Golf Clubs:20$. Golf balls:5$. Watching Bob Barker beat the

crap out of Adam Sandaler: Priceless. When Happy Gilmore was released 9 years ago, it was ignored by the "proffessional" critics [nicjaytee, that includes you, you "humoUrless" Brit!] . However, to the rest of the "unimportant" US opinions, it is a cult classic. Adam Sandler plays Happy Gilmore, a hockey lover with a short temper. When grandma's house is threatened to be taken away because of not paying taxes. When Happy's friends go outside during the hockey game to play golf, he gets a little...pissed. So his friends tell him if he can hit the ball farther then them, they will go back and watch the game. There Happy discovers his ability to hit a ball FAR! A golfer, Chubbs, sees him, and offers him to play golf. He must now win the tournament to pay granny's debts! But Shooter might not let him... This film is halarious. From Bob Barker duking it out with Sandler, to Happy cursing when he doesn't get the ball into the hole, HG is a must see for comedy lovers, or people looking for a night of laughs.

Happy Madison does it again!

Happy Madison productions are great!Every film to date has been good. When people produce garbage such as "Punch Drunk Love" and try to use actors like Adam Sandler they should be jailed for unlawful use of a Jew or Jew-based cast.I went to "The Price is Right" in Hollywood awhile back and Bob Barker talked about Sandler and the filming of this movie and I was glad to see Bob in this film.Strange how you often see the same Jewish cast members in Duece Bigalow,Little Nicky,Mr. Deeds and The Hot Chick.makes me want to get a race change and get a few roles myself.Keep up the good work Happy Madison!

Great comedy

One of the funniest movies I ever seen. Sometimes it's good tosee a movie that's just make you laugh. Unfortunately doesn't themovies with Adam Sandler that follows have the same "we have alot of fun filming this movie"-feeling. However, Happy Gilmore is agreat comedy that I recommend.

Julie Bowen is Gorgeous- Chris MacDonald is a Great Heavy

How can you not fall for Julie Bowen- especiall as she looks in this movie. Chris MacDonald is a great heavy. They make the movie. Adam Sandler is basically unwatchable. Except when he is with Bob Barker.

"Happy Gilmore, Come on Down"

The first time you see this movie, you will be laughing until yoursides hurt. From the first scene until the last. Adam Sandler is justhilariously funny in this Greater than Caddyshack golf movie. Yes,"Happy Gilmore" is just that good.Who the heck is Happy Gilmore? It's easy, he's a hockey player whoplays a mean game of golf. That's right, golf. Except those times whenfans are taunting him or running onto the golf course, that is.And when you add a celebrity television star who can beat the crap outof him, it's just that much better. Bob Barker plays a cameo role in"Happy Gilmore" who gets fed up with Happy's game of golf, which endsthem up in last place. The only reason Happy even played the game was to help his sweet oldgrandmother get her house back. And of course, to kick butt on thecourse as well. With help from Chubbs.....anyway. Shooter is not muchof a sportsman when it comes to losing either. Wow, look at him run.So, come on down, be a winner, and watch "Happy Gilmore", and believeit or not, you will have a happy time.

Not just for golfers -- everyone will laugh at this movie!

I'm not a golfer, nor am I a huge hockey fan. Truth be told, I'm not really all that big into Adam Sandler. But I love this movie!! It's a comic masterpiece that combines satire with sarcastic humor and the occasional "cheap shot" giggle. Sandler plays a hockey star wannabe whose Grandma is being harrassed by the IRS. After ten years of not paying her taxes because she "had no money", her house is being repossessed as well as all her belongings. Sandler, who works as a construction worker and tries out for hockey teams in his spare time, jumps in to save her. But, being down and out himself, he finds he must make money (over $250,000) FAST. Sandler can hardly stand on skates and hockey really isn't his bag, no matter how badly he wishes it was. But he has a wicked shot...which he uses on the golf course to get into a competition which will allow the winner to join the PGA. The story progresses from there. The parts that really caught my attention were Happy's fiery temper. He is most hilarious when he's poetically insulting fellow golfers ("why don't I just go make some things out of clay or eat some hay...I just may") or beating the snot out of inanimate objects ("you're gonna DIE clown!") or having the snot beat out of HIM by gameshow hosts. This movie has all the ingredients of a typical 90s Gen X comedy -- a love story, cheer for the underdog, wacky humor. I think even teens of today will enjoy its humor, and this movie, although some of the language and humor is suggestive, is lacking nudity and gross violence. So I think it's safe for most families. Enjoy!!!

Wanna Get to know Adam Sandler?

Halariously funny for Adam Sandler lovers. I dont know how to review this movie but every line that is said in this movie was halarious and on target. It beat Billy Madison In my eyes.

Completely Hilarious

I absolutely love this movie. Adam sandler is absolutely hilarious as he portrays a washed up hockey player who turns to golf and finds that he's very good at it.

As a non-Sandler fan, I liked this one!

I'm certainly not a big Sandler fan, as all his comedies seem tooalike...except this one. Happy Gilmore. Basic story. Happy'sgrandmother is booted from her home, which Happy's grandfather built byhand or something. Happy stumbles upon a great golf swing of his, nodoubt due to the fact that he is also a hockey player. So Happy workshis way up the circuit and makes money, friends, and enemies along theway in his mission to get the house back, and you can imagine thesquare peg in a round hole scenario you get from having a hockey playerin the golf world. Now unlike the typical Sandler comedy, thesupporting cast is just too good to make this typical. ChristopherMcDonald is hilarious as the arrogant veteran golfer, Shooter McGavin,as he steals nearly every scene he's in. Carl Weathers is good asChubbs Peterson, the golf pro with a wooden hand anxious to trainHappy. Also look for Bob Barker's cameo, Ben Stiller's sleazycharacter, and even Richard Kiel - who played Jaws in the James Bondmovies.Surprisingly there's never really an unentertaining moment and all thejokes and gags seem to hit more often than miss. Check this out, evenif you don't care for Sandler's other movies, you may like it. I givethis a 7 or 8.

An Instant Classic........ "Two Thumbs Up !!!!!"

This movie, is has to be the funniest golf movie since "Caddyshack", and gave golf a whole new image!!! Adam Sadler stars as a wanna be hockey player, who has a great slap shot, but can't skate for crap, but when his Grandmother's house is taken by the IRS, he decides to try golf and goes to driving ranges !!! It turns out he has one heck of a tee shot too, a 400 yard one, in fact, that people pay to see!!! One day, Chubs Peterson a golf legend (in the movie), convinces him to play at the Waterbury Open, the winner would be allowed to join the pro tour, Happy joins to make the big bucks!!! From their he ends up winning, and even got an ace on a par 4!!! Happy becomes, known quickly by the golfing world, with his long shot, and bizzare behavior, swearing, beating the living sh*t out of people, throwing stuff,.... which has you rolling on the floor in laughter!!! He soon takes the world by storm and becomes the center of attention, and rolling in the dough and attracting new faces to the golf courses, but his bitter rival Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald), has his own plans for Happy Gilmore, constantly schemeing against him, along with his affair with Viginia Bennet(Julie Bowen),...... heck he even manages to get in a wrestling match with Bob Barker, which was very funny!!! Happy must face Shooter, in the PGA world championship, in a final showdown, filled with plenty of humor, excitment, and some drama!!! This is one of the funniest sport movies of all time, .... damn I wish golf was like this in real life!!! This is an instant classic with an awesome performance by Adam Sandler, also staring in movies like: Mr. Deeds, Billy Madison, 50 First Dates, Big Daddy, Anger Management, Spanglish, and The Longest Yard!!! Happy Gilmore was an important film in his career though and becomes an instant classic, and this is one of his best performances!!! With a terific cast including: Carl Weathers, Julie Bowen, Bob Barker, Richard Kiel, Kevin Nealon, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald!!! This movie is filled with non stop laughs, and if you want an outstanding comic, that you can watch over and over again with out getting tired of it, this is it!!! Overall, I will give this a 5/5, about 1,000 laughs per minute, Great Job, and love the concept of rouge golfer/ hockey wanna be!!!

Super Sandler.

I am not a particular lover of Adam Sandler, but out of all his moviesI would rate 50 First Dates and Happy Gilmore as not only his twoshining moments but two of the funniest and enjoyable films I haveseen.Sandler plays the title character, a deluded hockey player of limitedintelligence and unlimited instability, who due to the repossession ofhis Grandmothers home, reluctantly takes up pro golf in order that hecan win enough money to settle with the IRS and reclaim the house. The only problem with this plan is that his golfing skills are on parwith his abilities as a hockey player, which leaves a lot to bedesired. The only thing he has going for him is his talent for driving the ballover 400 yards using his hockey slap shot.He turns to one-handed former golf pro Chubbs Peterson played to comicperfection by Carl Weathers, to iron out his short game in order hedoes not lose his long driving advantage when he reaches the green. He also takes on board the beautiful Virginia Venit the tournament'sPR, who helps Happy control his almost psychotic temper and focus moreon his game. I don't know about you, but with someone as gorgeous asJulie Bowen next to me, golf would be the very last thing on my mind! She must be one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in themovies. The film offers run of the mill Zero to Hero schmaltz and from the word'Go' we are left with no uncertainty of how it will turn out, but hisjourney to the final championship, is a cleverly written comedy withstrong performances from all involved most notably by ChristopherMcDonald as Gilmore's arrogant and devious opponent Shooter Mcgavin.McGavin will stop at nothing to finally win his much coveted GoldJacket and his interplay with Gilmore as he tries all sorts of ways tohave him removed from the tournament is hilarious, and provides thefilm with most of the gags. However what I found to be the most gut wrenchingly funniest moment inthe picture, was the old man at the ice rink as he solemnly mimes thewords to Endless Love. Brilliant.Look out for a wonderful and hilarious scene where Happy has a violentpunch up with American game show host Bob Barker and a great cameo fromBen Stiller as the sadistic nursing home orderly. One question though. The midget cowboy on the unicycle in the dreamsequences......Whats all that about?

If I could only have one DVD....

Adam Sandler is perfectly hilarious along with the fabulous cast of supporting actors. The girl in it isn't funny at all but in order to make the plot deep and well-rounded there had to be a love interest wth dramatic flair. I can say the same for "Billy Madison." It doesn't mater whether you like golf or not. The movie's about more than the game. It's about a dream and a guy named... Happy.

A little guy on one those horses for a dream sequence wasinspired!Christopher McDonald is great as the evil SHOOTERBut this film is made great by the amazing cameo by Ben Stiller as thenurse! great great movie

hey my names Desmond Carson and i have to say that happy Gilmore is myfavourite film of all time. Apart from the comedy value of it which waspure classic Adam Sandler the guy just gets to me every time and I seemsubtly drawn to his cute little smile in every film I watch. I don'tknow why it is but he just gives me a weird little tingle every time Iwatch him that I've only experienced once before in my life with a manI loved dearly but I really just think Adam Sandler is a beautiful godand really should have won an Oscar for this film because it was easilythe sexiest film of all time. I've never been so interested in golf inmy life and this film actually made me take up the sport to try andfind a guy who's bum was just as cute as Adam Sandler's in that filmAwesome ten out of ten

FUNNIEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME

Adam Sandler at his best, original storyline, wonderful acting, hilarious comedy. I've watched it at least two dozen times and I still almost die laughing every time I see it.I have never seen a funnier movie.

(2012-03-22 02:02:33)

Just plain dumb

I think I laughed once during the whole movie. It really surprises me how many people thought this movie was hilarious. I've only recently watched a couple Adam Sandler movies because I told a friend I didn't like Adam Sandler(I couldn't stand his routine on Saturday Night Live), so he challenged me to watch some.He raved, and others of my friends raved, about Happy Gilmore. Well I watched it and I just thought it was so dumb. That idiotic voice he uses sometimes and beating everyone up...it was just so stupid to me. I would've stopped after the first 10 minutes, but I thought I owed it to my friend to finish the whole thing. Yuck! This was the typical Adam Sandler that I expected and do not like. Click was pretty good. I was surprised to like that one. But Happy Gilmore gets a big thumbs down from me. I guess I'm the odd ball since everyone else seems to love it. Ha.

Adam Sandler has never been a real favorite of the critics, but Happy Gilmore is undeniably one of his most successfully hilarious comedies.

In Happy Gilmore, Sandler plays the part of a determined hockey player whodoesn't make the team but soon inadvertently discovers that his hockeyskills translate very nicely onto the golf green. Until the point in thefilm where Happy begins playing golf, most of the laughs come from hismisfortune (`Happy Gilmore… I called your name, didn't I?' [eagerly] `No,you didn't.' `Oh, well, better luck next year!!'), but it is the conflictiveinteraction between himself as a self-proclaimed hockey player and the muchmore formal and (for lack of a better word) high class game of golf thatmakes up the majority of the entertainment for the rest of the film. There is clearly a take on the classic odd-couple comedy structure here, asSandler's vulgar hockey habits collide with the neatness and formality ofthe golf green, and for the most part, this comedy scheme works pretty wellhere. Sandler seems to adopt the character of Happy Gilmore with greatrelish as he displays violent acts of hilariously misplaced aggression, clearly foreshadowing his similar actions as Bobby Boucher in The Waterboy.Indeed, some of the funniest parts of the film come from his lengthy streamsof profanity at the misbehaved ball when it doesn't go where he wants it togo (`PIECE!! OF!! MONKEY *beep*!!'). So you have an undeniably entertaining and amusing character who doesundeniably funny things, but it is at the logical level that this film fallson its face. Luckily for the movie and for its fans, this is not the mostimportant element of a movie like this. It's not very likely that a sloblike Happy, who doesn't make the hockey team, is going to suddenly findhimself bringing in thousands and thousands of dollars left and right, andstick to his plan to buy his grandmother's house back. You would think that, having seen that he can make that much money, he would at least have keptgoing for a while instead of quitting as soon as he had accumulated enoughto buy back the house. A noble cause, obviously, but no red blooded Americanmale on the planet is going to just quit the game because he prefers hockeyor he hates his lead opponent. But who cares? Sandler delivers the steadystream of laughs as Gilmore with such skill that the comedy of the film farovershadows any such imperfections. Gilmore himself seems to be a bit overly violent in scenes where it doesn'tseem entirely necessary, and there is clearly some overdone productplacement, but it doesn't take away from the rest of the film. Mike Meyersmade brilliant use of product placement in Wayne's World in such ways thatadded hugely to the comedy of the film (although he tripped over thistechnique in Austin Powers 2, when he made it massively over-emphasized andstonily unamusing), and the excessive violence of the Gilmore character isjustified (although just barely) by the fact that his imperfectcharacteristics make his efforts (or lack thereof) to fit in withprofessional golfers even more amusing. As the pros stand around sippingexpensive wine and discussing their respective accomplishments, Happy walksin asking where the pinball machine and the keg are. They want fame andrecognition, he wants money and beer (and Virginia, the sexy reporter whofills the role of the obligatory love interest in the typical Sandler film). There are a lot of scenes in Happy Gilmore that, as much as I personallyenjoy the movie, simply fall flat (many of which involve the homeless guywho Happy employs as his caddie, or the nutcase that Shooter McGavin employsto destroy Gilmore's chances of winning the tournament, or anythinginvolving Chubbs' prosthetic hand) but the film succeeds where it issupposed to. Sandler presents Gilmore as a strangely likeable character, despite all of his destructive habits, and the film is peppered with othernotable performances, not the least of which are by Carl Weathers as Chubbs, the former golf pro who takes upon himself the immense task of taming thewild Gilmore, and Christopher MacDonald, in yet another brilliantlyhate-able role as the immutable Shooter McGavin. Happy Gilmore is a comedy from Adam Sandler, which means that you alreadyknow what kind of movie that you are going to get here, so don't complain ifit turns out to be what you expected. Sandler does not make award-winningfilms, and chances are he never will, but the comedic value of Happy Gilmoreis unquestionable. It is, to sum it up just as briefly as movies like thiscan be summed up, a perfect example of what I like to call Fast Food Cinema. It's a lot of fun, but there's no nutritional value.

Some very funny moments.

Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) is a hockey player who has notablehandicap: he sucks. His slapshot translates to a jaw-dropping 400 yardtee. When he finds out his grandma's house is in the hands of the IRS,he competes in a golf tournament to win the needed money. His rival isone Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald), who buys the house just totick off Happy.A typical Adam Sandler vehicle that audiences love andcritics crucify.Much of the film is low-brow and crude humor, but thereare many funny moments that make this a guilty pleasure: the fight withBob Barker, Ben Stiller's cruel warden at the old folks home, and thegreat Richard Kiel.Rating: **1/2 (out of ****)
