Movie is a joke! This review is from: Piranha [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) I bought the movie to see the 3D visual effects. Although that part passed with flying colors, the movie content is foul-mouthed and full of nudity. A waste of my time and money. |

Unbelievably bad and cornyI had a hard time realizing that this film was for real, thatprofessional people have worked with it and, most horrible, that it wasa commercial success in the United States. I happen to be a friend ofthe US but this, ah creation, puts a strain on the friendship. If itwas a comedy then I must have a problem since I found nothing remotelyfunny in it. If it's a horror film it didn't scare me. Some of thegirls looked very good in their Eve costumes but I once again noticedthat American girls have a regrettable tendency to improve on theirnatural endowments, something that makes me think of dairy producers.Still, I was truly fascinated by the pure bad taste of the film. It wasalmost poetical in it's badness, wicked people "fornicating", drinkingand enjoying themselves and then getting "punished" for that by thefish... A true Dante-an Inferno, albeit in a very infantile level... allthe naked, writhing bodies and the fish, The Fish. |

Exactly what it set out to be. The Citizen Kane of piranha movies? I don't know about that.6.0The horror genre is not one of my favorite genres. In fact, it's almosta pet peeve of mine. I don't understand why people enjoy to see othersin misery or pain. Oh wait, maybe it's like that popular saying: Miseryloves company. I've also noticed that couples tend to gravitate towardshorror movies. Maybe it's because females tend to show their fear, andthis allows males to offer masculinity. I still don't understand whyanyone would want their lives to be filled with horror. But no, that'snot what you want. You don't want your kid to be eaten by a lawnmower. You don't want anyone you care about to be attacked with a chainsaw. You don't want your spouse to be killed by a serial killer. So why doyou watch horror movies? Why do you fill your subconscious, and yourconscious thoughts, with horrible, terrible things? So right off the bat Piranha 3D isn't a movie for me. It's a typicalhorror movie. It offers kills, as creative as they can get with theblood and gore. It offers sex and nudity. And it also offers comedy.Because, of course, what you want to be doing while your family isgetting mauled is, of course, having sex and laughing. Wow. But I guessif you're into that kind of stuff... then good news, because Piranha 3Dis a movie made for you!Piranha 3D isn't the worst movie I've seen. It looks good, and thepacing isn't bad. However, the dialogue is pretty weak. Sometimes itseemed like the movie was written by high schoolers. I guess this isOK, since the movie is basically targeted towards high schoolers. There's a scene where a group of young men pull down their pants toreveal their buttocks. Someone makes a comment like, "This is yourtypical day at college." Not mine. I guess I'm at the wrong parties...or not.The 3D in Piranha 3D is the upconverted kind, but it's not bad. Itmakes things that are in the distance stay in the scope of the 3Deffect, whereas movies like Avatar, which had better 3D, didn't allowfor very distant objects to engage in the 3D effect much.Piranha 3D isn't a bad movie for what it is. It's your typical funhorror experience, and it's a good one at that. However, I wasexpecting it to be something different, and I was highly disappointed. There are times when it will bore you, there are times when it willmake you chuckle, and there are times when it will play with yourlibido. And by play with it I mean cater to it, and then completelyscar it for the rest of your life. Yup. Piranha 3D succeeds at beingexactly what it set out to be. There's not much else that is needed tosay about this one. |

Honest Review: Piranha 3DI'm going to be honest, I'm not going to hold anything back. This movie is awesome, I mean it's one of those guilty pleasure late summer movies and it delivers. Alexandre Aja is a great horror director and he does a fine job here, his only job is to spill as much blood as he possibly can and get as many girls naked and making out as he can, and oh...does he succeed. First of all, I have to say Jessica Szohr and Kelly Brook were incredibly hot. Specifically a very nude underwater scene with Brook's gorgeous body all over the body of another nude woman, and another scene where Jessica Szohr makes out with another girl. He suceeded in the sex appeal, he gets so many girls naked, it's probaly a record. Also, the blood spilled in the movie is insane. Some of the sight gags are so brutal and just ridiclous, you may actually yell something out and not even notice it. This is a sexy and bloody fun horror film that delivers exactly what it promises.... |

bloody bloody funI didn't have high expectations for this film when I first saw thetrailer. I thought it would just be another waste of time movie that Iwouldn't pay money to see. As time progressed, I thought more about themovie and realized that it would actually be pretty fun to see. I wasdefinitely right about this. I'm not pleased with the 3D in the moviebut I was pleased with the amount of action the movie contained.Nonstop girls and violence is a great combination. This isn't exactlyany Oscar winner production but it definitely earns it's place on thelist of most entertaining 90 minute movies. The massive amounts of goremay be a little much for some, but it also plays its comedic effect. This film is in my opinion quite hilarious and worth seeing. |

Blood, Guts, Teeth, & Naked flesh in Red Water in 3D...What more can you ask for?I really liked the original Piranha (1978) and the 1995 TV remake so Iwas really excited about the 2010 remake, particularly when I heardthat it is in 3D and when I saw the trailer that makes you want to gosee the movie. I have always loved underwater horror movies ever sinceI've seen the all time classic Jaws (1975).The story is that there has been an underwater earthquake which hasunleashed prehistoric piranhas. These piranhas were supposed to beextinct 2 million years ago but their habitat was 200 feet undergroundof the sea all along. The rest of the story is all about stupidteenagers who can't act and we don't care about trying to avoid turninginto fish food. This kind of story is a much better idea becausePiranhas are generally not that aggressive. The movie was bashed even before it was released because most peoplethought it was a cheesy movie with bad CGI but I loved every minute ofit because it was so entertaining; fun, very relentless and I had areally good time watching it.Piranha 3D is not a masterpiece or is going to the Oscars (unless it isnominated for the best movie with flesh getting peeled off the bones)it is just a fun popcorn movie that has more than enough to keep youentertained. If you are the kind of person that likes gore or nudity or both thencheck this movie out. Personally I enjoy gore and also if you likedSnakes on a Plane.Overall Horror & Thriller are my favourite genders which Piranha is andafter a long time there is an underwater horror movie that can be seenon the big screen since not every movie is the kind that can be viewedon the cinema. |

A bona fide guilty pleasure. If you have no desire to see gore-galore and gratuitous nudity thendon't see Piranha, it holds about as much value to you as Pride andPrejudice does to adolescent boys. If you have no desire to read aboutgore-galore and gratuitous nudity then don't continue on past thissentence, there's not much else I can talk about in this review. Thoseof you still reading out of sheer curiosity, you have been warned. The latest horror remake from director Alexandre Aja, following on fromThe Hills Have Eyes and Mirrors, has a distinct advantage over saidprecursors: it has tongue planted firmly in cheek. In fact, I wouldargue that Aja's Piranha isn't a horror flick at all. The violence onoffer – a poor girl's face is ripped clean off thanks to her hair beingstuck in a motor, another nubile lass dies after being decapitated inhalf but not before showing her displeasure in what has just happened,a piranha chomps its way out of the mouth of yet another unlucky lady, and the list goes on – is designed to make you laugh, or at leastscoff, at its ludicrousness, not to sicken or frighten you. True, youmay jump a few times due to the whiplash score, but even then theimmediate reaction afterwards is to chuckle at your own silliness inbeing spooked so easily. It helps that the screenplay is so gleefully impudent. Scripters PeteGoldfinger and Josh Stolberg know exactly how bonkers the premise isand they have a blast milking it for all it's worth. Featuring a pairof fan-pleasing cameos – Dreyfuss is a good sport in his pre-titlescene and Lloyd hams it up nicely in a couple of "Great Scott" moments– and plenty of winks and nods to previous fishy horrors, I found ithard to wipe the grin off my face. Throw in a few additional crazythings like completely-naked-and-extremely-hot-female-porno-starskissing underwater to the sound of classical piece 'The Flower Duet'and projectile vomit coming right at you (the 3D is actually prettydecent) and you have a bona fide guilty pleasure.A popcorn flick of the highest order.3.5 out of 5 (1 - Rubbish, 2 - Ordinary, 3 - Good, 4 - Excellent, 5 -Classic) |

Worse Movie of the YEAR ... disgusting and dumbI was expecting 3D babes and dumb "Jaws" type action but what theydelivered was repulsive crap of the lowest order. How on earth did theyget that cast to go anywhere near this disgusting and dumb mess??? DidElizabeth Shue need money that badly? I've rarely seen bigger namesinvolved with something this awful. Who the hell enjoys seeing womangetting graphically butchered in every way possible??? They graphicallypresent everything ranging from flesh being peeled to the bone to womengetting cut in half to a face literally being pulled off by yanking ona ponytail and all in bad 3D. Although, the ultra low point may havebeen showing a fish feeding on a severed penis and then spitting it outall chewed up at the screen. Come to think of it, that very well may bethe low point in all of cinematic history. |

Piranha 3-D! (2010) is one of my favorite Horror / Comedy movies!Sheriff Julie Forrester (Elizabeth Shue), Deputy Fallon (Ving Rhames),the town's citizens and the local police department have their work cutout for them as thousands of college students arrive for the SpringBreak weekend in Lake Victoria, Arizona! During the partying, anunderwater earthquake erupts beneath Lake Victoria; accidentallyunleashing a massive amount of pre-historic Piranha that were survivingin an underwater lake / cavern system for millions of years! Toeveryone's horror, the Piranha begin to wreak havoc on a massive scale;making the college students, and anyone else who steps into the water, their latest and newest innocent victims! Sheriff Forrester turns tomarine biologist Novak Radzinsky (Adam Scott), his team consisting ofPaula Montellano (Dina Meyer), Sam Fischer (Ricardo Chavira), a fishexpert by the name of Carl Goodman (Christopher Lloyd) and the localpolice department, in order to fight off and kill the Piranha beforeLake Victoria, Arizona has a death count in the thousands! However, little does Sheriff Forrester know, that her high-school son Jake(Steven R. McQueen), his college girlfriend Kelly (Jessica Szohr),Sheriff Forrester's other young children Laura (Brooklynn Proulx) andZane (Sage Ryan), a pornographer by the name of Derrick Jones (Jerry O'Connell), Wild Wild Girls Danni (Kelly Brook) and Crystal (RileySteele) and their cameraman Andrew (Paul Scheer) are trapped helplesslyon a charter boat in the middle of the lake; becoming fully aware ofthe vicious, man-eating Piranha's presence! Will Sheriff Forrester beable to both stop the Piranha from massacring the college students, andsave those who trapped on the boat before it is too late?! WatchPiranha 3-D! (2010) in order to find out! Piranha 3-D! (2010) isdirected by Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, 2006), and is writtenfor the screen by Pete Goldfinger (Sorority Row, 2009) and JoshStohlberg (Sorority Row, 2009); being both released by and sponsored byDimension Studios. The Horror / Comedy film was released into theatersnation-wide on August 20th, 2010.Piranha 3-D! (2010) is about Spring Break and killer Piranha fish! Withthat in mind, when you see this movie, expect to view nudity, strongsexual content, language and the occasional use of both alcohol anddrugs! This movie is not intended for children or even teenagers forthat matter; making Piranha 3-D! (2010) a film for adults only! Keepingthose particular comments in mind, I consider Piranha 3-D! (2010) to beone of my favorite Horror / Comedy movies to date! I believe that thecast members did a great job in their character roles, the screenplaywas written rather creatively, the crew members performed their jobswell, the music soundtrack was enjoyable to listen to and the audiencewas even presented with a back-story as to why the Piranha existedbeneath the surface of Lake Victoria, Arizona in the first place!Piranha 3-D! was both fun and intense; mixing a perfect blend of bothHorror and Comedy throughout the entire feature. I also thought that itwas a neat idea by the crew members to have Richard Dreyfuss reprisehis role of Matt Hooper from Steven Spielberg's film Jaws (1977).Piranha 3-D! brought something fresh and original to the table; havingthe villains of the film become vicious Piranha fish, rather thanhaving a homicidal serial killer chase teenagers through the forest! However, I feel that Piranha 3-D! (2010), during certain sequences ofthe film, contained a little bit too-much nudity and strong sexualcontent. Those who have already seen the movie will be familiar withthe scenes that I am referring to. Piranha 3-D! was filmed using thelatest 3-D! technology, and I am not a fan of 3-D!; therefore, I feelthat it was unnecessary to film Piranha in 3-D! Last but not least, Ifeel that Piraha 3-D! could have had a longer running time; with themovie's length being under 90 minutes. With those few negative commentsin mind, overall, I give Piranha 3-D! (2010) a two thumbs up! I justhope that the 2011 sequel to this film, Piranha 3-DD! or Piranha 3-D!:The Sequel will be as exciting and suspenseful as this 2010 Summer filmwas. Overall, I give Piranha 3-D! an 8 / 10 star rating. Piranha 3-D!(2010): Elizabeth Shue, Steven R. McQueen, Jerry O' Connell, JessicaSzohr, Adam Scott, Ving Rhames, Kelly Brook, Riley Steele, Paul Scheer,Eli Roth, Christopher Lloyd, Brooklynn Proulx, Sage Ryan, RichardDreyfuss, Cody Longo, Brian Kubach, Dina Meyer and Ricardo Chavira! |

Complete garbageIt is safe for me to say that this was one of the worst movies I haveever seen, and I judge movies carefully. I suppose it's perfect for acrowd that loves gratuitous violence and obnoxious humour, but this isprobably the only movie that I would say doesn't have a singleredeeming quality. The characters were garbage, the plot bland andpredictable, the humour vulgar and vacuous and the violence nauseatingand unnecessary. From reading other reviews, it seems the only peoplewho liked this film are the mindless numnuts who want to see boobs andpeople eaten alive (often both at the same time in this...dare I callit a film?). If that's your style, stay home, watch a masochistic pornowith a comedic sideplot and save yourself $12. |

Exactly what you'd expect it to be*** out of (****)Piranha 3D is not a pleasant surprise, aside from quality, in any way, shape, or form. You get exactly what you bargained for. Boobs, blood,3D. It can't get any simpler than that. Throw in a hysterical Dreyfusscameo, a few other A-listers, and you have a good time on your hands. This is one over-the-top vehicle so proceed with caution. A devouredpenis. Two fully nude women acting as mermaids. 80,000 gallons ofblood. Dreyfuss reprising his famous tune. If all this doesn't piqueyour interest or quench your thirst, then you should stay away asdisappointment will inevitably pursue. While this a highly flawedpicture that aims at the lowest common denominator at nearly everyaccount, those are exactly it's intentions and it's the right kind ofbad. The entertaining, over-the-top-kind-of-fun way. It's that time again. Those hormonal spring breakers are out theredancing every ounce of their body off, drinking liquor like water, andmaking the crudest remarks toward women. Well, the fun stops there. After a tremor breaks open in Lake Victoria, it releases hundreds ofPiranha, killing tons of young adults. Meanwhile, Jake Forester is onbaby sitting duty because he has to look after his younger sister andbrother while his mother is out there kicking some teenage butt as theSheriff. Forester decides to ditch his tedious task and hops on theinfamous "Wild Wild Girls" boat with his scantily clad crew.Unfortunately, the Piranha are in on them too.First off, we all know the performances in Piranha don't fit thephrases or words "heart- warming", "Oscar-worthy", and "authentic". Andit clearly shows. However, the performances aren't abysmal either.Likewise, they're actually decent. Dreyfuss is his usual hip self, Shuekicks some behind, Rhames is one cool guy, Derrick is the jerk you loveto hate, and Jake is the typical outcast. Also, the script isn't halfbad. The movie has a nice dose of humor without it becomingself-parody, the jokes pack a punch, the situations are prettyrealistic, and the characters are decently written. Furthermore, thedirection is gnarly. The pace is nearly break-neck, the movie is nicelyedited, and the movie knows what it is.Now, the reason why everyone is lined up: Gratuitous blood, nudity, and3D. And honestly, those aforementioned factors don't disappoint. Notonly do they not disappoint, but at times, they can becomeoverly-excessive. For nudity, you never once see an "A" or "B" cup, soperverted guys, don't cry. For the gorehounds, like myself, this movieis probably the bloodiest of them all, and 3D junkies, things areflying out at you like there's no tomorrow and the depth is great.Overall, Piranha 3D is just fun popcorn shlock. Take it or leave it.How can you possibly get disappointed when you know what to expectexactly going in? Granted, I didn't expect so much skin considering theads made it out to be a pure-Piranha action extravaganza, but I couldsee past that and I know it's one of the movie's main selling points. Also, some commented on the horribly artificial CGI fish and I thought,as far as CGI goes, it wasn't too bad. We don't have a "Transformers"on our hands, but we don't have a cheesy late-night Sci- Fy channelfilm either. All in all, I like this movie. There's not a whole bunchof surprises and this isn't the best on the market, but shoot, for allthe serious dramas trying to outdo another in quality, it's refreshingto see one that doesn't try so hard and has fun with what its doing. On a side note: I viewed Piranha 3D with my HD 3D setup and maybe itwas only a theatrical problem, but the 3D I saw was great. The colorswere never darkened, and they actually popped, there was a great senseof depth, and the gimmicks were solid. Fun facts: This movie used 80,000 gallons of blood, which means it'sthe bloodiest movie in the world. Richard Dreyfuss stated that he didthis movie just for money. The movie was delayed theatrically fourtimes before it made its debut. This film wasn't screened for criticsyet holds a current 75% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and anot-so-bad 53 on Metacritic. |

Cheesy Exploitation Creature Feature, done right!'PIRANHA': Four Stars (Out of Five) This 'B' monster film is a remake of the 1978 cult classic of the samename, which was executive produced by Roger Corman and directed by JoeDante (Who later went on to direct such other quirky popular flicks as'THE 'BURBS', 'GREMLINS' and it's sequel). I don't think I everactually saw it, if I did it was so long ago that I don't remember andI possibly just saw parts of it as well, so I can't compare this newversion to the original. I have seen the sequel a couple times whichcame out in 1981 and was James Cameron's directorial debut (although hewas fired from the film before it's completion). This new version wasdirected by Alexandre Aja who started out making French horror filmslike the very popular 'HIGH TENSION' and then recently made a name forhimself directing all American made horror remakes (like 'THE HILLSHAVE EYES' and 'MIRRORS', followed by this). The film is released in3D, which looks great and horror flicks like this are perfect for it.It was advertised under the title 'PIRANHA 3D' which made me think itwas actually the second sequel (in a very loose way) rather than acomplete remake. Now this film has done so well in it's first week(financially and critically) that a sequel of it's own is already inthe works! Elisabeth Shue stars (who you might remember from such 80's classics as'THE KARATIE KID','ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING', 'COCKTAIL' and 'BACK TOTHE FUTURE PART II and III' as well as an Oscar nominated turn in'LEAVING LAS VEGAS'), as Deputy Julie Forester, she was a childhoodcelebrity crush of mine. Forester, with the help of fellow DeputyFallon (played memorably by Ving Rhames) and Novak (played by AdamScott), discovers that a bunch of prehistoric man eating piranha havebeen set loose, by a tremor, in their hometown of Lake Victoria. Tocomplicate things thousands of tourists are on Spring Break vacationthere and her son (played by Steven R. McQueen, from the popular TVseries 'THE VAMPIRE DIARIES') is out filming a sleazy pornographicvideo aboard a boat on the lake with the video's sexist director(played by Jerry O'Connell), his cast and crew and the boy's would begirlfriend (played by the beautiful Jessica Szohr, also well known fora popular TV show named 'GOSSIP GIRL'). Tons of explicit nudity, sexand gore ensues. The movie has about as much graphic violence and gore as I've ever seenin a movie but it is done in a mostly campy and comedic way. It alsohas about as much full frontal female nudity as the MPAA has allowed inan R rated movie. This has caused a lot of controversy and discussion.Perhaps the film got away with it because of it's campy comedic natureor the 3D computer like visuals. Does it really matter? The film iswhat it is; a cheesy exploitation creature feature. It does what it'ssupposed to perfectly. The acting is mostly blah, the dialog is weakand the film contains several ridiculous scenarios with almost completedisregard to logic. The effects are cool, including some very realisticand disturbing bloody aftermath wound scenes, and the gore is out ofcontrol. The movie is a lot of fun. Short and sweet, almost a littletoo short. It's only real flaw is that I just expected a little more;there's no scene where Forester argues with some selfish business manabout shutting down the Spring Break celebration and the end is alittle too abrupt. For the most part the film is exactly what Iexpected though and I'm sure it will soon be a cult classic 'B' monsterfilm of it's own.Watch our review show 'MOVIE TALK' at:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9G9Ubb99VY |

a classic "B" movie for todays generationThis review is from: Piranha (DVD) Since I live in Havasu I HAD to get this movie. I watched as they filmed it and the spring breakers had a blast being in it. This film would be a perfect for the "USA's Up-All-Night" movies from the 80's with Rhonda Shear and Gilbert Godfrey. It fits the classic "B" film perfectly, the gore is there but not as bad as others say. The T&A factor is there just like it is in Havasu on the big summer weekends, the underwater "ballet" scene is 4+ minutes of skin for the viewers to enjoys. It's a bit predictable, some of the scenes you can tell were designed for the 3-D version and just make you laugh. The movie ends "wide open" for a sequel, so we'll see what happens.... So if you enjoyed those movies from the 80's grab this one.. |

Switch your brain off for this rubbishUtter garbage. The film is laughable and forgettable. Bad story, bad acting and there are so many flaws in the plot that it's not even worth going over them. Also - over the top sex and nudity scenes throughout, definitely NOT for family viewing, at times it feels like a soft core porn movie. Perhaps the scariest aspect of this movie is the fact that it was shown in cinemas worldwide, rather than straight to DVD, then tossed in your local dollar store, where it would fit in quite perfectly with all the other trashy DVDs. I imagine the movie will appeal to the type of audience who are used to watching movies with their brains on standby mode, or switched off completely. If so, then this movie will suit you, as there is not much to it. |

A very entertaining B-movieAccording to the legend, in 1978, director Steven Spielberg's lawyershad the intention of suing a then young and unknown director called JoeDante for having stolen too many elements from the successful Jaws inhis modest film Piranha. But when Spielberg saw the movie, herecognized the fact that Dante had talent and instead of suing him hegave him work, forming a relationship which would eventually bring usfilms like Gremlins, Explorers and Innerspace. I do not know if thatanecdote is true (I doubt it), but it is one of the reasons why Piranhahas survived in popular conscience (at least in the ones from geekslike me) during more than 30 years as a respected cult classic, moreattractive for being a product from its time than for being aremarkable horror film.Do not misunderstand me...I consider Piranha to be hugely entertainingand with a good sense of humor, but I cannot deny that it shamelesslycopies to Jaws, not to mention the many other films about killinganimals which preceded it. For better or for worse, its recent remakecalled Piranha 3D, did not try to change the formula, and it limiteditself to decorate it with modern digital effects, abundant nakedbodies and a "meta-humor" level. And I have to say that the result isvery entertaining.Director Alexandre Aja impressed many people (including me) with thebrutal "psychological slasher" High Tension, something which was enoughfor Hollywood to call him to make the competent remake The Hills HaveEyes (2006), which had a moderate success, so he could make his nextmovie, the tedious Mirrors, which is also a remake (in this case, of aKorean film). More recently, following his apparent vocation, he madethis remake of Piranha, in which he did not employ his habitual tenseand aggressive style, but something more accessible and funny, something which worked very well in here.It is obvious that the relentless stupidity from Piranha 3D is anintegral part from its humor, because I found the logic from the film(for example: What did the piranhas eat during the centuries they werewaiting for their freedom?) and the "heroic" scenes (for example: Willit be efficient to kill piranhas with a shotgun) to be hilarious. Thefirst hour from the movie is efficient, because of the way it shows thecharacters and their sub-plots. But when we lead to the attack from thepiranhas (during the last 20 minutes more or less), the things get muchbetter, and the film becomes into a perverse comedy full of very blackhumor, and the constant parade of unlikely situations, blood andfrantic action make it exciting and hugely entertaining. In summary, Ithink that Piranha 3D is a simple and honest B-movie in the besttradition from the 70's exploitation, totally conscious from itsdefects, and absolutely compensating them with the recipe of blood, violence and gratuitous nude scenes. And I think that that formula is the main reason why Piranha 3Ddeserves a recommendation with the warning that it is necessary tounderstand the intention from this film. Personally, I had a veryentertaining experience with this movie, mainly thanks to the violence, the humor and the 3D effect. |
