res 4......more like the matrix 4

where did it all go wrong? This was not the best game adaption to beginwith, for me silent hill is still the closest game to movie effort. ButI really love the first 3 resident evil movies, the third being mypersonal favourite so when I seen a trailer a few months ago forafterlife I could not wait to see this. Maybe that was the problem, expectation.I have read some other reviews on this site and I am puzzled, maybe Imissed the point or I'm being to hard on the film? But for me the gamesand the previous 3 films had all being about atmosphere: this has noneat all. It just rambled along until the next "slow-motion just for thesake of it" scene, of which there are a lot (id guess 20mins of thefilm is slow motion).I just don't know what happened to the series, as I said I am a hugefan of both the games and the films, barred this one of course, andcan't understand how people can be so happy with this poor rip off of afilm. There are so many direct rip off bits from the matrix, theobvious ones being the trinity style jump out the window from thetrailer and even Wesker looks and moves like an agent. But this said, the easiest job in the world is being a critic. I amjust so disappointed that it turned out like this, but I will justcross my fingers and hope against hope the nest one is a lot lotbetter.

Awesome

I love Resident Evil. I started playing the game when I was about 10 years old. I love scary things and I loved this game. When I found out they made a movie about the game I was blown away. Even though they do not keep all the characters from the game in the movies, I still can't keep myself from watching them.I have seen every one in theaters so far. It has to be my most favorite movie of all time, (besides Gone with the Wind Classic). Anyways off track. The Resident Evil Movies are Awesome and Rock sooo much. They will always be the best!!!!!

More for the diehard fans (some spoilers below)

To begin, movies based on video games will never be as good as the video games, they are homage to a great franchise, but Resident Evil has done the best I think. Also to be noted, many thought that there were many things not explained or didn't make sense in this film installment. However, it MUST be known that in this particular movie, elements are ripped straight out of the game, mostly from Resident Evil 5. If you have played Resident Evil 5, this movie was made for you. RE5 is where the Executioner came from, Las Plagas (the new zombies), the device found stuck to Claire, Wesker's guard dogs that split in half, and his super powers, all the way down to his outfit, some of his dialogue and action moves: ALL from RE5. The way he tosses around Chris and Claire during the ending fight is the same as the game too. If you have not played RE5, Afterlife may seem confusing or random. The climactic scene with fighting Wesker could have been longer, but was still done fairly well. This movie was more directed toward the diehard fans (like me) I think, which is why those of us who have played the game don't need anything explained. We know Chris (well portrayed by Wentworth Miller) and we know Claire, and we definitely know Wesker. We know all about Las Plagas and how deadly that Executioner's axe can be. If anything, this movie should make you want to play the games. There will definitely be a fifth movie (judging by the end of Afterlife) and I am excited because all diehard fans should be. Perhaps the moviemakers decided to cater more to the long-time fans this time, and I shout out a big thank you to that! :)

The thrill is long gone...

Its hard to write an accurate review of what I just saw in this movie.A mix of all kind, that are irrelevant to the plot. Storyline is lostin a sequence of zombie attacks, where in you find that some mutantshave even evolved. They wear a hood and a huge Axe. Mila tries to acthere, but you do notice she isn't giving her best. I don't blame her, because the script has no end. Never ending resident evil...zombies,umbrella, blade 3 villain theft. I do believe this would make anawesome series, but to make sequel after a sequel, it loses itsfreshness. I like Mila, but Alice here looked like a soccer momfighting those zombies!Lame Matrix moves compel me to give this movie a 4/10 because we'veseen this before. Still, no true conclusion in this episode.

Total nirvana in 3D

This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) I've always been a fan of the Resident Evil video game series, I've played every Playstation iteration of it and loved them all. When they made the first RE movie I thought for sure it would be just as horrible as every other game-based movie, but much to my surprise I really enjoyed it and have also enjoyed the sequels. Sure the movies are campy, but that's a large part of their charm in my opinion. We recently purchased a 3D capable Sony Bravia and this was the first movie I popped into it to check the 3D capabilities. Wow! WOW!!!! WOOOOOOW!!!! I was blown away from the very first scene just like I was when I saw it in the theater. This movie isn't just a 3D-ized version of RE, it was clearly made to be 3D from the ground up. Every scene makes jaw-dropping use of the technology, I just can't say enough good things about what they've accomplished in this movie. All the viewing planes are fully utilized- the scenes have an amazing amount of depth and there is enough usage of pop-out elements to keep things interesting without seeming carnival-like. Some of the landscape scenes would be right at home in a National Geographic 3D episode. This is the movie to get out when you want to show your friends what 3D is all about! I won't review the movie storyline itself since that's been done sufficiently by others here, I'll just say that I personally loved it although I can see how it might not appeal to everyone, especially those unfamiliar with the RE games or those who don't care for zombie movies in general. But whether or not you like the content, the dazzling use of 3D is sure to impress nearly anyone. Here's hoping that Hollywood catches on and brings us more eye-candy like this rather than trying to force 3D onto a movie like they did with the Last Airbender disaster.

Is it really over?

This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Milla Jovovich does another excellent job in the role of "Alice". Are the humans ever going to get the upper hand? Will the Umbrella corporation and the zombies for that matter, ever be destroyed? Watch the movie if you do not already know!

Great movie

This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) My husband and myself both like the Resident Evil series, so when this came out, we had to buy it. We enjoyed it so much that I actually bought a second copy to give as a Secret Santa gift to a coworker and he was thrilled! The production value is fantastic, it looks great on our 3D TV, and the movie itself is awesome!

Not bad but not great

There isn't much more to say about this chapter than what has already been said in the product description and reviews. I'm giving it 3 stars because it delivered exactly what we expect from a RE movie. Action, action, action but no real substance. It really seemed like this movie was one of those "We'll force you to make this movie or we won't let you make the other movie you want." feeling. It felt like filler. I don't normally write short, lack of information, reviews but there just isn't any more to say than what has already been said. Needed to know before watching...Remember how in the last movie, Alice was now really powerfull and it looked like she would have an army of Alice's? The film makers decided, lets have everyone get drugged (yet again) and have their memories erased and this will explain why we are making yet another film. What??!! Wesker hits Alice with a serum to make her human again? But..He can still track her, she still survives a plane crash (just walks away)? When fighting, she still seems to have these abilities but they seemed dulled down. It was just something that bugged me about the plot from the start. Buy it if you are a fan of Milla and the series but if you arent' a big fan, let it go. Rent it instead of buy it.

(2012-04-22 10:08:12)

Ilogical scenes made this hard to enjoy

Things like:-Alice waiting to approach wesker so he could try to kill her, instead of destroying the (seemingly) only getaway for wesker.-Having all of alice's clones die fighting at a single facility- Wesker who claimed to be bettter than Alice at being superhuman is too injured by the plane crash to kill Alice, yet she walks away with a limp-How people, after 7 years, are still living in a prison AND have running water-having an elevator go into free fall and hit water DOES NOT stop you from suffering massive injuring (more than likely, you'd be dead after falling 30 stories)-Alice not being super human but performing super human stunts, like falling off a building the way she did (i'm an engineer, physics says that a regular person would die)-How a random big zombie happen to find a funky big ass hammer to suit him. Obviously he didnt create it himself-WHy/How on earth did that big zombie just happen to be at the shower and somehow hide from everyone while they were debating on whether or not to use the tunnel-Why the hell is every zombie trying to break in the prison in the first place?- "It's not a lie... its a TRAP!" (as they are walking into said "trap" instead of walking away)- Alice walks into the room where wesker was so she is in plain sight, yet chris and claire somehow knew of a backdoor they could sneak through- wesker, being super strong and faster than bullets doesnt figure out that he could take the guns from his enemies hands and kill them within 2 seconds, instead he decides to perform a little dance with claire, chris and the bullets- Wesker, while trying to (eat?) alice, takes 5 seconds to reveal his monster mouth giving alice a chance to kill him, not once, but TWICE!!! Everyone in their right mind knows he could have easily pinned her down, yet decided to let her try to kill him two times...- While on the floor, knowing wesker has super healing powers, just keep shooting him and walk away... obvioulsy they expected him to wake up and take a plane (they planted the detonation bomb in the plane). But who is to say they also knew he wasnt going to keep attacking??- Everyone were psychics as they knew exactly which plane to plant the bomb into- They woke up over 2000 people and planned on feeding them what again? zombie meat?- umbrella knew they evacuated arcadia, yet alice decides to use their system which ultimately leads to having an army come attack themi'm not the type to critique movies like this, but this was super annoying to me...

I hate this movie.

Nothing can better sum up how I feel than that simple phrase - I just hate this movie - I hate everything about it. I hate that it came at this point after EXTINCTION gave the franchise a surprisingly strong boost. The movie is a travesty from the get-go. Well, that's not quite true - actually, the opening credits sequence is pretty cool, ending with the crash zoom out to the heavens. But, it's when we come back down, and we have this overblown action opening that the problems begin. After the poorly edited opening action sequence, we are shown how Wekser (ah, Albert...was there ever a more annoying villain in film OR video game!?) uses an injection to remove Alice's T-Virus, and hence, her "abilities" - you know, the filmic excuse for her to be able to pull off all her Matrix Rip-Off moves. This seemed like a very promising concept - and it made sense, for a moment. Open with the crazy action so fans get their fix, then strip our heroine of her advantage and put her back into the danger zone.Well, this proves to be short-lived, for IMMEDIATELY following this scene, Alice survives a head-on airplane collision. Not just survives, but walks out of the wreckage unscathed. Indeed, the entire duration of the film, you'd have no idea she was fully human again, aside from a knife injury near the end. Why they introduced this plot point, then never explored it is beyond me.The film is rife with these kinds of "go nowhere" plot points. In the second act, we are introduced to Wentworth Miller (from FOX's PRISON BREAK- someone must have thought it hilarious to introduce him incarcerated in a prison cell) who insists he knows the way out. After the characters finally trust him to let him out, he promptly leads them to a door with an ATV inside ... a door anyone of the characters could have found at any time. And, this proves to lead nowhere anyway - the ATV is non-operational. So, again, a pointless plot element.Furthermore - this is a Zombie movie, right? I ask only because the zombies are barely in the movie. Other than a final influx in the final act, they only pop up here and there for a quick shoot out, and that's about it.Ali Larter, who brought a fresh element to EXTINCTION, is relegated to the sidelines for the bulk of the film with a convenient "memory loss" theme. She only comes back in the end for a quick "look how bad-as$ I am" fight scene. Well, it all boils down to a final battle with Wesker, who is apparently 100% indestructible - which means one more boring element added to his already boring character. And, after the obligatory final action scene, we are left with the threat of yet ANOTHER sequel to come, as our characters are literally left facing an all-out assault (again, not by zombies, but by humans). My problem with this film is that it just highlights the overall weakness of the entire franchise. It was based on a series of games that were themselves based on a genre of b-movies. Yet, none of these films really plays into the zombie-horror mythos - rather, these are thinly veiled Matrix-wannabe action flicks. Constant slow-motion, humans displaying inexplicable kung-fu powers and imperviousness to injury, and plots that don't even measure up to video game "standards" - that's what this franchise has come to represent - and while EXTINCTION gave us a brief glimmer of hope, AFTERLIFE plunges us back into reality - this is just a weak franchise that needs to be put down. Sadly, it makes money - and that's all that matters to the producers - and really, who can blame them?Poor Milla, meanwhile ... I imagine her at night sitting on the floor in the corner of the room, hugging her knees to her chest and rocking slowly as she contemplates the state of her career, muttering over and over to herself "I still have THE FIFTH ELEMENT ... I still have THE FIFTH ELEMENT..." until she finally falls into a restless sleep.

Resident Evil: Afterlife + Trilogy before it......

Many people can agree that the Resident Evil Movies don't follow thegames exactly, but they do have elements of the game in the story. Whatpeople need to understand is that the movies are taking the franchiseto a new level, it would be pointless to make a live action movie thatfollows the game in every way. The movie versions are an adaptation ofthe games and twists things to fit into a theatrical format. ResidentEvil: Afterlife does that well, by turning Alice back into thecharacter in the first movie, she kicks ass and keeps it human, ratherthan super-human. The 3D was a new take on the series and I think itwas nice, but it would have been fine without it too. It seems that thecraze right now in movies is 3D, but some movies should go without itand let the story bring in the audience not the gimmicks of 3D. The 3Din RE:A was exceptional, but sometimes no surprise, like the Axe manthrowing the ax towards the screen. The movie takes place after RE:Ewhich is good that the movies follow close behind each other. The storyis basically Alice trying to find life after the world goes to hell.Yes, there is zombies, but the focus of this movie is ending theUmbrella Corporation. Many elements of this movie takes scenes from theRE Games 4 & 5. Out of all the RE movies made this had moresimilarities to the game than the previous films. People shouldremember that these filmmakers make these films to entertain, so otherpeople that have negative things to say about this movie or any othermovie for that matter should shut up and enjoy the movie rather thananalyzing every little thing.

Milla Jovovich rocked on since part 1 love her acting style.

Great actress great movie I never get tired of the next zombie movie hey after all they are the living dead it would be awfully hard to rid all of them it will surely take some time with the small number of surviving people there are I hear rumors that there could be 5 more resident evil movies count me in to buy all 5 blu rays as soon as they hit the shelves. Shame WB won't pull there heads out of there behinds and make the Matrix 4 everyone keeps asking for it just throw down the cash grab the crew and make it! Does this studio want to make money or go bankrupt whatever it takes you want to beat box office records that is your ticket... But anyways back to Resident Evil they kind of left us hanging with Milla getting that shot in the neck did she lose her strength and ability from this shot or did she in fact have no reaction it seemed as if she was weaker directly after that but hard to say in the end.

The Umbrella Corporation and Alice are never going away!

Maybe it's me but I can't get enough of this series. I know, I know....how many times can Alice (AKA Milla Jovovich) come back to stop the dastardly corporation known as Umbrella, which started the whole Zombie mess in the first place? And maybe it was just me, but I thought that this was the best one by far. Why....well, let me start with a brief synopsis of the movie. Alice tries to stop the leader of Umbrella (Wesler) by attacking him with several of her clones. After a showdown or all showdowns, it appears that she has been made human again (stripped of her supernatural powers) and she travels to what she thinks is salvation only to find a "mind altered" Claire who remembers nothing since they separated in the last movie. Following the clues where they go, they find a group of survivors who are living in an abandoned prison. Ironically, in the basement of the facility, in a cage, is Claire's brother who claims to know a way out of the prison. Of course it is not long before the mindless, yet ever hungry Zombies find a way into the facility and the survivors are running for their lives. Who will survive and who won't? That's for you to watch the movie and find out. What I liked about Resident Evil? Well, there were new characters, among them the sexy Wentworth Miller (Claire's brother) and Boris Kojoe (Luther West, an athlete). Maybe they were not new, but for someone who knows nothing about the video game or the story line that evolved from it, I was happy to see some newly introduced central characters. I also thought that they were brilliantly cast in their roles and brought an authenticity to their roles that I was surprised to see. I even liked the guy who played Wesler and thought that he brought a ruthlessness to the part that some may not have. There was even a gigantic executioner who appeared in the middle of the movie that was determined to kill them. He was awesome. And finally, there were wonderful special effects and several fight scenes that made the movie exciting and suspenseful at the same time. Not to mention a cliffhanger that will send lovers of the series to the movies in droves if there is another sequel. Whatever the formula, the creators of Resident Evil still have that winning formula that made the mindless Zombies theme work. I enjoyed it and would recommend it!

Plot less and useless...

Resident Evil: Afterlife was something i looked forward to see becausethe previous movies were bad so i decided to give this one a chance, oboy, was i wrong! this movie does not have any plot it just zombiekilling spree with no story or plot.Acting is just average, nothing special but at least they got thecourtesy to put characters form the video game, but still that won'tsave this movie it's just plot less and doesn't have any connectionwith the video game franchise(most movies based on a video game arelike this but at least they got a plot to back it up).The CGI was amazing specially the 3D effects if you're sitting in thefront row i guarantee you will get blown away, the slow motion mightbeen overused but hey it's Resident Evil for you.Overall just wait till it's out on DVD or just rent it, you will wasteyour money on this movie.

Resident Evil 5: 3/10

After 4 years of the so called evil corporation "Umbrella", we stillhaven't gotten tired of this particular franchise. As entertaining asit may seems, we might be getting a little tired of Mila Jovovich beingundefeatable (even though she doesn't have any powers in this film) bythe undead zombies. The plot is simple and straight forward. Alice(Jovovich) continues her journey on trying to destroy the wholeUmbrella Corporation. Joining her this time is Ali Larter (Heroes),Wentworth Miller (Prison Break), and Boris Kodjoe (Undercovers). Notthat this cast is any better than its previous instalment. Though itmay be in 3D, but few scenes actually worked in 3D. Paul W.S.Anderson's (directed the first Resident Evil) directing is as bad as itcan be. The camera angles weren't right and he just doesn't know whatto do with the material on his hands. Resident Evil: Afterlife mayserve as a treat for fans, but critics find this bad for your teeth.

Terrible

Had the potential to be a good film I'm a fan of the games and theprevious films I had some beef with but not that much but this putsimply is boke and I blame Paul W.S Anderson. No plot, serious lack ofcharacter development (which is very annoying considering its ChrisRedfields 1st appearance in film franchise), continuity errors galore, plot holes the size of the Grand Canyon, Hollywood jobbers IE peoplewho have no point other than no get killed taking up excess screentime, no plot oooo and did I mention no plot. Watse of time onlyredeeming feature is Milla Jovovich and tbh looking at the performanceI think even she said this is a waste of my time.

Not as good as it could get

The first 3 Resident Evils, to me, were the best movies ever made, andthat's why i gave them all 10 out of 10!This one was a disappointment: There's TOO much slow motion, it's veryshort and looks A LOT like the video games (which would be a goodthing, but it looks too much like a video game)! Also, there's barely astory behind the action and the characters are TOO fictional!I gave it a 5 out of 10 because it's Resident Evil, and Resident Evilis epic! If it were any other movie, i would probably give it a 3. Even though i said all of this, i recommend this movie because it'sResident Evil and it's still good, but i would try watching it in 3D,because it looks a lot better (that's the one thing good about themovie, the action parts look AMAZING in 3D).

(2012-04-05 18:57:32)

Try to remember, you're watching a video game!

I see that this title gets a lot of crap for being a re-hashed "who cares?" plot, featuring cardboard acting of yawn-provoking characters polished over with 3D special effects. ....True, but keep in mind, this IS an adaptation of a video game. Speaking as a long-time fan of the Resident Evil game series, I can certainly say that even though Afterlife may be arguably the weakest of the series, it's still packed with a lot of fun!If you've played Resident Evil 5, you'll recognize a lot of nods to the game, including fairly faithful adaptations of the "Majini" zombies, the ruthless Undertaker, and a pretty damn good interpretation of Albert Wesker in his final appearance. (Spoiler: I'm glad they didn't try to do Wesker's "final" final appearancein RE5; you know, the one where he melds his arm with a peice of twisted metal and chases you around a volcano?") And if you were one of the people who has had enough of Alice and her superhuman clones, relax, because it seems like they responded to all of the negative feedback in the first ten minutes of the movie, in which they not only rid Alice of her T-Virus powers, but also kill all of the clones in one shot. She's still the main character, but believe it or not, takes a backseat in the final battle, which features predominantly Chris and Claire Redfield, in yet another decently-adapted moment from RE5.As far as the 3D goes, I have to say I was pretty impressed. Among the recent surge of 3D in theaters, this was one of the few that was actually filmed in 3D, rather than being converted in post production, so it works.Overall, it's a fun movie that you don't have to invest too many brain cells in, and don't have to worry in the least about being scared witless afterward. These movies are basically like playing the video games without doing any of the work, so if you've had a rough day, they're a great way to unwind.

A disgrace to one of the greatest game series of all time!

This is a poor film. I love the games. This on the other hand isblasphemy. It tries to bring in elements of RE 5. So fans of the gamessay "at least it's like the game" I find this film quite insulting. Theonly reason I gave this 2 was because of Wesker (the bad guy for peoplewho don't know, since his name is never mentioned). I loved his cameohe just looks evil and was played very well, just a shame he has hardlyany screen time. Alice was played well, but I despise her character asshe has become the focus of the films and yet she has nothing to dowith the games. (Honestly why bother having her in series at all. WhenJill Valentine was a perfect heroine in the first game)The zombies were good even though they somehow got infected with theLas Plagas. They do give some jumpy moments however you never see themkill or eat anyone. Honestly I am watching a Zombie flick and we don'tsee them kill anyone. Oh and they dig underground, how have they learntto do that? The reason they dig, is so Anderson can have a clichédclaustrophobic tunnel scene. Which is useless. This film is an insult to the game, and the fact it has more gamereferences because the film series is tired and pretty much dead. HenceAlice being human and her clones destroyed so they can start the seriesall over again with more RE game references. It's just a shame. Thegame series were scary and very enjoyable and would had been a greatbase for a zombie horror series. Just a shame Anderson and hisfascination for Slow motion has tarnished the Resident Evil name. (Bythe way there is so many slow motion shots it is just ridiculous). So this is the end of my rant at this film the film series Anderson.Hope it helps. To be honest if you like the other films in this seriesyou will probably like this, where as me I think I will stick to myPlaystation games because they are more scary and enjoyable.
