A Delightfull Summer FantasyPrivleged to see a "Sneak Preview" and sharing it with our grand chldren that "Nanny is back", we were disappointed that it has just now hit the theaters. Emma Thonoson does her magic an not only thr star, but writer & producer as well. The piglets were a beautiful example of mixing live action and CG. The "Bad Guys" - Were bad guys!Nanny's Basic rules for life were excellent examples for the children, and while their behavior was not always, what one would have wanted the points were made well. Great for just about any group of children, it could have adverse effects on that small group of children who have lost a parent in our recent conflits as it reflects on WW II in Great Britan - but does that in a tastefull way. Some of the older children may actually learn some history, stylized as it is, if their parents can identify it [good reason to take grandpa with you]. We enjoyed it for what it is - a whimsical tale for summer with real lessons for children. It will become a part of our library for grand children, when available on Blueray |

Good Open-Slow Mid-OK EndingGOOD OPEN -- With a "jumpstart" from the original Nanny McPhee, the excitement and anticipation from the first film gives you a good springboard to the opening, and the World War setting a believable and involving premiseSLOW MID -- One magic trick to the next gets you through the middle of the movie as do Emma Thompson, Maggie Smith, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Ralph Fiennes, but the continuing story was a little too slow and non-involvingOK ENDING -- although the ending was predictable, the return home of Ewan McGregor and undoing of his idiodic brother, Rhys Ifans, provided an enjoyable conclusion to this installment of Nanny McPhee |

Pink FloydNanny McPhee is a lovable movie for children. Most parents I know haveenjoyed the movie as much as the children. Usually the sequels aren'tas good but this is an exception. A remarkable scene is when NannyMcPhee and the 2 boys go to the head war office in Londen. When theyarrive in Londen, you can see an old factory with four chimney's in thebackground. As common in war time city's you could see anti aircraftballoons in the sky and one was shaped like a pig. This scene resemblesa famous cover of a Pink Floyd album called 'Animals'. One of thetracks on this album is 'Pigs on the wing'.The producer must be a big Pink Floyd fan. |

Nothing like a 2nd NannyThe Nanny McPhee films are wonderful. First off, this Return, is not just Pt II, it is volume II, and deals with many of the same issues, with others tossed in.In this case, our Nanny is called to help a young mother with three young'uns while her husband is away. Instead of matrimonial problems, there are gambling debts to be paid while lessons are learned. Problem solving with McPhee is thinking outside the breadbox, in fact, this franchise in the making could be a successful parenting/problem solving seminar. Parenting With Nanny McPhee..Magic in the Huddle (or something like that).Maggie Smith and Emma Thompson are a good pair for the film that makes this believable, entertaining, and educational (for consequence based parenting). My first look at the DVD cover reminded me of Bednobs and Broomsticks...both have magic, and a nanny who comes to rescue. This is a film that will be fondly remembered as one of the highlights of our generation. |

A Delightful MovieEmma Thompson did a great job as Nanny McPhee again. The make-up isexcellent! Miss Thompson is an attractive lady and the make-updepartment totally changed her for this role..good job there. All theactors did a great job in this film. The young actors worked togetherand made the movie seem real. The photography was great and the scenewith all the poop made me want to check my shoes. Funny...attentiongrabbing story about real people in tough times. I liked this movie! Ihope there is a Mcphee 3, 4, 5 etc. We need more films with thisquality and a message that means something. I guess the pigs werecomputer generated but they looked great...very realistic. |

This is the reason sequels should not be made!I and my family loved the first Nanny McPhee, so we were truly looking forward to this one. There were some entertaining and humorous bits but overall it was slow and kind of stupid. It felt as if this was a movie made for kids trying to entertain the adults. I would rent this but only if I didn't have to sit through it again! |

In 3 words, JUST PLAIN MAGIC.This review is from: Nanny McPhee Returns (DVD) I can't believe people didn't like this one as much. I love fantasy films and Nanny Mcfee Returns is a million times better than the first. The special effects were fantastic. People were saying their wasn't enough Nanny Mcfee in this film however she was through out the entire movies. If you don't like this movie you must hate fantasies. |

Well done sequelI loved the first movie and love Emma Thompson, so I was anxious to see this sequel and was not disappointed, nor were my children. The story takes place with a different family, but pulls aspects from the first family into this film. The lessons learned are the moral ethical lessons we all need to be reminded of. Courage, bravery, loyalty, sharing, forgiving, humor and humility are all there. There is a menagerie of animals and antics along with the most colorful of characters that will leave you delighted and tearful - I cried twice. My "8" and "10" year old loved this movie, so this is one we will purchase. Enjoy! |

Disappointing, lacked "child centered magic" of first filmFirst, I need to say we saw the first Nanny McFee film and loved it. Wewere hoping for the same charm in this film. Unfortunately, we found itlacking. We were quite ready to suspend reality and enjoy a magicalnanny, but we didn't find the movie to have the humor and generalupbeat styling we were expecting. This film seemed to be in a great hurry to finish all the lessons Nannywanted to teach without us ever knowing what they were. The lessonswere taught after one incident of naughty behavior. No one, not evenmovie kids, learn a life lesson in one episode! Part of the charm inthe first movie was that you were left to wonder if the lessons werelearned due to the children learning and living them or from the magicof Nanny McFee. In the second movie, there is no question that magichas changed behavior, not a realization of why this new behavior isproper.Less than half way through the movie, my 10 year old daughter leaned into me and said, "This one isn't funny like the first one, is it?" Shewas quite right, as a whole, this wasn't a funny movie. There was toomuch mean-ness and too many dire situations for it to be consideredfunny. This cast deserved better and Emma Thompson did not deliver a viablestory. Though I must say, we LOVED Maggie Smith's character and hersurprise revelation at the end. This movie on it's own ranks a 4 or 5, but this movie as a sequel ranksonly a 3. |

She comes when you need her the most and want her the least, and she leaves when you want her the most and need her the least.Emma Thompson is an artist of s many gifts that she defies categorization. In addition to being one of our best actresses of the day, she is also a very fine writer and not at all afraid of jumping into 'family movies' that bundle fun as well as sage advice. Her she has written and stars in NANNY MCPHEE RETURNS and lets hope this isn't her last visit.Nanny McPhee appears as a grotesquely ugly woman who arrives in households besotted with potential disasters and in the course of her manipulations of the microcosm that initiated the problems she has a sense of magic in reversing the behavior patterns of children and adults to bring about a happy ending to a crisis waiting to happen. This trip finds her visiting the farm of Isabel Green (Maggie Gyllenhaal) whose husband (Ewan McGregor) is off at war, leaving the care of the three children and the farm and life in general in her hands. Add to that the constant interference of Isabel's pestering brother-in-law (Rhys Ifans) and a battery of spoiled cousins and the madness of a misplaced bomb form the sky and Nanny has her hands full teaching the children not only how to cope but also how to behave in a manner that aids Isabel's survival. Maggie Smith joins this irrepressible cast and in the end it is difficult to judge what entertains most - the madness or the glee. Deep it is not, but it is one of those films you can slip into the telly and enjoy as much as an adult as the youngsters adore it. Fantasy, a bit of family drama, and a lot of fine lessons make this a fluffy movie nearly everyone can enjoy. Grady Harp, June 11 |

Good MovieThis review is from: Nanny McPhee Returns (DVD) We bought this for our 6 year old daughter after she fell in love with the first movie. While it isn't our favorite of the two, it was still good for kids that are too old to watch cartoon movies all the time. We would definatley recommend this movie. |

Good Family MovieA good movie for the family. You know it gonna be good with Emma Thompson and Maggie Smith. Look for the Pink Floyd "Animals" album cover in the motorcycling through London scene. You'll see the pig between the smoke stacks of the power plant. The director must be a huge PF fan. |
