Top Flight Heart-Stopping Action Motion Picture Experience

Without question, this is one of the very best action suspensethrillers ever with top flight performances by everyone! As someoneelse has stated here: "This is one of the greatest Action Thrillers ofall time...it keeps you at the edge of your seat, no matter how manytimes you see it." I agree, I've seen it several times this weekend asit is being shown on Encore HD, and it gets me hooked every time.Skilled Director Suart Baird is also one of the best editors of actionfilms in Hollywood. The sights and sounds are mind-numbingly realistic.When Russell is forced to land the plane, you live every second withheart-stopping tension.

Executive Decision

Middle-Eastern terrorists hi-jack a commercial airplane headed for Washington D.C. and request that their leader, whom the military had nabbed, be set free. However, the plane has a nerve gas bomb that the terrorists intend to wipe out the east-coast of America with. The governement appoints a group of well-trained soldiers (led by Steven Siegal) to turn off the bomb and take out the terrorists by sneaking in the plane. When tragedy strikes it's up to an inexperienced pilot (Kurt Russell) to lead the team.Though not exactly action-packed, the taut and intense thriller firmly holds your attention until the bullet-riddled finale.If you like this film, I also recommend "Air Force One" and "Die Hard 2".Overall rating: 4.8 stars (rounded to 5)Rated R for violence, a suicide bombing, and some language.

There's nothing like a protracted action drama in which anti-terrorist commandos slink around the bowels of an airborne 747 and talk about what they hope to accomplish upstairs in the final shootout.

C'mon, that says it all, man. He dies! That alone is worth this movie. (In fact, I never watched past his death, but I figured it deserved 5 stars for that alone. More movies should do this.)

A Fun Seat-Squirmer

I really liked EXECUTIVE DECISION for two basic reasons. One, the bad guys are Islamic terrorists--the most likely group of thugs to take over an airplane. (Yes, this movie was made pre-9/11; nowadays you would never see Hollywood dare go that politically incorrect route again.) Second, Steven Seagal is only in this film briefly. (I stood up and cheered following his departure.) Yet putting all of the above aside, this is one fun flick to sit down and watch, as a reluctant intelligence expert (Kurt Russell) leads a group of commandos clandestinely aboard a jetliner to stop the terrorists before they can inflict catastrophic death along the eastern seaboard. Meanwhile, back in DC, the Secretary of Defense (Len Cariou), acting on behalf of the abroad President, must make an executive decision: Allow the commandos to do their job--even though the plane is getting perilously close to Washington--or blow the plane out of the sky, killing over 400 innocent people. Nothing like a good seat-squirmer.The cast, led by Russell, meshes well; special unit forces members include John Leguizamo, Joe Morton, and B.D. Wong. Oliver Platt is annoying, but that's just me, while David Suchet plays an evil, snarling (yet stereotypical) head zealot. Best of the best is Halle Berry (wolf howl), playing a flight attendant who assists the special team. Yes, it's all over the top, from the stealth fighter secretly sucking onto the airplane to unload the commandos, to Morton and Platt's endless bomb disarm attempts, to a silly emergency landing (sure, just anyone can land an airliner). But there are thrills and chills galore, twists and turns, and a boatload of suspense, making EXECUTIVE DECISION one wild and fun ride.--D. Mikels, Author, The Reckoning

Glad I wasn't on that plane

I couldn't believe it when I started to view this movie and who do Isee but Steven Seagal. I thought, boy, I'm really losing it - becauseno way would I have watched it had I known he was in it. However, I'mso glad I did."Executive Decision" is a 1996 film and also stars Kurt Russell, JohnLeguziamo, David Suchet, Halle Berry, Oliver Platt, B.D. Wong, JoeMorton, Len Cariou and a special appearance by "Marla Maples Trump" asBerry's fellow flight attendant. A team of American special forcescommandos, led by an intelligence analyst rushed to the scene whilehe's still in his tuxedo (Russell) board a plane (in the mostfascinating way) after it has been hijacked by terrorists in order totake out the terrorists and defuse the dangerous gas planted on board.This is a movie jam-packed to the gills with heart-pounding suspense,tension and excitement. One of the best things about "ExecutiveDecision" is its offbeat casting in the commando department: energetic,quirky John Leguziamo, Oliver Platt as a nervous wreck who isborderline nervous breakdown for most of the time and Joe Morton as awounded bomb expert who manages to keep his sense of humor. On thevillain side, David Suchet of "Hercule Poirot" fame proves again he isone of the best actors around - he's no fussy little Frenchman here buta steely-eyed, violent and committed terrorist. Kurt Russell does aterrific job, and boy is he great to look at. Halle Berry is a braveflight attendant - she has very few lines but does a lot of reacting.Marla Maples Trump looks very pretty.In some of the film's tensest moments, there is some humor, making fora very entertaining film beautifully directed by Stuart Baird. I reallydidn't mind Seagal, either.This is a pre-9/11 movie, and one wonders even then how theseterrorists could have gotten so many weapons on board, not to mentionthat gas. Today of course, watching the action on the plane, it doesn'tseem all that fictional. Next time I fly, I won't silently curse when Ihave to take off my shoes. I just hope the security is actually better.

Formula with a missing link...

As a Seagal fan I have to say that this film has the intrigue of thefamousSilver-Seagal personality dispute. The film in its final version appearschopped up. The film starts with Seagal and builds an interestingrelationship between Seagal and Russell-Seagal lacking respect for the"Escape From L.A" star due to poor intelligence. The film builds and thenkills Seagal off suddenly, almost as if it was injected into the film outofforce. Although a masterful job at making Seagal's absence work, it isclear that this was intended originally as a Seagal film with Russell asthesecond bill-yet somewhere along the way there was a falling out betweenthetwo (a.k.a Critical Decision). The film still pulls through as athriller,however the absence of the action icon leaves the film contrary to theopinion of the critics. Another black mark in the career of the troubledactor.

And this film was made 5 years before the 911 massacre.Palestinian terrorists hijack a Flight 747 en route from Athens and Washington D.C, and it is discovered that they are carrying on the plane, a deadly nerve toxin, in quantities that can destroy half of the USA.Kurt Russell plays a US Intelligence whiz kid who discovers the whole evil plot, and Steven Seagal, the air force colonel, in charge of the operation.David Suchet plays the terrorist killer, who leads the band of vicious skyjackers.And the gorgeous Halle Berry plays the heroic airhostess, who helps to foil the plan by the terrorists.The sexy Marla Maples Trump plays a cameo role as another airhostess.The tension and fear is palpable, and the difficulty, which the anti-terror team pulls off the operation against the terrorists, is shown in its full realism and difficulty, in contrast to the surrealistic ease of a 007.It is always good to steal ourselves for the titanic fight ahead of us between the free world and the Satanic Islamic/Palestinian terror network.

I don't like to be fooled

This film is nice but I don't like it when a film fools you and tell yousomeone is a main character there as it did with Steven Seagal. I meanreally, what were they thinking? For the acting he did there he shouldn'thave been in the main credits, it's like Tom Cruise was in Austin Powers 3but isn't shown in the main credits. Anyway if you expect to see StevenSeagal in this movie you are going to have huge disappointment, the idea ofthe movie is only nice and not enough to really make you say wow. Watch itonly if you don't have anything better to do because after all it'swatchable movie, nothing more.

Some unfortunate flaws spoil an otherwise good film

For me this is a film that could have been so much better but was let downby one major flaw.The beginning sequence was promising and the plot was developing nicelybutthe method of getting the counter-terrorist unit aboard the plane wastotally unbelievable and I don't think the film really recovers fromthat.That said, Kurt Russell and Halle Berry give good performances and I likedDavid Suchet as the lead terrorist.This is a good film to watch if you can overlook the impossible mid-airtransfer.

A decided twist in the genre!!

This movie starts out just like so many of the "save-the-world", are a part there-of, "from total destruction" movies of this type. However, it immediately begins to vary from the norm. First, Steven Segal is killed not long after the movie begins. This, of course, throws the entire viewing audience for a loop; we were not expecting it. All the militaries well made plans for solving the problem go astray. My thoughts on the movie are that it is excellent. The acting is above-the-average all around. One of the best in this abused category. The enhanced properties of DVD only add to my enjoyment !! END

My reason i gave this movie an A+ is because of the fact that the main star of the movie is the plane itself, an Oceanic World Airways Boeing 747-200B, designated flight 343...The Boeing 747 is such a great plane!!! thats my star of the movie

An intelligent, imaginative action movie!

This is a good guys-v-the Middle Eastern terrorists movie that reallydoes the trick! Kurt Russell, Halle Berry, Steven Seagal, David Suchet,and Oliver Platt head up a solid cast playing out a terrorist scenariothat hits home post-9/11. The story's premise, while pretty far-out (ormaybe not so far out), is carried off with a good script and fantasticacting by the players. Behind the whole movie is a Jerry Goldsmithsoundtrack that absolutely grabs you and keeps you in your seat.If you are a fan of the action genre, this movie is definitely worthyour time to see and worth your money to own! The soundtrack is alsovery much worth your time to give it a listen.

another terrorist movie....another waste of video.the lead terrorist played by xxx is pretty good.....but thats about it.when the guy is in a neckbrace and trying to explain the bomb?.....is a bomb for the rest of the vid...this movie sucked and if you buy it?.....your taste in movies is rated zero stars.burn it

My Seagal's favourite Film!

Yes, i don't like Steaven Seagal, his films are nasty, but this film is thebest of Seagal. He does nothing, he dies. Perfect. Superb. My question iswhy he appears in the portraid of the film? Publicity? Lot of my friendsdidn't come with me to see this film because the name Seagal was in itportraid. I watched the film loonely. The day after I said to my friends:Goto see this movie, enjoy it, and if you don't like I will pay your ticket.Finally They went to see it.... at the exit of cinema they kissed me andsaid: Thanks!please see this amazing action film.

Very Good, But Could've Been Better

This movie was pretty good. I was disappointed when Steven Segal died before anything REALLY good happened. if you like movies that are all action, you might like this one, but it is mostly tactical army stuff throughout, with about 15-20 minutes of action at the end. if you like Kurt Russell, than you would probably like this one.

Surprise!

I am usually very picky about films and rarely watch action movies thatdon't have a nostalgic value but somehow I tuned into this one and Icouldn't take my eyes off it. We're dealing with a flight hi-jackingand the situation has been seen before, but the way this story is toldsurprised me in a positive way.It's trying to be realistic, and succeeds! Credits to the screenwritersfor writing a story that everyone thinks they've seen before and stillkeeping the intensity throughout the film. Good acting from KurtRussel, Oliver Blatt and especially John Leguizamp. This is anaction-movie well worth watching. My rating: 7/10
