Standard Formula Rom-Com

There was surprisingly little of the baby in the movie. In fact I thinkalmost every scene with the baby was in the trailer, certainly leastall the funny ones. The rest of the movie is a standard "hate eachother at the beginning" romantic comedy, the kind Ms. Heigl alwaysseems to end up in. Do I need a spoiler tag to say, you can guess whereit's going to end up?There were definitely funny moments that weren't all in the trailer, sooverall, it was a fun movie to watch. My wife was crying at the end soit succeeded on that front. The "neighbor" characters were a littlegrating, but the social worker character was my favorite. Overall, adecent enough 90 minutes of my life.

A predictable life

A typical clichéd rom-com with a little drama thrown in. "Life as weknow it" is pretty much a predictable insipid film about two successfulpeople having to raise a baby under one roof. There was nothing interesting about their lives other that the constantbickering which arises just for amusement. I REALLY REALLY tried tolaugh but the jokes were just terrible. Oh yeah! Poo is not funny inany way. How many times do they have to repeat the poo scene.I have to admit the social worker who checks up on them offers the bestlaughs. It's subtle and hilarious. If they could only work that in therest of the film it would've been more entertaining and less yawninducing.Recommendation: Rent it but don't expect any surprises.

Very Funny

I am a Katherine Heigl fan so the only question for me was when to see this movie. I am the father of 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Watching the antics of not knowing what to do with a new baby brought back memories of our first child and wondering how he survived our bumbling learning cycle with him. Heard laughter in the theather from start to finish. The acting and story were great. This is a plain old feelgood movie that will have you using your interbelly laugh and smile. As you can tell, I likethe movie and think you will too.

Heigl and Duhamel spark up the screen!

Not bad at all, And this coming from a guy! I actually watched this oneafter seeing 'Faster' and actually liked this one better. So now i knowif i am going to watch romantic comedies, i'll definitely choose theones starring Kathy Heigl over the ones starring per say Jenn aniston. She is a comfortable and often enjoyable presence on the screen. Myfave movie of hers to date is still 'Knocked Up' and I also enjoyed'The Ugly Truth' that she did with Gerard Butler. In this Heigl playsHolly Berenson, when Holly is setup on a blind date with Eric Messer(Josh Duhamel) by joint friends of theirs they find out its not goingto quite work out between the two of them for the lack of not being tostand each other. After a tragic car accident claims the lives of Hollyand Eric's two pals they are left to care for their 2 -3 year olddaughter Sophie (sorry missed her actual age in the film, if it wassaid at all) . We feel the stress these two are under as they deal withraising an infant and trying to bond as a family despite all theirdifferences. Both Duhamel and Heigl work very well together in turnwhich represents itself on screen as a lot of electricity. If you likeromantic comedies i definitely suggest it!

Its OK, fun movie. But you dont want your girl sleep with any guy

>.< Your girl sleep with any guy ? No way... Maybe, its just normal in this country, but I don't want my daughter like that.

The not so typical Hollywood production

"Life as we know it" seems to be the typical romantic Hollywood movieand it actually is. But there is something deep about it probablybecause it is presented in a very realistic way. It tells the story ofMesser- a keen-on-girls sports broadcaster, and Holly- an average lonewoman who runs her own business. Those two do not really get on wellwith each other, if hate is too strong a word. And here comes themoment of the great change putting them into the complex situation ofhaving to take care of their best friends' baby who have just died in acar crash. Obviously this is the ordinary plot we are all used to butstill there is something capturing about its simplicity andpredictability. The director Greg Berlanti deserves a tap on theshoulder for making a successful twist of both pathos and humour.Throughout the film the viewer is able to enjoy not only the real-lifestory and profound feelings of the characters but also some funnymoments which do enliven the whole production making it quite a goodway to spend one's leisure time on a lazy Saturday night.

It's the Title Stupid

This is a movie that is actually saved by the Stars, Katherine Heigl &Josh Duhamel, and that doesn't happen very often (these 2 saving anymovie that is). The movie is so cliché that you really don't getanything new except the combination of the two leads, and they lookreally good together. Everything about this movie is so "done before"for a Romantic Comedy, that you wonder if the Producers used "software"that automatically wrote, produced, & directed this movie for them, andall they had to do was punch in the names of the two lead characters.Sure, you know everything that's going to happen before it happens, butHeigl & Duhamel look so good together, that it's still worth watching.Even the soundtrack is "cookie-cutter", and leans more on the "bland"side, which is a bad thing, because you're actually not supposed tonotice the soundtrack unless it's really good or bad. And then there'sthe "Title", which is sooo... forgettable, that if you went to thetheater, and saw, "Life As We Know It", on the marquee you might thinkyou were at night school for the Learning Annex. Someone, somewhere inthe Marketing Dept., must be secretly laughing with great satisfaction, because they must have protested the use of this awful Title only to beignored by the idiot boss.

Good laugh, Decent Story **Some Spoiler***

I went to this movie expecting to have a laugh, and you know what thatsexactly what it gave my friend and I. I don't know why so many peopleare bashing the movie. I thought the story was decent enough to keep meengrossed in the movie the whole time. The ending was kind of corny buthey thats bound to happen with a movie like this.I like the characters and how the movie developed through out and feltlike I got my moneys worth, so hey I have no complaints. I really likedJosh Duhamels role in the film, the guy was such a goof, and an ass formost of the movie. I kind of saw myself in him minus the part aboutbeing a total idiot. Katherine Heigl is smoking and I liked hercharacter to in this movie. The relationship between the two of them was kind of believable and notover the top. I think it was very typical when she chased him to theairport at the end and then he was at her house once she got back. Ipredicted this was going to happen which kind of tells you they couldhave made the climax in this movie a bit better.

Great movie

This is a very good movie about how people should put there diffrences aside for the better of someone else. This movie is sad and funny at the same time. a great dramatic comedy about two strangers who go out on a date that ends up in a disaster, but when thier two friends get in a car accident and die. These two people who are not found of each other end up having custody of thier friends baby. Can these two put thier diffrences aside and get along with each other? If you have not seen this movie then i recommend you do

So sweet, but predictable.

I really enjoyed this movie, the characters are funny and the situations provide for lots of comedy amongst the pain. It is of course very predictable, but if this is your criteria for movie watching you'd only watch 2 movies a year (if that!). The love story is very sweet, although obvious from the start. The neighbors are hilarious, there are a couple of eye-candy worthy actors and absolutely no reason not to watch it once. Your man shouldn't even mind it too much, there are sports, lady-chasing, and some generally attractive actresses. All in all, the story isn't the same as other movies though the outcome is, I'd say worth the watch.

Loved It

This was a very touching movie. We bought it on blu-ray/dvd as we do not get out to the movies. The only part I did not enjoy was the marijuana scene... Kind of appalled me. Otherwise, VERY good.

Some Laughs, but Forgettable

I laughed while watching "Life as We Know It", the newest Kathryn Heigl vehicle. Heigl has a unique sort of movie star look and evokes memories of some of the stars of the 50s and 60s. In fact, "Life" seems like a movie Doris Day might have made. I am not a huge fan of Doris Day's films. But after watching this film, I became depressed. "Life" is a forthy, frivolous little confection but it is also a film you will instantly forget. I find it a little sad when people make one film after another, films that do nothing to challenge their skills or showcase their talents.Holly (Kathryn Heigl) owns a small bakery in Atlanta. Her friends fix her up on a blind date with Messer (Josh Duhamel), an editor of live sports telecasts. They are completely wrong for each other and don't get along at all. In fact, they instantly hate each other. Their friends, Allison and Peter (Christina Hendricks, TV's "Mad Men" and Hayes MacArthur) have a baby, Sophie, and name Holly and Messer as the baby's god-parents. This forces Holly and Messer to spend time with one another at Sophie's birthday parties (Holly is a baker and brings elaborate cakes) and other family events One night, Holly gets a phone call and learns her two friends were killed in a car accident. She and Messer soon learn they are the designated guardians and reluctantly try to raise Sophie, based on their friend's last wishes. In reading this synopsis, you can probably guess just about every "twist and turn", if such obvious moments can be labeled as such. This is always a problem in my eyes. Yes, the familiar is welcome in some circumstances, but while watching a film or television show, familiarity usually leads to boredom. There are some funny moments and some funny observations, but they seem too forced, too sitcomy and too few and far between. The film is directed by Greg Berlanti, who comes from television. He is currently one of the producers of the new television series "No Ordinary Family", which is better than this film. When someone comes from a television background, you hope they will use the opportunity to make a film to push for something different and better, something more challenging. But "Life" plays like a sitcom or dramedy. When Messer is faced with a problem, he is saddled with Sophie when he has an opportunity to direct his first sports broadcast, his solution plays out like something you would see on CBS on Monday night. It is not necessarily something you want to pay $11 or more to experience in a theater.I have seen a number of Kathryn Heigl's films and I have always laughed at her performances. Given the fact she and her mother serve as Executive Producer on her films, she is clearly trying to model her career after the comedy stars of yesteryear. She seems to want to be the next Katharine Hepburn or the next Rosalind Russell. Is she as good as either of these classic actresses? No way, but she holds some promise. What I find disappointing is that her films are so mediocre. This seems to be the result of everyone associated with the films; the studio okaying the film, the writer(s) who provide the predictable 'madcap" story, the director who can't make the film something new and interesting. But most importantly, the fault lies with Heigl herself. If, as Executive Producer, she doesn't push the people working on the project to produce something interesting, who will? I still think she holds promise, I am still waiting for a truly memorable film role, but I won't be waiting for much longer.Josh Duhamel is also extremely likable but he also hasn't delivered on the promise many believe he has shown. A former soap actor ("All My Children"), he then starred on "Las Vegas" leading to a role in a surprisingly good romantic comedy called "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton". The "Transformers" films follow, one good and one bad. Maybe the third will be the charm. But it is difficult for him to stand out amid all of the cacophony and destruction of these mega-budget films. His last few films have been disappointing. In "Life", Messer is a mess and he doesn't realize it. But you know that over the course of the film, he will learn what is important in life and he will become a better person. This doesn't come as a surprise does it?Josh Lucas, also once a promising actor who is extremely charismatic, plays the guy Holly is interested in and attracted to. He is completely the opposite of Messer, a successful pediatrician who does everything possible to woo the café owner, he doesn't stand a chance. What happened to his career? Wow! He is now relegated to playing the guy Kathryn Heigl doesn't want or end up with? And when you see one film after another in which people just don't move forward, that is truly depressing. And forgettable. What was the name of that other Kathryn Heigl film? Kathryn who?I don't know about you, but I don't like to pay $11 or more to become depressed.

A WONDERFULLY FUN MOVIE

I loved Josh Duhamel is WIN A DATE WITH TAD HAMILTON so when I saw the previews for LIFE AS WE KNOW IT, I knew I had to see it. LIFE AS WE KNOW IT was everything I anticipated and more-- a funny and sweet romance with a great storyline as well as great acting. It's one of those movies where I wouldn't change a thing and don't want it to end. Definitely a movie I'll watch more than once. I loved the history between the two main characters and how it played out. The tension between Messer and Holly was fun to watch as was their growing attraction for one another. It was a nice surprise to find Josh Lucas, another one of my favorite actors, playing one of the roles. I loved him in SWEET HOME ALABAMA where he played a character polar opposite as that in LIFE AS WE KNOW IT.

Pamperama

Life as We Know It / Rated PG-13 for sex, language, drugs, dirtydiapers A blind date with two very mismatched people leads tocomplications. The people are Katherine Heigl, a cute bakery/restaurantowner and Josh Duhamel a beer drinking, sports loving hunk of a guy wholikes to womanize and jog. The people who set up their date are theirrespective best friends. The BF's get married and have a child. A cutebaby named Sophie. The BF's then meet the grim reaper and leave the kidto the baker and the drinker. More complications ensue. Lots more. Theydecide to raise the baby while living at odds in the dead BF's home inAtlanta, GA in order to raise the cute little Sophie. The predictableevents that are almost completely given away in the film's trailers alloccur right on schedule. Even if you haven't seen the trailer you canpretty well guess the events correctly from what I have just told you.LAWKT is a pleasant if very predictable comedy with more comedy thanexpected. The movie runs a trifle long at 112 minutes and a good 20minutes could have easily disappeared without notice or harm to thestoryline. Since most of the plot issues have come from many othermovies they have pretty much relegated this movie to a "date film" withheavy "chick" film overtones. The cute scenes with Sophie are easilythe best part of the movie. Sophie is played by an adorable set ofacting Triplets known as Alexis, Brynn and Brooke Clagett. They arereally great and look a lot alike. I could not tell them apart. If youcan please tell me how you did it. They appear to have no prior actingexperience. A lot like the Wayans Bros. in any of their movies. Thescenes are actually filmed in and around Atlanta GA. Do not confusethis city with Vancouver BC. Or vice-versa. As a date movie this one ispretty good. The two main stars do a decent job in their Odd Coupleroles as opposites destined for true love. The ever busy Josh Lucasturns up as the Doctor and love interest rival for KH. This movie willlook pretty much the same on DVD as it does on the big screen. At least70% of the scenes appear to be inside the home where the 3 Sophie's andher adopted parents are attempting to cope with her feeding, poopingand just plain looking cute. Pamper anyone? Rated 2.5 out of 4.0reasons to be glad this movie is not in smell-o-vision

A Chick Flick that is not even that sweet or funny

I suppose many of the readers must be asking, "What is a cool guy likeme doing watching a chick flick?" Suffice to say, the power of a womanover a man should never be underestimated. Now for the film. Theproblem with "Life as We Know It," apart from its terrible title, isthat it cannot boast of the tepid achievement of most chick flicks. Most chick flicks, like "A Walk to Remember" with Mandy Moore, at leasthad good natured characters that you liked from beginning to end. Eventhe Hannah Montana movie, which I also panned, had moments that weregenuinely sweet. The same could be said for the superior "CrocadileDundee" movie which is probably the most entertaining and original takeon a chick flick if you think of it. But this film is lacking in thatgood natured quality. I did not buy the love story between HollyBerenson (Katherine Heigl) and Eric Messer (Josh Duhamel) for a second.Of course, I could predict from the first shot that Messer and Berensonsomehow were going to fall in love, but the way they transitioned tothat point was so implausible that I did not buy into it. I did noteven think they were in love when they seemed to be in love. Heiglshould have taken pointers from Juliette Binoche before doing thisfilm. But even that wouldn't have helped because the script was so bad.As for the funny portion, there was not a laugh in this entire movie. The baby Sophie was used extensively to try to generate this laughter, but I found the baby annoying. In fact, the only thing the "jokes"seemed to prove was not how funny it is to raise a baby, but how hardand time consuming it is to raise a baby. The film makers made a bigmistake focusing too much of the movie on the trials and tribulationsof two inexperienced parents trying to raise a baby (along with thetypical toiletry humor, as though disgusting scenes involving babiesare funny. They aren't) that they lost sight of the obvious point thata funny film about a baby has to, by necessity, be inaccurate. Babiesare, for the most part, not funny at all, but a source of endlessfrustration and misery. If they were funny, then every mother raising ababy would be laughing non-stop for the first three to four years. So essentially this movie suffers from two uninteresting characters,Eric and Holly, a boring baby, boring neighbours representing the usualstereotypes (example: the nerd marries a fat woman, who really wants tohave sex with the muscular Eric, because he cannot hook up with the hotRussian girl from the Serebro band) and a boring plot.

Clichéd perhaps but fun and cute and definitely entertaining

At first glance it is very easy to chalk Life As We Know It up to beingincredibly formulaic. I mean we have seen this story time and timeagain. But as with the case of many genre films that doesn't mean thatit is bad. It does however mean that the cast needs to be solid, thestory fun and unique, and it has to be entertaining perhaps more thanjust average. Fortunately Life As We Know It works in those waysexactly. It doesn't blow you away and it doesn't make any unique leapsand bounds and yet it is completely entertaining. Part of the reasonthe film works is because they also make sure the film is a romanticcomedy and that part of the story really works. Chemistry runs high andthe idea of being new parents, suddenly forced into the job adds to thefun rather than being the focus. I think what the film boils down to isthe chemistry between the leads and it truly works. Although I don'tnecessarily believe that the entire cast was perfect in the film theywork enough to make it incredibly entertaining and that is all thatmatters.I have a distinct love/hate relationship with Katherine Heigl. She'sbeautiful and down to earth and I loved her on Grey's Anatomy. She hashad some good solid romantic comedies in the past and she works well inthis film as the uptight organized Holly. She isn't the perfect personfor the role I think but she does well. Josh Duhamel steals the film ashe often does in his roles. Duhamel has charisma and it has reallylaunched his film career. He can have chemistry with just about anyoneand as Eric 'Messer' his wild and loose personality meshes perfectlywith Heigl. They have great chemistry and their romance is what holdsthe film together. The whole fish out of water Dad story works wellwith Duhamel. Josh Lucas has a small but important role as the 'niceguy' paediatrician who gets the bum rush which is common for Lucas inromantic comedies.Long time Producer but new director Greg Berlanti probably took thisproject on because it is formulaic. I imagine this wasn't a bigchallenge for a director and he was probably smart enough to just letthe cast do what they could do best. The supporting cast were allacceptable and served their purpose but there was no stand outsupporters. Equal parts comedy and emotion and all the makings of agreat romantic comedy means this is the perfect date night movie, entertaining and fun and anyone can enjoy it. Definitely worth checkingout because as formulaic and predictable as some might claim it is youwon't be disappointed. 8/10

Great Romantic Comedy

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I watch it often. It's somewhat predictable but very cute. I have a huge crush on Josh Duhamel. Katherine and Josh have great chemistry in this movie. The movie is very comical.

Life As You Make It

Greg Berlanti's 'Life As We Know It' starts off as the typical romanticcomedy. I almost thought it would be another 'When Harry Met Sally'wannabe but that's not quite how it turns out to be. The humour worksbut so does the drama. The story may be predictable but what keeps theviewer engaged are the characters (and actors). 'Life As We Know It' isabout Holly and Eric's growth after they are suddenly forced to raisetheir deceased friends' toddler. It's easy to predict the events andthe ending but the highlights are the slow transformation of these twopeople who initially couldn't stand each other, the ups and downs theygo through etc and the film has heart. Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heiglhave superb chemistry and they depict the growth in their characters (akey part of the film) with remarkable elan. They are terrificallysupported by Melissa McCarthy, Will Sasso, Andrew Daly and others. Thechild actors are good (even though they're pretty much beingthemselves). The setting is that of your typical rom-com, polished setsand whimsical music. The tricky cinematography is interestinglydownplayed. The refreshing dialogues are a big plus.Overall, 'Life As We Know It' has decent direction but its the castthat mainly make this work.

greatexpectations

Beautiful comedy/love story/drama , you name it!

I laughed and cried at the same time watching this movie. The twocharacters are amazing, funny and beautiful. The comedy part is smartand funny, the drama part is also smart and powerful, the love part ispassionate and deep. I recommend this movie to any couple who arethinking of having a baby or to anyone who thinks that he/she is notready for a relationship.I am sure that this movie changed a lot of ourthoughts and ideas. Life is tough and complicated but we have to liveit and enjoy it and LOVE. Recently, we hear a lot about "no stringsattached" and "friends with benefits" type of relationships, let meknow what you think after watching this movie!
