What if a human wants to become the co-Easter Bunny? This is a cute, very watchable animated farce. The fates of two youngmen, each with a disappointed father, meet in very unlikely terms.James Marsden is Fred O'Hare. As a young boy he remembers getting aglimpse of the Easter Bunny delivering candy Easter treats in his backyard. Now 20 years later he is still at home and his family plans anintervention. He needs to move out and get a job.Miles and cultures away on Easter Island is Russell Brand voicing E.B.,short of "Easter Bunny", as the son of the aging Easter Bunny isscheduled to take the job this year, but he just wants to be a drummer. So using the magical rabbit hole portal he runs away to Hollywood. There the fates of each get intimately mixed up. Kaley Cuoco is Fred's sister, Sam O'Hare. Gary Cole is Fred's dad,Henry O'Hare. And Elizabeth Perkins is Fred's mom, Bonnie O'Hare. Hugh Laurie with his British accent in full display is the old EasterBunny, E.B.'s Dad. David Hasselhoff makes an appearance as himself, looking for talent for his TV show, and E.B. gets to drum for him.We all remember the earlier days of the breakthrough in life-likecomputer animation, in such movies as "Tarzan", "A Bug's Life", "ToyStory", "Monsters Inc", and those movies. We marveled at the detail andrealistic animation. Now that the novelty has worn off these types ofmovies just aren't as fun as they might have been 10 years ago. Still,it is a pleasant diversion. |

If you're 12 or younger, you'll think it's hilarious. If you don't? It's going to be a long 95 minutes. |

Marsden is working it as he embraces the silliest of moments and makes us laugh. |

Hop past this oneI love kids movies, but this one was boring. The rabbit was cute and the music was good, but the story line was terrible and it dragged on! |

Though the integration of live action and animation is improving (especially a scene where E.B. cuddles with Fred's sister), it's still a slightly disorienting experience. |

All the funny parts are in the TrailerThe film just wasn't as funny as I thought it would be. It had a really slow cliche-like beginning, a slow middle, and the end couldn't come fast enough. For fluff and popcorn it just wasn't that entertaining at all. |

My point of view as a 17 year oldI am 17 and went along with my family to see this. Being 17 (ateenager...) I was quite embarrassed of seeing an animation movie ratedPG with my family, but I went along with it.I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn't the best. Being from the samecreators of Alvin and the Chipmunks, I prefer that over this beingthere squeaky voices help the comedy out. 1 thing I absolutely lovedabout this movie was the fact they made E.B. a drummer :D I am adrummer and I loved they finally made a movie with drumming in it.***THIS PART OF THE REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS***There was a few specific things I didn't like about it, along with somethings I liked about it.I did not like how they gave him a sleigh, made me think the writersgot a bit lazy and grabbed the closest thing they could think of (beingSanta Claus).I also didn't think there was to much comedy... When you watch thetrailer, you see a bunch of funny clips in it making the movie lookgreat and funny. But thats pretty much the only funny parts in it, allthe rest is eather arguing, running, or talking...The acting was good, and the graphics were awesome. I love how thesepeople made Alvin and now E.B. look so real. They make it look like heis actually there in every detail.Being a 17 year old, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone else my age. Iwould say to get a good laugh at it you would have to be younger than10. I don't regret seeing it, it was a cute show and a nice story (Iloved the pink berets, lol). |

HopHop wasn't the best animated movie I have seen, it wasn't the worst either. It is a great movie to take kids too, I just didn't like to when the bunny visited to playboy manision, I had some adult humor a little bit. I really liked to pink barays. |

[A] heavily marketed piece of unfunny. |
|
Leigh Paatsch (2012-04-14 20:29:55) |
A clunky, mirth-challenged mix of live action and animation, Hop should be bounced to the back of the family's to-do list in the coming holiday period. |

Andrew Simpson (2012-04-14 04:12:41) |
Hop is populated with humour that is slow, dated and mindless, an ADD confection of half-baked slapstick and notions of the healing power of Easter chocolate. |

Awesome Cute Rabbit movie…..But the last 36 minutes… -__-I first heard of this film on a bookmark. LOL I know, I saw E.B. on abookmark and I'm like, WTF? And it was a new movie called "Hop". I waslike…MKAY… And I never Actually saw it. It wasn't until, NOW I Foundout what it was. The DVD/Blu ray/ Special Edition in 3D with all 3discs combined together, Yadda yadda etc., That I gained interest init. I watched the trailer, and instantly fell in love with it. I got22$ the previous day, so I knew I could afford it. After a pain in theass trip to the doctor's My mom drove me to best buy to buy this. Cameback home, and watched it. Here's what I think of it.NEGATIVES: EVERYTHING…WAS PERFECT… but as soon as the Movie hit the 1hour mark, the director was like… You know what? Let's turn this into acliché evil villain, Christmas (sort of) knock off. And the very last30 seconds was so cheesy that I felt like throwing up cheese blocks. Positive: One of the cutest movies I've seen. (but not in a, Dora TheExplorer Cute, but a…..RABBIT CUTE….What?) Animation is Very nice.Story is great, Takes a whole different meaning on the Easter holiday.Carlos is awesome… EXPECT FOR THE LAST 36 Minutes. Got a stronginterest in drumming after watching this.Overall, It's a great movie. (FAR Better then Alvin and the crapmunks)just….The freaking last 36 minutes…..*Sigh*....You know what? I shouldloosen up. Just enjoy it for what it is. Your just supposed to have funwith it. 10/10. |

Weak....Contains spoilersWhat can I say about children's films? Some are brilliant, some arerubbish, and some are just okay. This film, slides into the 'rubbish'genre. Hop was terrible. Total garbage. It may be able to keep tiny oneshappy, but to other kids? They wont like it. The reason why, is thatthe story is VERY undeveloped. We know EB wants to drum- but he neverreally has a strong hatred for being the easter bunny. He leaves forHollywood- but in the conversation he has beforehand (or argument, ifyou can call it that) makes it seem like they have had the conversationmany times before. At the beginning when I went and sat down to see this movie- I thoughtthe first ten minutes were quite good. Good effects, cutesy bunnies,candy...I thought 'hey, this can't be that terrible' and settled in.But after that ten minutes, it got bad. There is a subplot about a young man trying to find a job. This isusually the case with talking animal movies (Alvin and the Chipmunks, anyone?) and of course, Hop appears when he seems to be getting hislife together. I waited for something funny, but my god, the humor isas dry as yesterday's cornbread. The only thing that was slightlyhumorous was Russel Brand's job - He did very well in his role, if onlythey had given him a better script! There is a very forced together relationship between EB and the man whois so plain I have forgotten his name already. Like all talking animalmeets human movies, he makes some attempt to hate him. The thing thatreally got me was the fact that he jumped between hating him to likinghim in a matter of minutes. There was no meaningful conversation, nobig event. In fact if I remember correctly, he only starts to like himonce he learns that EB is the easter bunny. There are also an array of pointless scenes. One with the mans sistercoming over to check on the house, one with the man attending hislittle sisters concert which turns into EB singing 'I want candy' whichwas painful to watch, and another with a talent show - Hop nailsit...But in the end, it is forgotten anyway. The villain is a huge letdown. Very undeveloped. He is a chick namedCarlo's I think, who wants to be the easter bunny. We all knew who hewas from the first ten minutes, and throughout the movie kept hintingthat he wanted to be the easter bunny. But he NEVER did anything evilbefore this! He would mutter something in a evil voice now and then, but nothing that terrible! There should have been a scene at leastexplaining his plan (which he didn't have, by the way) or making somesort of resentment to rabbits. His part was sloppy and not well done.He literally got rid of all his foes in around ten seconds. The climax of the movie was awful. EB watches as the chick starts upthe machine to start delivering easter, and one of the chicks is incharge of starting the engine off (which doesn't actually have anengine, chicks are pulling it) with red paddles to indicate where tofly. EB distracts him by drumming, which makes him dance and leads himto crashing the vehicle. The ending was by far the worst thing of the movie. Carlo's is notjailed, neither are the other chicks, but they are back to workingagain. That is one thing that makes no sense. Secondly, when Carlo'stouched the 'egg of power' staff, he turned into a bunny as 'only theeaster bunny can wield its power' but however towards the end of themovie, EB's father makes EB and the man BOTH the easter bunny, the mandoes not turn into the easter bunny. There's another. A third is thereaction from the mans family- who throughout the ENTIRE movie, havebeen pestering for him to get a job. They are suddenly hugely proud ofhim. How is he supposed to earn a living being the easter bunny? Plentyof other things don't make sense, but I'll let you see the movie tofind out. It looks like they pasted the end together very quickly to bein time for easter. Trust me on this, it's not fantastic. |

Cute CuteThis review is from: Hop (Amazon Instant Video) Gotta say, this is a bit corny, but was pretty good. Many laughs here and there, and old and young jokes too! Great movie for the season is here for Easter. |

All in all, it's hard to know for whom "Hop" is made. |

Impressively animated, nicely written and gently amusing family comedy, enlivened by a terrific central performance from James Marsden and a weirdly note-perfect vocal effort from Russell Brand. |

Nice to have movies actually for kidsYou know it sort of annoys me that people bag on movies like Hop butget all excited about things like Kung Fu Panda, Rango and DespicableMe. This is a movie made for kids and besides my 4 year old and all theother kids in the theater laughing, dancing and clapping in sheeramazement, I must say I chuckled pretty hard several times. Sure thescript and acting is not going to win any SAG awards but I alwaysevaluate how movies execute on what they are trying to accomplish. Ifyou can appreciate a good zombie movie then you probably get my point. At any rate as a parent after seeing Rango I pretty much had decidedthat navigating movies to entertain your kids is a challenge now.Everyone tries to be so clever and impress adults and really that isnot the point of kids movies. Don't get me wrong we don't shelter ourdaughter (her favorite movies are Star Wars, original of course) but alot of stuff out there is just boring to kids.Nothing original??? Really. Please refer me to the other movies wherethe world of the Easter Bunny was so magically created like Santa'sworkshop the way Hop executed on it...Well at any rate parents feel safe bringing your kids to Hop andknowing that they will most likely enjoy it. It's my 4 year old's newfavorite so for that it gets 9 stars. |

Dreary, forced, unfunny, juvenile without actually being stupid enough to provoke a laugh. At least it's not in 3D. |
