A great return to the series!

I had high expectations for Predators since I knew that producer,Robert Rodrigeuz was aware of how much fans despised the the AVP filmsand that he wanted to make the "real" sequel to Predator. Predator is agreat action film, so how could the sequel live up to the original?They make the sequel its own; the film takes place on the predator'splanet, the lead actor is not the macho hero of the 80s but insteadrather reluctant and they create interesting characters. Adrien Brody may at first seemed like an unusual choice for the leadcharacter but he is interesting to watch and brings something new tothe film. After all, he is an Oscar winning actor and his journey intoa new role is fun to watch. While the script is not Oscar worthy, itkeeps the viewer in suspense and never takes the audience out of thefilm. The supporting cast are interesting and come with their own stories.They include a Russian soldier, a Yakuza member, a convict and a BlackOps sniper. While some have more screen time than others, they play offeach other well and are interesting to watch.Being the sequel to Predator (and that other film, which I won'tmention) action is expected and the film delivers. One of the firstaction scenes involves predator beasts charging at the characters andit is exciting to watch. This is the same for the rest of the actionscenes that keep the audience entertained. While the first Predator film asked the what they were been hunted by,this time they are asking where are they, who is responsible and howare they going to get back home? In some ways I felt that this film wasleading up to a sequel that will be bigger and better in every way, butunlike some of the slower episodes of Lost, you go with it because itis the journey that is important as the film is not treading water.Without spoiling anything, something happens halfway through the film,which reveals more but asks new questions as well. Predators is not perfect but it is enjoyable to watch and will keep youinterested in seeing what happens next. The film delivers on what itpromises and fans should not be disappointed.

Amazingly Awful

As a fan of the original Predator, I found myself to be extremelyexcited to see this movie. Thankfully, the gods spared me some misery;I was not able to catch this movie while it was in theaters, though Itried desperately. To say that this movie did not live up to itspredecessor is an understatement. In contrast to my ultimate opinion ofthe movie, I do think that there were some good elements in the story.Unfortunately, this film falls into the trap of predictability, andloses its intrigue. I liked the ethnic diversity of the characters,however I did not care for the archetypal white alpha male whocoincidentally knows everything about the strange planet and thetactics of the aliens that are hunting them. I thought that any one ofthe other characters of varying ethnicities should have served as theAlpha Male. That would have been refreshing to see. The female soldiercould have served as the leader as well, as opposed to second incommand. This also would have been a nice change of pace. Ultimately this movie failed not because of the ethnicity of the malelead, but because the story was not thought through. You can not leavethe audience with too many unanswered questions; which is what happenshere. If you are looking for an action flick that lacks logic anddepth, then Predators is your movie. Enjoy.

Get real, people! This is AWFUL!

Predators is awful. The characters aren't compelling in the least(there is practically no characterization), there's no meat on thebones of the story, no cool one-liners, no self-irony or campiness (asin the original), and several scenes are blatant reshoots of scenesfrom the original movie. This is so bad, and so predictable.But let me clamp down on two of the biggest plot holes. Most peoplewouldn't notice them, but they bother me a lot:1) Earth plants on another planet? Was this "game reserve" built bytransporting Earth plants to this world? Would the predators go thatfar? And if so, wouldn't they use it very exclusively for hunting prey?But no, they are also involved in their own blood feud in the sameplace, suggesting that this is their own habitat and *not* anartificial game reserve - in which case there can't be Earth plants.Sure, there are possible explanations, but the movie doesn't provideany.2) The cosmic panorama. Doesn't make any sense. First, they have clearsky above them before they reach the valley and see the cosmic skyline.They notice earlier that the sun doesn't move. Where was the cosmicskyline then? Second, at least one of the nearby planets is a gasgiant, suggesting that our characters are located on one of its moons.Only, on an orbiting moon, the sun wouldn't be standing still abovetheir heads. No possible combination of factors make sense here.3) Just adding a gratuitous third gripe, though it's not specifically aplot hole, but annoying just the same because nothing is explained: Theending! They just go, "Let's get off this planet". But there's no clearway that's at all possible. So there is no real ending. That isintensely annoying. The incompetent makers of this movie are nottreating space-travel as the big deal that it is.Huge disappointment. Commercial claptrap with no passion and nointelligence and no proper sci-fi. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.I'm done.

A movie can be Bad or it can be Worse.

This is a bad movie. The theme is rubbish and there a re unlimitednumber of goof-ups. Even the action sequences are badly done. What werethe Director and his crew thinking when they made this movie is beyondme. I thought Alien Vs. Predator was the worst in the series, but thismovie proved me wrong. This one is the worst. Why would you want tofight with these creatures and then stay with them by killing theothers, and that too in a far away planet. Yeah, that got meremembering, the setting of this movie is not earth, but another planetthat is very much similar to earth with same atmospheric and geographicconditions that humans can survive without oxygen masks.So overall a bad movie, in my opinion. I rate it 3 out of 10.

A good action blu ray to add to your library

This review is from: Predators (DVD) I found the movie to be very good and thought it did a great job of balancing what the audience knew and expected with a few new elements. As you watch Predators many references to the original will pop up and make you smile. I considered that to be a positive and enjoyed the nod to the original movie. I was motivated to go back and watch the first one again after finishing Predators. If you like the predator mythology and typical action movies then you won't be disappointed.The blu ray extras were also enjoyable. The motion comics were brief, but gave an interesting glimpse to the characters that are thrown into the plot. The Evolution of the Species pieces also provided more insight into the direction and depths that were taken to make the movie and mythos as interesting as possible. The deleted scenes were sparse, but a few of them were great and Trejo fans would have really enjoyed seeing a few of his great lines make it into the final film. Parts of the extras, especially the commentary, are a bit repetitive as Antal and Rodriguez take turns telling how awesome the other one is. Overall, a high quality blu ray experience, great value with all the extras, and an excellent step forward for the predator franchise.

OK but I want more!

Robert Rodrigues has got his mitts on the Predator franchise and hisgiven us (as producer) what in many ways is a re-tread of the veryfirst movie - humans being hunted in jungle. The tweak is that thejungle is on an alien planet, although this is fairly irrelevant -apart from some alien hunting hounds and a spectacular skyscape itmight as well be in the Brazilian rain forest.Because the story, such as it is, is "last man standing" - in whatorder are the humans going to be killed, and in what ways? This is alldelivered in an adequately gripping fashion but, apart from theresolution (which I found very pleasing), this film doesn't reallyoffer us anything we haven't seen before. Even the "surprise" whenTopher Grace turns is no surprise because you know there must have beena reason why he was chosen as part of the group. And it is particularlyunconvincing because it flies in the face of personal survival.I find myself thinking that if there are going to be more Predatorfilms, they need to offer us a bit more. In particular, the Predatorsdeserve to be a bit more than merely slaughter machines in the JasonVorhees mould - maybe we need to see a bit more Predator culture,possibly even a bit of character development (not easy, perhaps, butsurely film-makers are supposed to be a resourceful lot?) After 5movies, all I know is that Predators hunt. I don't know why they arrivein spaceships with invisibility suits and then light up their camp withburning torches. I also don't know how the humans can unload half aVietnam's worth of ordinance face first at their invisible *rseswithout any effect whatsoever, yet Ms Sniper can then immediately takeone of them out on a transverse run with a single shot between heavytree growth.Ah well. This is not a movie intended to test your brain. Watch theaction, munch your popcorn, and enjoy.

Excellent blend of "Alien"/"Rambo"/"The Most Dangerous Game" and "Ten Little Indians".

PREDATORS (2010) ***Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Topher Grace, WaltonGoggins, Oleg Taktarov, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, Louis OzawaChangchien, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Carey Jones, Brian Steele, DerekMears. Better –than-anticipated chapter to the sci-fi franchise withpeddle-to-the-metal action and suspense with a much needed adrenalineboost this time with a throng of mercenaries deposited upon a jungleenviron planet and find themselves prey to the titular alien stalkers;sort of a blend of "Alien"/"Rambo"/"The Most Dangerous Game" and "TenLittle Indians". Producer/filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, director NimrodAntal and scribes Alex Litvak & Michael Finch show obvious love for themonster mash that ensues by paying proper respect to the horror andechoes of the original film making this a crowd-pleasing, popcorntreat.

Just for fun

Predators is one of the best movies I've watched in recent times.Thecinematography is excellent.The hammings are funny and highlyenjoyble.Suspense is retained till the very end.I highly recommend this movie.Summary (as printed in the Press Release): Predators revolves aroundthe invention of a machine.Royce, a nerdish yet muscular scientistlived 150 years ago in a village. Lifesized ETs then descend...There is a trace of "Professor Shanku" (created by Robert Rodriguez)inthe character of The Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. No man, don't eventhink about making the third part for this film. And what's up with thescript, character artists and everything? Mr. Rodriguez must take fewlessons on writing a powerful screenplay and get rid of lame language.The big problem with the thing is that the Rodriguez have managed tomake a 2006 movie with recipe, that worked only 11 years ago. They'vefailed to realize they're not making James Cameron's Abatar.

A Well Done "Sequel" with it's own identity

One of the things that makes the Predator movies so popular is the factthat they try to change up the situation that they're in. This film incomparison to all the others is more of a direct sequel which followsthe formula of the original but with it's own identity and surprises.First the characters compliment each other very well. They are allkillers with their own traits which make them a unique ensemble. Fromall around the world, Africa, Japan, Central America, and the good oldUS of A... They all have to work together in an uneasy tension whichmakes you wonder when they are going to turn on each other. Eachcharacter has their own moment where they give more establishment totheir character so when they do meet their conclusion it's satisfying.I guess one of the only problems I have with the film is that AdrianBrody doesn't come off to me as an action star. I think I would haverather seen Fishburne and Brody change place in this lineup.Still, this film does have lots of surprises which keep you interestedin the story and what's going to happen next.Point blank. If you liked the original and are a fan of the series,you'll be entertained. It's got great pacing and acting, and staysfresh. Still regarding how weak this summer has been for good movies,this one is the best this year.

Expected more

So, here is my "quick" review, doesn't include direct spoilers, butI'll still put a warning.What I personally expected, was lots of gun fire, predators trying todecapitate people, mysterious, twisted storyline and some kind of a"WOW!" feeling. Well, at the first 20 minutes nothing really happens inthe movie, I thought there would imaginative story telling or somethinglike that, but no. So then I thought that there would be lots of actionto cover poor storyline. There were some good action parts, but theyended too obviously. There were moments when I thought "Ok, maybe nowits getting better!". Then i realized that the movie was over.The plot was crystal clear from beginning to the end. Not really anytwists... About 2 minutes after the movie started you could see whomade it to the end of the movie.This is nothing compared to the first Predator. I was expecting more,much more from this movie.I gave this movie 5/10, because it didn't have the Predator feeling into it. There were some good parts, but nothing to be exited about.

Several strangers, each well versed in armed combat, find themselvesdropped into a dense jungle where they are pursued by Predators, a raceof extraterrestrials who hunt alien life-forms for sport.As much as I enjoy seeing Predators do their thing, this attempt by20th Century Fox to reboot its popular sci-fi/action franchise doesnothing to change my opinion that the dread-locked hunters should havehung up their triangulating, shoulder-mounted laser blasters for goodwhen AVP: Requiem failed to impress the majority of viewers.It's not that Predators is a terrible movie, per se, but rather that ithas nothing new to offer fans, the basic plot (by Robert Rodriguez)simply retreading territory covered over two decades ago in the stillunrivalled original Schwarzeneggar classic. Director NimrГѓВіd Antal'sreplication of key scenes from the first film only serves to irritateand matters aren't helped much by his raft of particularly unappealingcharacters (as opposed to Arnie's likable Dutch and his impossiblymacho pals), a dreadfully miscast Adrien Brody as lead tough guy Royce,and a seriously dumb 'twist' towards the end.

Thoroughly Entertaining

From the moment the film opens with Adrien Brody's character falling through the sky unconscious, you can tell that you're going to be in for quite the ride. "Predators" was one of the most entertaining films I've seen in a long time. It was more humorous than I expected, with much of the comedic relief provided by Topher Grace and Walton Goggins, and had all the action I could've asked for and more. What I was surprised at was the amount of tension and suspense built up during the first 45 minutes or so. Although those of us familiar with the Predator films knew what we were expecting, Predators did a great job of causing us to fear that revealing as much as we were anticipating it. Very well done all around. I did think the ending came a bit abruptly, but I am anxiously awaiting a sequel.

What a surprise! This movie was entertaining!

Look, it is not really a FIVE Star film. Compared to the AVP ones it is, but it is really a solid 3.75 Star Film, but the fact that some people feel compelled to give it only a single star is Absurd and forced my equally absurd higher rating of FIVE. If you liked the original, you can't help but like this one, as it is more of the same. I loved the homages to the Original, and it was entertaining. If you didn't like the original movie don't bother watching this one. With that said, it was a good movie.

Quality Sci Fi movie.

This movie was just has good as the first Predators. This was a veryaction packed movie. It kind of had you on the edge of your seat. Ifyou have not seen the previous predators then do not see this onebecause it could be confusing for somebody who has not seen any of themovies. The storyline in this movie was above average. As I said before youhave to see the other movies to really know what is everything. Exceptfor that the storyline was were it needed to be. I think the storylinewas just a basic storyline. Nothing more nothing less but their were acouple things that did not make sense. The action was a key part of this movie. The whole movie people weretrying to kill the predators and same with the predators. Their weregreat battle scenes throughout the movie. At the same time the peoplewere starting to go crazy and for the most part everybody was in thebunch. This movie was a kind of movie that got you thinking what wouldI do in this situation?The special effect were amazing. I liked the idea of the Predatorsadapting and getting smarter every "season". The Predators armor andweapons got cooler in this one. The ending was a kind of ending that is setting you up for a secondone. Their will be a second predators. I know it. So I would recommendthis movie to Sci Fi fans and action fans. For movie goers who onlycare about storyline then I would wait for DVD. My score: 7.5 Rounded score: 8

Horrible, no plot, no script, no chance to survive. F-. Why did this movie get such high reviews before it came out. I was decieved by false reviews.
