about as interesting as 90 minutes of white noise

I'm having a hard time trying to find something to say about thismovie.I really don't care about the moral aspects, bad behavior, crudelanguage whatsoever. If you would hate a movie for that reason, youwouldn't really go and see a high school home party themed movie in thefirst place, right? But what really makes me dislike this "movie" is the fact that itdoesn't have a plot, character development or anything like it. It islike 90 minutes of white noise. Crazy, sometimes visually appealingwhite noise, but nevertheless, there is just no content. It's notfunny, the main characters are not really likable, and nothing reallymatters. Nothing that anyone says or does really has an effect outsideof the scene, there is no connection between the different parts of themovie, and when it's over, you haven't seen anything but an incoherentrow of scenes without meaning. And every time you start hoping forsomething meaningful to develop, your hopes get shattered with the nextcut when the film moves on. In the context of this movie, moments with more potential to have atleast some significance (for example what happens between Thomas andKirby) can't really be taken neither seriously, nor are they at allbelievable.Project X is a movie that doesn't leave a lasting impression besides astrange feeling that could best be described as "So what?", "Where'sthe point?" or "What now?".4/10 for bad/no plot, character development and failing to leave animpression with the viewer.

Awesomeness seems to be the chief quality prized by both the film and its characters; all other considerations-like safety, property damage, and especially good taste-are secondary.

Definitely a 'feel-good' movie that's moving for anyone who can relate!

'PROJECT X': Three and a Half Stars (Out of Five) Another 'found footage' film, this one is a teen party film produced byTodd Phillips (the director behind such popular crude comedies as 'THEHANGOVER' 1 and 2, 'OLD SCHOOL', 'ROAD TRIP' and 'DUE DATE'). It wasdirected by first time feature film director Nima Nourizadeh andwritten by Matt Drake and Michael Bacall (who also co-wrote 'SCOTTPILGRIM VS. THE WORLD' and '21 JUMP STREET'). It was cast with manyunknowns through a nationwide open casting call and filmed on a budgetof just $12 million. The nerds gone wild storyline doesn't have muchoriginality or surprises to it but it is funny and somewhat inspiring. The movie was originally titled 'PROJECT X' as just a placeholder foranother title but after the name drew a lot of interest the filmmakersdecided to keep it. The film revolves around three high school friends(Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper and Jonathan Daniel Brown) who decide tothrow a birthday party for one while his parents are gone. The threeare outcasts at their school and want the party to be big in order togain popularity. So one advertises it heavily at school, on craigslistand through massive text messaging. The party of course growsincreasingly out of control as another friend (Dax Flame) films it.The movie is obviously heavily populated with themes of reclusive kidsletting loose and partying for once in their lives. I would guess itwas majorly influenced by other 'nerds gone wild' teen party films like'RISKY BUSINESS'. It's been criticized by some for encouragingirresponsible morals but I think it's inspiring. Definitely a'feel-good' movie that's moving for anyone who can relate.Watch our movie review show 'MOVIE TALK' at:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rHRJKrR2Lk

It's a defiantly anarchic, unexpectedly poignant updating of the late, great John Hughes emo-fueled teen anthems, retooled for the age of anxiety and adulthood in distress.

This Is The Best Teenage Movie In Recent Times!

Adrenaline-pumping, heart-thumping, nerve-racking, spine-chilling - youwill experience totality in this movie wrongly called as the Project X.Debut cast is epic and appreciate the producers for this noble idea.Animal House is surely reincarnated, so is the usual teenage comedygenre. Todd Phillips is a maverick when it comes to on the road, offthe road movies with Hangover & Due Date in his credit, Project X isjust another feather in his hat. Screenplay is perfect.Elements, except that of drug were totally binding and each event givesyou more stuffs to enjoy and speculate what might happen next. Lots ofteenage fun, naked bodies, madness and total anarchy is what the leadcharacter Thomas's house is full of. Even the police are intimidated atone point. Such a ridiculously enthralling movie, Project X isrecommended to everyone out there - young & old!WATCH OUT FOR: The beat soundtrack! Can be watched with a typical Indian family? NOLanguage: Yes | Sex: Strong | Nudity: Very Strong | Drugs: Strong |Alcohol: Strong | Gore: No | Violence: Yes | Foreplay: Strong | Mouth-Kiss: Strong

The "Animal House" of the iPhone generation? Could be. Pretty enjoyable for parents too.

"Hangover" for the high school crowd that sends absurd messages about underage drinking, drug use and sexual activity.

"Awesome fu**ing movie"

I couldn't agree more with the gentlemen a few rows behind me at thetheater, who stood up and shouted "Awesome fu**ing movie" as soon as itwas done. It's not a movie that attempts to preach morale. I didn't think of anyunderlying themes or hidden messages. It's simply a very entertainingfilm from beginning to end, and it had the whole movie theater laughingand cheering throughout the film. It takes good use of the found footage genre, without taking it toofar, you hardly even notice it after a while, but it does help themovie come to life. With good acting, nothing outstanding, but good, great scenes and no dead moments, it was the funniest movie experienceI've had in a long time. What it lacks in storyline, it makes up for incraziness. It sure felt like the hangover and superbad on acid. See the film. It won't change your life, but if you're able to see amovie just to be entertained, you just have to enjoy it.

A Nice Dream

Project X was exactly what you thought it was going to be. The moviespends a very brief 20 minutes establishing the plot line andintroducing the characters. The rest of the time is spent delving intoa teenage male fantasy-complete with drugs, booze, and hot babes. As a teenager myself, I found this movie interesting because it feltlike I was there, at the party. For 88 minutes I (and probably allother teenagers) got to see our fantasy play out on the big screen, this was the stuff we could only dream about. Hard core Movie lovers will hate this film, and I don't blame them. It's true, Project X won't win any awards, and it'll probably beforgotten in a couple months once bigger productions like John Carterand the Hunger Games come out. But what Project X lacks in the "theatrical masterpiece" department itmakes up for with a message. That message is the plight of teenagersaround the the world- which is the desire to be accepted. Basicallythis movie says that if you aren't popular, then do what society hasdeemed "cool" and throw a huge party. Even though I'm a teen I don'tagree with this message (shocking I know). Sure it would be cool toATTEND an epic party like that , but would you really want to throwone?? At the end of the movie the main character, Thomas Kub, says "Iburned down my neighborhood, bankrupted my parents, trashed my collegecareer and I'll be in debt for the rest of my life.." Wow really?? Imay be 18, but there's no way I would destroy my future for ONE nightof epicness. What most teenagers don't realize is that this "pubescentangst" period is a drop in the bucket of our lives. It seems to me thattrashing 80% of your life (just so that 10% can be spend bathing in thefalse admiration of people who, after high school, you'll probablynever meet again) isn't worth it. Project X lets teenagers fantasize about what could, not necessarilyshould, be like. There's a reason why it's a called "Hollywood" becauselike most movies, this is a fantasy created to draw audiences, not tobe taken seriously.Project X was an epic 88 minute dream, but like all dreams, when thelights come on, it's time to wake up and get back to reality.

This movie is a celebration of youthful abandon. It's about that magical time in life when you realize that you are old enough to do anything you want, but before you're smart enough to understand that you shouldn't.

What's alarming, and a little sad, is that Project X wasn't made by teenagers but by grown-ups.

It's not for everybody, but if you ever wondered what Risky Business would have felt like without the glossy cinematography and Tangerine Dream score, you'll be very pleasantly surprised.

Officially classified MA15+, it should really be IM18- (suitable for immature audience under 18) ... I can't even defend the film on the grounds that it succeeds at its own intent, because it has no intent - it has nothing to say

"Project X" grows repetitive and starts running out of steam, and you begin to wonder what could possibly occur over the remaining 30 minutes or so.

Classless, mean-spirited, repugnant, deplorable, off-puttingly sleazy, and thoroughly contemptible.

The Ultimate Party Movie!

This movie was a blast! A real treat. I enjoyed every minute of it, Iloved the pacing and the direction and the atmosphere of the filmreally made it feel like you were actually at a party. A definite checkout.I really thought all the actors/actresses did great and they were allpretty much unknown so it made it seem even more real as you were notfamiliar with them, which I think made it even better. I don't think itwould have felt the same, if you had a well known young actor in thelead. As I previously stated, whilst watching you really feel like you are ata Party. The movie is crazy and outrageous and the events that occurduring the film will have you in shock and laughing. There is a fewmoments in the film that really made me laugh out loud, mostly theunexpected moments when you eyes become wide and your mouth drops. Those moments. This movie is excellent to hang out with your friends and watch it withthem and I can guarantee after it you will be ready and wanting to goto a party! I rate this movie: 8/10.

Nothing brilliant, but an entertaining juvenile comedy

The "big party" is one of the classic subjects in the juvenilecomedies, and it has been used by some of the most iconic films of thegenre, from its innocent beginnings (Gidget, Bleach Blanket Bingo) toits peak during the '80s (Weird Science, Sixteen Candles) and the '90s(American Pie, Can't Hardly Wait). Now, Project X follows thetradition, bringing a more modern (translation: more rude and vulgar)sensibility to the recipe, along with the currently fashionable visualstyle: the "home video". The result isn't very memorable, but the filmmade me laugh enough times in order to make it worthy of a moderaterecommendation. For better or for worse, Project X is a natural evolution of thejuvenile comedy transformed into a "reality show", leaving the modestyand messages from the John Hughes (1950-2009) era behind, in order tohug the Youtube generation, in which nothing is real unless it's taped, shared and "liked" by friends (and strange people, of course). So, eventhough Project X lacks of well built characters, logical structure orformal narrative, it works moderately well as a parade of instantaneousgags, and as a depiction of the perverse voyeuristic pleasure ofcapturing the people on their worst moments.Director Nima Nourizadeh brought a dynamic rhythm to Project X,something which doesn't leave any place to the boredom. On the otherhand, I found the characters of Project X a bit antipathetic...eventhough there are a few moments in which they are partially redeemed bytheir sincere emotions and fleeting moments of humanity. As for theperformances, I found them all credible and natural. So, in conclusion, Project X is very far from being a remarkablejuvenile comedy, but I have to admit that it made me have a good timein spite of that.

Dazed and Confused of Our Generation

It is what it is.IT"S A PARTY MOVIE! did you really think this wasgoing to be some Oscar nominated film!? even the makers know it's not. From trailers you should know it's going to be a ridiculous party thatgets out of hand and that is the mind set you should have had whenseeing this film. This movie uses a 1st person camera so it makes youfeel like you're in the party. Kind of like the movie Cloverfield butnot anywhere near as shaky. This was a very intelligent move by themakers. Also, not many people know this, but YES THIS MOVIE WAS BASEDON AN ACTUAL PARTY. Don't believe me? go to you-tube and watchAustralian party kid. This movie was wild, loud, and immediately made you want to party andhave the time of your life. Truly influenced by YOLO. Also, thissoundtrack was amazing, the girls were incredibly hot (some nastychicks for laughs), and had decent characters. Not to mention, thismovie was not just a big crazy music video party, but had a lot offunny one liners and funny scenes. I really don't get why people canrag on this. Maybe because they've never partied before, and in thatcase, after seeing this movie they probably have. Even though I enjoyed this movie, there were some flaws and room forimprovement. Some characters were left basically undeveloped anduninteresting, and also having a party that upbeat made some slowerscenes feel even slower. But overall, grab a case of beer, take some shots, and get crazy. Gosee this movie, its a must especially if you are in the college/highschool ages. To THE BREAK OF DAWN!

The documentary conceit doesn't really work, the central message is utterly bogus and it's ultimately let down by some appalling misogyny and a deeply unlikeable central character.
