Much better than the Jim Carrey version

In Holland we are not very familiar with the stories of Dr. Seuss. Afterthe2000 movie with Jim Carrey that didn't change very much but at least nowweknow how this story goes. This much earlier animated version is a lot better than the Jim Carreymovie. Of course that movie looked beautiful and Jim Carrey did a prettygood job as the Grinch, but it was too long and didn't feel like a realChristmas movie. This one has the right length and really has a Christmasfeeling, with the right message.

Just an OK Set

This review is from: Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Asi mention in another review, the child did not like this collection of shows as well as the Charlie Brown Blu-Ray collection. It's an OK set but I would stay with the Charlie Brown set.

Overpriced

This is a beloved classic, practically ruined by Hollywood in the live-action remake by Ron Howard. But a 26 minute Blu-Ray for $20+ bucks? The Grich may have stolen Christmas, but Warner is attempting to steal our hard earned cash. Wait for this one to go in the bargain bin by Christmas '09, then snatch it up for a better price.

It's not just a movie for children...

This review is from: HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS/HORTON (DVD) Being an adult, or atleast a person who attempted to be one from 8 to 5 each day, How the Grinch Stole christmas has always been one of my favourite animated movies. Dr Seuss was simply a master of rhyme, and the animation of this story...priceless. The grinch, the poor little dog with the antlers affixed to his little head, and all the who's down in whoville make this a movie to be enjoyed by children of all ages :)

Classic holiday treat

This review is from: Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Deluxe Edition) (DVD) If you love great holiday stories and Doctor Seuss then you 'll love this great DVD! Good quality, obviously not crystal clear animation due to the fact it was made 40 some years ago. Nevertheless the amazing creative story shines through everytime with every viewing, I love it!

An old classic

This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (DVD) The movie plays in my DVD-player bought in Sweden, which is the biggest reason for why I'm happy with it. I didn't really think it would. Other than that, the colours are good, however the sound a littled muffled. All in all I'm pleased with the product. It took maybe some two weeks before it arrived from Amazon, so for a while there I thoght it would't show up at all (I'm in Sweden), but eventually it did. Payment seems to have worked as well.

Kids loved it

This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (DVD) I really wanted to get this DVD for my kids this year and they loved it. Though I think that the $14 I spent my be a little much for 20 minutes of viewing. This might be more economical to buy as a set with other holiday movies.

Incomplete

This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Deluxe Edition) (DVD) They cut out portions of the songs! I bought the DVD when my VHS tape wore out, and I'm very disappointed. The tampering was done with surgical precision, so anyone unfamiliar with the original wouldn't know the difference. But I grew up with this on TV and then on video, so 40-something years of acquaintance make me acutely aware of this change, and I hate it! I'm fixing my VCR so I can watch the VHS version I just bought to replace the DVD. I sure hope it's intact!!This review is for the Deluxe Edition of this DVD, UPC #883929042258. It has an outer cover sheath that is glittery. Whoopee. Making it sparkly doesn't make up for shaving the songs I have loved for so long! Shame on you, Warner Brothers!

Always have to watch this Dr Seuss classic at Christmas time.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas is a fantastic Christmas classic fromthe genius mind of Dr Seuss, with a touch of Looney Tunes magic fromChuck Jones, this is one of my all time favorite Christmas classics anone that I always have to watch at Christmas time.In a town named WhoVille lives a monster called TAhe Grinch, all thepeople of WhoVille are getting ready for Christmas, but The Grinch has aheart two sizes too small and Christmas is his least favorite time ofyear,so he decides, along with his dog,to steal all thepresents,Christmas trees and food from every house in WhoVille.-DILLON HARRIS

So Good, It Need Not Even Be Christmas

Take a Dr. Seuss classic, animate it by Chuck Jones, and give thevoices to horror icon Boris Karloff and Thurl Ravenscroft (Tony theTiger). What do you get? A cartoon so great, it can be enjoyed evenoutside of Christmas, and so great that it actually outdoes theoriginal Suess story (something other adaptations have not been assuccessful at).Karloff is excellent. Many people recognize Vincent Price's voice asgood narration, but Karloff was not as respected, I think. This is achance for him to shine. There are some interesting questions that could be raised here: whydoes Whoville celebrate Christmas? I mean, you know, that would implythey are a traditionally Christian people. I don't think that's likely. Also, at one point they refer to Christmas' "true meaning"... not surehow to take that meaning.

The Classic Grinch!!!!

This is always a good cartoon for Christmas time, and it's a hard-core classic. The Grinch dresses up as Santa Claus and steals all the presents from Who-Ville. Will he ever learn the true meaning of Christmas? I highly recommend HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS!!!!

You're an entertaining one, Mr. Grinch.

The wonderful wording and humor of Theodore Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss)combines with some splendid animation, courtesy of the legendary ChuckJones, and some memorable songs, to make this treasured holidayfavorite. Our green meanie The Grinch resents those in Whoville fortheir tireless devotion to the Christmas season, which he can'tunderstand much less tolerate. So he plans to take it away from them, with the very reluctant assistance of his put upon dog Max. So much ofthis special works, not the least of which is Seuss's way for creatingendearing nonsense words and ability with catchy poetry. It's an evenbigger bonus to have the voice of none other than Boris Karloff torecite the story and also provide voice to The Grinch. The character isa great one, and when he finally redeems himself, it's a moment worthapplauding. The message of the special comes through loud and clear:it's not so much all the trimmings and trappings of Christmas thatmatter, it's the sentiment. The holiday comes from the heart. By theend, the tale has become quite touching, and it's nice to see the greenguy celebrating right along with The Whos. The show stopping tune"You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is something I imagine it would be hardnot to sing along to. It's got some brilliant lyrics: "You've gotspiders in your smile, you've got garlic in your soul." ThurlRavenscroft's rendition of this tune is wonderful. Although there'sonly two other characters of any note, they're both cute and appealing:Cindy Lou Who and Max the Dog. This is truly something people cancontinue to share with their children and pass down a generation at atime.10/10

Classic Christmas Fun for All Ages. Awesome!

To see the Grinch on the crystal clear format of DVD is a real treat. This is, without a doubt, the way to go if you want classic christmas fun and a great story. The unforgetable story of the mean old grinch is still as enchanting as it ever was. Who can forget the wonderful songs of the film, especially "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." When you sit down to watch the film, you will be amazed at the superb quality of the sound and picture, and no comercial breaks. * * * * * (5 stars) I highly recomend it. You wont regret it!
