Story Line

Plot Summary:

Archeology Professor Robert Burns is on location leading an important dig in the ancient ruins on the Far Eastern Chinese border. He accidentally discovers that the Chinese Mafia, the Tong, is using his newly discovered ancient Chinese artifacts to hide and smuggle narcotics across the border. Robert immediately tries to flee with his assistant and narrowly manages to escape the pursuing Tong but not without a heavy price. His loyal assistant is killed and he is framed with the evidence at the Chinese border by the Chinese military and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. He is locked up in a Chinese prison where he is guilty until proven innocent. His loving wife Maya vows to help get him out of jail. The DEA finally convinces the Chinese military that Robert may be of more help to them outside jail by leading them to the real smugglers. Once he leaves his Chinese prison cell Robert would rather enjoy his freedom back in the U.S. and keep his past behind him, but The Tong catches up to him and threatens not only his life but that of his wife. They threatened the wrong man. Secrets of Roberts past start to emerge as he unleashes his awesome martial arts fighting abilities to defend himself and his wife. Now that The Tong and their drug cartel know who he is they will stop at nothing to kill Robert to protect their own corrupt interests. To avenge the lives of loved ones he has lost, Robert must hunt down, pursue and find each of the Tong members. In a classic homage to Chinese martial arts films, he is involved in intense hand to hand combat including sword fighting, guns, car chases, and other ingenious forms of fighting to mame and kill these Tong members. He deciphers their ancient coded Tong tattoos which leads him to their don, Wong Dai- The Emperor the man who controls an empire of crime and corruption across many borders. As an added twist Robert discovers upon meeting Wong Dai, that the evil man himself has been manipulating our protagonist in order to have him kill Wong Dais own Tong members and thus, secure the ill gotten gains of Wong Dais empire of crime for himself.

WARNING. FOR MEN ONLY!!

Men have a place in their brains called the macho cortex (MC) buried inthelimbic system which, when sufficiently stimulated, turns us into droolingmorons with only two desires; survival and sex, not necessarily in thatorder. Most action flicks are designed to stimulate the MC by floodingoursenses with big, ugly dudes who are bad (we don't care why) and we wanttosee killed or luscious babes who are good (all babes are good, even badones) and we want to...well, you know. This parses as Big, ugly = bad,Babe= good. All we need is some kind of Rambo-like hero with whom we canidentify and, presto, we're there, vicariously getting off as we watchthehero (us) waste the bad guys while the babes swoon. The problems with the formula in Seagal's formula action outing "Out foraKill" are manifold. First, the hero, Seagal, doesn't fit the strong, silenttype paradigm because he looks like a porky zombie on ludes. Second, thehero is married and then quickly widowed. So, now we're stuck with aporkyzombie on ludes who is in mourning. Yuck! Thirdly, as Seagal trucksthrougha plot flatter than a saltine, there are no babes watching or waiting todrop their skivvies at the end. So, where's the prize? No respectableactionhero would go to so much trouble with no hotties watching and waiting.Hottie cop Goh is waiting at the end but she's a platonic thing becauseshecan't jump the hero since he's in mourning. Duh! Therefore, all thekillingis a needless, senseless waste of time, the MC never gets engaged, andwe, the men, are left with no reason to drool so boredom sets in and that's abad thing. (C-)

"Out For a Kill" Excellent

I watched the video clip from "Out For A Kill" !! This movie is EXCELLENT !!!!!!! Including too many fight scenes with Seagal, swords, throws etc. !! Steven Seagal looks handsome and nice !! My God this guy is really really wonderful action movie star !! He is real fighter(actually he is master of Aikido 7.dan), he is still the BEST MARTIAL ARTIST !!! Thank you very much Mr. Seagal for this beautiful movie you bringing us !! Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee Mr. Seagal keep up the excellent work with your movies and martial arts !!! We love you Sir,

(2012-04-26 19:04:40)

what are you thinking

O.k. lets get started by saying that if you buy this movie you are going to come back (out of your way) to write a horrible review about it. First off steven sucks he never was good he just had good action films. The guy can't act and can't read scripts. Let's just say that there is diffinatly no good acting in this movie (other then the DEA guy who acts like it is a porn they're filming), nor is there good action, humor, diolog, or suspence. It leaves you wondering "why the hell didn't he cut that awful mullet off?" Enjoy!!

Steven's best kick ass flick since Under Siege 2

Don't get me wrong, Steven Seagal has made some pretty good movies sinceUnder Siege 2 came out in 1995, but Out For A Kill completely takes theAikido battling ass kicker to the next level. Steven methodically andcompletely destroys each of the Chinese Tong assassins with awesome skilland coolness, akin to his early 90's days. But I must admit that I foundeven more joy in these battle scenes because the general public andHollywood has written Steven off as a serious action film star; can theybemore wrong. Steven totally dominates every scene he is in, even thosescenes when he is not engaged in deadly sword battles against twosamurais,or snapping assholes necks with the greatest of pleasure. Check outStevenwhen he goes to get a haircut and some Chinese assassin attacks himmimicking the moves and styles of Ray Park playing the Toad in X-Men.Steven has no problem dispensing with the mothereffer. For anyone readingthis, you must be at least a mild fan- please buy this flick. Don't rentit, because you'll want to watch it again and again. Nice flick. Thedemise of the bad guy boss is absolutely priceless, unexpected and veryfunny. At least I think so.Thanks for reading this.Rick Ford, # 1 Seagal fan, over and out.

Without a doubt, the worst film ever made.

This movie was horrific.I've seen movies that have bad directing. Movies with bad acting. Movieswith bad editing.Rarely have I come across a film with the worst acting, directing, editing, effects, sound and anything else that comes to minduntil I saw this unbelievably bad movie.I actually groaned in sheer pain from viewing this crap.I cannot believe that anyone would intentionally want their nameassociatedwith this film.Let us have a moment of silence.....I would like to say that it has gone on to a better place, but, alas, itpassed on without knowing salvation. Steven Segal's career has indeed gonestraight to hell!

Doesn't deserve any stars

First, I WAS a huge fan of Seagal, I love his first 6 movies or so. What's happened???? Don't know, don't care, but don't waste your money of this garbage he is putting out now. This movie was so pathetic I couldn't even finish watching it. I ONCE respected the fact that Seagal had legitimately studied martial arts in Asia and was an authentic martial artist. The martial arts in this movie are a FRAUD, a combination of a fat man moving poorly with camera tricks borrowed from the Matrix. This junk doesn't deserve a single star, it isn't worth the carboard box it comes in.

the only thing hes killing is his career :(

This had potential, the plot was similar to Out for Justice. Seagal loseseverything and goes to take revenge. Sadly it was nowhere near asgood. * Seagal looked dismal throughout (wheres his smile gone?), most of hislines were probably dubbed over after the scenes were shot because you couldnever see him talking. * In some scenes the clouds in the sky were speeded up (why?) it lookedlike something out of a horror movie. * At one point Seagal uses the Austin Powers method by asking the samequestion 3 times and getting an answer on the 3rd! * The main Triad Boss puts on a dodgy accent which made him sound like he'sdying, when I think he was supposed to be sinister or something! * There was more action then his latest films, but they were poorly filmedand the fight in the barber shop was a wirework joke.and theres loads of other bad points. If anyone likes cheesy action moviesthey dont come any cheesier then this!

Another awful Steven Seagal action flick.

Out for a Kill starts in China somewhere at an archaeological dig whereChinese archaeological expert Professor Robert Burns (producer StevenSeagal) is running things, however his crocked boss Sai Lo (Hon PingTang) is an international drug smuggler & using archaeologicalartefact's dug up by Burns has a nice line in drug smuggling going on.However Burns finds out that he & his dig is being used to smuggledrugs & isn't happy about it, he tries to escape to the border but thebad guy's shoot dead his pretty female assistant, then he is arrested &framed for the drug smuggling himself but is let free when twointernational DEA agents want to follow him in the hope he'll lead themto the big boss. Unfortunately the big boss doesn't want Burnscomplicating things so he has Burns wife blown up, big mistake becausethe bad guy's have framed him for drug smuggling, they killed hisassistant & now they have blown his wife up. Burns decides to dish outa little vengeance...This American Aruba co-production was directed by Michael Oblowitz & isyet another terrible straight-to-video/DVD Seagal action flick whichalmost defies words. The script by Dennis Dimster is simply terrible,Out for a Kill is one of those films which on paper sounds OK & is afilm you need to experience to get just how bad it is, nothing I writewill properly convey how bad this film is. The films as a whole isutterly predictable, it makes absolutely no sense, the character's areawful (Steven Seagal as a archaeological Professor? Ha, ha, ha, ha!)the plot is awful, the dialogue is awful, the pacing is awful, thenarrative is awful, the fights are awful & to try & illustrate howstupid it is for some bizarre reason all the bad guy's have tattoo's ontheir wrist's which when combined spell out some sort of crypticmessage & it's just hilariously bad & a real chore to sit through. Ihonestly don't know how to convince you that Out for a Kill is as badas I suggest, without actually seeing it which I don't recommend you'lljust have take my word for it & if you do decide to watch it don't sayyou weren't warned!Director Oblowitz does nothing to make this watchable, the plot is amess the use of slow motion is just annoying, there are random scenesof strippers which ordinarily wouldn't be a bad thing but here they areliterally just randomly inserted, the fights are poor with Seagal'sopponents doing all the fancy kicks & twirls only for Seagal to juststand there & when attacked just knock the guy out with the leastamount of fuss. What the hell is that guy who can crawl across wallsall about? The film also has the annoying habit of putting a caption onscreen to indicate the time & location which becomes irritating & isutterly pointless. The action scenes are poor, the film is unexciting &Seagal is just out of shape & too fat.Who on Earth keeps giving $20,000,000 to Seagal to make a film? I don'tknow if that figure offered up by the IMDb is correct but there's noway this looks like it had 20 big ones spent on it, it's terrible & theCGI computer effects shots look awful. Shot in Sofia in Bulgaria. Theacting is awful although Michelle Goh is a pretty hot looking chick.Seagal mumbles his way through the film as usual & is terrible asusual.Out for a Kill is an awful action film that isn't unintentionally funnyenough to to be watchable, it's hard to explain in words how bad thisfilm is. Not recommend even to Seagal fans if any still exist.

Out to lunch

In the 90's Steven Seagal was an action hero we could depend on. Heentertained us in such great films as "Hard to Kill", "Marked for Death" and"Under Siege". Now he seems content to give us direct to video dreck like"The Foreigner". It seemed that film was the lowest he could sink but "Outfor a Kill" proudly steps up to the plate to take thathonor. In the film Seagal plays Robert Burns, an archeologist who, althoughspends most of his time in dusty caves searching for lost aritifacts, dresses in leather jackets and jeans. Burns discovers that some Triads areusing artifacts to smuggle drugs. Before he can dob 'em in they kill hisassistant and frame him. Of course they messed with the wrong man, or didthey? Burns seems content just to get let out of prison. It's not til thebumbling Triads come and annoy him and blow up his wife that he getsannoyed. Cue the ridiculous fight scenes and plotting. Seagal looks downright bored in this film. And so he should. The script isawful and makes him deliver some of the lamest lines in film history thenthere's the action. In one sequence Seagal fights some monks at a funeralwith a wobbly, very fake looking sword then he has a fight with a monkey manand kills him too quickly then he fights all the poeple who wronged him andkills them, all too quickly. In between bouts of poorly executed actionthere's some very atrocious special effects that most teenagers couldreplicate in their PC's. If this film cost $20 million someone got robbed. I know Seagal must be on the dark side of fifty but he could still dobetter than this flick. If there's some nice man who works at a studioplease give him a decently budgeted movie to topline. There's still life inhim but there ain't much of that in "Out for a Kill"1 out of 5.

I'm sure i wasn't hallucinating! But hey! it sure felt like it.

TjeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezNormally i don't have any problems setting my IQ to 20, relax down in thebench and see a B-Movie. But "Öut for a kill" is very confusing there arehuge gaps between allot of scene's. Lot's of strange backgrounds/flasheswhich didn't made sence. Maybe i go re-see this movie and eat somehallucinating mushrooms, maybe than i get the point of this crappystory. The only great thing about Öut for a kill is! that it isnt "Half PastDead"with annoying Ja Rule & Kurupt participating in the cast. Please hire Seagal with an average cast and budget! All You : B :Directors,Writers, Producers are making the real Seagal FANS sick!

Bad beyond belief

I'm a card-carrying Steven Seagal fan (and have taken much abuse for it) but even I know that this movie is a dog. While no masterpiece his other flick from this period "The Foreigner" is much better. One can only hope that he slims down and ups the action for Under Seige 3 otherwise even long time hard-core fans such as myself won't even risk a rental on his movies in future.

(2012-03-30 22:23:34)

Actually, not that bad.

On reflection this is a lot better than last year's "The Foreigner". Ithasa basic plot, and better acting. Still not very good, but not as bad as Isaid earlier. The baddies are more obvious, and the reason for thefighting(vengeance) is much more up Seagal's street.

(2012-03-30 06:23:16)

What is this?

I can't make any sense out of this film at all. The only highlight is a martial artist using monkey gung-fu. I'm a Seagal fan who is still waiting for him to make a come back. I admired & respected his environmental-awareness films (Fire Down Below, On Deadly Ground, The Patriot).

Mother Theresa in a gangbang! What is this???

Either Steven Seagal has absolutely NO self-respect or the Mob werejust too damn scary for him when it came to signing the contract forthis total pile of crap. They couldn't even be bothered to come up with an good title. Insteadthe took Hard to Kill and Out for Justice and combined them (Hard toJustice?). But don't even think for one minute that this film is up tothe standards of Seagal's golden years. You'll NEVER see anything worsethan this. Well, Son of the Mask maybe.Seagal plays an archaeologist (well, it's a change from Cop or ex-CIA)who's precious Chinese artifacts and pots are seized by the Tong (thenon-threatening Chinese Syndicate baddies) and stuffed with brown sugar(or cocaine, I don't know). Big Steve stumbles upon this dastardly deedand takes off for the Uzbekistan border. A hundred baddies come out ofnowhere and start firing at him.Big Steve is promptly framed and sent to jail, where he meets acharacter introduced as his new sidekick but is quickly forgotten aboutand never seen or heard from again. What the hell was the point inthis? It turns out that Steve used to be in the CIA (oh for the love ofcrumb cake) and was their best ghost thief (huh?) and the DEA releasehim for some reason and he goes home to his quiet American suburb, where the Tong blow up his wife and house.Steve goes on a killing spree. But what helps is that every Chinamanwho's neck he breaks has a one-word tattoo on his arm that when addedup makes an ancient Chinese proverb that provides the right order oftiles to push in case of fire in the Tong bosses office. What? Don'tlook at me! I didn't write this! The bad guys don't do anything apartfrom sit at a long table in a poorly-lit and cold-looking room andsmoke cigars while looking evil. The boss isn't even Chinese but an IanHislop-lookalike with bushy eyebrows. Every 10 minutes the film willjump to them (subtitles list their hobbies and interests for somestrange reason!) and the boss goes 'We have to stop him, he knows toomuch'.The fight scenes are horrible. What is the deal with the kung-fu monkeybarber? Seriously! What is the deal with that? The computer-generatedeffects are the worst ever (second to Son of the Mask, nothing willbeat that in terms of terribleness). I've seen more convincing stuff ona ZX Spectrum.Seagal puts NO effort into this film. He looks incredibly boredthrough-out and looks like he'd rather be praying to Budda. However, you can almost see Frankie Fingers from The Mob loitering off-camera,pointing a gun at his head. I know I wouldn't show enthusiasm if thatwere the case.Out for a Kill is directed by Mike Oblonglowiscz, the same amateurresponsible for the equally as horrible The Foreigner. The man has NOidea how to make films and should never be allowed near a camera again. He desperately tries to mime Michael Bay (a dubious choice ofinspiration) with his pointless stutter-cuts and incoherent editingwhich only makes the film look worse, turning it into an avalanche ontop of another avalanche. It's quite possibly one of theugliest-looking film you'll ever see. Considering some of thehigh-profile and veteran production members it's phenomenal they made afilm so indescribably bad.Eternal, everlasting shame on all those involved with making thistrash. Utter crap of the lowest order. The DVD is in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, showing off the uglyphotography and poorly planned camera angles in all their rubbishyglory. The Dolby 5.1 soundtrack also turns the films unbelievably badsound design into pure torture for the ears. The cover also features 2exploding helicopters. There are no helicopters in the entire film, never mind exploding ones.

My number one

I'm writing this while I'm watching the movie. After 10 minutes I alreadyhad the feeling that we were watching the worst movie of this year. Tenminutes later we knew it for sure. That's when I went to IMDB to see ifthismovie actually got the rating we were thinking about. At this moment therating is 3.3 and it's too high. The scene with 'our hero' in the planeandthe agents on the ground is ..... I really have no words for it, this istoomuch for me and the rest. No more Seagal ever again. This is my number onemovie, number one on the list of the worst movies of thisyear.

There should be a law against a movie this bad

One can usually find some redeeming aspect even in the worst of movies. Notso in the case of Steven Seagal's latest offering, `Out for a Kill'. Thismovie is bad from start to finish. Horribly acting, terrible dialog, repulsive plot and even worse set design, one couldn't make a film as bad asthis on a bet. Even Seagal's fight scenes are poorly choreographed. Ofcourse, one might expect this, as Mr. Seagal is getting older and hisfighting skills are eroding; very very quickly. This movie reminds me of one of those 60's/70's Chinese martial arts movies;the ones where the actor's lips move, and then ten seconds later, you hearhis voice. That's how bad it is.If one's life depended upon finding some positive note to this film, itwould be Michelle Goh who plays Tommie Ling, an undercover DEA agent whoseems to follow Seagal's character around the world trying to collect enoughevidence to put an end to the `evil cartel'. Ms. Goh is a very attractivewoman, and that's the only high point in the movie.Steven Seagal's movies seem to be getting worse and worse as time goes by. But this movie is an all time low even for him. In fact, there should be alaw passed against making movies as bad as this. Steven, perhaps it's timeto do us all a favor and think about retirement. If you see this movie in your local video store, don't even think about it,just keep on walking.

(2012-03-18 23:14:13)

Not what I expected!

I have always been Steven Seagal fan, couldn't wait to see them all! But this movie had to be Steven at his worst. It jumped around from scene to scene, sometimes to leave you wondering what in the world was going on. It was hard to figure out exactly who was doing what. It couldn't hold our interest, and we found ourself dozing off. We actually stopped this movie before it was over. I won't be buying THIS movie to add to my Seagal collection!

Seagal went out and killed his career

Can he sink any lower? Probably yes, because at the rate he is goingturning back is going to be very hard. It was after Exit Wounds thatSeagal started his nose dive which has yet to end. Half Past Dead was agood step up from Ticker, but it still was only OK. Now we arrive at......this horrible film. It contains a bland to the max story ofvengeance on the people who killed Seagal's wife. Some of the scenesare also so overly and ridiculously dramatic that you'll cringe. AndSeagal, in this film, plays Seagal. That's right, he plays himself. Hejust shows up on screen pretending to be a professor and the audienceexpects him to start fighting with people soon and that's what happens. No character development to speak of just mundane fights one afteranother. The bad guys are really stupid and just sit around a tablesomewhere. One by one they disappear and we are led to believe thatthey among the films body count. Does that sound dumb and confusing?Well that's because it is. 2/10Rated R: violence and profanity

Great Martial Arts by Steven Seagal like ALWAYS!!! So you guys better vote good for it. Cannot believe vote results, REALLY! :-(

The story of this movie appears very mystical, BUT it all has its senseand IS presented on purpose I mean! This flick is about Asianphilosophy such as many other ones with Steven Seagal. To understandhim and to find out what's so fascinating about his movies, I think, you have to try to understand his own philosophy. Steven Seagal isgreat actor. Please nobody ever forget what he's done for his country. He is great and famous warrior. He can fight for real. He cannot showall his skills at once and in one movie, otherwise he had to terminateeverybody who sees it ;-) As you might consider, I'm a veryenthusiastic fan of Mr. Seagal!
