One of the best movies of the Year!!!

This review is from: Kites [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) First of all, let me say the Story is nothing outstanding, but what really makes this movie an amazing ride is the execution and the acting. The lead actos, Hrithik Roshan (Bollywood Superstar) and Barbara Mori (Mexican Superstar) do an Amazing job acting in this movie. They are both very good looking, and their acting is flaw less. Barbara Mori's acting is truly outstanding, and she stands out for sure. I am very surprised Hollywood hasn't picked up on her yet!! Bollywood Director Anurag Basu does a masterful job keeping us laughing, crying, enjoying the movie with his twist and turns. This is truly a movie where Hollywood meets Bollywood, and the result is an out and out entertainer. If you are reading this, and trying to decide if you want to watch this or not, watch the movie, you won't regret it. I also really enjoyed the scene where the two kidnap an innocent man and his take him for a ride. That actor did a very good job in such a short span, he made me laugh out loud!! His acting with the two superstars was outstanding, and definitely one of the highlights of the movie. Very funny scene!!!In my opinion, a must watch movie that will Entertain you for sure!!!

This Saucer Doesn't Catch The Spill

You do not have to be a psychotic student of rocket science to deducethat Kites is all set to bomb. In fact, it bombed the day its postersreleased. Oh really, I mean that! Take a look at them: You see HrithikRoshan walking in the desert like a thakela* aadmi**, you see Barbara -well, not in the mori*** - but against the sky looking nowhere inparticular. And yes, you see one big dazzling spot of light behindHritik and that's supposed to be the thirsty Mexican Sun. That description sounds boring no? But then that's what the productionis: Spectacularly boring. To make matters even clearer, the trailersturned up - complete with Barbara semi-naked in the Mexican desert,trying hard to cover her naked ignorance of facial expressions andHrithik Roshan showing off an accent and - of course - his dancingskills. Evidently, that fellow just can not believe his luck that he isborn Indian. He's been peddling himself off as some Greek guy from theMediterranean region with so much aggression, I have a hard timebelieving his luck is so damn rotten. Anyway, the trailers came and went and all they did was cause men toslip on the drool that flowed out of their mouths; courtesy Moriji. Theaction scenes looked so blah, Bond's martini must have hardly beenshaken, forget stirred. But even then no one in the production teambothered to sit up and do some damage control. "Well," they said to themselves, "We have the Roshans, we have thenaked babe, we have so much money, we have two versions of the movie -one for the dumb and one for the dumber - it's a recipe that will makemillions!" Sigh! Indians! Reliance! And their stupid ways of making movies! Theynever never learn. I'll be surprised if Kites even recovers productioncosts. The manner in which they have splashed money and prints all overUSA, it's as if someone in the US branch of marketing knows what acolossal mess this is and is trying hard to get some, if not all, inthat country to watch this Indo-Mexican cockatoo of a tail. As for India, the verdict is in. Yes, Hrithik can dance - no denyingthat. Yes, Barbara Mori is Playboy material - no denying that either.And yes, Anurag Basu has used all the tricks in his book to make asadela**** thakela 18th century plot look appealing. But no, we haveseen it all (Yawn!), seen better (Yawn Yawn!), and yes! We aren't thatdumb to not fall asleep!*thakela = sad, tired (Hindi); **aadmi = man (Hindi); ***mori =bathroom (Marathi); ****sadela = rotten (Hindi)

Desperado for Hrithik

Let me tell you that desperado is that movie which brings AntonioBanderas to Hollywood. Similary kites is that kind of movie that willbring Hrithik to Hollywood. Different people have different views onthis movie. According to me, this movie is completely different movieand having no comparison with any other Bollywood movie. I cant comparethis with 3 idiots as that topic was different and this one isdifferent. The best part of the movie is none other than Hrithik solidacting and dance. Story is not new, but its style and Direction makesit excellent. This is the only movie of Indian History goes to BoxOffice Top 10. And this earn the most revenue on 1st weekend. I justwant to say just go to see this movie one's and you will know why thismovie is best. Now after watching Kites in Hindi, next week I amplanning to go Kites remix.I will rate this movie 9/10 as I believe the ending is disappointingfor Indian Audience.

Kites tried hard to fly with banality!!!

A bit of miss from Roshans this time. I tried my best to believeJay(Hritik Roshan) is die-hard love with Natasha (Barbara Mori) forwhich he turned against whole world. But alas, there is no iota ofpassion I could find in their on-screen chemistry. Although, bothHritik and Barbara looks good individually.Bob (Kabir Bedi) giveswarning to Jay on the first meeting that he can't see his daughter Gina(Kangana Raut) unhappy. And vanishes from the screen in whole of secondhalf when Hritik run away with Natasha. Gina's hot tempered brother andNatasha's fiancГѓВ©, Tony (Nicolos Brown)tried to speak awkward Hindi,don't know why. Talking about story line, its totally beaten track. You might have seenthe same story in hundreds of bollywood flicks if not thousands. Forcamera work, Mexican desert is anyway picturesque, a novicephotographer with a good camera in hand can also give an awesome viewof that region. Hritik, Barbara Mori, Kangana Raut are few of the mostgood-looking people in world, you make them look good on screen. Comeon, I won't give you points for that. In terms of editing the trainsequence, when Jay found unconscious in a goods train compartment wasrepeated at least thrice. Direction and script are confused, wholemovie goes on two track before and after Jay was shot. And transitionto and from flash back is poor. Although acting wise there was not much of an expectation, the castfailed in meeting that as well. Except first few minutes of Hritik'sdance, it was an ultimate torture to sit through 2 hours to watch anundeveloped love story of under developed characters. Take away - Not worth an effort to go and watch in theater

Kites (Casino , Cars , Chases , Guns , Money , Love , English , Spanish , Burger Vs Biriyani) Totally a Roler Coaster...

I wonder how critics and viewers make such negative review of thismovie.. It is pretty well watchable and worthy.. I think most of Indians hated it because,it mostly contains English andSpanish, and the viewers didn't get the languages.. If you didn'tunderstand the movie just watch it with subtitles.. I'm notdisappointed by this film and i feel worth of time and money..I heard that Brett Ratner's version much good than this .. I want togive it a try, But i cant find it in any video store.. It is a feelgood movie with Romance Comedy Action..Hritik action is good with his physic and dance.. If the length ofmovie is reduced to 1hr:40min (deleting songs except "FIRE" would doit)it would be definitely a classic..I liked the ending also very much.. There are two parallel stories in the plot.. one is Hritik searches forhis sweet heart in Mexican deserts and second one is the playback ofhis past life ..wow what a plot.. I recommend this movie to everyone , Definitely a excellent flick Ifyou are a true movie lover then you must give it a try .. I think most of the people will like it.. all people must support this movie , because It is the first step ofmaking the bollywood into another HollywoodPlease just don't make such Negative reviews for this good Experimentalfilm by Indians..My Rating 9/10

KITES – 7.0/10 Director: Anurag Basu Writer: Anurag Basu, Robin Bhatt,Sanjeev Dutta, Akarsh Khurana, RakeshRoshan So what was so wrong with Kites that critics bashed it thoroughly whilethe same ones went on to praise other seemingly "wanabe" pseudointellectual films like New York and My Name is Khan? Were they notpaid enough by the producers this time or was it something else? Thisis a phenomenon that occurs quite frequently in the Bollywood industry,let's explore it without giving it anymore importance than the subjectdeserves.The issue here is less as to why Kites was slammed but rather whysimilar films were highly rated. Kites was a very typical, averageBollywood masala film. So which films do we praise and which ones do weslam? Especially if there is no international opinion we can read onit? This is a dilemma I have frequently seen the Indian critics facing.More often than not, the decision is predetermined. So what happened incase of Kites? The film was big budget, it had an international face:Barbara Mori, Hritik Roshan had adopted a supposedly new chic look forit and everyone was eagerly awaiting its release. The critics found thegolden opportunity they were looking for. The chance to prove they arereally critics – "phew".Three Idiots, My Name is Khan, New York, Ishqyia and several others,all were trying desperately to be something different. The critics needexactly that: a film which basically has enough junk to convince theaudience it's worth their time but in reality is hollow in terms of itsscript, story, structure and its representation of the actual issue athand. So they pick it up and run with it, pretending the industry hasstruck gold. In reality, if they genuinely wrote honest reviews (or ifthey were capable of doing so), all the films would end up in the bin.Kites wasn't trying to do anything of that sort. It set out as aflashy, pop-corn flick and ended exactly that way. As a matter of fact,the cinematography and camera work was far superior to any of the otherfilms I have mentioned above. It didn't have fake, incomplete andill-informed attempts at making the film socially relevant. Once in awhile, it is necessary to pang a mainstream film to maintaincredibility. You can't risk doing that with Amir Khan (3 Idiots) orSharukh Khan (My Name is Khan); it will only ensure that less peoplewill listen to you the next time you open your worthless mouth.Mainstream Indian critics are the worst of the lot I have seen and itis a pity we don't have bold independent people willing to put theirnecks on the line. To some extent, it is difficult to blame them sinceit is their bread and butter; but I wonder what is the differencebetween a sell-off critic and a 'bad' film that they criticize, bothare ultimately selling themselves for earning bread and recognition.Kites is a very typical Bollywood film. The audience is expected to dowhat they are expected to do almost always, leave their brains at home.Go watch it without prior reservations and you might just find yourmoney's worth.

Excessively elongated

The movie was hugely hyped. I hear the production team spent close to 2years shooting, refining and revising the movie to suit a globalaudience and an Indian audience as well. I still went with lowexpectations, and yet what a disappointment It could have been a decentmovie at 60 to 90 minutes, however it was stretched out to 2 hours forthe international audience and a little under 3 hours for the Indianaudience. Many of the moments in the movie that were intended to beintense were moving so slow, it became extremely painful to watch. Suchmoments were even drawing yawns from audience, to my surprise it wasn'tjust me. Very poor editing.There was a major disconnect between emotional moments in the movie andaudience's own state of mind. For instance, the love between the twoleading stars was very poorly established, and so there was just nojustification for their actions; the movie was full of such baselessrelationships.Probably this is the result of editing by a corporate committee.

A great Movie with honesty and true real life emotions...All's well but might not end well some times...thats life..

Indian audience and critics are way behind when it comes to reviewing amovie and whether its good or not...This is shown from the reactions toKITES... I really loved d movie and found it so good that I feel likewatching it again and again...and YES I have seen the movie 3times..Hrithik is mind blowing as always..I just want to say that thosewho think that its a boring movie those people really have no idea howto rate a movie...If u believe in love and think it to b the ultimateimp aspect of your life then you should love the movie..and if u don'tthen sorry folks u r d most unluckiest people in this whole world...Currently I am waiting for 28th May when the KITES the Remix hits thetheater...Will book the tickets in advance..I would like to add one thing nd this comes straight from the heart..Iam really privileged and honored that I could see the magnificent moviein a theater and that too in my generation...

Don't watch this unless you want to laugh at the movie

I had a misfortune of watching the painful Hindi version of this movie.Anurag Basu proved how bad he really is with this movie. The onlyhighlight about the movie is Hrithik and Barbara. What a waste oftalent and money. What was Hrithik thinking? Why did he choose thismoronic script when he claims to be very choosy?- There was a scene ripped off from 'Road to Perdition' - Anurag wanted a Titanic kind of effect with the last scene but manypeople burst into laughter. Most scenes did not have the effect heintended to create. It was all disconnected and dry- The director got bored and started blowing up cop cars. He made theaudience pay for your stupid childhood fantasies- A simple request to all of you: Do not judge Bollywood based on thisstupid movie. There are plenty of really good 'commercial' moviesavailable on netflix with English subtitles you can enjoy.

This Kite Does Not Soar Up To Expectations, But It's Alright

I saw this film first day first show, and it was the only show theyscreened for this weekend coz of some altercations between thedistributors and Karnataka commitee. I was incredibly excited to seeit, as were many of you. If you were expecting a miracle on screen likeme, be happy with a brawny, super sexy Hrithik Roshan instead. DirectorAnurag Basu didn't really need to share credit for the screenplay - thefilm has none. The story in a gist - the boy runs after anything thatglitters, even if it's marrying immigrant women to help them get theirgreen card and charging a fee for it. The same boy meets rich, spoiltgirl and her even richer family and falls in love with the girl'sbrother's fiancГѓВ©e (!!!) and they elope. That's the story of theforbidden love between Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori.This was Bollywood's ticket to make Hollywood look up and notice ourindustry, but it falters big time. Accepted that Hrithik Roshan lookslike a demi-god (that will only get him noticed there), but somehow,that doesn't make up for the shortcomings in the rest of the film. Eventhe most closely cropped closeups, those rippling muscles, the dreamygreen twinkle in his eyes and the sole dance number with his fluidmovements won't help this fail soar sky high. Barbara looks beautifulwhen she smiles and undoubtedly, her chemistry with Hrithik proves thatlanguage is no barrier. There's very little she does except lookbeautifully confused or innocently distressed.The film falters for more reasons than one - the villains are awful. Anunder-utilised Kabir Bedi and an avenging brother, Nick Brown, are justnot evil enough. A word of mention here about the girl Hrithik thoughtwas his golden goose - Kangana Ranaut. In a guest appearance, she, onceagain proves to be the best actress Bollywood could opt for the role.While the first half of the film drags through, the second half is acinematographer's delight - moving all over the stunning Mexicanlandscapes. Strangely, the action packed second half doesn't have muchaction to boast of - save the chase scene on the Mexican highway. Infact, it's tragic that too many of these scenes bear stark resemblancesto the Wild West films or even, some dark Bollywood counterparts. It'supsetting that with all the effort, money and hype behind Kites, thefilm ends up being an ambitious love story stretched way too far. Justlike all the Roshan films, this one too is only for Hrithik. All othercharacters have been painstakingly paled down to let him rise andshine. Still, good for an one time watch. Enjoy. 6/10

Kites: lets hope its flies enough to take expenses out for making..

Hrithik's much awaiting movie finally got released. As a fan of his ientered in theatre after watching exclusive trailer which wasexpressing dynamic action,dance and romance sequences. But itdisappointed me pretty much. Script is soul of the movie. And it needsbe very well researched, since audiences nowadays look much in detailwhile watching a movie. In Kites, script was lengthy and also seemednot improvised. It could have been a better experience to watch it ifthe director would have taken out unnecessary scenes or shorted themout. Sets and locations are decoration of the movie. Though intrailers, locations seems interesting, but while the reels are rollingin theatre, somehow it doesn't interest you much. I believe you canblame over detailing part of story in it. Casting is like givingcharacters the deserving artist. In case of Kites, it got the rightartist but not proper characterizations. Some of the characters werewasted such as Gina (Kangana Ranaut), Bob (Kabir Bedi), & Tony(Nicholas Brown). They entered well but couldn't got enough scope.Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori looks great as couple in the movie. Butthey wont be able to help Kites get through even few weeks ontheatres.Hrithik's dance sequence is the only part worth enjoyable. Itproves that Hrithik's best dancer in Bollywood. Due to promotions ofthe movie, it will have first good weekend. But it will fall followingdays.

I have watched a movie with Hrithik Roshan not some long time ago, and he is a brilliant actor and dancer.n thismovie, 2 people fell in love, and although they were both in seek formoney, they realize love is more important than everything else and thefight for each other.Acting of both lead is so amazing, u can feel their emotion..he speaksIndian and English ,and she speaks Spanish, so thay cannot understandeach other perfectly, but there is a language of love.This movie is worth watching every minute, u will be amazed bybeautiful cinematography and beautiful story, not like other Indianmovies..beautiful, beautiful movie...

Kites is flying high

Only 1 thing to say.....Its the best movie this year . It haseverything that satisfies us, action, style, romance, Hrithik's danceand a good enough story. Don't know why most of the Indians are ratingit low, but it has reached the top 10 in the US Box Office. TheHollywood style of this movie has helped it look better. The cinematography is simply mind blowing, the movie took us to variouslocales which we have never seen in a Bollywood movie before. Thereforethe funnily done action chases (with funny i mean it was a littlepathetic!) were looking a bit real and cool. Anurag Basu has set a newtrend, a new standard, just like movies in the past few months havealready done; Dev D, Wake Up Sid, 3 Idiots, Rocket Singh and now Kites.Anurag has grown more as a director, his last movies weren't bad, but Icouldn't quite connect with them. Kites did the trick! Watch the movieguys...worth every penny.

Big Disappointment

This is not "Titanic",where killing both main character at the endmakes the movie great,but writer-director should understand these notme.What a waste of money and time,Hritik had done this type of movie inpast ,Aap mujhe acche...,& Muzse Dosti Karoge,same boring stuff he haddone with the "Kites".You think that Hero runs away with his love,fightback,destroy the villein and achieve what he wants.Then thats not goingto happen,its exactly opposite what you think,hero runs away withgirl,keep running till they reach bottom of the sea. Its summervacation time,people wants to entertain,media created hype will helpthis pathetic movie initially,there will be no big profit loss due toabove mentioned reasons,so no lesson learning for the caste for makingsuch a "Bakawas"movie. As far as Hritik Roshan ,I really have greatdoubt about his script sense because whenever he dose movie without hisfather"s direction he messes up and ends up withslow,sad,crying,depressing movie. I would prefer to watch "3 Idiots"5th time.

This is GOLD, only watch the INTERNATIONAL English Version

I am not into dumb Musical movies, especially Bollywood ones and when Igot the Chance for Special screening of Kites, I simply turned down.But I decided to give a try for it's International Version crafted bythe XMEN 3 LAST STAND director Brett Ratner.I expected a mediocre typical Bollywood Stupid Musical Dance movie, butthis one broke the mold. This movie will be remembered as theTrendsetter of Hindi films in the International Grounds.It is a Rollar Coaster film, but with a Heart. I don't want to spoilall the story but it reminds me some of the movies like Stallone/SharonStone's Specialist, Mr & Mrs Smith, Bonnie & Clyde, even a Hindi filmDaud, but all those stands down in-front of Kites.I don't know how the Hindi version would look like, how theconservative audience react to Kites. With some Intense Physical scenesand unique narration which really required for the story material, Ithink this movie is going to be a "Love It or Hate It" category.The thing I don't like in this movie is the Love story itself, becauseit's too aimed for Female "Twilight" Audience who worships Romance.Other than that it's a Total Adrenaline movie, with great cast and goodlocations. The main leading man Hrithik Roshan I think is a welltrained actor, with great physique and fight/dance abilities. Thiscould be his "Enter The Dragon" in Hollywood.Also I have to give credit for Brett Ratner for his experimentalRemixed version for the Movie. With no Reshoots, just with the Originaland unused material he made the perfect Crossover Product for an Asianfilm. By hiring composer Graeme Revell the movie got a new dimensionand a fresh soul. The action scores and emotional themes heard in themovie were so brilliant, it definitely going to be Graeme Revell's bestwork after Daredevil and Freddy vs. Jason.My recommendation only watch the International Cut. It's more cooler,edgy and Real. It is much shorter than the Asian version I heard andmuch stylish. Also it got no Dumb Song dance numbers (except the lastone, which was done brilliantly by lead actor Hrithik Roshan).Anyway I give this movie 9 out of 10.Kites = The Next Level

The best movie to ever come out from Bollywood

I watched kites back to back yesterday and today. I have never been Hrithik fan but sure this was the most perfect movie I have ever seen in recent times. Without extra zing and bing and stuffer meat in the bollywood sandwitch, this is simple real feeling love story that touches your heart. It is the most perfect art of movie making in modern history. I am attending movie making classes and review classes myself here in London and I know that everything is so perfect about this movie but above all which is outstanding is on screen chemistry between hrithik and barbaraLove kitessuperb

2 hrs of boredom!

You may be well surprised to see my review, well i am not posting anyspoilers here!Well the movie sucks,acting is good ,cinematography isOK,screenplay pathetic,direction sucks..and the movie should have beencompleted 30 minutes ago! On a whole kites is a disappointment, anothergood thing is FIRE dance of HR...that really rocks! i am giving 4 justbecause of the acting and the dance! Hrithik should henceforth selectgood script and does not waste 2 yrs to make such sh*t.. Kanga Ranaut was underutilized,did not know why she was taken ...onlyto expose her sexy legs?? Barbara and HR were busy kissing each otherrather than putting something materialistic. The villain wasimpressive..!Kabir Bedi was not even shown for minute in the extreme later half ofthe movie whereas he was don of the villains...!Anurag Basu has lost it,after gangster and Life in A Metro..KITEScertainly doesn't fly! It will be declared a FLOP in India if itmanages any thing less than 30 core's distributor share!(Which Lookstough as the film Crashed on Monday)

That is called being impetuous

I like the movie. It ain't bad like others describe. Ever triedwatching Babel. You know there are times when we've gotta be impetuousand need to have some adrenaline rush. It feels good. There are someguys who only want some family sentiment, some monkey dance, and happyending. They are hypocrites. They wanna live far from reality. Somebodysaid that Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but bythe number of moments that take our breath away. This movie followsthis rhythm. Sometimes everything is not happy and despair does teachus guide us in a new path.The performances are good and the chemistry is good. Hrithik shouldhave bettered himself in some scenes like at the bar & making jokeswhile robbing a bank. There are some goofs though. Barbara is gorgeousand performance is good. Anurag has done good job. But, the only faultis that they should n't have released in India. Like I said, they wantsome monkey dances and some nonsensical goof romancing with a stupidchick and some opposition from parents and happy ending. It takes fewmore ages to let them grow out of it.Overall, It has some adrenaline rush,romance & good ending.I would give 8/10 as its made by an Indian trying to catch up with theworld cinema or more simply real cinema.

Awesome must see movie!

This was a great movie that was full of action, drama and excitement. It's a shame that it wasn't in the US theaters for very long. That's okay, because now I can reserve it through Amazon and get a copy of my very own as soon as it's released. I can't wait to watch it again and share it with my friends! :o)

Love it!

I really enjoyed this movie, I do think it could have been better if some parts would've been edited out. The movie starts with a bang and keeps getting better. I have seen it.....I would estimate 5 times and the movie is just better when you watch it for a second time. I recommend Kites for viewers who are interested in seeing something unconventional. This movie really appealed to me because I like Bollywood, I'm Mexican, and because I speak both Spanish and English. This movie should have been released in Mexican theaters.
