olive stayed home with her family that week-end, but upon returning to class the rumor spreads like wildfire and she becomes the center of attention. Olive adamently denies she did anything wrong, but this just adds fuel to the wild stories. Finally she decides to just enjoy her notariety and embrace her new risque image. Other students come to her to help their wild reputation (although everyone is being good - they just want a reputation). They pay her to say she had her way with them. Olive helps the situation by wearing sexy new clothes with a red "A" on her chest. It becomes overwhelming - Olive is the most talked about person now. The rumor mill becomes too much for her and she is afraid it will hurt her family and the only high school relationship she cares about. Olive creates a very modern fun and upbeat solution to her problem. The film is funny, and sparkles as Emma Stone plays Olive Pendergast with verve, independence and self aware humor. |

A realistic plot and some wicked funny lines make this film a pleasureI was interested in seeing "Easy A" since the trailer came out and Iwasn't disappointed. It's a funny movie with an excellent lead turn byEmma Stone. In fact the entire cast does a great job with what on thesurface might look like yet another teen sex comedy. What sets this apart from other movies is it's downright funny. I foundmyself laughing hard at a lot of the dialogue like when PrincipalGibbons tells Olive, "This is public school. If I can keep the girlsoff the pole and the boys off the pipe, I get a bonus." or when Mrs.Griffith said about the character Micah, "He's not the sharpestChristian in the bible." I also liked the realistic plot. Compared to"Confessions of a Teenaged Drama Queen" where the main character Lolatells a bunch of lies and seems to get everything she wanted even afterher lies blew up in her face, in "Easy A" Olive loses quite a bit whenher lies get out of control. By the end of the film you know she fessedup but you really don't know if she got back her reputation.I also liked how the film dealt with social media in high school and Iespecially liked Mr. Griffith's comments "I don't know what yourgeneration's fascination is with documenting your every thought... butI can assure you, they're not all diamonds. "Roman is having an OK day,and bought a Coke Zero at the gas station. Raise the roof." Who gives arat's ass?" Exactly. This was a funny movie with well written characters and a realisticplot. The bonus for me was the call outs to the 1980's teen movies byJohn Hughes that this film tried to emulate. I think it did a good job. This will be one I add to my DVD collection. |

PG13? Hardly appropriate for young teens...I consider myself a fairly easy going Mom. Former film major in college & writer.. so I can hardly think of myself as a prude. But this movie crosses the line as far as appropriate content for young teens. Parents: do NOT take your kids or let them go with their buddies if they're under 16. Technically speaking, Emma Stone is a wonderful actress. Script wise - I could not wrap my brain around the concept for the basis of this movie: dressing like a hooker at school to prove a point - pretending to be a slut to become noticed. I almost walked out during the scene where Emma's character is pretending to have sex in a friend's bedroom, with all the party-goers listening outside the door. The CONTENT was absolute garbage. Script writers clearly had brain farts here, because there was no purpose or contribution to the plot by talking about "doing it from behind" or certain "smells". It was just for shock value, not story enhancement. My 16 y.o. daughter looked at me and whispered,"this is gross, Mom - but let's just see how it ends at this point." So with that - I sat back down. Bottom line, it could have been just as entertaining without the explicit sexual content. Unfortunately, it has become a challenge in Hollywood to come up with creatively rich movie scripts that are void of shock-value in order to sell it. The only movie that has succeeded at this thus far is Iron Man & Iron Man 2. No cussing, no sex - and yet it those movies were completely engrossing and entertaining. Therefore - it can be done. Skip "Easy A". |

If Lindsay Lohan never makes it back to leading-lady status, then we can all comfort ourselves with the knowledge that we have Emma Stone. |

Emma Stone is now one of my favorite actressesWhen this movie first came out almost a year ago, I didn't think aboutit. I didn't plan on ever watching it, I had heard good things aboutit, but I just thought it was a chick flick. When in fact the movie ismore of a romantic comedy, and a funny one at that, I'm still not sureif I liked this or Date Night more, but both were very good movies. The film does feel much like an 80's movie, mostly John Huges movieslike Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club, as well as others. Now I was bornin the 90's, but I do have a love for 80's films, like Back to theFuture, Star Wars 5 and 6, and the John Hughes movie's I've seen. Andthis definitely brought that same style.Emma Stone is brilliant, this is the only movie I've seen her in sofar, but she is now one of my favorite actresses, that is how good shewas. But for me, Amanda Bynes stole the show, I loved the Amanda Show, and she is definitely just as witty here.Well there are some jokes that fall flat, and it may seem like it'strying to hard to be like 80's high school movies than it's own movie,I still found myself loving most of it. |

It is like am historical documenty, but without truth or facts or anything really historical, except for the theme of the 80s....... I love 80s movies, like... " dirty dancing, and Just one of the guys, and all the other ones that were mentioned in the film! But what i want to know where are the candy sprinkles or whip cream or the cherry! U know i know someone who can tie a cherry steam into a knot... Kinda cool? A? That was easy.................................................... |

Unbelievable and not very funny, but Emma Stone is so terrific it almost worksThis was hailed by some as being a cut above the average high schoolcomedy. Its star, Emma Stone, starred in what is perhaps my favoritehigh school movie, Superbad. This one may be better than the averagehigh school comedy, but it's not especially great, either. I obviouslywasn't a girl in high school, and it's been over a decade since I'vebeen there, but the events in this movie just don't come close to myactual high school experience. If you don't know the story, it's abouta girl, Stone, who invents a sexual partner, and immediately becomesknown as a slut around the school. Then she starts to pretend to bestupping a bunch of losers so they become more popular. When I went toschool, any girl who looked like Emma Stone or the other gals in thismovie, you'd kind of assume they were having sex (Hell, any girl whodressed like these girls, even before Stone embraces her inner slut, would probably be sent home to change, and my high school was prettydang liberal). It might make guys like me upset because we could neverhave them, and it might make the ugly girls jealous, but would it everhave been as big a deal as it is in this movie? Not much of it seemedbelievable to me. It's worst offense, though, is that it just isn't allthat funny. There are a few good laughs, but otherwise, it's kind ofdull. Yet I didn't come close to hating it. Emma Stone, for one thing,is exceptional. Even when the writing is poor, she sells it. She's justgot some wonderful comic timing, and her eyes are wonderfullyexpressive. I also absolutely love Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tuccias her goofy parents. I really wish they had gotten more time. Instead, they spend a lot of time on a really bizarre and underdeveloped subplotinvolving her teacher (Thomas Hayden Church), who is married to theschool guidance counselor (Lisa Kudrow). |

Another Sleezy Attack On ChristiansAnother childish attempt at shallow humor...The story of a teenager doing 'anything' to be popular is so trite but what is really disgusting is the portrayal of the Christian students who are presented as dimwits...Anyone who has any exerience in public schools will tell you that for the most part the kids who are influenced by the Christian, Jewish and Buddhist teachings are usually the school leaders, great students and filled with common sense...but this character smirking must go on so as to diminish the influence of people who have found POSITIVE ways to live compared to these down graders of our civilization |

Easy A gets a Easy F from meHad some chuckle parts, would have been better if the movie was more about the parents. But it wasn't. So we were stuck with the same old Hollywood dribble. I swear, they must have a formula they go by so that every movie has different characters in it, but the same old boring story.. |

Hollywood BigotsIf you are in to religious bigotry and hate this is the movie for you. If Hollywood really had any guts they would substitute Muslim and Koran for all the anti-Christian and Bible slurs. Of course, they won't because they know that so-called religion of peace would kill them in an instant. Keep picking on the Christians you bunch of tolerant, enlightened, politically correct smart guys. |
