Fantastic Kids Movie! 5 Stars!!!

This review is from: Gnomeo & Juliet (DVD) We got this movie first from NetFlix. My nephew has been watching it non-stop every night for two weeks! To surprise him I ordered it from Amazon and it came today lightning fast before we had even sent back our copy to NetFlix. My nephew is thrilled! This movie is absolutely adorable! Very cute and funny, great music. He loves it;) We have been on the hunt for Firestone the pink flamingo! He wants two for our backyard just like in the movie! We give 5 stars!!!!!!

The witty dialogue is so comical. Any child would be glued to the TV while watching this movie. Just darling.

Magically Charming - Great Fun For All Ages

The premise of Gnomeo & Juliet is as simple as it is charming - a re-telling of the classic Romeo & Juliet tale in an all-ages story starring a cast of, yes, garden gnomes. Well, not entirely garden gnomes - there's a bullfrog, some pink plastic lawn flamingos, a deer, a turbo-powered ride-on lawnmower, and a few other such characters, but the gnomes are the mainstay. The blue-hatted gnomes of one backyard and their red-hatted counterparts in the yard next door have been feuding for ages, so it's inevitable thast when the adventure-seeking title characters encounter each other and fall for one another, trouble is sure to follow. I've maintained for a long time that an awfully lot of the best comedies out there can be found in the family section of the DVD store, and this one is in that batch. It provides way more laughs than a lot of the big titles in the comedy section, and on top of that packs in ample cute appeal and a special magic that simply charms the heart. There's just something about those rotund little gnomes scurrying about in their prized blue-or-red hats that's irresistable. The voice acting is very well done. With the main characters, Gnomeo & Juliet bucks the growing trend in western animation to bring in big-name stars who import their trademark personas into their animated roles, and instead lets the talented voice cast, for the most part, fit into their characters instead of the other way around. A few exceptions to this exist in the cameo appearances of unlikely stars for supporting characters, but that's done so well you don't mind at all. Great job on the animation itself too, with lots of care put into the facial expressions and often comedic body language of the little gnomes and their cohorts. Overall, Gnomeo & Juliet successfully blends the wit of modern animated fare like Shrek (Two-Disc Special Edition) with the innocence and sweetness of Disney classics like Dumbo (Two-Disc 70th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack in DVD Packaging) and Bambi (Two-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging). Whether you thrive on animated movies or see them only rarely, you've got to check this one out.

Fun for the Kids and the Parents

I ordered this on a whim for the kids for a family night not long after it first came out. I love how Elton John's music is incorporated throughout, even in the background. I also really appreciated the small tributes to Shakespeare, like the Rosencratz and Gilderstein moving van. Even my thirteen-year-old enjoyed it, which really surprised us. Anyway, it's a fun little diddy, not to be taken too seriously but to be just enjoyed. The cast is star-studded, from James McAvoy to Michael Caine. I would recommend this to any family for a fun family night in.

Gnomeo and Juliet: 6/10

It spends a bit too much time working on the animation portion of thefilm instead of realizing that it has lots of flaws. The story of twognomes tribes that hate each other's guts, red and blue. And as thetitle says it all, the story of Romeo and Juliet is basically the plot(but with few tweaks). We all know the story and heard it tons oftimes, so perhaps they thought that they didn't need to develop thestory. Well, they're wrong. Instead of telling a story, we see lots ofdancing and 3D show-offs and a lot of music. Despite the impeccablesoundtrack by Elton John, we can't help but realize that nothing aboutthis clichГѓВ© is special. Gnomeo and Juliet has its flaws, but the storyof Romeo and Juliet can be told in any shape or form and it would turnout great. With the gnomes version of Toy Story characters and smartwriting added with Elton John's soundtrack, Gnomeo and Juliet is a kidversion of Shakespeare's love tragedy.

old story. nice gnomes. a childish game in which Shakespeare is axis,part and false prophet. funny characters, events as marathon, hate,love, Heaven of two gardens and joy to discover population of thisspace. rabbits, deers, mushrooms, an impressive frog, red against blueand a toilet as support for flower, lawn mowers, disasters andromanticism. a flamingo in place of father Lawrence and Gnomeo motheras mother Goose. a delight far from any ambition. only exploration of aclassic subject in way of children. so, the end must be dressed inhoney of joy. a sweet show for every age. humor, touching scenes, smallemotions, inspired options. and voices of great actors in a kind ofexpedition in childhood land.

Gnome Story

Gnomeo and Juliet is a cute movie, and your young kids should love it. Like that popular story about toys that come to life when no one's looking, Gnomeo and Juliet follows the same concept albeit with garden gnomes. Two rival next-door neighbor gnome factions, Red gnomes versus Blue gnomes, battle for most beautiful garden while the homeowners are out of sight.The best part of the movie is the cameos. You hear certain voices that "sound like" really famous people, or should I say really famous "voices". You say to yourself, "That really isn't Hulk Hogan, is it?" Or, "Great impression of Dolly Parton." Or, "Hey, Shakespeare sounds like Patrick Stewart." Or, "They're trying to make that one sound like Ozzy!" Only to watch the end credits role and see that they actually got those folks to contribute those bits to the movie.But the cameos really are the best part of the movie. Don't expect the depth that's common in most of today's PG rated animated features. The movie is as G-rated as it gets, and G ratings are hard to come by these days. I think that the only way to get a G rating today is to keep the content at a 3rd grade or lower level, and Gnomeo and Juliet does exactly that. So grab this on DVD for your children when it comes out and cuddle up with them for a viewing. This one really was created the kids.

Personally I like this better than William Shakespeares version!

I watched Gnomio and Juliet with my grandmother on Netflix Friday evening. I actually loved the movie NOT liked L-O-V-E-D. I liked that the characters were cute little lawn gnomes. And there was a fued between not only the gnomes because they were red and blue there were fueds between the neighbors that own them. I also like that Gnomio and Juliet actually have time to fall in love and getting to know each other instead of falling head over heals at first sight. Its a great movie for kids adults and teens to watch. I admit I had a feeling I was going to like it. But I didn't think I would love it as much as I do now. I'm not going to give it away too much of what happens. I also loved that Elton John music was played in the movie. I realize people may critize this movie for not being like Romeo and Juliet. But everyone must understand that you don't want children to see violence and two people commit suicide because of a fued that keeps them a part. The kids should just be kids.

Great Movie!

Finally a movie for the Kiddies

A forbidden love between Gnomeo (James McAvoy) and Juliet (EmilyBlunt). 2 feuding garden gnome families living side by side had anunusual event occur. The kids of the leaders of each family fell inlove. The only thing Gnomeo and Juliet ever wanted was to be with eachother every waking moment. Based on Shakespeare's play, Romeo andJuliet. It's rare that in this day and age a movie for kids are madewithout any adult sub topics that the kids wouldn't understand. Thismovie from head to toe is a enjoyable delight for 12 and under but Ithink the older kids like me will get a kick out of it too. I wouldn'texpect anything less from the greatest place on earth people. Thank YouDisney. 4 out of 5 stars.

Great for kids with no swearing sexual content or anything risky at all

This film is great for children with no swearing, sexual content, druguse, tongue in cheek or anything risky at all. For Adults, this has nofun or anything interesting to keep you interested. At least Shrek hadadult jokes kids can't understand so not endangering their little mindsbut giving us a laugh. This is just a easy going revamped version of aclassic that tries for humour and fails badly. This is possibly theworst cartoon film I have ever seen. This could have been a great filmand some jokes led up to you thinking it might be funny but most jokeswere aimed at children and parents that want to read a book whileletting their kids be occupied by something safe and friendly.

it's just plain fun!

Admittedly, some of the thrill is lost when you're watching a 3-D movie on a regular TV. Gnomeo and Juliet seemed much more vivid on the 'big screen'. But it's still so lively and full of color. Kids will stay entertained, and adults who like CGI animation (and lots of kitsch) will enjoy the constant chaos in the two over-the-top gardens. As a gnome collector, I was so excited to hear about a film totally devoted to my favorite lawn ornaments. It surpassed my expectations. The clinky sounds when gnomes hit the concrete on little clay feet. Their daily business of gardening, fishing, and tending to lawn bunnies and frogs. The cattiness between Mr. Capulet and Mrs. Montague. The pink flamingo sub-plot. 'Bennie and the Jets' surprising me when Benny the gnome dances on keys on his owner's Banana computer. As an Elton John fan, I liked hearing new takes on old favorites. I didn't mind the happy ending. Most people seem to feel either delight or contempt when they see a garden gnome; there's nothing tragic about them. Kids don't have to watch star-crossed gnome lovers die in order to learn about loss here; there's enough sadness when the flamingo tells his story about his long-lost love. (And when Gnomeo and Juliet are briefly presumed dead, anyway.) The most obvious lesson in the film is the one about accepting differences. My friend took her biracial child to see the film, and they liked that the 'red hats' and 'blue hats' learned to be happy together. I can't help but wonder how Shakespeare might have reacted to this pretty loose interpretation of his play. But it isn't entirely mindless, and it's one of those visual delights that I'll watch often enough to make a DVD purchase worthwhile.

Bad Movie

When I saw this movie I thought, "How could anybody think this is good?" This movie has almost no plot and the movie was released like nobody has edited this. If Pixar were to do a remake of this, I bet everything would be different and the movie would at least earn a B. From some of what I saw in the movie, it almost feels like the movie should have been rated PG. Reason is because in a G rated movie, most of the time the characters don't get destroyed or killed. In conclusion, I say, "Nice start, but let another movie company redo this movie.

not worth it

I took my 7-year-old to see this and was quite disappointed. I get thewhole Romeo & Juliet parallels, but this bordered on the absurd. Whilethe story tries to depict love based on who you are and not what familyyou belong to, it ends up stereotypical, hokey and focuses more onrevenge than is does love. Everyone is "out to get" everyone else andby the end, I was wishing it had the non-G ending. There's no memorablemusic, no feel-good lessons and the animation was average at best. Theonly redeeming factor was the Flamingo. His character had more depththan either Gnomeo or Juliet's and I felt more of an emotionalattachment to him. Though I didn't pay the extra money to see it in 3D,it was hardly worth it to see in 2D. Don't bother with this one.

This movie is soooo great! I absolutely LOVED it!!!I think the plot is great and I love the voices.It's the great story we've all heard with a twist.
