Very enjoyable for me and my 9 and 6yo daughters!

I thought it was clever to have Hunter Van Pelt be played by the same guy who played his dad, seeing as how there was that same fear/disdain dynamic (until the end, where the walls between the two broke down)

So you'll help us?

Robin Williams is incredible as Alan in this outstanding adventuremovie. The supporting cast is phenomenal. The costumes are conservative. One ofthegood films in the genre, Jumanji will dare the viewer to play the game. 7out of 10.

Not for those who have spent more time watching Star Wars than at the library.

The hauntingly beautiful illustrations of the children's book are animatedin this unique adventure for the entire family. Artistic at each turn thismovie is probably not meant for those who have spent more time watching StarWars than at thelibrary. At least one reviewer could not understand why the computer imageswere not as "realistic" as in other computer generated animated films. Thatwould be like asking why Roger Rabbit does not look like a real rabbit. They are not supposed to be real. The characters of Jumanji have literallypopped out of the children's illustrations full of life and imagination.Similar to Roger Rabbit it meshes two different worlds together. Have fun.Read the book. Watch the movie. Play the game.

Jumanji is one of my favorite movies

This review is from: Jumanji (Collector's Series) (DVD) I've always enjoyed fantasy movies, especially those that involve some type of self-redemption or a chance to live something over and correct past mistakes. While not everyone sees Jumanji in this light, it is just one of the many aspects of the movie that prompted me to buy it. I like Robin Williams because he is not so "over the top" like he usually is. Kirsten Dunst is one of my favorite actresses and this was the first time I had seen her. And I love the relationship between the young Alan and his father. All in all, great escapist fun!

One of Robin Williams' worst movies.

I'd say this is one of Williams' worst movies. He's not funny at all here, although the movie does have some mild humor here and there. Unlike his other movies, there is really no moral to story, meaning that the plot is ultimately pointless. The movie begins in the 1860's when two kids bury some locked chest. Then, a boy discovers it on a construction site and pulls it out, discovering a board game inside called Jumanji. He gets a girl to play with him and he is sucked into the board, reappearing like 20 years later, saying and looking like he had been living in a jungle most of his life. Unfortunately, with him also came undesirable things from Jumanji, such as monkeys taking over the town, stampeding elephants, disease, spiders the size of basketballs, and the like. To end it all, they must finish the game, which means it's going to get worse before it gets better. They end up finishing it alive (barely) and then they are back in time as kids right before he got sucked into the board. So the two keep the secret to themselves since no one is aware anything happened and they'd never believe them anyway. They also get married. Awww, how cute. So they rid themselves of the damned game of course but stupidly just set it in a creek to float away, instead of burning it (duh!). So then in Japan or somewhere on the beach, two kids hear the African drumming coming out of the board ahead and they rush towards it in curiosity and delight at their finding. Oh boy! Maybe this means there will be sequel! Then, we can learn where this game came from and how and why it does what it does.

Jumanji Collector's Series (MISLEADING)

This review is from: Jumanji (Collector's Series) (DVD) The DVD itself is of course fine because its a great movie. HOWEVER, the information that AMAZON gives you for the purchase is misleading. The words "Collector's" and especially the word "series" suggest one or more of something - that's what series means. HOWEVER, what I got was 2 of the very same DVD. THIS IS FALSE AND/OR MISLEADING ADVERTISING AMAZON - SHAME ON YOU. I certainly did not want nor do I need 2 DVDs of the very same movie. And I certainly wasn't expecting that I was paying for 2 of the very same DVD's.So again, shame on you AMAZON.

Parrish House's Plans

Hi there!I would really appreciate if you can help me with this. I really lovethat movie, cause of the old Parrish House. I am planning to build myown house by the end of this year and the model that I have in mind isJumanji's Parrish House. Of course, watching the movie any architectcould design the exterior facade, but it has been really hard to findthe floor pans. Does anyone have idea of a web page or any source whereI could find the floor plans? In advance I thank you for your help.Kind regards,Ralph

Wonderful adventure

My opinion: Do not underrate this movie that much. I didn'tparticularly like it - in fact I almost forgot about it for many years- but the story is simply very, very smart. The idea behind the plot isutter genius. Okay, the actual transformation did not work perfectly, but I insist that it was still a straight accomplishment that had 1. anice cast, 2. sustainable visual effects and achievements, 3. a greatstory, 4. both funny and entertaining sequences, that even made youpause and think sometimes, which I regard as a major attainment of anymovie. So - I'll give it a solid 7, which it deserves at least.

Mom in Denver

This review is from: Jumanji (Collector's Series) (DVD) The DVD came in very good shape. There were no scratches or nicks the case cover was in very good shape. I had no problems watching the movie. If you like to watch movies then I recommend Amazon. It is the best place to find good deals on movies!!!

Just fun

This movie has a great idea. And it's fun! Although it's rediculous, but I saw it 2 times. My complaint is that the trials seem to be more and more trite and unexciting. I love the first some surprises, such us bat, bug, and eat-flowers. But the tramples of the elephants, the shooter, the flood seems to be predictable. BTW, The ending of this movie is so bad, I dislike it so! A cliche!

Jumanji DVD Combo

This review is from: Jumanji (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) Jumanji is a great movie for all ages. The DVD Combo pack is an exceptional value. Especially for those of us who do not have a Blue Ray player yet. Keep up the good work Amazon.

Jumanji Excitement

Based on the children's book by Chris Van Allsburg, Jumanji stars Robin Williams as a man who escapes his confinement within a devilish board game, only to be followed by all kinds of exotic problems: elephants, lions, zebras, monkeys, floods, giant insects, killer plants, and a big-game hunter. The computer-generated effects all wreak havoc through quiet streets, and while most of this is pretty fun, relationship conflicts and character development are weak and forgettable. The high point, in comic terms, is probably David Alan Grier's hilarious performance as a cop catching the worst of these various plagues--one at a time.

Incredible !

I love this movie ! Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Bebe Neuwirth andthe animal special effects are incredible. My only complaint is that noattempt was to explain the strange origins of the game as possibly agame that is cursed or an artifact left in our world by the Africangods. There are several other plot points that are never answered: whykeep returning to the house, and if they know the game is dangerous, why lose it with the pieces included so someone else can play it. Ithink I'd be leaving the dice and pieces as far away from each other aspossible. The whole time-traveling/ renewed time line effect is a minorproblem in the plot as is why that hunter wants to kill Daniel(Robin)in the first place. The computerized animal effects are made to actlike real animals both charming and mischievous and sinister. The slowdegradation of the Parrish house into a jungle and gradually the wholetown is a remarkable effect, quite possibly the most elaborate for anymovie.

Robin Williams At His Best

Just about every film you will ever watch (with a few acceptions) will have been influenced by another film, and may seem very similar to that film in more ways than one. However, Jumanji is a complete acception to this rule. It is a completely original and fantstic idea for a film, which has become unsuprisingly succesful. When Alan Parish finds an old game in a building site and begins playing it with Sarah, a girl on his street, he dissappears and she is chased out of the house by a swarm of bats. Twenty Six years later, Judy and Peter find it in the attic of there new house, (the old Parish house) and they also begin to play. They release Alan, along with a hoard of unimaginable nightmares, their only hope being to finish the game, if they live that long! The special effects in this movie, in there day were excelent, however they do look a little bit dated now, especially the lion. It still works well though. The acting is also pretty ok, especially from Robin Williams, who in my mind is on top form here.Although this film was promoted as a family movie, some parts are pretty intense and scary, especially the beginning where the previous two children are burying the game. Therefore you may want to watch it before you show it to very young children. Having said this, it really is an excelent film and most of the family can enjoy the solid entertainment. If you buy this film then i guarentee that you will be gripping your seat, and will be thinking of nothing else until the end. Well worth buying.

Fun but dark

The first time I saw this (on cable), I was very surprised. From all the commercials promoting the film, I thought it was for children. Possibly that's why it didn't do as well in the theaters as it could have done--once parents spread the word, it was hard to find an audience. This is NOT for children. It's too dark a story line and I was a bit creeped out by the spiders scene. Now, that said, I did enjoy the film but ... it was missing something but they couldn't put their finger on it.

In the Jungle You Must Wait, Until the Dices Add 5 or 8

This film is about two children playing a mysterious board game thatwas left by the previous owner of the house they're living in now. Theyplay it and the game begins. A man comes out from the game afterstaying there for a decade. They figure out the game is dangerous andthink it would all go away if they just finish it. During the coarse ofthe game, there is peril everywhere! This is a good movie, not betterthan Zathura, but it's still good. I have to warn some parents outthere because if you're taking your kids to see this movie, it mightscare them. Might. Although it didn't scare me because I'm 14.Characters get hurt. Some even die. There are funny moments and sweetmoments. This is a good film that anyone could enjoy. Probably not yourlittle children.

A very entertaining film

This review is from: Jumanji (Collector's Series) (DVD) This film does all you would want it to do. That is; entertain you.I'm not going to outline the movie for you, many of the others have done that already. But, I will say you won't be sorry you got this movie, good effects, interesting concept, another good dramatic appearance by Robin Williams.

Pretty cute, zany adventure.

Let me start this by saying that Robin Was the main draw to this work, although the story is pretty innovative, only having been done a timeor two previously.Zany. That's the principal description of this work, between Williams'snear-manic performance and the fast-paced action, the busy screenplay, and the frantic sound effects. It was fun and entertaining, if nothingelse.Features some monsters and over-sized creatures, so may not be suitablefor all ages.It rates a 5.4/10 from...the Fiend :.
