I WATCHED THIS MOVIE WITH MY 14 YEAR OLD GRANDAUGHTER WE BOTH ENJOYED IT VERY MUCHThis review is from: I Am Number Four (DVD) MY GRANDDAUGHTER AND I BOTH THOUGHT IT WAS AN EXCELLENT MOVIE, LOTS OF ACTION ETC. WE WERE BOTH HAPPY THAT IT DID NOT CONTAIN SEX/NUDE SCENES LIKE SO MANY MOVIES DO TODAY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. IF YOU LIKE ACTION MOVIES, THIS HAS PLENTY. |

A big failureWell, if I were 13 years old I would appreciate this movie but I amnot. The idea was good actually but acting, screenplay, directing, effects ( I mean it), character development, everything else was a bigfailure. I read some comments that talk about great visual effects. Didwe watch the same movie? Coming back to the idea, it was good since itwas taken from other movies such as Terminator. During the whole movie,I was really really bored. Once again, cheesy characters do not fitinto SciFi. Unless you have a serious idea with serious peopleexecuting it, usually the result is disaster. So, avoid it by allmeans. It is a waste of time. |

Great Movie, Give it a Chance.Visually this movie was great. The characters were likable and therewas seriously kick-ass scenes. Even though the movie is slow moving at the beginning, it picks upspeed fast and is quite enjoyable action movie. I think the casting isdone well, Alex Pettyfer is quite convincing and both Dianna Agron andTeresa Palmer perform as well. Callan McAuliffe and Timothy Olyphantall so add to the movie depth. Unlike the Twilight Franchise, whichmany people are referring to, this movie made sense without having readthe book (I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore). This movie had great visual effects and easy and engaging storyline, agreat cast and overall is a great movie to go and see, no matter whatyou age. If you prefer action over romance or sci-fi over suspense or asupernatural twist, this movie will please all.No matter if you think you've seen movies like this before, I urgeeveryone to go and give this movie a go. |

Surprisingly goodI was pleasantly surprised with this movie. There was enough action to keep entertained and enough supernatural events incorporated for it to remain interesting. It is a bit refreshing to see a movie that is not based on a book, cartoon, television show, is a remake, comes out in 3D, is a prequel or a sequel - unless of course this falls into one of these categories and I just do not know it :o) |

Really loved it...ACTION FLICK & DATE-MOVIE - RICH TO BOTH AudiencesALEX PETTYFER dominates every scene. And TIMOTHY OLYPHANT effortlessly inhabits the guardian/father/mentor. He listens, he demands, he is a warrior, and superb motivator...the man that lurks in the harbor of desire of kids and great Dads everywhere.* Peppered with humor in an exciting ORIGINAL story, it is an action flick & it a good date-movie for the blossoming love story & without gallons of blood.Returning to ALEX PETTYFER; Alex has striking movie star good looks...the camera adores him & the director wisely stays with his reactions. In almost every scene, it was tough to take eyes off him, even when joined in scenes by any of the gorgeous females picked to surround him.Alex has matured in acting ability from Tom Brown's Schooldays [age 13] & Alex Rider - Operation Stormbreaker (Widescreen Edition) [age 15]. Working with great British actors in those, Alex clearly did not squander absorbing advice & learning acting choices from them. [Both films available on Netflix & Amazon.com]* Alex Pettyfer has a lithe sense of quiet movement; capably showing fitting emotion through facial expression, body language, & movement. The rest of the cast are well positioned for their roles, and hopefully, subsequent sequels. I AM NUMBER FOUR easily shows up 200-mil-plus effects-laden, plummeting paper weights. Let's hope that Steven Spielberg & Michael Bay stay aboard for a `next in the series' film...soon...while the actors are young enough to continue their roles.* I AM NUMBER FOUR imprints on watchers like the first Star Wars; resonating with audiences on first viewing, & then returning for second & future showings. Don't miss I AM NUMBER FOUR on a BIG screen in a movie theater. |

Slow moving and forced.Wow... But not in a good way. This movie was extremely slow moving. Theplot was virtually non existent. Even the kids were bored. It was all Icould do to not turn it off. I'm all for story lines that are unreal aslong as they capture some sort of interest. This was just ridiculous, tedious, and boring. The visual effects weren't bad, but weren't enoughto keep the movie interesting. Teen drama was so forced which I foundinteresting as teen drama, by its very nature, has a LOT of leeway.I'd rather watch the Jetsons again - and we walked out on that movie. They could have cut the first hour and a half down to about 20 minutesand got to the point. Once Number four meets Number six the movie picksup a bit but wasn't worth watching - even for a free rental. |

Lacks cohesiveness and overly ambitious"I Am Number Four" is an action science-fiction thriller with an interesting premise. Number Four (Alex Pettyfer) is an alien whose home planet, Lorien, was destroyed by an evil race of hit men called the Mogadorians. Four is one of nine Lorien children sent to Earth to escape their planet's destruction. Legend says that they will eventually gain enough power to vanquish the Modadorians. So the Mogadorians have tracked them to Earth, intent on wiping out all nine. One, Two and Three have already been killed. Four must act quickly and decisively, but first he must hide in plain sight. How? By enrolling in his local high school. This movie is all over the place and far too ambitious. Sometimes it aspires to be "The Matrix," other times "The X Files," and still others a John Hughes flick. Bonus extras on the Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Combo Pack include a making-of featurette, bloopers, and six deleted scenes. |

action packed and a joyful watchThis movie is actually quite good. I enjoyed the plot, and thought thatat some points it did become quite tense (there was a part where theguy was thrown onto the school window - that did make myself and afriend of mine jump ha ha). Dianna Agron did particularly well in herrole, definitely well executed, stepping outside her well known part as"Quinn Fabray" from Glee. Alex Pettyfer, never fails to please one'seyes! The special effects were extremely good also, although it didfeel that all the action was left towards the end. On that note, Iwould like to add that the ending was actually disappointing andslightly clichéd... |

Mediocre on all counts....except individual performancesTo be fair this movie is better than expected. The screenplay wouldhave done a RomCom proud, but it isn't bad at all. But what lets themovie down is the lack of even a single standout performance. If i hadto pick the best then i would say Timothi Olyphant who shelled out astandard fare. The performance of Ms. Agron is quite pathetic. She reminds me ofKristen Stewart. Both only have a small repertoire of reactions andthey surely don't do justice to their characters or the work done bythe crew. Alex Pettyfer...what i expected, below par. And why is TeresaPalmer talking with a tune?.To sum it off, this is an action flick that you can take yourgirlfriend to. But both may end up regretting going to it. So i give it4 stars, to those who didn't show their face on screen. |

Big DisappointmentIts so slowly moving and loud, seeing the trailers for the past weeksbefore it came out was a huge way to spark up the hype for me intoseeing this movie and what i got in repay was this. The story started off slow, i was confused during its first big bang ofarousing, exciting Special effects and wait oh crap its that damn soundagain, then coming from the guy who made disturbia i was veryembarrassed that he made this movie so boring, Disturbia had me on theedge of my seat through the whole movie, but this! man! it was boring, they only cool part was the action i guess it was descent parts of themovie but in conclusion of this dull movie, i ask Michale Bay has doneit again, tooken over the movie like a disease that doesn't quit.Of coarse Michael Bay, you know me and i know you, You are the lamestexcuse of a producer i've ever met, is action, sound and specialeffects really that important to you? Does story, acting and most important Directing not that important toyou? I don't even know why i payed 11 bucks seeing Michael Bay'sretarded sequel to what i thought could've been the next Jurassic Park.Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen People who know what i'm saying lets face it if you see Michael Baysname in any order of the poster of what ever movie he thinks he shouldbe apart of just skip it, this movie was boring, dull and say i mustagain Way to loud. |

If Chinese Menus could talk, they'd leave out #6...This was a decent teenage science fiction fantasy with enjoyably wackyvillains.'Number Six' was a crap actress, though. She doesn't have any lines inthe first two-thirds of the film; in her only previous appearance, thecamera frames her as she strides away from an explosion whilst a rocksong blares from the soundtrack... This appears to be a mindlessaesthetic decision, until later on she opens her mouth and you suddenlyrealise why they made the right choice in having her say as little aspossible. At the apex of the film, her character's only real functionis to wrap her gums around a few quips; alas, she even manages to ruinthose by demonstrating her complete tin ear for the rhythm of dialogue. Her line readings were horrifically inept. The film as a whole was OK though, if you don't immediately object tothe concept of 'Twilight with aliens in it, instead of vampires'. |

Supprisingly Good!I think some people are being a bit harsh on this film. Sure the plotisn't exactly epic or ground breaking, or even original...but so what? What is these days? I can't remember the last time I've seen a filmwhich hasn't borrowed or has similarities and parallels to another filmor book in some form or other. The plot's pretty basic...people with special powers being hunted downby aliens. I know it sounds like some low budget crap you'd usuallyfind on Syfy channel, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. Theaction and fight scenes were pretty good as far as sci-fi films go, andwhile the special effects may not be on the same par as something likeAvatar, they were decent enough to get the job done without looking toocheap. The creature designs were great too.Acting and dialogue were fine, nothing Oscar-winning but good enough, bearing in mind I didn't know any of the actors with the exception ofTimothy Elephant or whatever the hell his name is.This film is somewhat similar and has certain parallels to 'Push' and'Jumper', so if you enjoyed either of those, then you may want to checkthis one out. If you're looking for something with deep meanings, clever witty subtexts, and elaborate twists, then sorry, this film maynot be for you. If you just want to kick back and watch people withpretty cool powers kick the snot out of aliens, then give this a try.You may be as pleasantly surprised as I was. |

Utter tripeI AM NUMBER FOUR - If you liked transformers II and all the othertweeny teeny mtv type films like Twilight that have no plot or actingworth a damn then you will love I am number four. I don't! It's ahollow film with little to recommend it apart from the huge plot holes(fun to pick them apart).A complete lack of back story to the characters, zero believability tounfolding of events, almost no explanation of what is going on, thecharacters seemingly witnessing incredible events with no reaction whatso ever...the list goes on.It's a shame as it had the potential to be really good. As it is it'sthe kind of film 'z' list and unknown actors cut their teeth on beforemoving into obscurity or something bigger. Having said all that thespecial effects were pretty good (not that hard these days) and thegirls in it are pretty hot.I haven't read the book (as I am older than 13) so...IN SUMMARY ifyou've read the book then you'll watch it, everyone else it's a closeas you can get to a straight-to-DVD without actually being one. |

I liked it.I thought that the movie was really interesting, despite all thereviews that i saw on the specialized cinema magazines... It's thefirst movie so of course that are holes on the plot... for instance iwould prefer to see at first the escape from the home planet and thencontinue the story on earth (i don't know if it is on the book cause ihaven't read it, but i'm going to, definitely)... Pettyfer drifts a biton the beginning but i think he takes the character when Six appears. And speaking of Six, very well casted. Hope that this not becomes oneof those "one time try" movies like Eragon and The Golden Compass. TheCGI and FX complement the movie and don't interfere like it happens onother movies. I'm very curious for the follow-up |

Would have been a pretty crappy movie if wasn't for the final action scenes in near the endNow I would have passed on seeing this in theater because of how crappythe premise and the trailer looked. I am not shocked the people thatworked on "Smallville" made this movie because the trailer looked likea episode of a TV show with people with powers. For it being a 2 or 3episodes on a TV show it would had been alright, but for a movie itfails on so many levels. It really isn't worth the time to kill intheater. It was basically like watching a dull teen drama except withteens that have powers and aliens. The vibe of this movie has"Twilight" all over it, even some of the scenarios has some stuff thatis similar to "Twilight". And I wouldn't be shocked if that was thedirection it was aiming for and for it's target audiences. This isbasically a sci-fi teenage love story, but it's just boring and Ialmost fell asleep watching this. In fact this would have been a prettycrappy movie if it wasn't for the final action scenes in near the end. It's also similar like the "Twilight" movies are with it's cheesy andterrible dialogue.4/10 |

Awesome Movie!!!!!I had read the book before so I knew I was going to love it! I broughtthree other friends, one who also read the book and the other two justliked Alex Pettyfer. We sat down and, right from the beginning, it justhooked me. The special affects were great, the actors were perfect andthe overall tone of the movie was probably the best book-to-movie toneso far. Pettyfer and Arragon's role in this, I though fit the actorsreally well. They seemed like they could actually be John and Sarah! Ican see why this is rated PG-13, though. There is some mild languageand startling scenes. This is a definite "see movie" in my book! Bring your friends, get ajumbo tub of popcorn and watch the action unfold! |

Number four is number two, in a large portion. How old are the guys who wrote this thing, fifteen? Taken from asuccessful book, the writers appear to have stitched this thingtogether with every cliché existent in the genre. EVERYTHING is soooofamiliar. A bastardized cross between Twilight, Superman and amultitude of other heroic stories, I Am Number Four has a bunch oflikable actors and half-decent action sequences that are interminablypunctuated by stultifyingly bad romantic scenes that any TV soap operawould instantly consign to the reject bin. Who wrote this crap? Neitherfish nor fowl, the movie sinks under the uncertainty of just what itwas aiming for. Like they say, too many cooks spoil the broth and it isobvious this movie was written by a committee. Where did the bad guyscome from, some Halloween party in a naughty part of town. (Not a badpart of town because they are just waaaay too laughable to be REALbad.) One really pulls for the actors in this movie but the materialthey are given is insulting in its juvenile approach. Obviously aimedfor an undiscerning teen market, this flick lands with a clunk at thefeet of the impressionable eight year old who hasn't been out in awhile. Great production values at work and some worthwhile actionsequences but who wrote the dialogue? OMG!!!!!! |

Petyfer Pretty, but Four HomelyThis review is from: I Am Number Four (DVD) While there's no doubt that Petyfer is easy on the eyes, the movie on the whole is pretty homely. Not a whole lot going on that isn't a tease for sequels. Not much action either until the last third of the film and then pretty cheesy at that. So, this is just another mediocre entry in the watch this if you haven't got anything better to do and you can rent it for a buck at Redbox category. |

Dull, tired, seen-it-beforeReally, what exactly did I expect? Saw it at Siam Paragon in Bangkok. Iknew it was going to suck, and was I right or what! Here's the lowdown**spoilers**:The basic concept has a whe slew of significant plot holes. A bunch ofalien teenagers live on earth, nine of them, and some other aliens cometo kill them. We're never really told why: why are the alien teenagersbeing killed (in sequence, no less)? why is it necessary to kill themin the first place? why do they act so stupid? Maybe I wasn't payingenough attention. Other than that, it's pretty well-worn territory: akid discovers he has super powers, battles the school bully, falls forthe hottest girl in school, beats the aliens and saves the day. That'sit. That's the entire plot right there. Acting: pretty bad. The main character is a bit if a plank. Of coursethe hottest girl at school falls for him, despite him having thepersonality of a piece of wood. The bully is suitably obnoxious, thebaddies trying to channel KISS and make jokes. It doesn't work all thatwell. SFX: pretty good, but that's to be expected these days. So why does it suck so hard? Well, firstly the plot is dull, dull, dull. The kid is running for his life, three of his alien mates havealready been killed, so he goes to high school? I mean, come on! Notonly that, he doesn't try to hide that he's an alien with a secret toprotect, but mopes around lusting after the hottest girl in school. It's not a bad plot as such, just badly done. Timothy Olyphant must behard up for cash these days. Oh wait, what am I saying? He was inHit-man already. The baddies are just sad and comical (although not actually funny),rather than menacing. And then, you find out that these moron alienkids hadn't actually thought of teaming up to fight the enemy together, despite it being common knowledge that by joining forces they coulddefeat them. Who'd a thunk it?It was never going to be a great movie, but it could have done itbetter. All the ingredients are there, but it's let down by a poorlywritten script. I'm sure it'll do well at the cinema with the 13 yr old crowd. By allmeans go see it. Just don't say you weren't warned. 2 out of 10 (andone of those stars is because I was hiding out in an air-conditionedcinema in sweltering Bangkok). |
