Story Line
Plot Summary:
Ten years after witnessing her older sisters brutal murder, Jenny Traylor leaves her hometown in North Carolina to start her freshman year at the University of New York City. Still traumatized by her sisters death and struggling with crippling agoraphobia, Jenny tries to cope with the overwhelming city and figure out her new life. When Jennys over-enthusiastic Resident Advisor organizes a Welcome Week scavenger hunt, Jenny is reluctantly persuaded to join the game. But as she and her new friends decipher the cryptic clues texted to their cell phones - clues that lead them through darker and increasingly remote parts of the city - it becomes terrifyingly clear how high the stakes have become. Someone is hunting for real.

You did this?This film takes a whole lot of time to get started. There is a lot oftalking, and nothing else in the first hour.It isn't until the end that we see the slasher. Anyone looking fordisplays of flesh that is typical of slasher films in the past aregoing to be sorely disappointed. Despite numerous opportunities, thefilm is as chaste as a nunnery.Lots of blood and a predictable ending.The acting is pretty good throughout, so it will keep you interestedenough to stay the course and find out who the killer is, if youhaven't guessed before. |

Good, but nothing I haven't seen beforeRed Hook is, at best, a watchable Scream, I know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, type slasher movie, with a few flaws. I was surprised Red Hook was only 120 mins. in length, because I felt like it was 2 hours at the most. I was already thinking that they should've edited out the prolonged character/victim intros and just cut to the start of the scavenger hunt. It just dragged out even more when you already knew who the killer was (Yeah, I figured it out before the killing started, just like the rest of you). But the acting is good, the kill scenes are effective, though lacking any real "guts" for any respectable gore hound and has nice little pop soundtrack. Not really a bad effort, but just watchable, nothing memorable. The makers of Red Hook should really use this film as something to look back on, note the flaws, and if they're filming any more slasher films, improve on it if they desire to be successful in this already overstretched genre. |
