The kiddie set can chortle at Megamind's slapstick and its goofy one-upmanship while adults get a kick out of all the smart spatial tricks that highlight the 3-D effects.

This review is from: Megamind (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) Love this movie. Saw in theaters. My daughter used her money to purchase this DVD. It skips. Very disappointed. Otherwise, would rate movie 5 stars.

Noisy, wild, hyperactive, crazy... pretty good!

Noisy, wild, hyperactive, crazy... depending on how you interpret thosewords will likely determine how much you like this movie. Thecomparisons to "Despicable Me" (which came out a few months earlier)are inevitable, as is those who will line up behind one or the other asbetter. Personally I go with Despicable Me for its extra heart, wittierdialogue and more laughs. One thing that Megamind has in abundance is dazzling animation on agrand scale. The destruction is phenomenal in some scenes, and thebattle between Megamind's Monster Machine and his Monstrous Creation(Titan) has some of the hardest hits I've ever scene in any film. Ialso liked the insights into the superhero genre and seeing thecaricature hero & villain both evolve in the course of the movie. It did start to get predictable in the last half, to the point where Istarted guessing lines of dialogue (much to the amazement of my boys)and correctly foresaw plot twists. Also, many scenes in the movie arebacked-up by raucous 80's & 90's metal, and there's a lot of noise andhigh-intensity action throughout the film. While I do like this stuff,it has to be balanced for the right impact and here it just felt likean assault of the senses. Last of all, there is a lot of exposition,(starting from the opening intro) and I think it would have been abetter film to follow the old adage, "Show, don't tell".Overall, it was enjoyable and entertaining. Some good laughs, some hardactions, great special effects... worth watching. But Ohlo, not forsmall children!

Not Great But Pretty Good

I took my entire family to the theatre tonight where we watched thismovie, the kids really enjoyed this a lot at least for the first hourof the movie, and even better my partner and I were not completelybored like we are at most "kid movies". The action scenes were prettyentertaining and well done for a kid movie too. My partner enjoyed italmost as much as the kids, more so than they enjoyed the lame Alphaand Omega which I thought was awful and I could barely sit through. This movie got really boring for me really fast but at least I couldsit through it and there were a few funny parts through the wholemovie, enough to keep me awake at least :) I guess most of you knowwhat the plot is, so I guess there is no need to go into it. It is justcampy superhero fun and involves super powers and the super heroes whowield those powers. The only problem is there's been way too manysuperhero and animated superhero movies especially as of late so it gotkind of boring quick for me and my partner, and the kids just got tiredby the end.

A passable time-killer for kids, more boring than painful for adults, but animated films have established a higher bar to clear.

Future Classic and masterpiece

This review is from: Megamind (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) I've seen it with my kids and we laughed from the very beginning until the very end. Spanish is our mother tongue and we live in Argentina, but we have seen it in English with no subtitles: even better. We've seen it three times in a rainy weekend. Haven't got tired and discovered different things. Entertainment guaranteed and I recommend it for anti hero picture lovers.

Absolutely amazing - as good as Shrek 1 and a zillion times better than Shrek 2-4

I created an account only to review this movie. IMO, this is the bestanimated movie I've ever seen! The dialogues are simply awesome, thegraphics are unbelievable! Smoke scenes, lightning ... it's just toomuch! I've seen the movie 3 times already and I just can't get enough. If you liked the Incredibles (this movie is nothing like it!), Shrek 1,Madagascar 1, you are going to love this movie.I forced a friend of mine who doesn't like animated movies to watchthis one and he absolutely loved it. We were laughing for 15 min afterthe movie ended! Irrespective of your age, this movie as one of themost amazing dialogues and storyline ever! Highly, highly recommended!

Can a villain become a hero?

Megamind (animation, action, comedy)Directed by Tom McGrathStarring the voices of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Brad Pitt and Jonah HillDreamWorks | 2010 | 96 min | Rated PG | Feb 25, 2011Video:Video codec: MPEG-4 AVCVideo resolution: 1080pAspect ratio: 2.35:1Audio:English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1French: Dolby Digital 5.1Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1Portuguese: Dolby Digital 5.1Subtitles:English, English SDH, French, Spanish, PortugueseDiscs:50GB Blu-ray DiscDVD copyThe Film 4/5Hollywood has made more than its fair share of superhero movies since Superman (1978) was released, but the genre remains one of the most popular. Viewers, especially in North America, enjoy recapturing childhood memories and seeing their heroes on the big screen. Most of the plots are predictable, but that doesn't detract from the fun.Megamind deviates from the traditional plot in the same way that Despicable Me did. We are asked to sympathize with the villain. The movie begins with Megamind (Ferrell) leaving his parents in a ship when his planet is on the verge of destruction. Does that sound familiar? References are made to Superman throughout the film. While this is happening, a child is sent to safety from another world close to destruction. The two children fall to Earth and experience very different childhoods. Megamind lands in a prison yard, while the other child falls to wealthy parents and grows up to be Metro Man (Pitt).Metro Man is squeaky clean and spends his time doing good deeds. He can fly and he's invulnerable. The city worships him. Megamind leaves jail and decides that he can't compete on those terms, so he decides to be bad. Metro Man is loved by the media and Roxanne Ritchi (Fey) is the reporter who plays the equivalent of Lois Lane in the story. Megamind decides to capture her to lure Metro Man into a trap. It works and Megamind discovers an apparent vulnerability in his rival, resulting in Metro man's death just 20 minutes into the movie. The city mourns the loss of its hero and Megamind begins his reign as an evil overlord with the help of his sidekick, Minion. It's hard to hear the name Minion without thinking of Despicable Me. This Minion looks like a happy piranha balanced on the body of a robot. Some of the humor is left to our imagination. For instance, what kind of reaction would Minion get when he buys coffee and donuts to take home to Megamind? Both movies ask us to focus on the villain and see that they are not all bad. Megamind regrets the death of Metro Man and finds that he can't adjust to life without him. He functioned better when he had a natural enemy. To remedy the situation, he develops a gun designed to infuse its victim with special powers. He inadvertently shoots Roxanne's cameraman, Hal (Hill), and decides to groom him to replace Metro Man.Megamind has the ability to change shape for limited periods of time and that's the source of much of the humor. Hal is renamed Titan. Megamind gives him a costume and begins to school him while appearing as Jor-El and sounding like Marlon Brando. Titan isn't cut out to be a hero and struggles to learn. He eventually finds that he prefers using his powers for criminal purposes rather than for good. Megamind has created a monster. This is where the movie deviates from the expected path somewhat. Megamind is the only one who can stand up to Titan and so he starts to become the good guy. We root for him when he's battling Titan in scenes similar to those in The Incredible Hulk when Bruce Banner fights Emil Blonsky. There are a few more plot twists and I won't reveal them here, but the movie works. It's funny, fast-paced, and the action scenes are frequent. Megamind is a character with many frailties and we're allowed to see them. That's why we are drawn in and made to care about the outcome. Ferrell is particularly good as the voice of Megamind, but none of the actors disappoint. Video Quality 4/5Modern animation is well-suited to Blu-ray and usually results in flawless transfers, but Megamind falls short of a perfect rating. It looks good for the most part; colors are bright and detail is strong. However, on closer inspection, you'll find frequent aliasing. Whether it's in hair, buildings, escalators or fire escapes, you'll see it often. This causes a slight flickering which can be distracting at times. The other problem is not a fault of the transfer, but the source material. Compare Megamind to a Pixar title and you'll see what I mean. The image, particularly in the background, appears flatter and lacking in detail. It looks less realistic than something like Up. These quibbles aside, it's still a good-looking title.Audio Quality 5/5The English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1 track does not disappoint. This is one of the better titles for showing off your sound system. There's a lot going on at all times and you'll find yourself completely immersed in the action. Ambient sounds are strong and well separated throughout. The soundtrack includes a number of driving rock songs and they sound great on this track.Special Features 4/5Audio Commentary with the director, producers and writersThe Animator's Corner with a PiP trackComic CreatorBehind the MindDeleted Scene (1 minute)Meet the Cast of Megamind (9 minutes)Inside Megamind's Lair (7 minutes)AnimatorMan (2 minutes)You Can Draw Megamind (13 minutes)Mega Rap (1 minute)The Reign of Megamind: Video Comic BookSpot the Difference gameMegamind: The Button of Doom - animated short (15 minutes)World of Dreamworks AnimationTrivia TrackPreviewsMegamind is an enjoyable romp with plenty of laughs. Mega fun!

I don't watch many animation movies except the very famous ones thatare recommended to be damn good, but I had a feeling about this one.And it turned out to be one of the funniest movies I have ever seen -animation or otherwise. I would rate it on the same level as Kung FuPanda and Ice Age 3 (9 out of 10, 10 being death by lols). The plot in itself is engaging - a supervillain get terribly boredafter vanquishing his arch nemesis - the Superman-heavy characterMetroman. So he goes and creates a superhero of his own in order to getback to his good-vs-evil bit. But things don't go as planned - ofcourse - and the movie just takes of from there. The characters feel real, the humor is very refreshing and off the cufftype, not your boring predictable sitcom style based on sillyexaggerations. The level of the animation seemed quite good and thevoice actors are perfectly suited for their roles - Brad Pitt as thesuperhero Metroman, Tina Fey as the beautiful reporter who keepsgetting kidnapped by the evil Megamind voiced by Will Ferrel. There'seven a minion named, well Minion. Throw in a douche bag cameraman, agrumpy jail house warden and the mayor for minor bits and we have apretty solid cast. The best part is that while the movie is constantly hilarious, the plotand the characters don't stagnate at any point. Even though some partsare predictable, they are few and you aren't really watching a thrillerso that you would expect a half dozen plot twists. One final thing - the music is awesome. In fact, it sets the tone ofthe whole movie and the choices made go really well with the charactersand the situation. All in all, a superbly made, hilariously funny, refreshingly originaland enjoyable experience!

Awesome Family Fun!!!

This movie is perfect for the whole family. It's hilarious and has aheart-warming storyline. Will Ferrell was awesome as Megamind, thevillain and Metro Man's archenemy. On the day Metro Man is beinghonored by the city, Megamind breaks out of jail with the help of atalking fish named Minion and kidnaps Roxanne Ritchi. Megamind finallydefeats Metro Man and takes over the city. Over time, Megamind growsbored and wants an enemy to fight. He creates a serum of Metro Man'sDNA in order to create a superhero, but along the way, he disguiseshimself as a museum curator named Bernard and starts to fall in lovewith Roxanne. After he accidentally turns Roxanne's cameraman, Hal intoa hero, he uses his power for evil. Megamind must stop him, save thegirl, and become the hero himself. I highly recommend MEGAMIND!!!

Meh, give me the 3D version or forget about it.

I saw this movie at the theater. It's a great movie, I highly recommend it. It's at least a 4 star movie. A great animated film that is suitable for kids and enjoyable by people of all ages. But what's this crap with just the 2D version? This isn't the only movie doing it either. If the studios want to sell me movies that came out in 3D, they can make a ******* 3D version. I bought the 3D movies I like in 3D. I didn't buy the ones not available in 3D. See how that works studios? You have to put out a product I want, or I won't buy it. I am so sick of all the double and triple dipping with the special additions and such as well. I bought Despicable Me, because Universal had the good sense to give it a proper 3D release. So what's the deal Paramount? Where is my 3D version of this? When I buy a TV, they don't tell me all they have is the basic model, and maybe if I'm lucky, they'll sell the deluxe version later. If I order a fillet, they don't tell me "Maybe another time, have this sirloin instead." I would like this in the highest quality. If I didn't care about quality, I'd just download it off the piratebay.

Please Support MEGAMIND With Your Own Dollars....

Megamind is a little blue martian who lives with his mother in a city. His father is never discussed, even though he wants to know who his dadwas. Watch how he meets a little pink mammal, Tina Fey, gets trained bya Mahout to become a bad boy, and not only finds out about his father, but makes him proud by his deeds.Overall, I thought this movie was enjoyable, if a bit silly. However, one scene that just strained credulity was where Megamind hacks intoBrad Pitt's lab computer. Okay, this was just stupid. Unless he was anincredible guesser or social engineering savant, this just cannothappen. The one exception would be if Brad Pitt was stupid enough toprogram his lab computers with a password like 'labpassword,' whichwould be completely out-of-character for someone who designs cuttingedge high-tech stuff. Avoid like a disease....

The Vidiot Reviews...

MegamindThere are three things one needs in order to be a true super-villain:arrogance, aggression and baldness.Fortunately, the malefactor in this animated movie suffers from all ofthe above.Soon after thwarting Metro City's muscle-bound protector, Metro Man(Brad Pitt), for the first and last time, evil genius Megamind (WillFerrell) becomes bored with no adversary around to antagonize. Therefore, with the help of his minion, Minion (David Cross), hetransforms the mild- mannered news cameraman, Hal (Jonah Hill), into asuper-hero.But when hotshot reporter Roxanne (Tina Fey) enters the picture,Megamind is too distracted to pay attention to his now corrupt, capedcreation that's running amok.Although it does contain a few choice chortles, the bulk of Megamind issimply a retread of other-–better–animated super movies.Furthermore, why would a super-villain waste time constructing asuper-hero, when they could be plundering pocket universes for darkmatter? This 3-D, animated adventure leaps -- in a single bound -- into familiar comic-book/superhero territory but soars on the strength of zippy running gags and high-flying visuals.

Beautiful, meaningful, fun

This review is from: Megamind (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) This is an all-around great movie. There is something for children and grownups alike. The voices are outstanding, especially of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Ben Stiller. The story is well told. I find the main idea to be, that villains (criminals) and heroes (cops) are really on two sides of the same business and cannot exist without each other. The visuals are superb, with incredible details, especially of crowds, crumbles of buildings, and dust. The sound is as good and detailed as it gets, and it surely takes advantage of all speakers. Highly recommended for 90 minutes of fun. I have been smiling for days as I recall some funny lines, and think about the deeper meaning of the film.

Though clearly derivative and with a good dash of The Incredibles, Megamind is breezily directed by Madagascar's Tom McGrath and there's plenty of fun lines, too.

What Shrek was too fairy tales, Megamind is too superheros

A entertaining send up of Superman, but this really takes through thesuper villains point of view.An alien with a big blue head named Megamind(Will Ferrell) is a supervillain because he feels it was his destiny. As with nemesis MetroMan(Brad Pitt), a superman like hero with a Bruce Campbell like grin. One day captures news reporter Roxanne(Tina Fey),in hopes of luringMetro Man in a trap to destroy him, when his plan does work, Megamindquickly feels he is lost without someone to battle with. so he quicklygets a sample of Metro Mans DNA, and puts it into cameraman Hank(JonahHill), but Megaminds plan quickly goes down hill, cause instead ofcreating a hero, he ends up creating a villain, worse than him. Howwill Megamind put this too an end? Not quite as good as The Incredibles(2004), but still good, Ferrell,Pitt, Fey, and Hill are all good in there voices. It was a funnysuperhero like send up. It also had great animation also. So if you hadenough of Shrek, then give Meghamind a look.
