Blu / PS3 issues

This review is from: Rio (Blu-ray/ DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I like this movie. It's no classic, but it keeps all of my four children entertained and it's not mind numbing. That said, I purchased the blu ray so that I could see the movie in its full HD glory. The blu copy skips horribly on my PS3. I read a review that stated that you could delete the BD Utility folder and fix the problem. I thought I was safe with this fix. Unfortunately, deleting said folder did not fix the problem. The kids enjoy the DVD, but the blu is just a coaster. That makes me feel angry, duped, and like I didn't get my money's worth.

very entertaining family film--beautiful to watch

Most of whether or not someone enjoys this movie is going to be really subjective, so I'll stick to what I consider to be objective: the look of the animation. Put simply, this is a visually stunning film. If they were looking to showcase the possibilities of high-definition animation to dazzle the sense, they succeeded entirely. It has a neat, fairly charming, and even refreshingly (somewhat) original story that I should think any adolescent or younger child will love, and it's got enough "ooh, shiny" factor to keep my two-year old entranced.

"The Real Deal"

This Movie was an A-grade cartoon animated movie. The movie Rio had thebest animated features with "Up and How to train your dragon," thetextures and the recreated physics of the movie itself. The plot was alittle out of balanced where it is true and the real trivia's whereMacaw's can't drink chocolate since it is toxic to them. Though themovie had exceptions and in some of the scenes, you can feel theanticipation all these voice actors and the details that help made thefilm put into this. This movie is also more recommended for peopleunder the age of 10. Anyone over 16 will probably not like it unlessyou like these kind of movies. ----- ------- ----- ---- ---------------PS: Make a number #2 cause #1 was "Triumphant." 10/10

Spectacular movie with only a few flaws.

Rio is a colorful treat for the kids and the adults alike. The movie kept me entertained all the way through. The story was wellthought out and entertaining. One of the bad things about the film was some of the characters. Thehumans in my opinion weren't that good and could have been developedmore. Tulio comes out as just plain annoying. Linda seems no more thana goofy nerd. I really thought that the best characters out of all thehumans was the young homeless kid who was doing his bidding at firstwith the bird smugglers. As far as the animals go I believe they were planned well. Nigel washandsomely devilish as the bad boy bird. Luis the Bulldog was anabsolute riot. And of course the main two Blu and Jewel were wonderfulas well. However the only real negative thing about this film is some of thesexual innuendo. Most of them will go over their heads but I don'tbelieve it was needed.

Digital Copy is awesome! Great family movie!

This review is from: Rio (Blu-ray/ DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) Having the digital copy of this movie is a HUGE plus! It was really easy to load onto my iPod and it is a life saver when we are stuck in a hospital office, in the car, wherever. I just hand my iPod to my son and he watches this movie. You NEED to have at least one movie on digital copy, it is a lifesaver with kids. This is an excellent family movie. My 2 year old son and my wife both love it. There are not many movies out there we feel comfortable watching together. There is good music, lots of animals which Jude loves (Dogs and birds). Lots of laughs which his parents love.I don't have a blue-ray player yet, but it's nice to have the blue-ray also so when I get one I will be able to test it out.Great deal!

Maybe the kids might like it, but overall a very generic and formulaic CGI animated movie that relies too much on wacky characters

This is a pretty bad family flick, however the kids might enjoy italthough I seen a lot of them get bored in theater and started towander off. The characters are over wacky all the time in order to getthe audience attention, but I lost interest very quickly. It's likewatching something dull, trying to be exciting and entertaining. Evenif a whole bunch of characters are constantly wacky and bouncing aroundall over the place. Now I enjoy watching CGI animated movies, but thisone just wasn't engaging at all. In fact I found myself checking myphone a couple of times. The jokes were also very forced and didn't getany laugh or chuckle from anyone, including the kid audiences.Everything about this CGI animated flick seemed overdone in a negativeway and so very generic to the point it becomes so very predictable.None of the characters in this was even all that likable or made meactually care for any of them. Plus the direction of it all is so veryformulaic.4/10

Fine movie, frustrating format

This review is from: Rio (Blu-ray/ DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) My son loves this movie. It is entertaining and has really enjoyable music throughout. My frustration, however, is with the playback functionality. You can fast-forward through the previews, but then you are FORCED to sit through the promotional reel about the "extras" on the disc. Anyone with a toddler knows that when you're turning a movie on, you want to be able to get right to the menu so you can start the movie, or even select a particular scene. It's annoying and unrealistic to expect viewers to watch this footage every. single. time. As a matter of principle, I will no longer purchase Blu Rays or DVDs from 20th Century Fox.

The animation is nice

I don't know why this just doesn't sit well with me. It has everythinggoing for it, a spectacular setting, better than average voice actingand a smooth and well told story.Maybe, it is because after seeing about 10 or more of these animatedtales, my standards are becoming too high. The story involving culturevs. nature has been told many times before and if you are going to tellit again, there has to be something more to it than that. The characters are for the most part pleasant, except for the twosidekick birds, voiced by Will I Am and Jamie Foxx. Not that there isanything wrong with having two jive-talking characters in an animatedmovie, but it has been done to death. It is nothing against the twoperformers, who do quite well.Normally, I am not a fan of animated musical numbers either, butluckily the songs here are snappy and doesn't take that much screentime. It is just that they are very similar to some I have seen inother animated features. So, on the positive, this is the by far the best animation from BlueSky I have seen yet. The plot, while not seen for the first time, movesat a snappy enough pace. There just wasn't any Wow! moments.

Just Lovely

I watched this movie on a lethargic Sunday night and must say that itwas the perfect fashion to bring to an end an otherwise lousy day. Infew words, Rio is a fantastically executed humorous flick packed withcute scenes and gorgeous animation. Though the movie was a bit obviousat times but the charming & highly amusing sequences don't let you takeyour eyes of the screen.Jesse Eisenberg's voice is amazingly immaculate for a bird and he doesa great job playing the role of the domesticated exotic bird BLU, whodoesn't know how to fly. And Anna Hathaway's voice was so sweetthroughout the movie that I actually fell in love with the characterJEWEL. NIGEL, their evil counterpart was well scripted and does presentwickedness. Needless to say, Jemaine Clement did one heck of a jobwhile lending his voice to the character. The scenes with the goofy monkeys were outstanding on the level ofclowning and were as good as the penguins of Madagascar. Moreover, thedrooling amigo the birds find during the end was definitely thehighpoint as far as the comic element in the movie is concerned. Finally, the animation deserves an accolade as it was just magnificentand gorgeous. The movie is filled with vibrant colors and dazzlingperformances. I truly wish I had watched it in 3D but 2D is not so badeither, in fact it is pretty awesome!!!

A great, colorful animation

"Rio", a new animated movie from the creators of "Ice Age", became verypopular recently. It doesn't surprise me - in my opinion, this is oneof the best animations of these times. Neither children nor adults willbe bored watching it - kids will adore the characters and pleasant forthe eye graphics, while their parents will enjoy the humor and music...but everyone loves the wonderful colors and beautiful views on Rio deJaneiro, of course! My opinion overall is very positive. The moviecontains some funny scenes (for example - birds' party!) as well assome nice songs; it has a really great climate.I hope they will create more movies like "Rio". This film is a stepforward in the technology and style of computer animations.

Great Animation Movie

This review is from: Rio (Blu-ray/ DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) Bought this movie for my wife, as we have seen it before, and she loves it. Great movie and the picture quality of the movie is great. The picture quality is usually great on animation movies anyways.

An animated delight

A rare bird is kidnapped from his adoring owner, who must try to retrieve him. Along the way, the bird encounters various delightful, and some not so delightful, characters. Top notch animation, colorful visuals, and prudent voice selections highlight this animated delight. The storyline and the humor will appeal to adults and children alike, as I found myself getting a few laughs out of this one. The 3D effect is outstanding, and this is a movie for which you will want to lay out the extra expense for the 3D glasses. You don't need a babysitter tonight, as the whole family will enjoy this one.

Movie night with Grandma

This review is from: Rio (Blu-ray/ DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) grandchildren from 2yrs to 10 yrs all loved Rio, too expensive to take 8 grandchild to the movie so we have movie night at home. They all enjoyed the movie and I didn't mind watching it several times.

Just not great...!

This review is from: Rio (DVD) I was not particularly crazy about this movie. We watched it on family movie night and I honestly went to sleep. I know why I never went to the theater to see this. Now if only I could get my money back from having purchased it over the holidays. I just think it was a corny plot and very predictable. My kids enjoyed, but I don't let them watch it much because I don't like the that big guy in the chicken costume. The music was OK though.

Finally! The Birds Get the Spotlight!

As a person who LOVES birds and shares my life with parrots and other kinds of birds, I'm simply thrilled someone finally has made an animated movie devoted to these unique, funny, and beautiful creatures. I'd been waiting years for Pixar to get around to it, but alas, they are more focused on anthropomorphizing cars and trying to incinerate toys, so thankfully THIS studio took up the task. And what an amazing result.I'm not sure, but I think that the main character of Blu is based on the Spix's Macaw - a very endangered parrot at this time. Disturbing as the subject of bird-trafficking is, it was wise and important that the creators took on the subject to encourage more awareness, and I applaud them for doing so. A synopsis isn't needed here, as others have given that. I simply want to add in my 2 cents towards highly recommending this movie. Adults will enjoy it, as will kids. As will my own birdies, who are going to get to watch it soon. The animation is glorious, with eye-popping colors. BluRay need not apply, as DVD format is just perfect in its rendering and clarity. The detailing in such things as just the cross-thatching texture on the beaks of the macaws, and the way the feathers were rendered - some of those details added to the movie subtly for the benefit of "bird people" to notice and appreciate - was delightful. There are a lot of those little treats tossed in, like the pigeon-toed way the parrots walked. Loved it, loved it. The music is great, too. Especially the opening titles theme and segment, done in an almost gentle and ethereal way as you're guided into the jungle setting populated with what are, to many, very ethereal creatures. So well done.I did take away one star due to a minor annoyance. I know some of the voice-over actors are African-American, but I don't think adding in SO many hip-hop cultural references, speech style and mannerisms fit in. It was out of place and got old REALLY fast. This was set in Brazil, with some characters originating from Minnesota, so more Brazilian and Minnesota jokes and puns should have been emphasized. Even some of the music was in hip-hop style. Give me a break already. They did touch heavily on the Brazilian obsession with soccer in a hilarious way, so kudos for that, at least. All in all, this was a joy to watch. I hope there will more movies in the future about birds. Maybe one set in Australia, so we can see budgies and cockatiels in animated form. Even most of our familiar backyard birds would prove to be funny and adorable characters in movies of this style. It's a treasure-trove of possibilities. So bottom line: get this and watch it. You'll have fun! 'Nuff said. :)

So much fun

This review is from: Rio (Blu-ray/ DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) This movie is a great choice for a child of any age ... and for the parents as well! My daughter is only two years old and it held her attention until the end. We watched it together as a family during the hurricane and all had a great time. The animation is captivating and the music so catchy. We probably danced 3/4 of the movie. It is so much fun!!

A pleasant experience

Rio is a pleasant kids matinée film. There is nothing here particularlynew or surprising, but the kids will love it. The high point for me forthis movie was the nice animation of the colorful birds flying to Latinmusic.Blue is a blue macabre(who does not know how to fly) the last male ofhis type who is captured to be sent to some place in the USA. He fallsoff the truck and is found by Linda who adopts Blue as a pet. 15 yearslatter Doctor Borbosa comes from Brazil who has found a female bluemacabre and wants to breed the pair to help keep the species alive. Sooff to Rio during Carnival to get the pair of birds to hook up. Theproblem at first Jewel the female bird is very fightsy and wantsnothing to do with Blue. Well that night a smuggler of exotic birdssteals the pair and binds their feet together. Later that night thepair escapes. The rest of the movie is about the 2 birds trying to getunbound, Linda trying to get Blue back and the smuggler trying to getthe birds back. The rest is rather predictable. The movie is a nice kids flick but nothing more. The story is neitherinteresting or new, the characters we have all seen before. The kidswill love it but the adults will probably be looking at there watcheswaiting for it to end.Grade C+
