A lack of care for the Brazilian audience...

Terrible movie. It's true that it had some nice action scenes, specially the last chasescene. But the plot was weak. A lack of care for the Brazilianaudience. Some of the facts of the past of Brazil were not accurate. How aboutthat train scene? Was it supposed to happen in Brazil? We DON'T havedeserts or that kind of train here!! Further, most of the actors who were supposed to be Brazilians wereeither Americans or Hispanics. They had a really weird Portugueseaccent. Sometimes, we Portuguese speakers needed subtitles tounderstand what they were saying. Although the Portuguese of Jordana Brewster is perfect, non-Portuguesespeakers won't notice the differences. As well as those who knownothing about Brazil. Unfortunately, this movie rate will remain as high as it.

The Whole IS greater than the sum of the parts

I really enjoyed this movie. Yes, the scene where they race through Rio dragging the safe and outrunning the police was hokie. In fact, the movie was FULL of hoke, but if you are buying a ticket for "Fast Five" expecting to see "Citizen Kane", you are really begging to be disappointed. There's enough fast cars, big boobs, and ass kicking to more than make up for any shortcomings in the plot. If you didn't like this movie, the fault is yours for even going to see it.Having said all that, "Fast Five" managed to bring the more enjoyable characters back from the first four movies and put Dom Toretto squarely back in the middle of plot. Torretto's loyalty to his "family" and the things he learned from his father are really a pillar of this movie and the writers did a great job of allowing his character to drive the movie. The rest of the characters are all, in my opinion, disposable. Brian is no more indispensable in this movie than Letty was in the prvious movie, for example. Anyway, Rio looks like a town I'd hate to do anything but visit. The Rock was finally "The Rock" again. Like the rest of the world, I'd gotten tired of him playing ironically gay characters. The Rock needs to kick ass and take names - he's not racing to witch mountain or trying to "Be Cool". He added to the movie.To summarize: Lots of car chases, hot chicks wearing as little as possible, ass kicking, and little morality plays. If your movie has 3 of these 4, you have a winner. That's all I'm saying.

Great fun!

Fast Five - you'd think by the fifth instalment the Fast & Furiousfranchise would have run out of nos but this film really 'packs apunch'. Think of what you expect from this film, and then make itreally amazing! Great chases - all kinds! -, great fist fights (VinDiesel vs. The Rock..!!), great action sequences.... everything youwould want from this film is IN IT and if you suspend all disbelief andgo with it, its done brilliantly. Even the cheesy lines and plot twistsbecome enjoyable.Not sure I'd pay a full adult weekend cinema price to see it, but ifyou can get 241 or a student discount, definitely see it on the bigscreen! Or wait for the blu-ray. Either way, you won't regret it whenyou see the beads of sweat running off The Rock's huge, bald head.Weird.

Mindless fun

What can someone expect from the 5th "sequel", after not watching firstfour? Probably something bad, milked to the bone and totally dry. Well,this is not the case here. I'll probably watch all the "prequels"backwards, just for a different perspective. This movie is fun and ahuge slaughterhouse for the automobiles. Reminds me of The Wild Bunchonly because of the "body count", only here "poor" cars prevail in thepile. The movie is very watchable, dynamic, action packed and (despitemany obvious flaws in the plot) just OK. In these type of filmsdirecting and editing (beside special effects) is what counts and thatpart of the job is well done. The only time when I actually mentionedsomeone "acting" is when Dwayne Johnson pops up. That man, bearing hismuscles as more of a curse in life than a blessing, is highlyunderestimated as an actor (watch Faster and you'll see what I mean).Others just pass through the scenes not even trying to do anything butto have fun themselves. If you have approx. 130 minutes surplus forsome passive entertainment, go and watch this one. Don't expect. Justenjoy the ride.

Great action+powerful performance= Fast Five

I love Fast And Furious movies, all of them had action,story,charactersand plots that are interesting to watch, and in my opinion this Fn'F isthe best in it's series.The crew is back with Diesel and and Walker with a surprise touch fromDwayne Johnson, O'Connor(Walker) and Toretto(Diesel) find themselves onthe other side of the wanted poster and tries to make one last hit as arevenge, not only that they have enough trouble already, nowHobbs(Johnson) a relentless,determined,incorrigible tough nut federalagent who swore that will catch them no matter the cost.The acting is great just what you expect from great names, they blendwell together and mesh like a perfect machine. The plot takes it timeto build to it's finale and the pace is great. and you will have acouple of moments where your jaws will drop unintentionally from theaction scenes in the movie.All in all a great movie that is a must see, you will enjoy it and youfriends will enjoy it too, i guarantee that.

A Must Have

I saw it in the theatre and loved it. A fantastic follow-up movie in the Fast and Furious series. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson fits in perfectly.If you're a fan of these movies, this truly is a must have!!

Fast Money

I only seen the first Fast and the Furious and I own it on DVD. Iskipped out on the sequels, mostly because of the bad word of mouth.When Fast Five was released, I didn't have intentions on seeing ituntil I learned that The Rock was in it. However, I wasn't sure if thefilm would deliver. After some positive word of mouth from severalpeople, I was convinced on seeing it. So on a cold, rainy day and anawful week that had passed me by, I decided to give this movie a spin.And boy was I surprised!Fast Five is one exhilarating movie! It didn't start out well. Withoutseeing the previous installments, and barely remembering the first, Iwas a little lost in the beginning. Where things picked up was in thetrain robbery scene where Vin Diesel and Paul Walker (who's bestperformance is in Running Scared) are having that fight scene. It waspretty awesome, up until the end but I guess that's where thesuspension of disbelief comes into play.The movie doesn't linger onto any dramatic scenes for too long. Thefilmmakers know that their target audience came for the fast cars andaction. Who cares about any subplots and talking? The Rock makes agrand entrance and is provided with enough screen time to make The Rockfans happy. I also like the turn of events with his character near theend. It was handled brilliantly.Speaking of the end, the climax is probably one of the best climaxesI've seen in a very long time. I think it probably nailed the wholesummer movie feel. By the end of the movie, I felt that this is whatsummer movies are meant to be. I don't know if the director Justin Linsaved the franchise, as I don't even know if the franchise was introuble in the first place. However, this movie might have introducedmore fans. With the series being stagnant for so long, I can honestlysay that I'll be looking forward to the sixth installment.

Fantastic

It's rare that I come out of a movie and just want to walk back in andwatch it again - and how often is that likely to happen with the fourthsequel? Probably never again! The movie has so many great moments fromrooftop chases to gun battles to the amazing safe chase finale and allwith very little or no CG - I'm just glad there were no tunnel chaseslike the previous movie. The quieter moments are great too, theextended family these characters have created make their bond verybelievable and like a real family they fight but ultimately have eachothers back. There are some extremely funny moments too, the toiletscene is funnier than anything in the latest Big Mommas House and anyconversation between Tej and Roman is delightful. Surprisingly The Rockis barely in the movie but he does get a great post-credits moment withsomeone else from the franchise history. It's worth sticking round forthat. It is a far superior action movie to most others out there anddefinitely better than the other car movies of late, Faster and DriveAngry - I'm looking at you.

More Crap from Hollywood!

This film is a great example of why discriminating movie buffs could care less if hollywood fell off a cliff. There is absolutely NO TALENT in screen writing these days. These folks seem to think that all we need is a lot of BS stunts and CGI effects and we'll just drop to our knees in praise of them. As one other reviewer clearly observed, the stunts and some of the story line were SO ridiculus until it made the whole story unbelievable and utterly unrealistic. When I'm watching a supposedly non-fiction movie the one thing I absolutely can not stand is to have my intelligence insulted! This movie does this hands down, so much so until it should receive an honor for its efforts. In my opinion, Rock, Vin and Tyrese gave the best acting efforts...very matured and natural acting skills. I really like Paul Walker but he should take more acting classes because a lot of his lines sound too artificial...sounds like he forces his delivery too much. Their ridiculus stunts were too much for me, they borrowed scenes from Clear and Present Danger (the ambush that killed all of Rock's men but curiously kept him alive eventhough he was in the middle of the street with NO protection against rapid gun fire), and, to me, borrowed too much from the Ocean's 11 & 12 themes (with the crew of 7 or 8 guys that all had different specialties, tired). The two Challengers that pulled a bank vault at high speed down the highway was just stupid...no snapped cabled, no rear ends being jerked out, not to mention the overwhelming effect the massive vault-weight would have had on the cars themselves. It just got dumb at that point. It was amazing to see that Brazil had Dodge police cars like America...I really didn't know that. I also thought it strange that a DEA task force of 4 or 5 men could come into another country and operate all willy-nilly without ANY cooperation with the hosting country other than one "translator" that ends up being Vin's love interest at the end credits. I'd like to see some other country come into America and try that! Anyway, glad I didn't reward hollywood with a box office receipt for this (this is the main reason I don't spend money at the theatres today). There's worst entertainment for sure, but really disappointing for supposedly a solid franchise, and the fact that this movie took in over $640 million worldwide. What does that say about our moviegoers today?!?! One last thing, fire the director from future projects for putting crap like this out!Thanks!

Easily the best of the series and very fun and exciting to watch. Not many car racing scenes, which I liked. I say B+

And above all else we don't ever, ever let them get into cars."After breaking Dominic (Diesel) out of the jail bus Brian and him moveto Rio to start a new life of robbing and stealing. After Brian getsnews that makes him want to stop running the team decides to pull offone last heist. I have never been a real big fan of the series. Theyare good but have mostly been "I have car...I go fast." The fourth onewas the best because it actually had a story to it. Then I saw thisone. Far and away the best of the series so far. For those that watchedthem for the racing I should warn you, there is only one scene in thisone. This one was more in the style of "Oceans 11" then a "Fast &Furious" movie. I'm not sure if the sixth one they are making isneeded, but like all movies lately they will make them until they makeone too many...then the remakes start. That reason aside this is a veryfun and exciting heist movie very much worth watching. Overall, Isurprisingly liked it a lot and highly recommend this. I give this aB+.Would I watch it again? - I think I would, I can't say that about theother four.*Also try - Fast & Furious 1-4 & Takers

The Real Rio

As you should know before you read more I only rate movies 1 or 10. Sopass on this one, there are many other films like this that things blowup there is a silly plot twist at the end like two safes yes it wassilly and it could not save a pathetic film. All the cops in Brazil areless corrupt then the ones in the good old USA. What are you crazy? Isaw fast five and the steroid actors from USA were way better than allthe crooked Brazilins with Spanish accents so thick that I, I had aflash back thing all the Nazis have British ascents but the Britishfought the Nazis and the Americans only came in at the end of the warafter all the money was gone in selling to the Nazis. Well the dumbestthing about the film is the Cars try out driving a Caraochi in Rio youmay as well speak Paulistia Portuguse. The film is a waste of film andso full of bull that it can only continue to reinforce a stereotypethat is apparent as I ain't no uncle Tom but .................
