15 Minutes of Shock Followed by 45 of Terror.

I watched the pilot of this show and for the first 15 minutes my jawwas hanging by a thread. I have never seen a more intense, grippingsequence in my life. As an actor and budding filmmaker, I was amazed bythe skill of the writers, actors, director, camera crew, f/x peeps, andcomposer to fill the screen with images of a plane crash aftermath. Thewoman screaming and Dom Monaghan wandering around clueless were brave, effective choices to show the absurd realities of trauma. And just whenit can't get any worse, women start having babies and things startblowing up. And then the trees are crushed by some...thing....which thecharacters avoid for the next 45 minutes. While some may say this is unrealistic and gimmicky, I maintain thatthis is a brave, bold choice for ABC and like other bold movies andshows, if given the chance it will change the art. I can't wait fornext week.

Wow.

I'm hooked... the show gives you bits and flashbacks and teases youalong, and just when you think you've figured it out Boom It's Over forthe night... You either like it or you don't.... So far the writing has been goodwith scenes from the pasts of the characters before the crash. LikeLocke's today-- How did he get into that wheelchair and why was hewalking post-crash? I have a feeling it was something psychosomatic(like a previous shock made him not want to walk to elicit pity fromsomeone and the crash brought him out)Domenic Monaghan in the cast is another reason why I watch the show...Gotta feel sorry for Charlie when his drugs run out....

Fresh Interesting Show...

This is a really good program with very good writers. There are manysubplots that keep you interested and waiting for next week for moreanswers to the many growing mysteries surrounding the island where agroup of plane-crash survivors have wrecked.I also like how the writers go into the history of each main character, making them more interesting for the watcher. This looks to be a hit. There are a lot of mysterious goings-on at the island and a lot ofdrama between the characters of the show.Great to have some TV that doesn't involve CSI, cops, lawyers ordoctors!

Lost is a gift of genius film-making, see it now!!!

Lost. A plane-load of diverse characters are (perhaps purposely?!)stranded on a mysterious island, which harbours several dozen darksecrets(!) all wrapped up in a huge mystery!(with polar bears and amonster! and this is just the pilot!!!!)When i first found this show, i was indeed lost. Lost in a sea of TVmediocrity. How fortunate was i to wash up on the shore of the 'Lost'island and found myself among the other castaways that were alreadyinhabiting it. I missed the first few episodes of series one, but stillfound it incredibly accessible and easy to pick up. This series haseverything you could ever want from a TV show. Great stories whichleave you hanging each week, great characters who are more interestingthan the stories and are easy to relate to, no matter your race, creedor colour, deep esoteric and philosophical questions, the answers towhich, tend to lead to even more deeper and complex conundrums. The concept is simple enough, a plane crashes onto a desert island. Thesurvivors make do with what they can and try to establish a smallsociety. so far, so lord of the flies. But this is not an ordinaryisland. The Island itself is the biggest mystery and the greatest character inthe show. It is at times both an all pervasive, all-encompassing enemyand at other times a nurturing, beautiful, protecting sanctuary for ourheroes. But it holds lots of deep, dark secrets. Each character on the show also harbours a dark secret and no-one iswho they appear to be. Each character is apparently linked in anincredible 'six degrees of separation' kind of way. It also appearsthat some of the survivors were meant to survive the crash, which mayhave been staged or engineered, so that they are on the island for apurpose. The plot and themes are a mystery inside a conundrum inside a puzzle, every time we get a glimpse of an answer, up pop an infinite number ofnew questions. The symbolism is divine and esoteric in nature and hasdeep religious and philosophical meaning. As a writer/director myself, i find the writing of the show absolutelygob-smacking, the show is a work of genius. I find myself amazed at thelevel of detail that has gone in to Lost. Every frame of every scenetells a story or has connotations that affects the show in futureepisodes. It is possible to go back and re-watch episodes weeks laterand find clues and hints dropped everywhere. The multi-layered writingis breathtaking, i cant say any more than that. I can't wait for thewhole show to pan out, only then will we get a sense of the magnitudeof the show's scope.Lost is a gift of genius film-making, i urge everyone to see it now!!!

Everyone's Lost In Lost

"Lost" (2004): Starring Matthew Fox, Naveen Andrews, Josh Holloway,Maggie Grace, Adewale Akinuye Agbaje, Emilie De Ravin, Malcolm DavidKelley, Daniel Dae Kim, Created By Damon Lindelof When "Lost" premieredon ABC 7, I was instantly hooked. Despite the fact that it's extremelyslow-paced and talky, it is haunting and full of suspense. It makes TVexciting again and the first season was the stuff of great televisionthe likes of which had not been seen in years. The various writers, among them Jeffrey Lieber, J.J. Addams and the creator Damon Lindelof, composed a creative concept: Several survivors of a plane crash findthemselves stranded in a mysterious island. The first season, asalready mentioned was a smash hit. Each of the survivors, Sayid, JackShephard, Hurley, Claire, James, and Mr. Eko, each have their own storywhich we get to see in flashback. Then there's the whole business aboutwhat's on the island that is a such a huge threat it can do away withthem. At first, it was some kind of polar bear. In a more recentepisode, it became a puff of dark smoke. If they didn't do this right,it would really be comedy! The Trap Door seems to lead to another clue-there are other plane crash survivors which they eventually meet. Thereare some moments of human drama. We feel for these poor people as ifthis has taken place in real life. But the supernatural elements lendnothing to the story except for utter confusion. It appears the writersare merely making things up as they go along. But other than this flaw, the show is enjoyable in various ways. The cinematography is quitebeautiful as the show is filmed in Hawaii, with its green jungle, waterfalls and forest. The show is strongest when they focus onintimate human portraits. In another recent episode, we tap into themind of Hurley, who is obese and has low self-esteem and wants toimprove himself. Claire's pregnancy and giving birth was also touching. But I'm afraid this show no longer holds any charms for me. It is tooconvoluted in its makeshift plot.

The Best TV Series Ever

Lost is the best TV series there is.First of all,it has GREAT actorsand wonderful directing. The writing is a very controversial issuebecause in the first two seasons the writing was extraordinary butafter season 3 the writing became highly complex. For instance, who isJacob? Why are there polar bears on the island? What's the fog?How didthe island disappear?Who is Richard Alpert?A lot of people think thatthe writers are lost and that they have raised a lot of questions andmysteries that they can't explain.I believe these people are wrong.Ihave confidence in the writers.I think that if the mysteries arerevealed from now all the charm of the series will be gone.Anyway, lostis undeniably the greatest TV series and it will continue to be for along time.

gripping, heart pounding drama

This is one o the best shows ever on T.V. Not only it is exciting, Itkeeps you guessing and thinking. Just when you think you know what isgoing on, you find out you were wrong. The more I watch this show the more I love it. It really reals you inand keeps you there. Also, the more you watch, the more you come torealize that there is something seriously wrong with this island! Thisshow is more griping than all the other dramas on TV right now, possibly ever. It is so unpredictable, crazy unbelievable and totallyoutrageous things happen every episode. Yet, it is totally believableand realistic.I recommend this show to anyone, it will have you laughing, will haveyour heart pounding , will have you perched on the edge of your seatand left open mouthed at the end of each episode.

We all know there are many questions unanswered...

I enjoy LOST to a great extent, but no one can say they haven't gottenannoyed with questions upon questions going unanswered; and not onlythat, they add more and more. I read many blogs on IMDb and other sitesand it seems like the current episode is the one being talked about, which i understand, but i want to talk about some old issues...1. i haven't seen this addressed like ever, but happens to be mybiggest question and that is in reference to jack's father. jack wasbringing his father home in a coffin from Australia and found thewreckage of the coffin, but no body. what is the deal with jack's dad?2. what is with Walt's abilities? this kid can like manifest thingsright in front of him whenever he has heightened emotions. and i guessalong those lines, did Clair like give birth to the next Hitler orsomething? what do you think they even brought up the super-baby foranyway? the show isn't going to be longer than like 6 seasons right? sowhat can they possibly do on this issue anyway?3. Another big question of mine is what are the tattoos on jack's arm.i think they have to be VERY significant and i don't know if anyone hasfound anything out about what the symbols mean or anything...any ideas?More modern references...1. many people push for the island is Percatory idea. if so, do youthink henry's comments about god not being able to see where they areright now bares any support to that idea?2. Do you think that Henry purposefully showed Locke the map while hewas supposedly entering the numbers? more importantly, do you thinkHenry did enter the numbers?3. i'm pretty sure that Eko is building a church, but does anyone elsehave any ideas?i know this was really long to read and touched on many ideas, but ifanyone can comment or write about any or all of these topics, it'd begreatly appreciated by more than just myself.

Enjoyable at first, until you work out what ABC are up to

I watched the first few episodes to see what all the fuss was about. Itwas enjoyable until it twigged what is going to happen. DominicMonaghan, on The Jonathan Ross show even confirmed it himself, after Ihad the thoughts. It totally put me off watching the series any furtherthan a few episodes on series one. What am I talking about? Well the blatantly obviousness of money. ABCwere unsure how Lost would go down, but it's been a big, huge hit.Dominic Monaghan confirmed on The Jonathan Ross show that the writersknow how the show will end. They have an end story and it could ofended it in series 2 but because the show is so huge, ABC have said"You can't end it now, we are making so much money out of this. We needto drag it out of 10 series". And that is exactly why I stoppedwatching. The show if enjoyable yes. But when you realise that all the weirdnessand oddness is simply ABC's choice, to drag the show out for as long aspeople like it, to make more money. You realise that most weird bitshave no relation to the story at all and are fillers, it totally putsyou off. Totally ruins the enjoyment of it. So I stopped watching. If you don't mind all this, you may like it. But I got sick of thefiller episodes, clearly designed to drag the show out.

Hobbes----> Locke

I have not marked this as a "spoiler" as it is either something that a)has already aired in the show or b) is pure conjecture on my part.Thats said, it would seem that this 1st season is planting the seeds ofwhat may turn out to be some sort of future stand-off concerning howthe island will be run. Not saying this is the primary theme of theshow, but it's there. Call it Hobbes vs. Locke or "State of Nature" vs."Tabula Rasa." When pressured and challenged by outside forces (say,Ethan Rom or the monster,) the characters' true beliefs about humanitywill shine through. Essentially, it boils down to whether the islandersbelieve their past has any relevance or bearing on their future. Thosethat are haunted by their own experiences and actions..."the weak",make projections about the behavior of their neighbors. When troublecomes, such people will be suspicious of their surroundings and resortto a "protect your own interests at all costs" mentality. To avoid theinevitable chaos and constant struggle, Hobbes proposed that theLeviathan would be created...a single entity which enforces it's ownversion of the truth with an iron fist. This ruler would protect man'sundeniable right to life, by punishing those in the "wrong" with strictpenalties, even death. As a modern extreme, fascism is an example ofsuch a force. It would seem that most of the characters are/wereoperating under a Hobbesian mentality - for instanceCharlie: Represents the inherent weak and corruptible nature of man. However, Hobbes wrote: All men are equal as "The weakest has thestrength to kill the strongest." Natural sheep to Jack's "Shepherd"Jack: Natural leader. However, despite being a doctor, tends to protecthis vision of "right" by force with savage threats and torture. However, something about the island (the isolation? other forces?) hasmade several of the characters reach a mental clarity about themselvesand their surroundings. Stuck on a deserted island, they realize theimportance that they have nothing tying them to their previousexistence. "Tabula Rasa" is the Lockean idea that humans are born"blank" and their identity is defined entirely by events after birth.Humans are not naturally flawed, but rather shaped by theirsurroundings and an overriding idea of what is "right." Therefore, government's purpose is not to tyrannically reign over everyone, butrather to create an environment which fosters/reinforces growth of"natural law." The island seems to have the power to "re-birth," asevidenced by what has happened, both physically and mentally, to JohnLocke. I'd go on...but I'm quite tired now. Quickly, others that seemto be on this path of enlightenment are Kate, Sayid, Boone, and maybeeven Sawyer. So, if my predictions hold true, I would think Jack,Charlie, Jin and Shannon will eventually band together in a meeting ofthe minds. Believe it or not, I foresee a future showdown where theyultimately become "the bad guys." And as for the monster...I have nofreakin' clue.

Great Photography - outstanding acting

Lost premiered tonight on ABC. I am just a fan of good productions andacting and certainly NOT an expert in "the business." But, here are mypersonal comments... I enjoyed the first episode and Matt Fox wasoutstanding as Jack... I enjoyed his interpretation of the part. MattFox was the star of this production and he made it seem real andbelievable. It is great to see a young actor develop and become a star!Overall, I found the character development of several of the passengerswas unusually good for a premier (usually on series TV it is awful, which is why I often skip network shows). I hope this series continuesand emphasizes the human interactions leaving most of the "monster"stuff as a teaser... But, that is my personal bias... I must commentabout the photography.. Wow! A beautiful job... All in all, the starsare great and the plot was very captivating! I will be watching orrecording next week! Good LUCK on LOST!

Missed the first

We don't see much telly. We evidently missed the five million dollarpilot. We hope a lot for this one - just something a bit different, abit stimulating, a bit intellectually challenging perhaps? What'sobvious already - who knows how long the feeling will last - is thatEvangeline Lilly is a star. The girl has such charisma, such naturalbeauty... The 16 year old radio signal is upon us. 48 people on thatisland? The possibilities are nearly endless. Reviewing this in totoalready is going to be difficult. It's ambitious. The studio - ABC -evidently really need to come from behind in the ratings war. Let'shope they let the artistic forces prevail. That's how it always goeswhen things turn out well. So far it looks very good - and promising.

Fascinating show

I'm not one to watch much t.v. let alone follow one almost religiously, but this show has grabbed my attention from the beginning. Each week ican hardly wait to find out more clues and become closer to solving themystery. You may not get all the answers you hoped for but thats whatmakes the show so intriguing ,one question is answered and morearise. The characters and strong and the plot keeps you wanting more.Ifyou like to watch a show thats not only entertaining but really makesyou think , this is the show to watch.I don't want it to end becausei'm not sure a show this smart will come along again. You start torealize that there are clues throughout each episode , which makes it agood idea to watch the episodes twice.I highly recommend this show toanyone who is looking for something on television that is finallyintelligent.

Watch the pilot, and you'll be trapped on that island as hopelessly as they are...

I usually can't stand these types of drama/thrillers, but I gave it atry once I heard about the unusual premise... not your typical"marooned on a deserted island" story. After watching the pilot I havebeen fiending for every next episode worse than Charlie would for hisnext hit. It's something about the way they show you just enough, injust the right order to know that all you want to do is find out whathappened, what is happening, and what happens next... the suspense willattack you from every direction. The series of events that unfold willnot be discernible in any sort of linear fashion, and yet all you wantto do is put it together... Even if it makes absolutely no sense whenyou find out, it doesn't matter... all you want to do is know...So far I've been watching them back to back, but once I reach thelatest aired it will be excruciating. If they keep this momentum goingit would have to be the first series I'd ever worry about missingsomething ever. Even after the greater part of the season, the depth ofthese characters remains bottomless, which adds to the appeal when eachlayer is presented. The uneasy feeling you get from not truly knowingthem this many episodes in is an explosive catalyst for every turn ofevents. I've never really seen anything quite like it, very original.

Excellent stuff!

I watched the first series avidly, but wondered whether I'd go backagain after a lengthy break from it. However, I tuned into episode oneof Series 2 and was hooked all over again. This really is excellenttelly; ground-breaking stuff like Mission:Impossible back in the 1960s.The characters are well rounded, and expand as the series goes on, theychange as they adapt - some more readily than others - to their newsurroundings, but they cleverly remain strictly in character, and yetit is more than possible to have sympathy for someone whom you wouldn'thave thought you could ever feel sorry for, when something reallycrushing happens to them. I hope there will be many years of 'Lost' tolook forward to - and I don't actually mind all that much if I neverget answers to all the mysteries!

I think it's much more the excellent.

Lost raised the bar 5-6 notch. I have never seen such chiseledcharacters before Lost. With it's incredible complicated story it ranover Harry Potter and even Minority Report, I think. But the great thing to me is it's not a simple story but series ofbeautiful stories of different people. They believe they have never gotcontact with each other, but they're wrong. The makers of Lost found out what is the only sense of every novel, film and any story. What is the reason why people did what they havedone. This story is beyond belief. I don't know how it can be written, whenit's impossible to contrive something like this.

I wish it had been...

We got the first episode of 'Lost' in the UK last night, broadcast onChannel 4. For you septics, Channel 4 was once the home of innovativeand interesting TV, bringing us the best shows from the US andelsewhere, and funding top film and TV product in the UK. Nowadays itprovides 'Big Brother' and other piles of unthinking crap in an effortto single handedly justify comments about the dumbing down of themedia, and a good job it is doing too! Anyway, 'Lost' fittedbeautifully into Channel 4's new profile, being unutterably poorquality TV.We begin with our hero (inevitably called Jack, but could equally havebeen Brad or Max or something) waking up in a bush (not that kind, although it is inevitable that will happen shortly) and wandering downto the beach to find the plane in which he had been travelling all overthe place. There was also a scary golden retriever dog hanging about,no doubt meant to add suspense. Anyway, Jack heroically saves a fewpeople from their own stupidity, and reveals that he's a doctor(Surprise surprise. Why can't we have a heroic chartered surveyor?) bysaving some lady's life. After he's fixed everyone on the beach heheroically heads off into the bush to tend his own injuries. LuckilyKate, a girl, appears. She has sewn up curtains before, but is havingtrouble sewing up Jack. Jack tells a heart-rending tale about how whenhe was a trainee doctor he did some surgery that took a long time andwas hard, but he counted to 5 and wasn't scared and it was OK. How Ihowled with laughter. This sort of stuff just doesn't work nowadaysdoes it? Anyway, luckily it worked on Kate, who could then sew him up.Hooray. On to more heroics.Next thing, when everyone is sitting about feeling a bit sorry forthemselves, a monster of some description is running aboutimpersonating a Jurrasic Park animal of some sort. This really finishedmy interest off. Scary monsters? You're kidding. Then Jack went to theplane, then he found the pilot, then the pilot got killed by the beast. Then they all ran off. Then I vowed to never watch this again.

OOPS! I reviewed this show in the wrong place!

"The island brought me to Lost" that was supposed to go here. Instead,I reviewed it in the Roswell space. Last night was the season finale.Sawyer, Jin, Michael, and Walt, were on the raft and the first thingthat happened was that they lost their rudder. Sawyer retrieved it.Then they picked something up on the radar. It turned out to bepirates. They only wanted Walt. Then they probably blew up the raft.Meanwhile, back on the island, Marie, who's playing 52 pickup with only51 cards, took Clair's baby. In the flashback, Charlie and hisone-night stand, I think it's Clair, I'm not sure, were in bedtogether. Charlie and Sayid went after the nut case Marie, who saidthat the she heard the Others saying that they were going to take theboy. Clair finally named her son Aaron. When she saw Marie, she askedher why she scratched her. Jack, Kate, Arzst, Fat Boy Slim, and Lockefinally reach the ship. Jack, Locke, Kate, and Arzst, get the dynamite, which is unstable, and discover that the ship is a slaver because thereare chains and skeletons chained to the bulkheads. However, the mostimportant question is: What's down the hatch?

Parts of Season 1 worked...

But I got sick of what I deemed this show to be from the beginning....suspense porn. Every commercial break needs a "dun dun daaaaaah" soundeffect. Season 1 was somewhat interesting as the Island's supernaturalmysteries, mixed with slow revelations of back story, kept theprimitive survivalist state of the character's fresh and raw... Season2 and the stupid machine got tedious and the second survivors allannoyed me. Now Season 3 with the Others just feels way too M. NightShyamalan "Village" contrived... and I know more little broad strokemetaphors are in the works... so I get plot reductions from co-workers,I've decided to pretty much only pay attention to Season openers andfinales since they sum up the complete season's story lines neatly thenanyway. Very overrated show, and I think people just like it for it'ssimplicity.
