It is worth the watch

If you have seen the first film then it is much better. I'd say it ismore jumpy than scary. It does get a little scary as you get deeperinto it.People argue to say that, it didn't really show much... but if theyshowed to much for the paranormal activity, it would lose the supposed'real life' feel to it. You had to see them living their lifenormally,as well as the parts where the paranormal activity wasoccurring.I liked it.. it freaked me out a little, but it is the jumpy scenesthat make it kinda fun to watch.I would say, go see it... it is worth it.If you didn't like the first film then I'm not sure whether you wouldbe convinced... I give all films the benefit of the doubt, and the twofilms were a good watch in my opinion.

This movie sucked. Just watch the first one.

I saw this bad film today because I loved the first one so much andgosh, this movie was trash. What a let down! I was so bored. When theaudience you see it with is laughing at the scary parts and are yawningand sighing through out the film, that is never a good thing and I wasdoing it right with them and looking at my watch a little too oftenbecause I was beyond bored......It was a gag movie. It was no different then someone coming upbehind you and going "BOO!". That's all it was through out the movieand they took WAY too long to get to the action whereas the first gotright into it.All this movie did was rehash the stuff we saw in the first one, onlythis just sucked. All and all, it's just another bad sequel.

Paranormal Activity 2 didn't fix what wasn't broken!

Mitch Hansch/ movieswithmitch.com THEY DID IT!!! I'm amazed, theyactually succeeded in releasing a successfully terrifying follow up tothe 2009 surprise break-out smash hit, "Paranormal Activity", whichgrossed over $193 million worldwide on the anemic budget of just $15G's. They delivered a white-knuckle film worthy of carrying the nameof, and I don't say this lightly, one of my top ten scariest films ofall time. "They" being director Tod Williams who takes over for OrenPeri who is now a producer this time around. "Paranormal Activity 2" isa spine-tingling success. It may not reach the fright level of theoriginal due to the novelty of that one but by the end of "PA:2" it isan event to behold, that is, if you can hold it.Horror films are the least critically successful genre but when doneright they are the most rewarding. To be authentically scared (andscarred) at the movie theatre is something that becomes sparse with ageand so must be savored like a fine wine. You may pooh-pooh 2009's"Paranormal Activity" but that film scared the Christian in to me (morethat I already am). I couldn't look down my hallway for six monthswithout whispering a little prayer and I can think of no biggercompliment to give a director of a horror film.Sequels are even harder to do but rest assured this is no "Blair Witch2". I shouldn't say sequel but in fact the brilliant idea of prequel, starting "PA:2" three months before the first film ended. Katie (KatieFeatherston) and Micah (Micah Sloat) are back but in smaller roles asthis time around we follow Katie's similarly evil spirit plagued sisterKristi (Sprague Grayden) and her family which includes husband Daniel(Brian Boland), step daughter Ali (Molly Ephraim), Martine the nannywho knows something's up, baby Hunter and the family dog who know evenmore but are both unable to speak. After Kristi's house is mysteriously broken into, a six camera 24-houraround the clock security system is set up. What a simple smart deviceto record all the bumps in the night to come. Like the first film, TodWilliams keeps the pace deliberately very slow, using repetitious shotsof the humdrum house which inches up tension brick by tensefreaky-deaky brick. Shots held on pots and pans or a pool-cleaning unitbecome sinister without anything happening. Until sinister stuff doesstart happening when the viewer is rewarded for keeping their eyespeeled on the screen at all times (if they can) and on all four cornersof the screen. The scares are more frequent and more sustained in"PA:2" and the goose bumps stay on high alert for the last 15 minutes, fantastically giving a better climax than the first. Some of what works for "PA:2" also can take away. Brian the dad, isjust the right amount of much needed humor but is basically a carboncopy of Micah from the first film as the wise cracking successful malewho's the last one to believe. Maybe Katie and Kristi just have thesame taste in men as the added lore invented for this film hints to.All in all, it didn't really bother me as "PA: 2" didn't try to fixsomething that wasn't broken, using the strengths of the first film andheightening them."Paranormal Activity 2" is the perfect scream inducing, hair standingup on the back of the neck, grab the person next to you film for theseason. Let's just hope I can walk down my hallway again.Let's just hope for "this".Psalms 106:35-37 Mitch Hansch/ movieswithmitch.com

This movie sucked. Just watch the first one.

I saw this boring sequel today because I loved the first "ParanormalActivity" so much, but the sequel was pure trash. What a let down! Iwas so bored. When the audience you're seeing it with is laughing atthe scary parts and are yawning and sighing through out the film, thatis never a good thing and I was doing it right along with them andlooking at my watch a little too often because I was very bored. It was a gag movie. It was no different then someone coming up behindyou and going "BOO!". That's all it was through out the "scary" partsof the movie. It might scare preppy teenage girls, and perhaps that istheir target audience, but as a horror movie-watching veteran, I wasnot in the least scared. The film also took WAY too long to get to that point of when we theaudience are suppose to be scared, whereas the first got right into it.In the sequel, there would be shots of random places in the house, butthen it never delivered the scary stuff. It spent way too much timetrying to build up to the scary stuff. It was pretty much like watchingsome stranger's home videos for a few hours. I also understand thatperhaps the makers of the film were just attempting to introduce thecharacters to the audience so we get to know them more, thus care aboutthem more, but again, I felt way too much time was spent on that, andthen I didn't think much of the characters because I didn't find themfunny, or entertaining, nor was there anything about them that causedme to pity them, and overall, I could not relate to them much, and theywere easily forgettable after the film was over.I've read some people reviews about this film where they claim to hatethe first one, but love the second one, and I can see why some peoplemay feel that way - It's because this is the highly censored andG-rated verison of the first Paranormal Actvity because all this moviedid was rehash the stuff we saw in the first one, only this just suckedbecause it was never scary. At not least scary to anyone who watches alot of horror films. All and all, it's just another bad sequel that was only made becausethe first one made a lot of money. The sad part is, as long as peoplekeep going to see these movies, the studio is going to continue to makethem, because they are very cheap to make, and they bring in millionsof dollars. The writers are not even trying to be creative either. Atleast with the Saw films for example, they made an effort to bringsomething fresh to the story, but Paranormal Activity 2 just completelycopied everything from the first film, but with less scares. Just awatered down, made for ABC-TV Family movie verison of the firstParanormal Activity. In the closing, this film was one of the biggest disappointments I'veever seen.

Fans of the first should be pleased

The first film has quite the reputation now and has topped many"Favorite Scary Movie" lists. The plot, characters, and effects werequite simple, but they made the terror "real" and all the more scaryfor the viewers. This time around, they've upped the ante with a bigger cast, moresuspense, and more hair-raising scares. The same filming style worksgreat again, if not better, and the effects are even creepier.I'll spare setting you up with the general plot, and leave you with onepiece of advice. I left slightly unsatisfied because I made the mistakeof viewing one too many "Paranormal Activity 2" trailers. Do your bestto change the channel when a PA2 commercial is coming on, for some ofthe scenes in these commercials didn't quite make it into the finalcut. And some of those scenes, however brief they were in the trailer, were ones I couldn't wait to see in the movie. After finishing, and notseeing them at all, I was a tad bitter. I'll try not to let that get in the way of my thoughts on this movie, but, after seeing what I've seen, and then seeing the movie, I can'thelp but feel they could have done just a little bit more to go theextra mile and cement this film as one of the greatest of all time.If you go in with no prior knowledge, no idea what to expect aside fromsomething similar to the first movie, you'll have a blast.

If you enjoyed the first you will enjoy this

Paranormal Activity 2 is more or less the same as the first movie, thedifference being it's more of a play on the storyline itself.Given the movie has to make up a excuse to have the cameras set up soit can continue in the same fashion as the first, the movie gets it setup pretty quickly and moves into setting the story. One thing I found though, it does take awhile to set up the story.Painfully we wait so the story is virtually spelled out for us, butonce things start to get interesting it keeps the pace up.The acting is OK, I guess the actors have to work with what they aregiven, but the casting was pretty good. The effects were a step up considering the budget was bigger this time, but i feel they could still have done better, like in terms oforiginality. All in all though, I read other comments about movies like this wherepeople say "worst film ever" or "Totally fake", but I mean it's ahorror movie, of course it isn't true, we watch movies to escape fromreality. And it is not the worst film ever either.I gave it a 6/10, which some may consider generous, only for the factthat I don't nit pick everything, I just sit down and watch with mycoke and pop corn. The Bad: Storyline is predictable and childish. The Good: The acting ispretty good considering and the last 15 mins.

Not as Great as the first one but still worth it

I have to say after the first 30 minutes of this film I was already pissed off, because I didn’t know the twist this movie had in store. After 30 minutes it starts to make more sense and becomes a little more enjoyable. I think it was very risky trying to make a sequel for this movie but overall it passed. The frightening scenes were just as suspenseful as the first movie but not as great. The one thing I give cheers for is how they were able to make a sequel going back in time and fit it in perfectly to the first one. If you enjoyed the first Paranormal then you will definitely enjoy this one…. But don’t expect it to be as great as the first one. There were times I would look around the movie theater and the faces people had of suspense and anxiousness where priceless, definitely a movie worth seeing at a theater. If you didn’t like the first one than you will not like this one either!

More of the same, in a good way

Ok, heres the problem I have with people criticizing this movie, they didnt vary that much. All the people who trolled the review sites with the first one trying to be creative with the dialogue to their empty insults no longer have a leg to stand on because they knew what to expect. It wasnt a sequel where you could say they ruined the first one, like Scream, it was a literal elaboration of the first movie. This one had just as much to offer as the first one, they just divided it up into different portions. The casual scenes were funnier and contained dialogue actually worth listening to which served as a misdirection to further dramatize the effectiveness of the scary scenes. They put more shock value on the individual scenes, then slowed the pace of the movie which ultimately led to a higher anxious anticipation of what was to come. Each explosive scene in the second completely outdid that of the first. And while in the back of your head you kinda knew how it was gonna end, it was just so messed up that you refused to believe it until you actually seen it. The ONLY reason the first had a chance at being scarier is because you werent familiar with the story yet. They put way more of an explanation to the story and somehow managed to do it without being cheesy. If you didnt like the first, then avoid this. But if you like the documentary horror genre then you should definitely check it out.

Loved it

This review is from: Paranormal Activity 2 (DVD) I loved this movie. I was a huge fan of the first one which I consider a classic. When I heard a sequel had been made I tried not to expect too much, maybe that's why I wasn't disappointed. I won't bother giving a summary of the movie, as alot of the other reviews have done that already. I thought that the supernatural happenings started alot sooner than in the original and happened alot more frequently. I love the way tension is built through the buzzing / rumbling sound which can be heard every time something is going to happen. There were several times where I yelled out loud.I think to enjoy this movie you have to forget about how good the first one is. Don't have fantastically high expectations and you won't be disappointed.

Skip this one...if you are on the fench

PA2 is a weak prequel/sequel and delivers very little in every area. The storyline is simple and provides as few details as possible. For instance, what's going on down in the basement? No explanation is provided and you are left clueless. The makers introduce some new and interesting characters but fail to develop and adequately use (I loved the housekeeper angle but she was fired). There are few scares here, but be warned, there is one in the kitchen that will make you jump out of your skin. The big problem here is this is a prequel/sequel and you've seen it all before. It's a quick 'cash-in' sequel that does not tamper with the formula behind the success of PA. For me it wasn't as good the second time around (even the ouija board is back). I found the constant shifting from one camera angle to another a major distraction for me. In closing, I found PA2 to be amateurish and magnified by the film's many shortcomings. If you are on the fench about buying this one rent it first. I think you will thank me later.

Like the first only not as good

Paranormal Activity, which I rated a 6/10 on IMDb, was a pretty decentsuspenseful movie - it wasn't scary whatsoever but it did hold myattention and thrill me with the unknown since there was no way ofknowing how the film would end, what the climax of the haunting wouldbe - So.. Paranormal Activity 2? Same ole stuff only not as goodbecause it's already been done before, hence my 5/10 rating.I could have done without the religious undertones what with thehousekeeper chanting stuff while walking around with some incense &then the ridiculous scene where a wooden cross apparently makes apossessed character recoil- b/c it has magical powers I guess.Ugh..it's just a piece of wood. Housekeeper came off like psychoticreligious freak and the wood having powers b/c it was shaped like across was utter lunacy.Paranormal Activity 2 wasn't really scary but it was suspenseful andthrilling just like the first. However, unlike in the first movie whereMika vigilantly checks the footage recorded in the home on the look outfor any weird behavior, this new family, despite setting up camerasthroughout, seem content with barely checking anything and it drove menuts. Something would happen to someone. There was doubt that saidperson was telling the truth. Cue to no one checking the camera footageto prove if said thing happened or not. The footage was checked attimes but not nearly as much as it should have been. It was ridiculous- cameras are there, check them to see if things happened in your houseeither while you weren't home or if something weird happened. Ugh.I am assuming PA3 will be made but I don't know what it could possiblybe about - the story about what exactly happened to Katie/Kristi whenthey were little as well as what happened to their Mother is what needsto be told but unfortunately the camera style of PA won't work sinceback then, people didn't really have video camera systems and if theydid they were grainy & black and white. Hand held cameras were huge andpeople certainly didn't record their everyday activities 24/7 so goodluck PA people in coming up with something decent.Lastly - I cared more about the dog, Abby, then I did about anyone elsein that house. Not really sure what that says about the film, or me.

In my opinion a waste of money & a let down

*Spoilers* Okay so I was so excited to see this movie. What a let down.I mean it wasn't horrible but no where near as good as the first one. Ithought the movie was boring for like the first hour. There weren'tvery many scary parts. Half the time you are waiting and watching onthe screen for something to happen and nothing usually does. In thismovie they use the noises more to scare you than the visual. The badparts included staring at a pool for at least 10 mins of the movie. Ituses the opening door and shadow parts like the first one. Other thanthat the climax is the like the best part. And its not worth it to sitthere for an hour and half to see 2 or 3 good parts. I would saywaiting for the DVD. It really does suck to be so excited to see the2nd one because the 1st one was so good and to just walk out of thetheatre saying yeah... it wasn't that great. I just have to say tho itwasn't that bad of a movie. At least they tried... It needed to be morecreepy. By the way the baby in the road or whatever and the part whereKatie is standing in the baby's room didn't make it to the actual film.Paranormal Activity is way better than Paranormal Activity 2 !

...and you thought scary stuff happened ONLY when you sleep!

Last year, the horror phenomenon Paranormal Activity was released. Thefilm was probably one of the most polarizing films of the year: Somethought it was scary as hell, others thought it was boring and likehome videos. I, personally, side with the "scary as hell" side andloved it enough to file it under my "Best Movies of 2009" list. Itreminded me of WHY we watch horror films: to feel fear and dread, to bescared and not watch people get killed in gory ways or having crap jumpout at you. There were a few jumps but the film was tension fueled, which made it brilliant. Now a year later, and a sequel is released. And thankfully, it managesto be just as great, and maybe even more terrifying!!! I swear withthese movies, the horror genre has some hope left. In a world of craplike My Soul To Take (I didn't want to waste a long amount of timeranting so I wrote a review of MSTT in poem format), jump fueled PG-13horror and gore/torture porn, for once we're getting horror movies thatare not only ACTUALLY scary, but follow the rule that Hitchcock set upwhen he was making movies: the scariest aspect is what we don't see. This film takes place 62 days before Micah Sloat died. A new family isthe focus, and the mother, Kristy, is Katie's sister. They seem happy,as they have a beautiful daughter Ali, and a CUTE baby boy Hunter. Thefamily has been experiencing a series of what could be calledbreak-ins. We see ONE aftermath of them- and the house looks like atornado blew through it- broken beer bottles, stuff broken, thingsscattered everywhere, etc. The family then resorts to hiring asurveillance team to install a series of cameras around the house, incase any suspicious activity happens. However, these clearly are no break-ins. Martin, the Spanish maid, hasa spooky experience one night when a giant thump reverberates throughthe kitchen. Things get even spookier when Ali gets locked out of thehouse, and some even creepier stuff happens too, one involving thebaby. And then, from there... things go from creepy to downrightTERRIFYING. The same demon that haunted Micah Sloat and KatieFeatherston is haunting them. But DOUBLE as scary, and to the pointwhere you can't take the scariness anymore.I was worried this film would not live up to its predecessor, but thankGod that worry proved useless. I loved it just as much as ParanormalActivity the first one. Sure the scares are recycled, but they did thatfor a reason- the same demon is haunting them. That means the householdthe demon haunted is off to do his tricks to the next household, which,if you ask me, makes it all the more scary to think about. Like thefirst, this one follows the Hitchock rule. But from the "Kitchen"scene, the terror level increases. the film thereon becomes disturbingas hell and just downright terrifying.Another thing I must praise is that this movie manages to bring a newelement to the series- the feeling of being alone, and experiencing aterrifying moment not just at night but at all times of the day. The"kitchen" scene is a good example of this- in fact that scene alonemade the movie more effective than the first. Ever had those momentswhere you have been alone in your home, and somehow knew you weren'talone? That an unseen presence is with you? That something can happenat any time? This movie focuses on that in the same fashion the firstmovie focused on what happens when you sleep. In short, Paranormal 2 is a success, and proof there is still hope forthe horror genre. If you liked this one, give it a chance, and even ifyou didn't like the first, still give it your best shot. I certainlyloved it as much as the first, and it also must be seen on the bigscreen- whereas the first worked better at home, this must be seen atthe theatre with a packed crowd like I saw it tonight. Recommended forsure, and be prepared to be scared out of your mind!!!

Considering the Paranormal Activity Handy-Cam Genre it's pretty darn good! Get your Screamers On ;-)

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 – CATCH IT ( B- ) Who Knew Paranormal Activitywill become a Legend like Friday the 13th, A Night on Elm Street,Halloween and Scream? But luckily for the makers it Did! The phenomenaled me to watch the first installment which at the time I was littledisappointed (Maybe I saw in pieces that's why) but later on afteryears of listening about it. I also started to believe that there wasindeed something natural about Paranormal Activity, which we rarely seein other movies. Last night I saw Paranormal Activity 2 and this time Itry to watch it Uninterrupted, so I can feel the terror the family isfeeling in the movie & luckily I felt the terror. The most horrifyingscenes in the movie was involving the baby in it, those scenes reallygave me chills. The New cast "Katie's Sister's family" Brian Boland (Dad), SpragueGrayden (Mom, Katie's sister), Molly Ephraim (Katie's Step-Niece) &Seth Ginsberg (Molly's BF)"were good but Unrealistic at times. And notas real and engaging as Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat were inParanormal Activity. This time Katie & Micah gave cameo appearance inthe movie and did came time to time but the thing I missed the most wasKatie Featherston's Screams & Micah's Charm. Overall, Considering theParanormal Activity Handy-Cam Genre it's pretty darn good! Get yourScreamers On ;-)

Dull

I had not seen the first one of these films and i will not be watchingthe third one that's for sure. Do yourselves a favour and skip thefirst 70 minutes of this movie; better still, do yourselves a biggerfavour and don't even put in the DVD player in the first place.Unfortunately i have to write 10 lines to be able to post this review.I find it very hard indeed to write a 10 line review on this movie asit's just so dull and boring to watch. One thing i did notice is theysay this cost £3 million to make it. Oh come on, this could have beenmade for the price of 3 cheap video cameras and the actors wages forone day. oh yes and the hiring of the acting dog, she was good.

A Great Sequel

This review is from: Paranormal Activity 2 (Unrated Director's Cut Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) Although this was not nearly as scary as the first film, this is honestly one of the best sequels I have ever seen. It incorporates aspects from the first film and goes more in depth into the past of the demon that haunts the family. It is a must-watch for any Paranormal Activity fans out there.

Are you kidding me?

This movie is a joke, really... in the middle of it you can hear theproducers laughing at you and saying: "ahahaha, thank you for yourmoney you idiot!". The commercial ads opening the movie were way moreinteresting, I heard a lot of people complaining during the projectionand some people left the theater before it ended. It is slow, annoyingas hell, repetitive (I think the main character of the story is thepool robo-cleaner), and when I say that *nothing* happens until thelast 20 minutes, I actually mean that NOTHING happens until that time..and when that time finally comes........... well.... it sucks, like therest of the movie. Finally you leave the theater room, with the feeling of have beenkidded by a bunch of greedy, money-thirsty, soulless movie producers...

Lawsuit should happen here! This is a joke of a home video stealing money from the public!

It is truly PATHETIC how Blockbuster could actually carry this movieand actually help the jerks who created this pile of crap become richoff of the stupidity of others! This is nothing but a really stupidBoring home video (yes every single creep in American who wants to makemoney off of others stupidity can create your own with your own superold camcorder)!I would rather watch my ex husbands boring elk homevideos rather then this boring family! My nine year old could have hada much better imagination with his camcorder! No one wants to see your stupid dog, stupid baby, stupid kids, this isso infuriating to me, that this even made redbox or blockbuster!!! Remember that stupid lawsuit against McDonalds for them actually makingtheir coffee hot?? well someone needs to sue Blockbuster and everyperson involved in scamming the American public with this home videocrap!!!

Who would've thought that a trick like this would work a second time?

Paranormal activity 2, the prequel of paranormal activity althoughreleased after its sequel initially works. That's as much credit as Ican give the film. With each thud you're going to skip a heartbeat. Itconvinces you that while dying might be bad, living with intense fearis worse. The constant wave like noise gets under your skin and tellsyour instincts that something terrible is about to happen. I've coveredthe first half hour of the film. The remaining hour is a spoof of thefirst half hour. The ghost turns hospitable by opening and closingdoors, but when it doesn't receive the "Thank you" that's due, it burnsa man's testicles. When the teenage girl tries communicating with theghost, the ghost starts flirting with her by saying that he wantspussy. And a hat. Since she doesn't respond positively, he wakes her upby whispering her name in her ear. Not very imaginative, is he? Fromhere on, he goes on a series of pranks with locking her outside andtriggering a false fire alarm when she's making out with her boyfriendin the pool. Here's the twist- it's not a ghost, it's a DEMON. The head of the houserefuses to acknowledge the demon's existence. Now, the sensitive demonfeels insulted. The increasing anger of the demon drives the remaininghalf hour of the film. From here on, it works neither as a comedy noras a horror. The film throws sucker punches by banging open every doorthat could possibly be opened, when you're expecting the frying pan tofall on the wife's head. The characters are not believable. Thecharacters hold on to the camera even when the certainty of their livesis suspended by a thin thread. There's more chemistry between thecamera and the people who feel it up than between the husband and thewife. To make up for that, the demon's character is well developed. Hesuffers from identity crisis. But the people in the house don't knowthat, do they? So they assume that talking about the demon would justenrage him further. How close it all came to never happening! From here on, it's hilarious. The dog gets tossed from one corner tothe other, you can't be sure if it got humped just before, because thedemon's invisible, but it certainly seems so. This scene in particular,is rib crackling especially for PETA activists. Of course, the pets arealways killed first. The screenwriters have obviously seen FatalAttraction and Cape Fear. The film ends like the first one, witheveryone dying. The Demon is a wrestling fan; it performs a chokeholdon the husband, a choke slam on the wife and walks away with the baby(an allusion to the golden belt). Why the baby? Apparently, some oldhag in his ancestral tree hadn't honoured a deal with the demon- toexchange a male infant for riches.Rating- 2/10

"Paranormal Activity 2" is great!

"Paranormal Activity 2" is great! This is how the story goes: The terror continues as a young couple copes with a potentially evil spirit in their suburban home. The directing by Tod Williams (who also directed "The Door In The Floor" (2004, also did the screenplay) is great! The story by Michael R. Perry & the screenplay by Perry, Christopher Landon (who also did the story & screenplay to "Disturbia" (2007) & Tom Pabst is great! The cinematography by Michael Simmonds is great! The film editing by Gregory Plotkin (who also did the film editing to "Untraceable" (2008) is great! The casting by Michael Hothorn is great! The costume design by Kristin M. Burke (who also did the costume design to "The Cooler" (2003), "Running Scared" (2006), "The Grudge 2" (2006), "Death Sentence" (2007) & "Bangkok Dangerous" (2008) is great! The production design by Jennifer Spence (who also did the production design to "Splinter" (2008) & "Stolen" (2009) is great! This is a terrific follow-up to one of the scariest movies, if not, the scariest movie of last year, "Paranormal Activity" (2009). This is just as great, if not, better than, its original. This is a well-crafted sequel / prequel that keeps you on the edge of your seat and thinking at the same time. This is also one of the scariest movies of the year.
