On point1.Best book to movie adaption so far 2.Acting of the trio has improvedten-fold Rupert Grint shines above 3.Visual effects and fighting scenesso good any action head would agree 4.The three brothers animation isfantastic with a kind of Tim Burtonesgue feel 5.The split was neededand was done so fantastic it leaves you at the edge of your seat, thereis no way this could have been done in one movie SPOILER However 2thing that were left out i feel are very important 1. The painting ofPhineas Nigellus that they took from Grimauld Place was not in themovie and this is how Snape found out were the trio were to pass thesword of Gryffindor on to them which means that they will probably makeup another reason for how he found them in part 2 2. Harry Potter andthe Deathly Hallows ..... 3 hallows "The wand - The Stone - TheInvisibility Cloak" There is absolutely no mention or scene with theinvisibility cloak ....huge flaw in my opinion as the trio use it a lotin the book to help them travel and is a huge part of the story Butoverall this move is the best so far |

The fireworks have yet to be lit, a long slow boring journeyThe effects are of course, amazing, but really, this part one of partseven is so boring. The joy and youth of all the previous films aregone which is understandable, but the trio of protagonists, Harry,Hermonie and Ron have a road trip of sorts. Largely left to their owndevices, I wanted Harry to wave his magical wand around and hurryproceedings up. The darkest and most glum of the films, Lord Voldemortis the personification of evil. He wants to take over the world, notjust Hogwarts and the Ministry of magic. The acting is super, allcasting is perfect with Helena Bonham Carter a standout. Theanticipation of a big cliffhanger will be on the minds of all watchingas the audience is aware the finale is not released until July. All Ican say is the fireworks have yet to be lit. Take in an extra choc-topthis is a sedate film to say the least, however, fans won't mind a bit. There is a clever animated sequence that explains exactly what thedeathly hallows are by the way, over all, slick but slow. |

A must have. This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (DVD) I've read the whole series. I have all of the movies. I consider it the best "children" book set ever written. As to quality, tops all the way. Good luck to the heroic trio in their future endeavors. I watched them grow up. I say goodbye to their childhood with regret. |

dvd quality bad, but great filmThis review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (DVD) I got this in the mail the afternoon of April 14th. I was so excited to have gotten it early, I rushed home to watch it. I was incredibly mad, however, at the quality and packaging of the film. On the plastic covering, it said that the DVD was made in Mexico. And the quality sucked. It was not clear and was slightly pixilated at certain points. The movie itself is amazing, just not the DVD. Plus, it only had 5 deleted scenes, and no other special features! That was dissapointing. It had:15. The Dursley House16. Dudley and Harry83. Ministry of Magic Lifts89. Tentand108. Ron and Hermione Skimming Stones |

My favourite of the seriesI have always been a fan of David Yates' efforts on the Harry Potterseries, since his first adaptation 'Order of the Phoenix' in 2007 leftme with a lot of hope for the preceding instalments, his vision of theworld felt far more real, he brought a depth to the characters and madethe most mature and darkest of the lot at that point. Yet he stileretained the fantasy elements which help make it such an engaging tale.I was over-the-moon when I learned that he would continue to helm thefranchise with 'Half-Blood Prince' and I felt his vision was strongagain as he developed the characters relationships perfectly and set-upthe events of Hallows well. His second outing looked beautiful -theaesthetic was truly artistic- his style was subtle but wondrous and hebuilt the Gothic, brooding tone masterfully. Of course, this wouldn'tbe possible if the producers hadn't went a-looking for someone freshand I've always been curious how the came across Yates (even he himselfseems unsure) but I honestly believe it was the right decision andthink he truly understands and cares for this story and its charactersfar more than any of the previous directors. Ever since viewing hisTV-picture 'Sex Traffic' I truly believed that he had a real talent anddespite some flaws I think his films are genuinely brilliantexperience.I confess that despite becoming a fan of his work, I was still a littlewary of how the final films would work. There were some worries that itcould turn out as uninspiring and bland as COS due to the claims of thecloseness to the source material, that splitting the novel would be anawkward and poor decision and that perhaps my expectations had risentoo high. Although as soon as the camera flew into the WB logo andimmersed the screen in darkness with the unnerving sound of corrosion Ifelt completely enthralled. The emotion in the opening was verypowerful, and the montage was a really wonderful beginning conveying asense of the danger at hand. One thing I noted about Part I is thatonce again it feels like a natural progression of the story afterHalf-Blood Prince. That's something that I admire about Yates his filmsalways feel like a continuation of each other, they all feel differentand unique yet are strongly bonded and actually feel like a series. The acting from the three leads is stronger than ever and many timesthroughout the film Emma Watson really steals the show but Rupert andDan both have their excellent scenes as well. The adult cast is as goodas ever and even characters who are essentially cameo roles give a verynice performance. The film looks stunning and there's many beautifulshots and the scenery and landscapes are used to their full potential. There's dozens of creative viewpoints and movements (such as a handfulof 360 shots, tracking shots) and a chase sequence with a blurryhand-held. The film feels far more grounded than the previous six, itseems much more real yet retains an element of fantasy. This is obviousin moments like the café fight which resembles a shoot-out type ofsequence, it is also greatly aided by the real environment such asforests, hills, bridges and cities which stray away from thefantastical realm of Hogwarts and paints a far grittier backdrop. Thefantasy elements are not forgotten and they can be found in manysuperbly done set-pieces like the infiltration of the Ministry andRon's struggle against a horcrux. While the film is definitely the darkest and most emotional of thebunch it does contain some very funny parts such as the PolyjuicePotion scenes. The movie contains many fine set=pieces and the actionis intense and exciting. The movie is incredibly faithful to the novelbut doesn't suffer from Chamber of Secrets-syndrome it retains it's ownpersonality and avoid feeling like a plodding carbon-copy. The score isvery fitting and elevates the mood of scenes whether they be quirky orsorrowful Desplat's music adds another dimension to many of them. Hiscues really add a poetry to the film and often can be effective despitenot being entirely noticeable. The sound design is also very clever andthe locket horcrux is accompanied by a piercing sound which almost actsas a theme for it and shows the effect that it has on the trio. Thescript does feel a little clunky at times (mainly when introducing somenew characters) . Certain plot-points are glossed over and there are afew cheesy lines but overall the writing is very strong and thecombination of Kloves' words and Yates' direction really flesh out thetrio more on this journey. However, the film was certainly made forthose who have read the books and I reckon that the Voldemort sub-plotmay be a little hazy for people unfamiliar with the story. The only bigissue I have is that the climax feels a bit underwhelming although theemotion is very effective in it and I found the incompleteness of theending really made me much more excited for the second part.Overall, I would say that Part I currently stands as my favourite filmin the series. The story is extremely well told and transposes avariety of emotion into the viewer. The characters are wonderful, thetechnical aspects excellent, the action is swift and exciting and it issimply a brilliant journey with a handful of flaws. |

Product Quality ProblemThis review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (DVD) Like so many other reviewers my family found ourselves listening to a sound track while straining at a nearly black screen. We had heard this episode was 'dark' but really? I adjusted the brightness, sharpness and contrast settings on the television to the highest points and we could then see the images although the colors were gray and murky. This should be an unnecessary step to view a new digital release. |

Careful! This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (Three-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) This review is not about the movie. Be sure that you realize that you're getting Blu-Ray/DVD. You also need to be aware that the Special Features disc is only Blu-Ray. Wish I'd realized that before I bought this edition. I have no use for Blu-Ray and now I can't see the Special Features. |

The darkest, most emotionally powerful harry potter movie to date. These past 3 years with David Yates has been a roller-coaster ride. He's had his high moments, and then most of the time he's had his lowmoments. OTP was a decent movie, HBP was more of a romantic comedy thana harry potter movie, but with the deathly hallows part 1 Yates hitsthe nail straight on the head and brings in the emotion and story thatthe last two have been missing. The first 20 minutes for me were the most emotionally powerful. theyshowed how each of our three heroes are risking it all to save theworld from voldemort's clutches. some say that the beginning dragged alittle bit. but i thought it was perfectly paced. even though somespots were a little rushed, for example, the wedding sequence, but thatwas just to save time for the huge middle section of this epic movie.now the middle had some of my favorite scenes in the movie even thoughthere wasn't that much wand waving involved, and it also provided someof the best performances of the movie. one scene in particular was theHermione and harry dancing sequence, even though it wasn't in the bookit was an absolute breath of fresh air and happiness in this other wisedark and foreboding world. godrics hollow was very well done and so wasdobby's death. All in all harry potter and the deathly hallows is not only yates' bestmovie to date, but it is the most emotionally powerful of all of thepotter films |

The end is drawing closerThe seventh instalment of the world's biggest franchise opens the wayyou may expect our Prime minister to act, as if Bill Nighy waschannelling David Cameron and with such a moody tone about you knowwho's return, you know instantly this will once again be the darkestPotter to come out of Warner Brothers. As always going to see a Potter film at the cinema is a not to bemissed experience. To see all familiar faces with the stakes higherthan ever was exciting and we will never see anything like this everagain. This particular instalment, based on J.K Rowling's global knockoutstories, is the first part of the last book, seeing the three maincharacters set out on a mission to destroy all of Voldermort'shorcruxes, which are part of his soul.Returning director David Yates lets us know straight away we are in fora rough ride as a tearful scene sees Hermione wipe her parentsmemories. A too brief and not intense Dursley leaving and a torture atMalfoy's home will set the tone for the two and a half hours. However you can always rely on the supporting cast to give you a goodchuckle to remind us of what Potter is all about. Fred and George, albeit brief have a great few lines and screen time, Dobby the houseelf you can't help but laugh with and Ron always has something to say.It is great to see Rupert Grint get more intense and angry and hischaracter's jealousy sees the young star at his dramatic best.Radcliffe continues to cement a consistent character before our eyesand Watson is given more drama as well. There was a gut wrenching cornydance sequence that is the worst thing to ever happen to the series andmy friend and I just looked at each shaking our heads. But in allhonesty these two are the stand outs as the film is all set on theroads. The landscape settings are tremendous, some great choices andpicturesque art styling. There was a good chase sequence through aforest and the settings at Godric's Hollow was brilliant.Critics and fans have looked at this release and raised an eyebrow atthe 12A certificate. There are certainly a lot more graphic notes. Atorture scene at Malfoy's, a nude Harry and Hermione and snakes thatattack the camera. There are a lot of dark themes and scenes here so ifyou plan to take your children be cautious.Nevertheless the darkness is required given the context of this carefulstory. The stakes have raised and things are worse than ever formuggles and wizards alike. We find constant surprises as the trio arejumped numerous times by evil wizards, there is a lot of animositybetween friends and family and Voldermort always seems present as werevert back into dream sequences. At first everything is fast paced with great action, plenty of magicand a tender sadness given all injuries and deaths. When on the run thepace really slackens and you wish it would get moving again andthankfully it does in a flurry of wand battles, evil horcruxes andbloody torture. This isn't the best Potter by a long shot but it is, as always, something totally unique and entertaining.Only one more to go. |

My personal favourite of the Harry Potter movies so farJust for the record, I love the books(for a while Philosopher's Stonewas a huge favourite of mine) and I personally like the films. None ofthem are masterpieces, but they are likable, entertaining and I thinkwell made too. I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 withhigh expectations, there were many friends of mine who said it wasbrilliant and the best yet. After seeing it with my family last night Ihave to say Amen! This was a wonderful film in my opinion, and it doesa very good job sticking to a mammoth story. I also think they made theright decision splitting it into two parts, if they hadn't the result Ithink would have been too rushed. If I do have a criticism here, I do agree that the pacing is ratherslow. I think it started and ended brilliantly, it was the middle whereit dragged with a lot of admiring the scenery. As beautiful as it was,it didn't admit much to the story.Criticism aside, I adored the production values. The darker scenes wereindeed dark and somewhat bleak, especially the beginning at MalfoyManor where it looked like a film noir, while the scenery in the middleof the film was gorgeous. The music was another delight, it wassweeping, grandiose, majestic, for me the most complex and mostatmospheric of all the Harry Potter movie scores. The script is animprovement too, not that it was terrible in the other movies, butespecially I thought the humour was better judged(ie. Moody's commentabout the polyjuice potion), while the story despite the slow pacingwas never less than engrossing. There are a few scenes too that I especially liked. One was Dobby'sdeath, I thought it was heart-rending. Dobby was so lovable and funny, and in this instalment cute too I think(loved the trainers), although Iknew it was going to happen I couldn't help shedding tears. I thinkwhat got me were his last words, they were so poetic and touching.Another was Godric's Hollow, like the former I knew it was coming butit was done in an atmospheric and unnerving way I couldn't help jump. Iwas also taken with the first "obliviate" scene, the regret inHermione's face and voice made it incredibly poignant, while the 7Potters chase was both funny and thrilling. My favourite though was theThree Brothers animated sequence. I was wondering how they were goingto do that, and after seeing that scene I have to applaud the writers. It was a clever and beautifully done sequence, with some hauntingimages especially with death. Harry and Hermione's dance got mixedreactions in the cinema, some thought it was awkward and others like meliked it, at that one I thought they were going to kiss which I don'tthink would have gone down well.Yates's direction is also much better than it has been. It wasn't badin the other two films, but here it looked as though he took realcharge, and all the pivotal scenes here were in general wonderfullyhandled. The acting is mostly very good. Daniel Radcliffe is likableenough, and Rupert Grint has great comic timing. Emma Watson I thinkgives her best performance of the series so far and she steals everyscene she's in, while Alan Rickman while not in much is deliciouslysuave and dour. The two standouts for me were Helena Bonham Carter, whose Bellatrix was powerful and sometimes even scary and Ralph Fienneswho was really quite creepy sometimes without saying much at all. BillNighy's Scrimgeour is good but not as memorable, while I do think theywasted the Dursleys.Overall, a rock solid film that ended in a perfect place and mypersonal favourite of the series so far. In fact, it makes me all themore excited for the next. 9/10 Bethany Cox |

Special Effects specialWell, when the rating showed 8.1/10 then my reaction was are youkidding me? What the movie has got only special effects and nothingelse. The acting is nothing but average. The plot is not continuous -nothing happens for an hour and everything happens in 5 min. Then whythe hell make a movie of utter rubbish for 165 min. And finally thedialogues, well I have seen better in B-grade movies. Only one thing Iwant to add and well, it is a request (or to put it strongly a demandfrom an irate movie lover) - can I have my money back please? Or ratherpay me for going through such a disastrous ordeal! Definitely notlooking forward to part 7.2. |

The build up for the insane magic battle, the most complex in the franchise and yet mesmerizingPart 1 of "Deathly Hallows" is basically a build up for the finalinsane magical battle in part 2. I don't know if this is because it'sclose to this franchise ending, but I found the build up in this to beexciting and also entertaining. The cinematography and acting is thebest by far in this series. Even if this is a build up for part 2 itstill has a lot of action in it, so part 2 is gonna be action packedwith magic. This is the most mature Harry Potter movie and has a lot ofdark tone to it for the better. Overall it's a well directed movie thatgot my attention almost all the way through, the set pieces, thedirection and everything else was just mesmerizing. This is a engagingbuild up that is worth seeing even if your not really a fan of theHarry Potter books. I suggest watching the previous 6 movies althoughsome maybe painful to sit through for some. But it just might be worthit to know what is going on for the final installment.7.9/10 |

13 year Potter fan pleased with resultsI have judged and ridiculed every single Harry Potter film because I have read the books since I was 8, and now here we are at the end. While book 7 is filled with sooo much information, any things left out comprising the first half I think we were able to do without. Obviously movies will not be as good as books, they never are, but this film did a really good job on sticking with the script. After it was over I was pleased and of course sad about Dobby and all of that. It did happen like I imagined it would and overall I think Yates did an exceptional job. As for the actors, Dan, Emma, and Rupert all did extraordinary, and I loved the added scene of Emma in her 'muggle home,' very sad. I loved new people brought in (Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans) and I thought they did great portraying their characters. Obviously this film lacked some action because a lot of it was tying loose ends together, but all the action we will see in this next installment, which will prove the be the saddest and most heart-wrenching of them all. Coming from someone who has reread this final book 7 times, I found it to be complete and explanatory. If you haven't watched the other films recently or only halfheartedly paid attention you might misunderstand or just not understand some things, but if it was all nicely laid out for us and didn't require any thought whatsoever then...well, we'd just call it Twilight. I give this 5 stars and anxiously await the final film to see how this grand finale turns out. |

Movie Review on Harry PotterThis movie was really well done. I loved the editing, the music, theacting, the costumes, and set pieces. I would highly recommend thismovie. The ending was really sad and dramatic. The script was reallywell done. the director was excellent. Helena Bonham Carter was thebest. Emma Watson did a fantastic job. The pace of the movie was nottoo rushed. They adapted the book very well. It's to his great creditthat Yates can keep these slow-paced scenes captivating and then easilyswitch to the comfort of a well-timed joke or intense action scene.Despite an emphasis on these characters being lost, both directionallyand spiritually, Deathly Hallows – Part 1 is still a movie that knowshow to have fun. It just always mixes in the thrills with the sorrow. You can have a high-speed broom chase, but not everyone will make itout unscathed. You can have a funny and thrilling heist scene, butthere will be the undertones of Nazi Germany. It's a movie where ascene can begin with someone getting flushed down a toilet and end witha critical injury and yet somehow it all works. |

This Is Bigger Than You Harry.Oh how dimwitted yet incredibly intelligent Ron can be at times, as the above statement shows. He understands that the war that Voldomort has waged isn't just about Harry. Yes, he is a huge factor; but not the whole reason. And this film really starts to show us just how big this "war" has become. Reaching so far as to take over the "secure" and "powerful" Ministry of Magic, and even taking over the sacred halls of Hogwarts itself. But, Harry is still a large part of the war. He is the figure that the good stand behind now that the thought to be immortal Dumbledore is no more. And with that knowledge, so this film begins. Dumbledore is dead, and Harry is left clueless as to what he is to do with the fragments of knowledge that were left to him. He knows he must destroy the remaining Horocruxes; magical items housing split pieces of Voldomorts soul, keeping him immortal. But what are these items, how do you destroy them, and most importantly how do you find them. This is the main focus of Part 1. After realizing that he is not safe anywhere he goes, Harry with his trusted friends Ron and Hermione go on the run to find these remaining objects and learn how to destroy them.Deathly Hallows is one of the most well structured films of the series to date. Many things that the amazing J.K. Rowling wrote in the novel would have weighed the film version down and made it feel disjointed, but Steve Kloves has done a magical job at finding the root story, and side stories that are relevant to this. He has also given us one of the most emotional scripts, delivered with true and powerful performances by all; particularly by our core three. Daniel, Emma and Rupert have truly become amazing actors/actresses. So many scenes in this film are very depressing and filled with tension and all three deliver. Small additions also make the film all that much more amazing. The dance that Harry and Hermione share after Ron abandons the cause, is truly heart felt and sweet. But the action and set design are also astounding. The opening chase sequence with the multiple Harry's being chased by the death eaters through the skies and streets of London was amazing and intense. And the infiltration of the Ministry to steal one of the horocruxes is ingenious and while funny, very intense as well, and also gives us the chance to once again see the amazing Imelda Staunton as the ever nasty Dolores Umbridge. The chase between the snatchers and the trio near the end of the film is also very intense. Giving props to Daniel, Emma and Ron is commendable but the supporting cast is also amazing. Ray Fiennes as Voldomort is as always creepy and nasty as Voldomort. And Alan Rickman; although underused; steals every scene his character Severus Snape is in. But I must say that the stand out in this film to me was Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange who played the role with such cunning and murderous venom that she stole each and every scene she was in. Her torturing of Hermione was a terrifying scene to hear and behold. Death is also a major theme in this film, we loose several loved characters and many people are scene dead or worse in the film, so to all those thinking of taking their little kids, I'd say no. The film is very dark and morbid, and has a very forboding sense of dread hanging over it. This is not Chamber of Secrets or even Order of the Phoenix. I was immensely satisfied with this film, even if it was incomplete, but it is a step in the right direction. I have been, unlike some, very impressed with the last few films, enjoying the more mature and tense filled films. With Half Blood Prince being my favorite to date, even better in my opinion than this one. So if your wanting to see a truly gripping film than go see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1. |

Very well adapted!A very nicely executed film, remaining true to the book where possible-although changes made from the book were usually for the best to workon film- such as the limited use of Polyjuice Potion in the film, purely because it doesn't work on-screen very well. The use of Hedwigas the trigger for Voldemort's appearance was a much more successfulway than the use of a spell. Much comedy was used throughout- butmainly from Ron or Dobby, who dominated every scene he appeared in(adding much needed tension relief to the plot). Steve Kloves hasadapted a much more down-to-earth feel to the Harry Potter franchise inhis screen-play of the book, but could be argued that it has lost someof its younger audiences due to heavy underlying issues and complicatedplot, which can be hard to follow if you haven't read the book. Sayingthat, they did cut lots of the unnecessary sub-plots that are in thebook, but fans may miss some of these 'meaningful' moments from the it.In conclusion, the film was very successful in adapting the book tofilm- especially with its superb performances from Bill Nighy and RalphFiennes- whilst adding its own elements to enrich the story. A must seefilm! |
