Hall Pass (2011)A deceptive chick flick in disguise. You'd think that a movie by theFarrellys, about men having a week off marriage would be loud, fun andcrass. It's seldom fun, rarely crass, but always loud. The three needeach other to work well. Perhaps that was their point. Like the guys inthe film, we expect big things from the set-up. Instead, they juststrike out and get bloated. It was enjoyable at times, especially whenneeding to take a poo. There are little scenarios, such as Merchant'simagining of his own Hall Pass, that really show what a funny film thiscould have been. However, it constantly reminds us of moral values, which is just dull. If I wanted a lecture on morality I could just lookaround the real world. Some nice gags, but a far cry from hilarious. |

It's the perfect showcase of 'an idea' and not a film. While there are some laughs, it eventually feels like a waste or time. |

Excellent Guy MovieIt's funny because we, guys, know that it's true and women are learning it for the first time in this movie. |

The idea is good, but not the movieThe idea of getting a 'Hall Pass' from marriage sounds great, who would not like that? After watching the movie my wife told me 'absolutely not!', there you have it.There were few parts that were funny, but I would not consider this movie a comedy. Maybe it was the script that was bad. It really is not a family movie to watch with children. For those of you who have idealistic opinions about marriage with children, you should see this movie to see how it is like in real life. Yes, men will do all of those things portrayed in this movie (perhaps women too, I wouldn't know), except the crass conversations. |

brand new review, just saw itlook, this wont win no oscars, i guarantee it, but if you want 1hr and 30+ minutes of laughter and enjoyment, you will fet it here. If you liked hangover, if you liked 40 year virgin, superbad, or any of those sexist raunchy films this one is right up there with laughs. theres a scene where the girl feels conjested, and she coughs, gross, but a BIG laugh in my audience crowd. The jacuzzi scene had all the males cringing with awkward laughter, and the then the end with the britsh guy, pretty funny stuff. Overall, if you dont like it raunchy, save your money and go watch the BIEBS movie. I am a real person not paid by the industry. read my movie profile and reviews. |

Save your moneyThis movie has 2 shocker scenes. And in my opinion, they just put thesein to get people to talk about the film. Other than these 2 shockerscenes, the film lacks any real funny moments. It's all toilet humorand dragged on scenes that never go anywhere. I honestly thought theycould have done a much better job with this film, but instead, theyprobably won't even make all their money back. The picture quality ispoor, and the story line was lack luster. Save your money and rent iton DVD. The best moments in this movie were in the previews, and whilethese directors have had successful films in the past, they failed withthis one. |

A hit-and-miss affair that falls too often on the wrong side of that comedy corridor. |

Very entertainingSome people complained about the male genitalia being shown, but it was part of a joke, a disgusting joke, but still women have to see topless girls in almost every film this is our turn to take one for the team. All in all the movie is funny. I'd recommend watching it atleast once. Ending is pretty hilarious and Alexandra Daddario needs more roles, she is stunning. |

average amount of laughsHall Pass was relatively boring. The humor was never really consistent or exciting enough to please me. The storyline is about two men who are granted fictional hall passes by their wives that enables them to do whatever they want for exactly one week. These hall passes were given to the husbands after they screwed up and got into a fight with their wives.Of course the focus here is on sex since one of the wives brought to their husbands attention that the only thing men think about is sex. I liked the response by the husband "It's because we're wired for sex!"So what do these men do with their hall pass? They attend adult parties and try to score with the ladies and... that's about the only thing they really do... throughout the entire film. WAY too much storyline downtime for me. This is most certainly a comedy intended for viewers 40 years or older because if you're young like me, you won't find much in the way of humor or entertainment here. The jokes are in between intelligent and juvenile, which isn't a problem in itself- it's that the storyline never picks up and GOES anywhere particularly amazing. The movie feels like it's stuck in a loop where it *tries* to pick up and progress, but always falls back to a comfortable, forgettable groove.Alright, there's really only two segments that seemed memorable to me. The first is when one of the men is pleasuring himself in his parked vehicle while listening to rock music and the cops drive by and witness this dirty act taking place, and the other funny part is near the end during a car chase segment and there's a guy on the roof of the vehicle swinging a club at the windows while the cops persue after the car. That's about all she wrote as far as laughs are concerned.I'm noticing that Owen Wilson is really growing older. I've never noticed it before. We all grow older of course so I'm not necessarily complaining about it. On the flipside it's not only remarkable that Christina Applegate still looks young, she's also as attractive as ever. I'm starting to develop a thing for Jenna Fischer as well. Overall, short on the actual laughs turns out to be this movies downfall, but for older folks out there searching for a mild comedy, you may find something appealing here. The younger folks should look elsewhere. |

Traffics in a brand of misogyny so puzzling that it can only be analyzed by examining the film's raunchy jokes at close range. |

Michael Phillips (2012-04-20 15:39:10) |
It's secondhand, vaguely resigned material. And while Sudeikis has some talent, he's not yet ready to co-anchor a feature comedy. |
|
Roger Moore (2012-04-20 03:01:09) |
The Farrellys, working from script they co-wrote with others, make sentimental-about-love points in between their usual toilet jokes, masturbation gags, full frontal nudity and incredibly coarse come-ons. |

EyThe movie was ok. Typical movie about being satisified with what you have. Pretty vulgar movie but not really that funny with it. The acting was ok. |

Unfunny and unpleasant, it's hard to believe these are the people who once made There's Something About Mary. |

Unless you really, really, really need to scare your partner into staying in your relationship, maybe pass this one by. |

Fanaticalaboutfilms Review: Hall PassThe premise for this movie is an interesting one and brought with itthe chance to lay down some solid comedy. With the Farrelly brothersproducing the likes of Dumb and Dumber and There's Something AboutMary, hopes were higher than usual for this type of film. Rick (OwenWilson) is married along with all his closest friends but this doesn'tstop him and his mates sharing a jovial joke or two about what theywould be getting up to if they weren't with the other half. In fact thefirst half an hour of the movie you will spend wondering whether youhave happened upon sex crazed teenagers trapped adult bodies given howhorny they all seem to be.Rick and Fred (Jason Sudeikis) believe that they have honed theirabilities to leer at women with extreme subtlety and are sure that theyare never caught in the act. Their spouses however are well aware oftheir antics and on most occasions spot or overhear their husbands. After going just that bit too far both Rick and Fred are granted a'hall pass' from their wives. An entire week to spend doing whatever orwhomever they want. The movie is broken down into the 7 days that they have and themischief that they get up to. For the first few days Rick and Fred arejoined by their mates who watch as they talk the talk but don't walkthe walk. Even after copious amounts of alcohol and a quick read up onthe latest internet chat-up lines neither one is bringing their A-gameto the table. Parallel to this however are the wives who both go toCape Cod for the week and being spouse free themselves find that maleattention is quite easy to come by. Rick and Fred's friends who includeStephen Merchant (am not sure how they managed to get him in this buthe should probably have given it a wide berth) are not engaging andexcept for a golf scene involving brownies laced with weed they don'tcontribute to either the plot line or the comedy. The Farrelly brothers have gone the way of lude and crude and for somethat will cater to their comedy needs. 'Over the top' and 'gross-outcomedy' have been muttered when talking about this movie and I wouldagree wholeheartedly. For me though there is only so much laddishhumour I can take before it starts to become a bit repetitive. Thereare some good moments hidden away in a sea of average especiallytowards the end but they are fewer and farther inbetween than I wouldhave liked. It's a shame the movie didn't begin half way through because this iswhen I felt it started to stutter into life and even after the creditsstarted rolling there was still some laughing to be had. Hall Pass hasset itself up to cater for a certain type of viewer and it will be oneof these movies that you either end up loving or hating. I'm usually afan of toilet humour and a bit of banter but this just didn't quite cutit. For further reviews feel free to check out:http://www.fanaticalaboutfilms.com |
