Iron Man 2

This review is from: Iron Man 2 (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I saw Iron Man 2 in the movie theatre, but loved it enough to own it. I am so happy that I purchased this film, it's wonderful watching it on my big screen TV.

RDJ dons the suit for a successful second go-round.

"You wanna be a war machine? Take your best shot!"The second movie in superhero franchises often is fantastic. X-Men 2,Spider-Man 2, Batman Returns, and The Dark Knight all managed toimprove over their pretty solid predecessors. While Iron Man 2 can'tquite join those movies by improving over the excellent Iron Man, it'sstill an enjoyable movie in it's own right. It may not be quite as consistently entertaining as the first movie, but Iron Man 2 boasts increased star power with the inclusion ofCheadle, Johansson, Rourke, and Rockwell, as well as even more specialeffects wizardry than its predecessor. The increased focus on theexpanded cast  and even more elaborate action scenes comes at theexpense of some of the humor and perfect story flow that made the firstmovie so darn great, but Iron Man fans won't be very disappointed withthis new movie, I can guarantee you. Iron Man 2 is flashy, fun, andanother fine comic book movie.

Better than Part One !!!

I hated Iron Man I. Really, I hated it. I was disappointed with theplot, shallow characterization, wrong translation of Hindi etc. Andafter last year's piece of crap that was Transformers 2, I didn'texpect this sequel to deliver because the trailers, the teasers or theplot didn't convince me. So, I go in the empty theater and seat myselfin the second row. In twenty minutes, I've finished my popcorn and thecrowd finally shows up. The theater's full. The movie starts rollingand Iron Man enters the scene and warmly greets the audience by a "It'sgood to be back" remark. The rest of it is pure awesomeness. Well, I'llsummarize the whole experience in two sections for ur convenience:The Good : 1. Acting. The cast fits. RDJ is exceptional as Iron Man,Scarlett Johanson is perfect as Black Widow and Mickey Rourke excels asthe formidable Ivan Vanko. 2. The story. Good story, very involving. 3.The action, obviously. 4. The special effects were awesome. 5. Thehumor. The humor was veryveryvery good. My stomach almost burst openduring the last scene, which was Hilariously surprising. The bad: 1. Some actors don't fit their characters. I couldn't digestDon Cheadle as Rhodes after Terrence Howard's amazing performance asthe same character in part one. Also, Samuel L. Jackson (whoseappearance in this movie was a little more than a cameo) sounds morelike Jules from Pulp Fiction than Nick Fury. 2. The last fight scene. You'll know why the last fight scene stinks, after you see the movie.3. Bad character exploration. The appearance of characters like HappyHogan, Black Widow and Nick Fury feel like a little more than cameos. All in all, a great movie. Best summer move yet and a must watch andmust by on Blu Ray or DVD (whichever you prefer). Word to Marvel fans, specifically fans of a certain thunder god (likeme), wait for the post credits scene!!!!4/5

An exhilarating and funny superhero sequel.

Iron Man 2 is a fine sequel. Almost the whole cast returns intact, anddirector Jon Favreau has more screen time in his role as Happy Hogan.Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is riding high after the events of IronMan (2008). He has become famous worldwide, and he re-institutes theStark Expo. But problems begin to pile up. Another wealthyindustrialist wants his Iron Man technology. Then a new villainappears. Stark's relationship with his assistant Virginia Potts(Gwyneth Paltrow) is also expanded upon. There's a lot going on in thefilm, but its rather weak script hurts it for sure. Mickey Rourke asthe villain Ivan Vanko stands out. He's more menacing than ObadiahStane was in the first film. Vanko's first encounter with Stark leadsto a thrilling fight scene. Unfortunately Rourke's character isn'tfully developed. This is a problem with other characters in the film aswell. Vanko is a memorable villain but if Rourke was given more screentime and his character had more of a backstory I'm sure he could havebeen even more memorable. Still, Rourke tried to make his character ascomplex as he could. The film's special effects are excellent. Some of the time, however, they're used on shootouts and explosions that don't produce muchexcitement. There's a lot more humour this time around. I was smilingor laughing during most of the film. Scarlett Johansson as thebeautiful Natasha Romanoff gets to show off some impressive martialarts moves. It's rather funny afterwards because no one else can fightlike her. Overall, the film is not as good as Iron Man. Still, it's anentertaining summer blockbuster and the performances are solid. Iwasn't expecting much from the film but was pleasantly surprised. Irecommend Iron Man 2.

A little slow...

This review is from: Iron Man 2 (Amazon Instant Video) It was ok, but I expected a lot more from it just based on the first Iron Man that came out in the movies not long ago. This one was very slow up until a little more than half way through the movie, and then it became a little more exciting, but in small spurts, and overall was still a little slow.

(2012-04-21 09:18:22)

what a wreck

Oh man, where do I begin? I wasn't even sure this was an Iron Man movie, because the suit seems to be on screen for a total of about fifteen minutes. Downey Jr. went way over the top with his performance. I couldn't help but think that what he said with every twenty words could have been said with two. He's at his best in small doses. And Sam Rockwell? Lord, his performance reeked. I wondered when he would ever shut his pie-hole. He had diarrhea of the lips. He talked a lot, but didn't say a damned thing. This movie reminded me of the Batman movie with George Clooney and Schwarzenegger. A seemingly great cast, occasional cool action, but crappy acting and a juvenile storyline. It felt and sounded like all the actors got their scripts about five minutes before filming. This movie could have been so great, but Favreau totally misfired on this one. Total garbage that's not worth watching again. It's already time for a reboot.

Fun movie, irksome at times.

This review is from: Iron Man 2 (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) Ever since I got the playstation 3 I have not bought a DVD if I could help it. Why collect the old format if a new one is available. Of course Blu-Ray does not always live up to expectations. The presentation of Iron Man 2 is good, and the package has all your could ask for: Deleted Scenes, extra content, background info on the characters, and the movie looks and sounds great. The set also features a DVD copy for use when a Blu-Ray is not available. As for the movie, it's good but it's not great. I am a fan of superheroes, especially Marvel's characters. I'm not sure these movies are doing them justice. For examlee there's an annoying habit they have of taking the characters out of costume. Iron Man, needs to have his armor on to be Iron Man. If he is in armor he should not be constatnly opening his visor. The action is good but there is not as much as one would hope. And must all Superhero movies include an origin of some sort (the villian Whiplash in this case)? On the plus side the actors do a great job. Sometimes Tony Stark is a bit too smarmy to be likeable but that's the scripts fault. The actors are good and they do a great job of humanizing their characters, which is the most importatnt part in movie of this type: we have to empathize with the people to believe anything that is going on.I liked it. But I didn't love it.

(2012-04-19 00:23:18)

Big letdown.

I can't add anything that hasn't been already stated. The scene where the Ironman suit gets stolen by somebody who has never stepped inside of one before made me cringe. The scenario is so typical now...sequels to blockbuster's are just half-assed thrown together because they know theye are gonna make money regardless. At least it was only wasted NF rental for me.

No offence to people who like the comic, but to me it was a disappointment

I have seen the first Iron Man and rather enjoyed it. I did hear theymade this one and saw the trailer. I must say, trailers are verydeceiving. The story started off OK, but then we saw the main villain (Roark, whodidn't have much dialogue through out the movie). We sort of knew whyhe was being the villain, but we didn't know anything else about him.The action scenes just ended way too quickly and the rest of the filmseemed it was just about Stark acting like an arrogant prat, which Ithought got very slow. The acting performances were pretty good, but Scarlett Johansenperformance just kept saying to me "look how beautiful I am". But therest of the cast did well. There is also this big commotion about the ACDC soundtrack released, Ionly counted 1 or 2 songs played in the film, that was it. They didn'teven play Black Sabbath's Iron Man at all, which I thought was annoyingbecause it's a great song. All in all, it was average and nowhere near as good as the first movie.I did hear people liked this because of the comic, so to the people wholiked it, I'm sorry if being a bit too strong.

(2012-04-16 05:13:52)

Another big, dumb, noisy spectacle

I really liked the first Iron Man; I thought it was fresh, fun, and exciting. And while I've seen enough sequels to know better than to expect too much, I was hoping for something that at least kept the tone of the first. Wrong. This is just another B-movie plot with a $200 million budget, so we get wafer-thin characters and no logic, but enough noise, explosions, and gunfire to pummel us into not noticing. (And that is a problem with movies based on comic books; even at their best, they're still comic-book stories.)So, what is it about? Not that it matters much, but...Tony Stark is back; the government wants his technology; he won't give it up; another defense company tries to get it; Mickey Rourke gets sobered up enough to growl a few lines; robots fire rockets; lots of stuff blows up; etc. etc. You get the idea...but don't worry, no innocent bystanders get hurt. (Note to self: remember to take aspirin before entering movie theater.)What's really missing is a sense of fun; like a lot of other recent films, it's just a lot of yammering and hammering, and nobody is having a good time at all--certainly not the audience. In the great movie swarm of 2010, the real casualty is joy.I was going to write that the portrayal of a rival defense contractor as a corrupt moron was unnecessarily, almost insultingly one-dimensional (I have worked with some very high-level defense contractors, none of whom were this stupid), but that comment extends to a lot of other characters, too. Like I said, a B-movie plot...and B-movie writing. One note--I have never seen a movie with as many product placements as this movie has. Even the introduction of other Marvel characters seemed more like product placement than plot development. Too much of this movie seemed like a commercial for other stuff. Consider yourself warned.

Performances somehow transcend the massive FX

I'd give Shellhead2 four stars, mainly on the strength of theperformances, which transcend the odds by holding their own against theutterly massive layers of visual FX.Mickey Rourke follows up his Award-driven Wrestler role with anattention to detail that went as far as choosing the designs for hisfull-body prison tattoos and even creating a hitherto unscripted filmrole for an avian Cockatoo sidekick (which itself steals a scene orthree).Downey as Iron Man inventor Tony Stark refuses to be sunk by hischaracter's many, many flaws, essaying his performance with an air of"My work will redeem my lousy personality" that recalls his virtuosoperformance in his earlier Charlie Chaplin bio flick. Cheadle handleshis reluctant/replacement hero role with aplomb, appropriating one ofthe Iron Man suits in the name of some "greater good," which of courseproves to instead be an even greater evil (operating within themachinations of the military industrial War Machine). The unfortunately-named Pepper Potts, as played by Gwyneth Paltrow, holds her own against Downey as her boss-slash-love interest, matchingand even usurping his boxing-style banter in all their scenes together.Samuel L. Jackson is clearly just warming up his role as formersoldier-turned-super-spy Nick Fury, agent of SHIELD, a character surelydestined to appear in virtually all the future Marvel Comics filmsbeing set up in Iron Man 2 (news footage from the Hulk movie appears onone of Tony Stark's lab monitors, a busted Captain America shield isused as a construction prop, the mysterious appearance of Thor's hammertakes one character offscreen until the final post-credits roll, a mapin the SHIELD office indicates the Black Panther's activities beingtracked in Africa….).And Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow rocks that leather jumpsuit (herstunts being done mostly on wires, rather than CGI generated asinsinuated by Mr. Shepherd, tho a stunt double does indeed handle a fewseconds of the more ambidextrous maneuvers).

(2012-04-07 02:24:50)

Inferior sequel. Sigh.

The original Iron Man was a very good film that didn't necessarily have the weight of a Dark Knight, but was still a good movie in it's own right. It was just plain fun. The acting across the board was very good and Faverou's direction was good as well. Iron man 2 on the other hand suffers from the same problem as many superhero sequels have over the years, too many characters. The film seems to lack focus. Several characters pop in and out of the film without much development. Don Cheadle as well as Mickey Rourke's characters were given little to do. The Iron Man and War Machine fight was so poorly conceived that it just felt forced and contrived just get another fight scene into the film. The editing of the film just seemed off as well. Scenes that should have been cut just went on and on. In several scenes, it seemed to me like the actors were just improvising their dialogue. It's almost as if Faverou was a little too hand's off with his direction. The story just seemed to amount to little more than a precursor to the eventual Avengers film. The few action scenes in the movie were well done but the rest of the film just didn't measure up. Essentially, Iron Man 2 was a decent film, but it just felt a little hollow to me.

Oh My God! TURN IT OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do they make these films! 7.4? Really? This movie was so boring! There was about 5 minutes of action - if you can call it that in this 2hour punishment. I knew it was going to bad, but I didn't think itwould be a crime against nature! I have never liked iron man, I alwaysthought of him as a cheap imitation of Batman, but I always give thesetypes of films a go. After seeing the crazy swishy neon arms of the badguy, I thought this looks good, but boy was I wrong! It was pointlessand plot less! Who made this? I hope it was someone who has an illnessthat can be said as an abbreviation! The best part about this film isthe very first fight scene, and then there is a long plot lessdialogue. No more action till the last 10 minutes where the drones aresliced apart like butter within seconds by a new and rejuvenated IronMan! I couldn't make out anything, it was zip of flash here, anexplosion there and a courteous computer monitor informing me the dronewas dead. The whole part when Stark finds a new element. What in god's name wasthat all about? Did it make any sense to anyone? Do geeks get wet whenthey hear words like separate the neutrons and atoms? Then what reallytopped off the torture was seeing the big bad guy being killed withminutes of his arrival when it took the man almost 2 hours tostrengthen himself. Really? Is this what passes for entertainment? Whata waste of money, time and effort. Avoid this forever ...

While it slips for the original premise Iron Man 2 still flies solid!

I think I could find a lot wrong with Iron Man 2. The first film reallysurprised me as being an amazing super hero origins film and I knewthat a second movie or any future instalments would likely fall short. But for everything I could say I didn't like about Iron Man 2 I alsothink they did a pretty decent job for a high flying summer actionflick. There is plenty of new and original ideas and perhaps the onlyglaring issue is that they take the amazing performance by a greatactor and over do it a little bit making the hero of the story seemweaker in some ways but then that is also the basic premise of thissequel. Certainly every great hero needs a great villain and thevillain they bring to the big screen for the sequel is quite simplyamazing. I had low expectations of who they might put up against IronMan for the sequel but I was truly blown away. Despite replacing a maincharacter in the story they still managed to carry on terrificchemistry with the cast. Even though some of the characters are alittle overblown this time around and the story doesn't have quite thesame strength the action and special effects do bring it altogethernicely.Robert Downey Jr. takes his iconic role as philanthropist Tony Starkand Iron Man to new heights and goes through some real emotionalmoments. The problem is his breakdown in the film is overdone. Youalmost feel annoyed with his over the top antics to the point where heseems childish. He is still Tony Stark though and no one else couldlead the character the way he does. Gwyneth Paltrow returns as PepperPotts in a more significant role this time around. She was terrific inthe first film and is still great this time around. She is thegrounding force to Downey's Stark and they still have great chemistrydespite the story arc putting a wedge between them. This is a strongcharacter for Paltrow. Don Cheadle takes the role of Stark's closestfriend from Terrence Howard. I don't think the character was very wellexplored in the first film but they certainly give Cheadle more to workwith and of course his own Super Hero persona as War Machine. WarMachine is cool but is he entirely necessary...not in my opinionalthough that being said some of the great scenes in the film arefeaturing Cheadle as War Machine. Him and Downey also have greatchemistry. Also new to the cast is Scarlett Johansson in a mostlyintroductory role to the future Avengers cast. She doesn't get muchmore than other than to allow Downey's Stark to hit on her mercilesslyhowever she does get one incredible action scene where she stuns andamazes as she kicks her way through a group of baddies. I'm not quiteaboard this Mickey Rourke craze train but I must say he is an awesomebad guy in the form of Ivan Vanko. They don't give him a lot of actuallines in the film (which is a bonus) and he looks awesome and kickssome serious ass. He is an awesome head villain for the film. Samuel L.Jackson and Sam Rockwell round out a supporting cast in good solidroles. While I don't believe the story is quite as good as the first theaction is full throttle. There is some truly some great scenes thatwill put you on the edge of your seat. Jon Favreau is quickly becominga force to be reckoned with in the directors chair. Iron Man isprobably his best project to date. The cast and the over the topcharacters make this a high flying adventure. Certainly the first filmwas downright amazing and to follow it up with a solid entertainingsecond film is worth it. As much as I love a good sequel I think itwould be smart to end the Iron Man saga here in favour of The Avengerswhich I hope they will do a good job with. 8/10

Made for TV

Die alogue.Basically, I feel this would have made a great TV mini series. But,this doesn't have enough balls to be made into a feature length film. Not that there are many these days, ballsy films, that is.Lots of silly made for TV humor. Hee hees and ha has. No action. None.Encounters, yes. Cute battle scenes with bad costumes, yes. Action, nota morsel.Nothing is sincere. It seems as though this movie's only worth is toperpetuate a chattering, ill-humored, egotiscal television audience....You have to give me SOMETHING to hold on to besides cool computers. This series will draw out like a knife, dull and rusted humor, no realedge.Rent it to sleep

Iron Man 2 hits all the sweet spots, and it is GODLY.

When I first heard that Iron Man was being made into a movie, I didn'tcare much, but I still wanted to see it because of the action. I alsochose to see it because Robert Downey Jr. was playing the role of IronMan/Tony Stark. I've been a fan of Rob since Chaplin, that was truly amasterpiece, he can work the English accent perfectly. I always thoughthe was English because the first movie I saw with him was Natural BornKillers, but he was obviously Australian in that.Anyways, I finished watching the movie and I was blown away by thesheer awesomeness of it. So, I chose to go back on my comic book hobbythat I used to have 8 years ago. I first picked up on the World's MostWanted storyline that is part of the Dark Reign event. I was hooked, soI decided that Iron Man is my new favourite Marvel hero, next to Blade, they're on the same level of epic. I read a famous story arc called"Extremis". I LOVED IT! I loved the dark tone to it, the virus createdby Pharmlabs in Austin, Texas somehow slipped into some criminal'shands and he went haywire. Iron Man saved the day by taking the samedose of Extremis, he and the suit TRULY BECAME ONE, just like he saysat the Senate conference in this movie. I won't say much because you'lllove reading it, and it's really fun acting out the captions.Anyways, the next storyline I'm reading is Civil War, it's interestingto see his position in all of it. I still have 74 issues to go. Mypoint is, if you're an Iron Man fan like me, and if you read the comics(which REALLY helped) then you will consider this the best movie inmove-making history. I certainly do, we will see how the Avengers cantop this, but I know Iron Man 3 will top Iron Man 2.Now, onto the movie. The intro starts off really well, with recordingsfrom the ending of the first film where he announces that he is indeedIron Man. It then cuts to Moscow, Russia where we get to see Whiplash'scharacter intro. Truly sad to see the hand dealt to his father, Anton, apparently his father worked with Howard Stark, Tony Stark's father, and somewhere along the line, Howard took Anton's ideas and kicked himto the curb, in the Russian ghetto. Whiplash swore revenge on this, andlet me just say the way the Monaco scene was setup was just AMAZING.On top of the movie being awesome, it even added humour to it, justlike in the last one. Happy Hogan gets more screen time and lines. Weget to see more of Nick Fury and the sexy, and seductive, Black Widowjust to put the cherry on top. Justin Hammer, rival competitor to TonyStark and Stark Industries wants to conquer over Stark Industries withH.A.M.M.E.R. advanced weapons systems. But he knows that he can neverget the praise and approval of the public like Tony gets. It triggershis ego to go haywire, he truly needs Tony to succeed with his company.Moving on to the plot which is very well done and fantastic. This is aMarvel fan's wet dream come true. It combines the story lines of ArmorWars and Demon in a Bottle. Tony Stark's arc reactor is keeping himalive and killing him now, at the same time. He needs to come up with asolution and a new suit, which he does later in the course of the plot. This film is truly a masterpiece directed by none other than theprestigious Jon Favreau. Him and Robert are the DREAM TEAM as I like tocall it.The audience was cheering was laughter, enjoyment and praise. They gaveit a standing ovation after the movie was over, a theatre full of joy.I must admit, I really do envy Robert Downey Jr. for the kind of man heis. He has been dealt with the hand of jail and he has had his ownlittle demon in a bottle experience, but the got back up on top, alongwith Mickey Rourke and has been given a second chance, and he took it.The acting was superb by all the cast members. The special effects andaction had fans like myself drooling for more of it, just to appreciatethe sheer beauty of it. I can guarantee you that this movie will make ALOT of money, maybe even over 1 billion and I hope it does because ofthe incredible hype it has received and well deserved too.The movie has a special Captain America easter egg and a secret endingafter the credits. So stay in your seats. The music was very well doneand in the right moments.Iron Man 2 gets my envy and full respect. This is truly the movie ofthe year, and possibly the decade until Iron Man 3 can top it off.People asked has the Dark Knight set standards too high for comic bookmovies? I'd say it didn't set them high enough, Iron Man 2 SURPASSESTDK in every way possible. This movie is godly. Rob and Jon are thedream team, never forget that people and Hollywood. They are the futureof the movie industry. LONG LIVE IRON MAN!P.S. Oh and as of this year from May 6th to May 10th, you should allcelebrate IRON MAN DAYS. On those four days, celebrate the greatachievement Stan Lee and Jack Kirby has created.

My IQ dropped after watching this!!!!

I can't believe I actually paid money to watch this horrible thing!!The movie has nothing to see, no plot, no character development and norealism at all!! (SPOILERS) The movie is basically about a super awesome guy with a tinarmor, who is a very wealthy, very sexy, very cool, can hack anycomputer in seconds, brought world peace with his "tin" armor. Thestory continues when you see that he is also a genius scientist whodiscovered or created a new element in about 15 minutes!!It gets better when you see the all bad a** guy/scientist also whodrinks vodka all day and loves his parrot!! a scientist whose body isall covered by tattoos and looks like a thug.Bottom line, if you want to waste your time, at least waste it moredecently, there are a lot of retarded movies way better and realisticthan this one. It makes me sad that these kind of movies are funded andproduced in Hollywood.

Possibly Better than Original!

I went in the theaters with an open mind ready to expect the best andthat is what I got. Iron Man 2 is just as good maybe even better thanthe first one. Robert Downey Jr is superb as Tony Stark once again. Ialso loved the performance by Mickey Rourke as Whiplash. I didn'texpect much out of him. And of course we all know why ScarlettJohansson is here. This movie takes place right after Stark becomes public. He has to dealwith the government who wants to take his suit and Whiplash who wantsto kill him because of his father, Howard.I loved everything here. I enjoyed the action, the chicks, the cars, the special effects, and much more. The only thing I really hated wasthat Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard. I love Cheadle's acting butHoward was perfect in the first one.Overall, this is a fantastic sequel. I hope they make Iron man 3 and Ican't wait until the Avengers in two years. I rate this film 10/10.

(2012-03-29 01:44:00)

Not bad for a sequel, not better than first.

I was a huge fan of the first Iron Man movie, and could not wait for the sequel. Having rented Iron Man 2 at Amazon VOD, I was surprised at how little action there was, when compared to the first movie. The majority of the action takes place in the last quarter of the movie. Now don't misunderstand me, this was a good movie and a good sequel, but I don't feel that it was better than the original. Some of the side stories were interesting, but this movie felt more like a setup for the Avengers movie. Scarlett Johansson was pretty good as The Black Widow, and Don Cheadle was a suitable replacement for Terrence Howard, though I would have preferred that Favreau swallowed his pride and kept the original cast in place for the sequel. Unfortunately Mickey Rourke didn't receive enough screen time in my opinion. All in all the movie was a 3.5-4.0, compared to my 5 star rating for Iron Man. It was a good movie, but Favreau could have done better.

(2012-03-28 14:24:44)

Good movie....would have preferred Terrence Howard

Overall an excellent movie. Despite the common complaint about thecomplex plot to set up the up coming Avengers, I find the story tellingtight and focused. It's far better than Spiderman III (how sad was thatmovie).I would just make one change: keep Terrence Howard instead of DonCheadle. Let's face it, as dynamic as Tony Stark is, would his bestfriend be a straight faced Cheadle or slightly laid backed Terrence? Irest my case.Cheers!Keep up with the moving watching, we all need to help the economy :)
