Chick Flick - Proof!

Chick flick, and yes, guys have their guy flicks but I'm just showing how formula genres have a life of their own irrespective of how much value there is in them.Proof:(1.) Three young women leave their fantasy live in a small town to go to Paris.(2.) Live a Cinderella vacation. (3.) Lots of attention; money; hot spots.(4.) Three guys (of course) representing the three archetypes - good ol' boy next door; adventuresome guy; charming wealthy prince type. (5.) Lots of appropriate filler music to cover for the numerous dull, tedious, boring scenes.(6.) Gotta have the emotional mood swings within and between our girls to provide emotional tension but was too contrived. (7.) Goodness prevails. (Must be a movie.)Conclusion:Divorce rates; TV soaps; fantasy movies; shopping; food addictions; support groups/activities - is it really that bad?

Princess Diaries: again

This was a pretty good movie besides kissing and REALLY immodest oufits. It was also princess diaries again: in a way, that it. You see it's about Grace (selena gomez) and her step-sister I think and best friend who go to Paris because they want to take a "break" sort of, but they end up in Monte Carlo because she's mistaken for the princess person of Monte Carlo. It's pretty interesting, but it's a little like princess diaries. and there's lots of "un-reasonableness" in it, but it's a pretty good movie.

Perfect

This review is from: Monte Carlo (DVD) Not many movies that are made for kids are appropriate for kids these days. But this movie is the exception. It is an awesome movie--not only for kids, but also for adults.

Typical teen movie

As the summary suggests this is indeed a typical coming of age teenmovie with appropriate characters and a good cast. That the movie isset in Paris and Monte Carlo is refreshingly new. Also the plot isslightly different from movies of this genre that it is safe to saythat the movie is definitely worth watching. Some supposedlycoincidental events which occur in the movie will possibly occur onlyin a movie. But i'm not actually complaining about that. The first halfhour or so is definitely slow. If you know the story of the movie or ifyou are one of those persons who read the synopsis of the movie beforedeciding to watch it then the first half hour or so definitely leavesyou waiting for that moment to happen. But then once the stage is setand everything it definitely moves fast. many parts of the movie arefunny and some attempted humor are just cliché. Selena Gomez has doneher part well and its not surprising. It would be interesting to seeher more in the future as an actress. Overall I wouldn't say no toperson who wants to watch this movie.

A Nutshell Review: Monte Carlo

If you had asked me who was Selena Gomez a few months back, I wouldhave just blinked at you. If not for attending Justin Bieber's 3Ddocumentary film, being intrigued by his internet fueled meteoricsuccess and inevitably feeding off the tabloids on his career, I wouldnot have known who the lead actress was, but now I do. Based loosely onthe novel Headhunters by Jules Bass, the release of Monte Carlo thisweek in the US and Singapore would probably be deemed suicidal, if notfor its appeal to the intended demographic left out of the testosteronefilled Transformers, and the more mature movie going audience who wouldlikely flock to Larry Crowne starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts(opens in Singapore next week to avoid a three-way battle). And appeal to that group it does, playing up to its favourite thingsthat if I were a girl I would gobble this up hook, line and sinker. There's travelling to Europe, Paris no less, with a BFF, and a sisteryou'd love to hate in tow, meeting attractive and more importantly, single guys at every turn, travelling in luxury from being ferried inprivate jets and limousines, rubbing shoulders with royalty and therich and famous, as well as having an arsenal of gorgeous outfits toget into topped off by million dollar jewellery, participating inexotic games and attending the coolest parties. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?But that's about it, with the film very much set in territory alreadyexplored in countless of films dealing with coincidental, mistakenidentity, where the Prince and the Pauper switch places – this onebeing one sided and without permission – for the pauper to experiencethe high life, leading onto moralistic questions such as whether onewill be enticed by things superficial and materialistic, or will onereturn to one's humble roots with morals, principles and values intact. It's the same old usual themes about wanting to fulfill personalobjectives and dreams, whatever they may be, whether done so throughhard work, or just by meeting the right people.Selena Gomez takes on two roles here, although her role as the meanBritish heiress Cordelia Winthrop Scott looks like she's suffering froma constant PMS. Her other main role is of course as Grace, the simplewaitress from Texas who had graduated and is taking her graduating tripto Paris with best friend Emma (Katie Cassidy), only for her parents toget her half-sister Meg (Leighton Meester) to tag along despite theirhating of each other's guts. So begins the journey of self-discoveryfor all – Grace to decide whether she should keep up with the charadeshe and her pals find themselves in at the risk of being a fraud toTheo (Pierre Boulanger) of the Hotel de Paris, Emma to try and figureout if the high life and potentially rich royal-family linkedacquaintance can be anything more than friends as compared to hertroubled boyfriend Owen (Cory Monteith), and Meg learning to becomingless uptight while getting swept off her feet by Aussie tourist Riley(Luke Bracey).Yes, that's all the romance lined up, as they zip around the differentplaces in luxurious Monte Carlo, having the second act centered aroundclosure in and around a million dollar necklace meant for a charityauction. In some ways that was the best part of the film as finallythere is a sense of purpose and urgency to try and resolve everythingamicably and set their identities straight as their charade comes tothe inevitable close, with well timed, expected comedy to pave the wayto a finale that ends all too conveniently.Naturally the landscapes make up the film with its far flung, beautifullocations that would just make you want to save up enough to jet set inthe same fashion, trying very hard to make you forget the many plotconveniences and coincidences, for the very obviously predictable waythis teeny bopper film is appealing to the teenage female populationthrough the latest It girl making that transition from music to film.Strictly or the fans only.

very entertaining

i found this film to be entertaining and funny . i went to see it withthe least expectations .selena Gomez is a good actress and she broughtback the times when we used to admire teen actresses and take themseriously . actresses like Christina Ricci and Brooke shields when theywere teens . there are few deep messages in the film . about honesty ,money . love and friendship .also i would like to say that thecinematography was wonderful and it was a big promotion for MonteCarloarts with funny absurd situations like some cultural differencefunny moments in France and how some hotels aren't up to standardsthere when they are being advertised in the best way possible . . butthe way it develops the story is admiring. all in all i recommend thisfilm for anyone anytime . it is a feel good funny romantic flick .

A sweet harmless movie that if not taken too seriously is quite enjoyable.

Monte Carlo is a sweet romantic comedy in the same vain as The LizzieMcGuire Movie, the story is about a small town gal from Texas, her bestfriend and her uptight sister who all travel to Paris for a week, onlyto get separated from their tour group, they take refuge in the nearesthotel and one of the gals is mistaken for a wealthy British heiress andthat's when the story takes off. Cue lots of awkward situations and acute love story and there you have it.Selena Gomez is quite nice to watch, as is Miss Meester and KatieCassidy, all three girls have their own storyline throughout the filmand each get their chance to shine. Full props to Selena for beingentirely convincing as a snooty British snob, she nailed it. The onething I didn't get was everyone in the movie from Texas has a Texanaccent except Selena, I don't know if this was a deliberate mistake orjust plain laziness, but for me it was the only thing that bothered me.The movie is quite girly, not that that's a bad thing, that's thetarget audience, but for me it was still easy to watch and enjoyableenough. Give it a go, its not a classic teen film but hey, it's niceenough for a movie night with the girls. :)

A Quasi-Romantic Comedy Film in Monte Carlo

Overall, I find Monte Carlo entertaining with all its funny antics. Butit didn't quite meet my expectations -- what with the half-bakedaffluence of the setting, its formulaic and hard-to-believe plot, andthe love teams that didn't have that tickling sensation one wassupposed to get when watching romantic films. The plot is superficial, but it is a romantic comedy anyway so it's supposed to be light inorder to serve its purpose of making the audience laugh and quiver.IfNicole Kidman and Julia Roberts, who were the original choicesaccording to IMDb.com, starred in the movie instead of the youngercast, I probably would've enjoyed the movie more.

All it's missing is a narration by its female lead

The problem with Disney Channel stars like Selena Gomez is they're apiece of product placement themselves. They almost come branded with aDisney logo on their forehead, and they present themselves like Disneyis always watching them, making sure they maintain the"pretty-girl-who-is-always-clean" persona every one of their actresseshas.Speaking of Disney Channel, I'm curious why this film was so special ithad to go theatrical. This is Disney Channel, ABC Family, TV show moviequality. Not summer blockbuster quality. Nothing in this film isremotely special for it to go theatrical. Some points I was trying topick and choose where commercials would've gone. This will likely endup on the network sometime in 2012. I'm sure parents might be forced bytheir eight year olds to watch this and I'm sure they'll think "I'mglad we didn't have to pay money to see this in the theaters." MonteCarlo is about Grace (Gomez), a teenage girl who has just graduatedHigh School, and plans to go on a big trip to Paris. She's been savingmoney for this trip for a while, but her step-dad (Cullen) announces atthe dinner table that he has paid for Grace, her friend Emma (Cassidy),and Grace's half sister Meg (Meester). The three girls go off to theirdestination, and realize soon after that the trip has been a bust. Thatis until Grace is mistaken for Cordelia Winthrop-Scott (also played byGomez), a British heiress. So the three girls now travel to Monte Carlowhere they are living someone else's life.No doubt that little girls still amused by Disney Channel's antics willfind this film perfectly acceptable, and Selena Gomez to be arole-model. For someone like me, this isn't the kind of film I findgood or unique. We also get contrived love stories for each of thethree girls, and this winds up feeling more like Sex and the City thana Disney Channel film. The message is "be yourself, not someone else" as if we hadn't heard itbefore, the soundtrack boasts bubblegum pop much like every otherteenage film, and by the end of the film nothing is learned from thegirls or even hinted that they even found what they did was wrong. Theysuffer no consequences. So instead of telling us to "be ourselves,"Disney is possibly saying "go ahead and lie about who you are and fakeyour identity, the consequences won't be as serious as long as you sayyou learned something." Most illogical.Monte Carlo's problem doesn't stem from the three leads. They arebeautiful women with lots of potential. The problem is that this isnothing short of cliché, nothing shy of Disney, and the fact that thisdoesn't attempt to morph its characters into recognizable human beings.I'm hoping one day Selena Gomez will ditch her Disney Channel persona, and hopefully, take on an acting career filled with drama roles andvery heartfelt comedies. Something of Judd Apatow maybe. But, as ofnow, she is stuck advertising for a network that lost its touch many, many years ago.Starring: Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, and Katie Cassidy. Directedby: Thomas Bezucha.

harmless entertainment

A young woman takes her dream vacation to Paris with her best friend and her step-sister. The trip doesn't go as planned, and then she is mistaken for a wealthy heiress. The three go on to connect with hunky guys and vacation in luxury. In the end, they may learn something about themselves. This is a harmless film that just about anyone can enjoy. It is predictable, and does not contain any great dramatic moments, but it has an attractive young cast and the movie's target audience of teenage girls will find it entertaining. I would recommend this one if you are in the mood for some lighthearted entertainment.

It works, for what it is, a vehicle for young Selena Gomez.

No one would mistake this film for a future classic. It is simple andsometimes silly, but for its target audience it works very well. Before I saw this movie I had very little exposure to Selena Gomez. Iknew vaguely who she was, and that is all. After watching the movie Icame away impressed. In actuality she has to play three roles. Thefirst is her character, Grace. The second is Grace pretending to besomeone else. And third, that other character. The last two may seem tobe the same, but they aren't. She has to play them all slightlydifferent to make it seem believable. And, I think she pulls it offvery well.Selena Gomez as Grace goes with her friend and her step sister toParis. But at one stop the tour bus that seems more intent on keeping aschedule than anything else leaves them. Then, Grace gets mistaken forher look-alike, a wealthy British girl Cordelia Winthrop Scott. Seeingthis as their way to get out of a pinch, she goes along with it andthey all end up in Monte Carlo. There the situations develop moreseriously.Mostly a fun movie, entertaining in a very light manner.

Stinketh

Boring! There is no action and certainly absolutely no plot. You would see more action by people watching anyone that passes by on any given sidewalk. This flick is yet another prince and the pauper ripoff, only with girls and they hardly never meet (No Character developement). There is a five minute plot halfway in about losing a necklace, but it's not worth producing a whole movie about. All you get really is just people walking around and talking.

Cute and enjoyable

This was a really cute movie probably aimed at teens. It was not meant to be high art, so I'm rating it for delivering a good job for what it was intended to be: a cute and well written story about 3 nice and likeable Texas girls, mostly set in wonderful, romantic European settings, and just a lot of fun overall. All three actresses were quite good and this was a nice afternoon escape film. It was nice to see a teen film that was pretty positive and wholesome for a change, not too old for its intended audience. I saw this in a theater mostly full of mid to late teen girls, and they all seemed to be enjoying it a lot.

THE NEW AND IMPROVED GIRLS ON VACATION FLICK

Remember when you were a kid (or for some of you as adults) when you'd watch the late show and see those movies about teens of college age kids heading somewhere for a fun vacation? It always seemed like Connie Francis, Jim Hutton, Paula Prentiss, Troy Donahue or Sandra Dee were heading to Florida or California to have fun in the sun. Inevitably someone fell in love, someone was hurt and life long romances followed. These were light and fluffy films that offered fun with a touch of drama and an occasional great theme song ("Where the Boys Are"?). MONTE CARLO is like one of those movies made for the current generation.Selena Gomez stars as Grace, a waitress who can't wait to get out of her one note town and discover the world. Living with her mother and step father is fine but she can't seem to get along with her step sister Meg (Leighton Meester) at all. In an effort to iron things out, their parents allow Grace to go on a vacation to France is Meg goes along. Neither is happy with this but it happens. Along with them goes Grace's best friend Emma (Katie Cassidy), a rough and tumble fellow waitress with dreams of romance and a boyfriend who just doesn't seem to get her.The three land in France only to discover that the brochure about their planned trip doesn't quite live up to it's promises. Cramped hotels and getting only seconds to look at the sights isn't what they expected at all. Accidentally separated from their group, they stop in a hotel where Grace is mistaken for Cordelia Winthrop Scott, a socialite snob of English nobility who treats people like dirt. Overhearing that she's sneaking off to meet someone and avoid the press, shrugging off the duties of her position, Emma convinces the girls to take her place with Grace impersonating her.The usual follows with them enjoying the high life and never having to pay for it all. Financially that is. Emma is treated to the interest of a wealthy man and his ways. Grace meets a man in charge of the auction her "character" is supposed to be a part of and falls in love and Meg meets the man of her dreams who makes her open up a bit. As with the old movies, some are setting themselves up for a fall while others will find happiness. In the end it's all good and things work out for the best. Okay that's not a spoiler so no reason for a warning. These movies always end the same and that's just fine. It's not the end result that comes into play here but the journey it takes to get there that makes them fun.All three actresses do a fine job here, making you believe that they are the naive girls who just want to sample the good life before heading home to their mundane lives. While the situations they find themselves in seem a bit over the top, it's all in good fun and that's what watching this is all about. Looking for something light, fluffy and fun? Then this movie is well worth the cost of rental.

Can't wait to see it.

The commercial made it look amazing and considering how much I loved Remona and Beezees this makes me excited. God bless.
