The Absent Minded Tourist. (minor spoilers)

With the fall of the Berlin wall, East German, Lena (FelicityWaterman)goes on holiday in California. Except, only tours Los Angeles,and Lena is having the worst vacation, as nothing seems to go asplanned; she learns that reservations she made for a hotel turned outto be phony, a cab driver rips her off, and worst of all, her luggagehas conveniently been switched with that of a lady who suddenly windsup dead. Although, this is understandable, considering how gullibleLena is. You'd think she was new to the planet the way she fell for onestupid scam after the next.Only the scams look good when compared to the fact that she is beingpursued by hoods who have been watching her. When the dead lady's bagdoesn't contain what they want, they go after Lena, knowing she has thesame bag and was the last to see the other lady alive. They figure thatshe is in on the deal. Things seem to turn around when Lenaunexpectedly befriends a fast-talking cab driver named Mike (ChrisLemmon as a sometimes arrogant, sometimes sincere guy), who helps herin sporadically timed moments of emergency.'Lena's Holiday' is more of a dreamy love story and a comedysurrounding a vacation nightmare (but pretty soon only just love thestory) than it is a caper, which you're only reminded off at certainconvenient moments in the movie. I would say it is about 70% lovestory, 20% comedy about Lena's disastrous holiday misadventures (whichis pretty much the entire intro), and 10% caper. It is still anenjoyable comedy, nonetheless.

Oh Those Girls From East Berlin!

This review is from: Lena's Holiday (DVD) Released in '90 'Lena's Holiday' is a unchallenging but well-intentioned, mildly entertaining film. Predictable storyline, plodding script and no surprises at the end. However what it does have and the reason why it receives a 3 star rating is solely for the presence of the exceedingly lovely Felicity Waterman as Lena Jung. Who could resist falling in love with this naive, vulernable beauty with the cute accent who finds herself all alone in Hollywood with the wrong suitcase and a couple of murderers in hot pursuit. Also starring Chris Lemmon (Jack's son) as Lena's love interest. His physical resemblance, mannerisms and voice are so like his Father it's spooky.Make no mistake about it, if you watch this film to its conclusion it's because you, like me, have fallen completely in love with Lena.

Light fare with cute girl.

I enjoyed the movie, partially because I was in rapture with FelicityWaterman. She is very attractive and did an excellent job portraying anaive East German girl coming to visit Hollywood. I even believed shewas European, her accent seemed that good. Also thought Chris Lemmon was good in his role. While obviously no wayhe could match his father's career, was surprised he didn't have alarger career. Seems like a very likable guy. Some excitement, somelaughs, some love. I enjoyed the movie, would watch it again, even ifonly to see Ms. Waterman in that short dress. Somebody involved increating this movie definitely had a thing for James Dean.

My wife and I loved this movie!

My wife (a former East German) happened to tape this off the Romancechannel, and we watched it together later. We had never heard of themovie,and doubt if it ever played in theaters here. The situations were veryfunnyand romantic, and the lead actress' East German accent and mannerisms areright on the mark. We had just been visited by a young (21) East Germanniece of my wife with many similarities to the heroine. We were bothamazedto find she is played by an English actress, Felicity Waterman. I wouldliketo see more of her movies. She is perfect in this one. I enjoyed it asmuchas any movie I've seen in the past year.
