The Heart Of Steel

Based on what everybody said, Real Steal is like Over The Top plusRocky with Robots. Over The Top because there's a man, his son, and atruck. Rocky because it's obvious. Put these films together and addrobots and minus Stallone. Real Steel is not very innovating though butit's excitingly great and has plenty of heart. It's also the return ofHugh Jackman although we just saw him a little last June. There are lotof things to recommend in Real Steel. The premise isn't really that intriguing. It's boxing replaced byrobots. Films with Giant CGI Robots are not innovating since we haveMichael Bay's Transformers. But the heart and soul lies to therelationship of Charlie and Max and their robot, Atom. It's fun towatch them. The fighting scenes are pretty exciting. That is what mostunderdog fighting movies do. The only problem here is the weak majorantagonist. It's not really that threatening or a big deal. Ricky wasmore threatening than the gigantic Zeus. The filmmaking is pretty decent. Well shot scenes. The CGI robots andthe music score are good enough. Nothing to say about the productiondesign except Charlie's truck. It looks fascinating for some reason. The performances were great. We don't see Hugh Jackman in action moviesafter two years and there's a small cameo of him, flipping off twocharacters(it's obvious but I won't tell you the title). Here in RealSteel, Jackman is energetic and somewhat perfect for the role. DakotaGoyo is a bit charming. Chemistry of him and Jackman shines through thefilm. It's fun to watch them together. There aren't much new here in Real Steel but in the end, it's enjoyableand has plenty of heart. The climax isn't so much overwhelming but itintends to be more heartfelt. Again, it's like Over The Top which thefather is trying to make his son proud and Rocky because it's boxingand add some robots in it. Even without thinking much about the robots, there is always human heart in this film. Hugh Jackman does it again. The underdog fighting movie genre does it again. It's really a fun filmfor the whole family.

Boxing Movies touches heart, boxing robots too...

I hated boxing. When I first heard about LOTR, I thought it was aboxing movie. And I go not watching that movie for year, unless I cameto know original plot from a friend. pathetic but true!!!But luckily I watched Cinderella man, and then that movie got me intoboxing movies. Then I watched The Fighter. Those movies touch my heart. When I heard about Real Steel where Robots fight Boxing. I had no highhopes about it, but felt interested because the movie got TheWolverine. Now, I liked it and I like it much, seeing how realistic a sciencefiction movie can be. Seeing how a unknown son can change a father, howa son can rebuild a father's heart, I love the movie. FYI, this is the movie which will freshen your mind better than lots ofcomedy. No hard scene, but you may attempt to cry watching happymoments.A movie to watch with family. I rated it 8, and hope you willfind my review helping.

Real Steel? Try Real Stupid

Real Steel? TMG says Real Stupid. This movie is just dumber than dirtfrom the get go. I am sure some eleven year old boys who are intosci-fi and robots will think this film is really cool. But if we judgeany film by that standard, snot on a grasshopper's back is entertainingand cool too.Hugh Jackman plays a forty something eleven year old named CharlieKenton who never grew up from playing with toys. The year is around2020 and apparently the world has descended into a bunch of violencecrazed degenerates who never bathe and spill beer everywhere and alllove robo-boxing. This is a great start for a film targeted atpre-teens. During the scenes at the "Crash Palace" I really thought Iwas watching some outtakes from Waterworld (1995) and Dennis Hopperwould come back from the dead with a black eye patch on. This just goesto prove what a piece of junk $100 million can buy you in a movie.Charlie is a former boxer, irresponsible no-mind, who builds boxingrobots with money from loan sharks. His lucky day hits when he learnshis ex-girlfriend has died and has left him with his biological elevenyear-old son Max (Goyo). For the good of no one, Max's Aunt Debra wantsto adopt Max, so Charlie makes a deal with her uber wealthy husband forDebra to keep Max for $100,000.00. Max's loving Aunt Debra thenimmediately turns him back over to Charlie for the summer while she andhubby vacation Europe. This is all just dandy.Little Max turns out to be a way too smart, way beyond his years smartass of a kid, who of course is a genius at building half-ton ton, artificially intelligent robots. He runs from county fair to countyfair with dear old Dad building and fighting robots against skin headsand the dregs of society–which is pretty much the entire earth at thispoint. All the while, Charlie manages a ridiculously contrivedrelationship with the daughter of his former boxing trainer. In theinterim, we get a 2010 film tech adaptation of father and son playingand updated 1964 era version of Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots.Charlie and Max, down on their last dollar, build a scrap heaprobo-fighter from a junkyard and name him Atom. No spoiler at all whathappens next as they rise to the top of the robo- boxing world and findlove. I wanted to just puke. If this terribly written plot and clichédriven dialogue represents the future of of anything, I don't want tolive that long.I did notice a few things along the way. Goya looks and acts amazinglylike young Mark Sway (Brad Renfro) in The Client from 1994. I wonderedif they were actually brothers. (Let's hope the promising young Goyafares better than Renfro who died at 25 from a drug overdose.) Inoticed, oddly enough, that all cars in 2020 all look like 1990′smodels. I also noticed that giving an eleven year old boy a line like"Anything you don't need, you just throw away" is not even heartinspiring in a totally absurd movie. One hour in, I was bored to deathand was frankly surprised few adults were walking out. Perhaps they didnot realize films like 50/50 and The Way and The Help were showingright next door. Real Steel even made Thor look inspiring, well writtenfun and believable and I didn't think that was even possible. And what is with all the scenes of prairie windmills in this movie? Itreally looked like the Director was trying to make some politicalstatement on energy for no reason. Fact is, if those absurdlyinefficient bird killers on the Kansas plains are still running in2020, we are all in real trouble. Maybe we will all be wearingsleeveless shirts, go un-bathed, and drink beer all day while playingwith robots and reading Al Gore's biography. Nah. . . . I don't thinkso. It might be cool if Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots comes back though.

Beautiful...

Ya..beautiful..ya you saw it right..it might not sound in sync with thegenre of the film..sci-fi and beautiful..??..is it possible..??..well itoo had my doubts going into the movie expecting another of thoseaction- packed...less of a story..more of an over the top action packedmovie...but to my most pleasant surprise i was totally wrong... Beyondall those robotic action and hi-tech technology at the core its a storyof a father and a son..it is simply beautiful... Performances..wellHuge Jackman as usual is superb but its the kid who steals theshow...and the chemistry between the two is fantastic with the rightmixture of comedy and emotion... Screenplay was great..cinematographyawesome..and soundtrack was just too good right from the startingsong.."All my days...".. Its a genuine family entertainer withsomething for everyone...Do yourself a favor and watch this one..thismovie deserve to be watched..TWO thumbs up for thisone.."ATOM..ATOM..ATOM..!!"

Steel is probably the only real thing in this movie…

…The rest of it, it's just too unreal. So this proposal may work forkids and I don't disregard that fact, but there's nothing solid for anadult in it, other than the beautiful Evangeline Lilly, or I guess HughJackman for girls. And please consider I have no preconceived ideasabout this movie, I watched Transformers and I actually thought It waspretty good and entertaining, but this one here didn't feel that way.First off, sentiments. If the relationship between the father and theson is important for the story, develop it, and if not, just don't putit in there, but to see characters showing great feelings for eachother out of the blue and with no explanation whatsoever really remindsme of a B-class 80's action movie. Well, this is not a B movie giventhe budget and these are not the 80's. This movie spills cheese allover in the wrong decade.

Surprisingly good.

Okay, Real Steel is cheesy. But it hides a little something foreveryone, along with some surprisingly deep messages on the way. It's the future! Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) was once a boxer, one ofthe best. Was, of course, until the sport of robot boxing took over thespotlight as more entertaining. Now, he rides from place to place, trying desperately to get some money. That is until he learns that hisex-girlfriend is dead, leaving him with an eleven-year-old tech-savvyson, Max. The boy's mom will take custody of him, but only at the endof summer. This is how an adventure starts, and when Max finds Atom, anold sparring bot in a junkyard, it only picks up speed. Despite thefact that Atom is not build to fight, Charlie and his son have no otherchoice left - they will have to make do with a small, weak robot. Andwith the ex-boxer teaching him to fight, who knows how far they willget?Real Steel makes no sense. Really. In fact, it's quite possible thatyou'll spend half the movie wondering about how the robot works andwhy, exactly, is Hugh Jackman using voice control instead of a remote. If you can look past the ridiculous plot, however, you'll see a storyabout how a boy reunites with his dad and how archaic beats the modern.Kids will enjoy a movie about 1000-pound robots beating up each otherwhile the adults will appreciate it for the story.See it. You'll be surprised at how much you enjoy a movie about boxingrobots.

Awesome

I am a Hugh fan of Hugh Jackman (pun was intended). OK, so this reviewmight be a bit biased because of that. But Real Steel is a great moviebecause it has a balanced mixture of stories of scifi genre, romanticelements, life of a struggling man (a father and lover at that), andfights.I am getting goosebumps at many of the emotional scenes, and almostdrop a tear at the end when Hugh fights. The ability to do that to me,is an indication of how this movie can delve into your inner soul andtouch it lightly.I wish there will be a Real Steel 2 with same actors.

You Will Be Cheering At The End

In the vain of "Over The Top" (Sylvester Stallone, 1987), "Rocky" andeven "Transformers" comes a movie that will have you standing andcheering. Yes the story has been told before and yes we are confrontedwith some cliché moments, nevertheless Real Steel is a winner. It is ahard hitting (literally), feel good movie. The fight scenes are verywell choreographed ,thanks to the influence of Sugar Ray Leonard, andthe acting was just as good. Robots beating each other senseless, a great story, good actors andsome good humor everything a movie needs to be entertaining and that itwas. As Roger says: TWO THUMBS UP...WAY UP!!!

The perfect Father-Son movie.

...I just got back from seeing this one.You take a kids love of giant robots, combine it with a teen-to-adultmale's love of Mixed-Martial Arts or Boxing, you add in a loser-dad whofinds himself in the discovery of the person that is his son andPRESTO: I am pretty sure this may be the perfect father-son bondingmovie for this current generation.Hugh Jackman gives a pretty solid performance, and the kid manages tostay JUST this side of annoying, and remains likable and tolerablethroughout. Heck, I think he's the perfect avatar for a 10 year old kidto experience this movie through. What kid WOULDN'T love finding theirown fighting robot in the mud, fixing it up and putting it out there todominate?Really likable rock'em'sock'em riff on ROCKY.I do have to say that the scene where Jackman's character gets beat upIS a bit on the intense side. Some younger viewers may be upset by it.However, the rest of the movie is pure Father-Son bliss!

Cookie cutter film with quite a bit of themes borrowed from other movies

One can actually predict the film's ending right off the bat: leadcharacter is down in the dumps:alcohol abuse and gets a chance toredeem himself before hitting rock bottom. Finds out he has a kid andremembers his own qualities that had gotten him to the top back whenpeople used to fight people. They learn and grow together as father andson while overcoming obstacles together. Insert Rocky IV ending. The movie does pay tribute to Rock em sock em robots and the musicappeals to the younger crowd featuring Eminem. What stands out in the movie are the "moments" which the actorsportrayed quite well. The acting in this movie was very convincing anddrew in the audience to keep the movie flowing. The only part of themovie that another poster had brought out was that there was lesstechnical input from Haley. She plays the stereotypical supportivefemale role that Hollywood seems to perpetuate rather than empower. Ithink that if there was more character development on her end: maybehave her include some refinishing touches to Atom before the finalfight then I would have been satisfied with all of the charactersfitting in with the movie.all in all: 6/10 but the acting gave it an extra point.

One more step down and Jackman will be on the WWE's payroll. Pure garbage.

I guess now we know how far the studios will go to promote theirunoriginal stuff. Isn't it time someone sends a message to the oldbored execs in Hollywood? Like, if you're out of ideas why not just gointo retirement and have younger people give it a shot. This story is really a ripoff of Stallone's "Over the top" (1987)...IMDb summary: "Lincoln Hawk (Stallone) is a struggling trucker who'strying to rebuild his life. After the death of his wife, he tries tomake amends with his son who he left behind years earlier. Upon theirfirst meeting, his son doesn't think too highly of him until he entersthe nation-wide arm wrestling competition in Las Vegas." Micro brainswill surely enjoy the movie. At least Stallone had the excuse that itwas the 80's! This movie is just plain bad, shouting, bad acting, violent and unoriginal. Dakota Goyo can act and I can only hope theindustry doesn't make a new Shia out of him - give him something withsome heart please. The money is already on the table for a sequel to this, in 2014, so theforces that be are playing hard to "make this happen". Real reviewersit's time to fight back and make a duty out of reviewing movies; createan account on IMDb and express yourselves and rate the movies accordingto what you really think. Reviewing by real peers is in jeopardy nodoubt. It's a fight between the real truth and the truth peddlers ofHollywood and their kickback eating trols. They had body parts leftover from TF, the rights to a story with the possibility of riding onthe popularity of Twilight Zone by saying it had been shown there, andthey needed a "tear in the eye" touch so they called in Spielberg withhis stuff from I Robot, and if the boy brings his girl to the movie ohwell let's cast Jackman so at least she gets to see him if they don'tmake out. For the family, well they have PG-13 and a Disney logo.Seriously, a family movie? Robots viciously tearing themselves apartbut it's not real violence because it's remote controlled robots? Thisis Walt's vision? Please. A poster looking like Timberlake in front ofOptimus Prime. A pose reminiscent of the Karate kid. Ripping offStallone's movies, ad placement all over, an outlet for a dying rapindustry, testosterone shouting sweaty people. The money is on thetable...do you want 3 of these? It's time to say "take your money back,we won't stand for that "low" a cinema industry". At least Stallone hasa heart, even in "Over the top" or "Rocky" - Stallone wrote Rocky - yeshe did - he imagined something. Hollywood has no more heart norcreativity. These people will milk a dead cow as much as 3 times over with noremorse. And then those people want us to care for their intellectualproperty and treat it as art whereas it's just entirely disposable. Please ask for more from that industry and reward artists who haven'tbeen tamed into making robot parts for a living and vote for my commentso that people will know. On a side note I noticed people bringingtheir children as young as 7 years old to see such a movie - and that'sreal sad; I'll be frank with you, I really feel the religious crowdtrying to promote the movie, commenting on the fact that there is nosexual component in the movie, saying there is only a bit of "language"- but violence is OK for them, abusive men are OK for them, as long asthis is sugarcoated in the end... no you will not censor me. Thestandard for a good movie is a movie without sex and language... yet wewouldn't be here if it wasn't for sex and language because that's whathuman beings are about. Political correctness is akin to censorship, especially when applied to an art form. There would be more of us here, and less people isolated if it wasn't for their acceptance of violenceand their judgmental, aseptic fairy tale vision of the world. Pleaseask for human movies that encompass our true and full varied nature.Ask for some honesty. You see, one solution for Hollywood is "degrowth". There is no suchthing as a global cinema. Do you think it appeals to everyone fromevery culture to see rednecks screaming and lashing out at robots withrap music and a dysfunctional family? Hollywood is a steel reelmonster, swallowing talent in their studio sweatshops and milking theirheart into cash. By releasing the artists (actors, designers, cg,costumes and all) into a real human ecosystem i.e. the place where theywant to live and be, they will be able to truly enrich our liveslocally by creating something new and young people with differentskills will help them market, produce, broadcast and peer review it,and everyone will get a share. This is sustainable art. But we have tostand up for that. Please think about this. Thank you!

Rocky with Robots

This is a thoroughly enjoyable film. It borrows heavily from the Rockyfranchise and the story is clichéd and predictable but the concept, execution and cast make this film work. There's nothing here that you haven't seen before. Washed up boxer getscrack at World title. But there are a few deviations from the theme tomake it interesting and worthwhile. The CGi is brilliantly done and the fight sequences are excellent. Therobots look convincing and you can't help but feel a real affection forthe main protagonist at the end. There are no distractions to the mainplot. No love stories to complicate matters needlessly. Just straighthardcore action all the way.A perfect Saturday night beer and popcorn movie.

An FFG (fun and feel good) movie for the family.

When I watched 'Super 8', a Dreamworks studios production, I loved itfor about the first three quarters of it, then it fizzled due to lamemonster effects (too much déjà-vu); I was hoping 'Real Steel' would notdo the same. It didn't; it worked all the way through. From the earlyconfrontation between a raging bull and an almost worn out robot (greatspecial effects) to the closing fight between the undefeated superboxing robot Zeus and the underdog 'Atom'. The first robot to ever havebeen credited with having soul, R2D2, to the cute robot Wall-E, who hadoodles of it, here Dreamworks made Atom have a little soul. That's veryHollywood, but the Hollywood we can still like.As story lines go, the IMDb one pretty much captures the essentialplot. It's a family movie, within certain limits; it may depend on theage of your child (children), because there is violence in boxing.A father redeeming himself with his son who he abandoned ten or moreyears earlier can make for a fair feel good movie; the bad guys are notthat bad nor despicable because it's not that kind of movie. The funparts are fun enough and the special effects are all well done. Thecast did its job well; Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo worked theircharacters to the limit and that's most of the movie. The ratings do itjustice.. well audience ratings anyway. I enjoyed it and hope you dotoo.

Real Steel actually shows Real Heart. This one is for both the kids and parents!

"Real Steal" is based on the 1956 short story called "Steel" by RichardMatheson (a visionary director and writer who wrote other great filmslike "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve, "What Dreams May Come"with Robin Williams, and "I Am Legend" with Will Smith) and trust methis film is well worth watching at the BIG screen.IMDb summary: "Set in the near future, where robot boxing is a topsport, a struggling promoter feels he's found a champion in a discardedrobot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he discovers he has an11-year-old son who wants to know his father." My summary: "Welcome to a world where a displaced former boxer mustcome to grips with his past career and create a new future in the robotboxing arena. Along the way, Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) learns whatit means to accept responsibility and be a father to his son Max(Dakoto Goyo) by discovering that "Real Steel" is from the heart." Plot/Storyline: The movie picked up the solid and refreshing idea fromthe short story "Steel" which breathes life into the characters andaction sequences. Although, there was nothing mind-boggling likeinception, Real Steel did have its humorous and uplifting moments thatgave it sparkle and character! 7/10 Cinematography/CGI: Filming is the place which often makes or breaks afilm after the storyline is concerned...Real Steel did not disappointin this arena. The Animatronic robots built for the film and the motioncapture technology were state-of-the-art. You started to even "feel"sorry for the robots that were getting pummeled into the ground. 9/10 Acting/Action: Acting and action sequences were another great elementto this film. Hugh Jackman and Dakoto Goyo both act a great father andson duo. In addition, I really enjoyed the range of emotions: thetension, anxiety, joy, and even the cocky arrogance...You watch themovie and you will know what I am talking about. 8/10 Overall Shock and Awe: What is the last movie that you heard peopleclapping not once, not twice, but at least three times? Yes, my showinghad an audience of parents, children, grandparents, and teenagers, andall of us were cheering and clapping for Charlie, Max, and Atom manytimes throughout the movie! 9/10Go ahead and take your family out for this one, its an inspiring filmthat will stick with you long after the show is over!

Review of Real Steel

Movies about ring fighters have always been popular – just remembertitles of multi Oscar winning movies like Rocky, the Wrestler, theFighter, Million Dollar Baby etc. Shawn Levy, director probably bestknown for Night at the Museum, also decided to make one, this timeabout...robots. Yup, in close future (2020) robot boxing is a newincredibly fascinating hype. Our protagonist Charlie Kenton (played byHugh Jackman, known from movies like...oh come on, everyone knowsJackman from somewhere, whether it is X-men or Australia) is a boxerforced to retire because of growing popularity of roboboboxing. Charlie could not keep away from boxing, so he joined new wave, though,he is experiencing not the best stage of his life: sleeping in histruck together with old pieces of junk he uses for various meaninglessfights, falling into debts and, what is worst, losing robots inbattles. At this stage, out of the blue, Charlie's abandoned son comesinto his life, surprising Charlie himself. Of course, raffish ex-boxeris far from being a good father, but this is where father and sonrelationship begins to emerge, and they emerge by doing the samerobo-boxing together. Hugh Jackman is one of the most popular guys in modern Hollywood, menthink he is cool thanks to roles like Wolverine and Van Helsing, womenlove his charisma and appearance. What is best, he fits in thishot-headed, careless, but deep down inside kind hearted guy's roleperfectly. Seems like he was born to do roles like Charlie Kenton. However, Jackman is not the only guy who shines in Real Steel. DakotaGoyo, playing Charlie's son Max, gives really impressive show, beingonly 12 years old, he outperforms most of the actors two or three timesolder and more experienced than him. Chemistry between Goyo and Jackmanworks here well; their problematical father and son relationship looksbelievable and true. This kid might have hell of a career if hecontinues working on his talent and skills. Also, Evangelina Lillyfinally escaped from mysterious lost island and joined the crew.Though, she had not much space in the plot to expose herself, therewere a few scenes to show her potential; she was a nice touch to thismovie overall. Probably the most important stuff to mention in a robot movie isspecial effects and visuals. Real Steel shines here too, robotanimations have never looked so realistic; add huge variety of totallydifferent robot designs, most of the time reflecting their master'spersonality, and you'll get really great looking portion of action.Camera work is also worth applauds, beautiful landscapes combined withsuperb lighting makes Real Steel true eye candy. Sound of the movies is pretty rarely discussed as a separate part, butReel Steel's sound work deserves a paragraph. Fight sounds do not notleave you any chance to doubt that this is how bashing other robot'shead sounds like. Soundtrack, a powerful combination of hip hop/rapmusic (songs by Eminem, Timbaland and other famous names) and rock (FooFighters, Tom Morello) can easily make you blood boil on every fightyou see on the screen. It might sound almost idyllic so far, but not everything is so perfect. The weakest point of Real Steel is its plot; it can be predicted fromvery first 15 minutes, as soon as you understand what this movie is allabout. Careless father's and son's reconnection theme has been touchednumerous times before, fighting and climbing to the top is also not anew thing, too. Struggle between human's mind and artificial intellectis one of the most unique aspects, but I, Robot did it almost a decadeago. So, Real Steel is basically a mix of stories seen or heard before, dressed in new clothes, damn attractive clothes well put together. Real Steel is far more than just a mix of Rocky and Transformers; it isvery atmospheric boys action movie, which surely leaves you entertainedfor whole 130 minutes and it passes like half an hour. It probably willnot get an Academy Award or make a change in film history, but itsurely is one of best movies this fall.

Great entertainment full of stereotypes and highly predictable

First things first. If you are looking for solid entertainment that istechnically brilliant with very good boxing action - then look nofurther than this. You will have a very good time in the cinema seatenjoying some popcorn and a cool drink to go with it.Don't think about what you see too much, though. Because then you mayfind out that many characters in the movie are stereotypes you haveseen before many times. There's the father who is not keen on his sonat first. But this changes over time, of course. A boxer beyond thebest of his days. An evil thug from the past messing around. And mostof all a little wunderkind with a cool attitude and language way beyondhis years. He is e.g. capable of helping to repair robots.Another problem is predictability. Even though the fight scenes arevery well executed, I was able to figure out the outcome of everysingle one of them well before their end. Even the final fight is astraight rip-off of one of the greatest boxing movies ever made: ...Ehem, I did promise no spoilers... But you will know what I mean onceyou see the grand finale. So, bottom line: Rock solid entertainment with great visuals. You canbe thoroughly entertained if you forgive this movie its stereotypes andpredictability.

Absolutely...awesome!!

The minute the movie ended, I turned to my husband (who had alreadywatched it 3 times) and I said "let's go out and get more tickets, Iwant to watch it again!!". And I wasn't lying! What's best about it, isI can bring my 6 year old boys with me next time. There is nothingscary, gory, bloody or inappropriate for kids in it. There is one scene in which Kenton gets beat up but it is shot in sucha way, that honestly, my kids see more gore and fight when they watchBakugan... so no biggie. That's pretty much the only scene in the filmthat I would have qualms about. The CGI is excellent, one of the very best I have ever seen. You reallydo think the robots are right there with the actors. Both Jackman andDakota Goyo (the little boy) deliver really well. Jackman seems to lovefantasy characters (see X-men) so he fits right in, in this movie. Hehas you convince he is a loser, drunk and filmsy character...I really wish when the movie comes out on DVD, there is some sort ofextended version because I would certainly love to see more of it!!

Empty Cast Iron Exhibition

The cast: Jackman in the role of an absentee father, leading anirresponsible life and taking unnecessary and miscalculated risks as arobotrainer. Dakota Goyo in the role of a bratty loudmouth kid whokeeps making demands with the most obnoxious of tones in an attempt toredefine coolness. CGI in the role of Atom and a number of moreTransformers transformed into Roboboxers. E Lilly in the role of decentbut distant gym-owner hottie. The story: Basically the kid just lost his mother, doesn't ever seem toshed a tear, instead gets all offended that the father he had never metagrees to take care of him for money. The father seems to find itheroically macho to persistently place large bets on random fights withmoney he doesn't have. Their hopes for money/victory/unison are finallypinned on a more human-like (therefore obviously spiritually andphysically superior) retro robofighter reminiscent of a mute Sonny fromI Robot. After a predictable tirade ofwinning-at-first-and-then-facing-hardships, in which the CGIsuccessfully impresses and helps distract from the unbelievably poorsci-fi backstory attempt and the cheesy-line acting, Bubmblebee facesIron Dolph Lundgren in the final match.Random thoughts: In a world so obsessed with political correctness, itevades my comprehension how the stereotype of a dysfunctional kid withdespicable behaviour apparently correlated with being raised by asingle parent has become so casually acceptable. I know plenty of kidswith only one or no parents who are confident yet polite, and who cancommunicate using reason while maintaining their childhood enthusiasm. Also, how do the robots get infused with willpower? I assume they do,otherwise I don't see why the Rocky-wannabe countdown drama is there.Either it's broken or not. Perhaps it's via the metal door convenientlylocated at the lower back of the robot through which the one criticalwire cut by all the pummelling can be accessed for re-circuiting.I wish I could be more sympathetic about the movie, but the charactersmake it so hard.

Predictable

If you think this is kind of a Rocky Balboa movie, you're totallyright.Real Steel is a soap opera made into a movie. Family values, dad gonewrong and from that on you know how it goes. This is Rocky Balboa wrapped in I Robot, with a little bit of reallycheesy dialogs.I even heard of people who cried with Real Steel, really?, I meanREALLY?!. I can't imagine how could you cry with this if you know howit's gonna be from the first scene!. I hope this is made like this onpurpose, cause if it isn't, God, that went really wrong.Poor, this is simply poor.
