Horrible! This show is only suitable for people who haven't read the books andare waiting for the fall season for real TV. Harmon is too tall and tooattractive to be Rizzoli and she runs around the set like a maniac.Alexander is nothing like Isles who has black hair and is cool andcerebral. I've read 5 of the books and never once did she diagnose adate's malady or giggle at something inappropriate or shop for shoes. The idea that they end every day swilling beer is absurd. I hate whenTV takes great characters and turns them into pablum. All of this mightbe forgivable except that the writing was awful and the plot wasunbelievable. Bringing back the Boston Strangler in episode #2? Allthat tells me is these writers have nothing else going for them. |

Much BetterThe cliché is beginning to disappear and the cast is getting morecomfortable, which make me more comfortable. I like how the directorshave unglued each other's shoulders from one another and they both dotheir own thing to solve a crime. This chemistry shows off thestrengths of stars. Did I say chemistry - I did. One of my earliercriticisms. The chemistry in this show is excellent and pure...amazingturn-around.OK…I was wrong. This show has turned in to a real peach! I have gonefrom not liking this drama and avoiding it at every turn to a fan whowants to watch reruns to catch up on what I have missed. (Odd…I did thesame thing for NCIS…connection? Hmmmm…maybe.) Angie Harmon's voice isno longer as grating as it was and I am over the hurt cause by theuntimely demise of Kate on NCIS. I guess the writing is kind of – sortof – really good. The direction…not flawless…only really close. I donot know what the show has done, but it has turned itself aroundsomehow and I really enjoy it. Oh did I mention the stars? I likethem…I get involved with the twists and turns of the plots frombeginning to end. One last thing…Kate – I mean Isles – keep your headdown and always wear your Kevlar. |

Can't decide.I am a huge fan of Tess Gerritsens books, Shes an amazing writer and ireally get into her stories. However, the show is nothing like thebooks at all, I know it's based on the books and not actually about thebooks but what happened to Mauras killer mother and dead twin sister? And Janes parents splitting up? And the priest? I think the show alonecould be alright by itself, but i wish they would stop comparing thebooks, it's 2 different stories, the characters are no where near thesame, In fact Jane & Maura barely know much about each other, They justwork together on a lot of cases, It's mentioned in the books severaltimes, they don't hang out outside of work very often at all, yet inthe show they are best friends?I still haven't come to a conclusion if i like this, as i am drawn inby it, but I'm not sure if that's just because I'm trying to like itbecause i love the original characters |

It's ChemistryWhen I first started watching this show I thought it was going to bejust another cop drama like the other 500 on TV but no somewhere amidstpile of scripts that is good drama they found one that shines above therest. This is a cop drama that doesn't follow the typical cliché as inestablish good guys here, insert bad guys there, make snitch talk, showends. Finally someone realized that its much more interesting to make 2interesting characters and give them lives around which their jobrevolves and not the other way around. Rizzoli is a headstrong copwhose Italian upbringing shows through, this is the type of woman youcan see growing up with 3 brothers and kicking their ass around thehouse the whole time. Isles on the other hand is a socialite more of aimpressed by the complexity of the world and enjoying every second ofthe mystery around it. Together it's brains and brawn with just a nicedash of sexy, and the back and forth is right on point to keep pace. Conclusion, this is the show to watch if you want to see 2 women kicksome serious criminal ass with intellect to boot! |

Old wine in new bottle. If you were a fan of Women's Murder Club, and missed it when it wascanceled after 13 episodes, you will like this show. Angie Harmon playsa similar character, looks the same, talks and walks in the exactsimilar way. In this series, the Assistant D.A. and journalist havebeen ditched. But don't hold your hopes too high. Angie Harmon has had a very badluck on television. Her career is chock full of canceled series andthis seems to be going in the same direction. Sasha Alexander, on theother hand, shines in her role and a certain amount of restraint bringsout the best in her character. She too has been on the fringes, afterditching N.C.I.S., hope this will be her show. |

Cagney and Lacey?Anybody out there old enough to remember them? I haven't seen anothercop show with two women since then that I can recall. Maybe all youyoungsters out there don't remember a time when having a lead role wasa big deal for women. But since Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly, have therebeen any other strong female leads paired up together? Lots ofmale/female pairings, sure, but two women? I can't think of any off thetop of my head, and believe me, I watch a lot of TV. I like the ideathat both of these characters are women who work hard, are competent atwhat they do, have a sense of humor, love their families, and have astrong sense of ethics. I also like that the series is based on a bookseries written by a woman. Women's voices and faces need to be heardand seen in Hollywood in all kinds of roles. Don't forget that in the70's women were still fighting for the right to be treated equally, andthat Cagney and Lacey served as role models. Hopefully Rizzoli andIsles can do the same. |

Has potentialI watched this show unable to really know what to expect. Thecommercials left a lot to be desired, but I love all the actors in theshow so I was hoping for the best. To me it felt that they really didnot give enough time or money to the production of the show. You seethe show before or after and you can tell that they really spent timein production, the lighting, sound and just the feel of it is a higherquality where this show looks and even sounds a bit... dingy. I reallyhate when they don't spend enough focus on starting off with the bestyou can offer and I feel they really skimped here. However I do seethis having the potential to grow into a good show with a little bitmore time for everyone to settle into their characters and iron outsome of the kinks. I hope they are given the opportunity...and themoney! |

This one is catching on with me...The previews that TNT used initially weren't overly interesting andsome of the critics gave this new show mediocre ratings. That beingsaid, I'm glad I chose to ignore the critics (as usual) and give thisnew cop drama a shot. Glad I did. It rolls right along with wellwritten story lines and nice touches of humor here and there to lightenup what could be a very dark premise. I can't rave enough about thecasting of Angie Harmon as the tough-talking but occasionally insecurepolice detective Jane Rizzoli, who's driving ambition and outerroughness bely a compassionate individual who's trying to do the rightthing, no matter what. Sasha Alexander is a wonderful breath of freshair as Maura Isles, the science and medicine half of this dynamic duo.She plays Isles with just the right amount of nerdy quirkiness to makethe character endearing and brilliant, without crossing over intoannoying know-it-all territory. What makes this work is the greatchemistry between the two female leads, who come across as believablein their roles without sacrificing appearances too much. You couldactually picture Harmon as a cop because she conveys it so well. Thesupporting cast is wonderful as well and it's awesome to see the ubertalented Donnie Wahlberg back in front of cameras where he belongs. Nooffense to his New Kids On The Block gig but, the man is a decent actorand should definitely keep working that particular side of his talent. This is a great new show and so far, the stories move with a quick, satisfying clip to them so boredom is not an issue. TNT usually blowsaway most of the big networks with their choice of programming and"Rizzoli and Isles" is no exception to that rule. Give it a look-seefor a couple of episodes; it's worth it. |

Absolutely positively outstanding!!After watching the first episode of Rizzoli & Isles I was more thansatisfied .. I've wanted to see Sasha Alexander and Angie Harmon backon my t.v screen ever since Sasha left N.C.I.S and Women's Murder Clubgot canceled. Sasha is supposed to act the way she acts in the t.v showit is in no way bad acting she's supposed to be a bid like Brennan fromBones who's a bit detached from her emotions to say the least. Peopleare comparing Rizzoli & Isles to Bones and it's because they have a lotin common though Rizzoli & Isles had a much better first episode thanBones did and just because this show isn't one of HBO's productions anddoesn't have people fornicating on every corner doesn't make it bad. It's just something you can watch with your kids or maybe even brotheror sister without feeling awkward because of what's happening on thescreen and actually enjoying a show. I definitely recommend this. |

Yes!R&I does an excellent job of incorporating comedy and mystery togetherin a grand mix of a series. It is not so intense that the audienceunknowingly stresses because of it, but at the same time, it has gotenough suspense to qualify for a crime drama. Instead of being anotherdark, serious, gloomy CSI, R&I is a harmless, light-hearted show that,as suggested by the title, centers around the lives of two witty, intelligent women that go by the names of Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles. The noticeable pattern is that each episode begins with a questionableclip, which foreshadows the homicide investigation team's call to thescene. It is then followed by the upbeat, heroic opening, and thecurious process of solving the murder case: it relieves the mind to seeall cases solved by the end. Not only that, the little jokes lighten upthe mood, and the background music is a driving force that inspires, not depresses, the viewers. Because of the nature of the central characters - they are two powerfulwomen - the show tends to be directed towards a feminine audience. Icannot ensure that the TV series is an agreeable adaptation of thenovels; however, if I were to speak of only the show, I would say thatthe characters are portrayed superbly and that the director - alongwith the actors, the writers, and the rest of the staff - deservesapplause. |

I don't miss an episodeI watch almost all of the crime TV shows. This is by far my favoritemostly due to the delightful chemistry between the two female leadcharacters. I think Angie Harmon is so perfectly cast, that alone makesthe show a hit for me. She is so believable as the not 'girly girl' copwith the crazy dysfunctional Italian family (boy can I relate). I wasnot familiar with Sasha Alexander (NCIS is about the only crime show Idon't watch) but I think she too is perfectly cast. I am now a big fanof hers. I love the writing, particularly as it pertains to theirrelationship. It's so yin/yang. As others have mentioned, just theright amount of humor to make it human. If you haven't watched this show get on board, you won't regret it. |

Booth and Brennen not Cagney and LaceyI enjoyed the first season though I didn't expect to from the trailers. This show is a weaker version of "Bones", which I enjoy.Rizzoli, is the street cop. She's unsophisticated but good at her job, like Sealy Booth in Bones.Annie Harmon seems to have more fun with this role than she did playingAssistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael in Law and Order.Sasha Alexander (Kate Todd in NCIS) plays Isles as a less eccentricversion of Temperance "Bones" Brennen. The writers do seem to be stealing ideas from Bones.Spoiler. For instance Isles is an adopted child who's father is apowerful wanted fugitive.Sound familiar? No doubt there will be more borrowing in season two.Nevermind the lazy writers, this is a fun show and worth a watch. |

Funny, Sexy, SmartBeing a fan of NCIS I was disappointed at the departure of SashaAlexander and I hoped that she would appear in another televisionseries doing something she really enjoys. But I was never a fan ofAngie Harmon and she was my least favorite Assistant D.A. on Law andOrder. It was hard for me to imagine Angie Harmon playing a tough, tomboyish Boston detective. Actually, I was thinking before the showaired that the roles should have been reversed. I could buy SashaAlexander being the tough cop more than I could Angie Harmon. However, I am happy to admit I am wrong. Angie Harmon shines in Rizzoliand Isles and it is apparent from their chemistry that they are bothhaving a great time doing a project they are completely committed to.The dialog between the two of them is so funny and entertainingespecially when Maura goes on a tangent and provides useless facts withsuch sincerity and genuine intent to educate. The dynamic between them was cemented in the episode, Money forNothing, when the working class girl and the débutante had to decide ifthey were going to have each other's backs.I hope the murders become more interesting and the cases more complex. The show has a wonderful supporting cast-- the cop that gets queasy atthe sight of blood, and the hard nosed cop that has a soft spot forfurry creatures. Very funny stuff.Rizzoli and Isles is becoming my favorite show. |

Awesome!!As a female lawyer who truly loves the law and everything that has todo with crime and punishment and as a self-proclaimed connoisseur ofcrime TV, I must write my first review and express how overjoyed I amwith this show! I'm already anxious to buy the show on DVD, and I'veonly seen one episode. If the rest of this season is anything comparedto the first episode I know that I can look forward to many moreseasons. Rizzoli (Harmon) is believable as the tough girl who honorsthe law (yet is able to maintain her incredible sexiness at the sametime.) And Isles (Sasha) is the fashionista who crazily enough lovesher often disgusting job as the medical examiner. (She also brings alot of the subtle humor with her character's attitude.) I identifiedwith both main characters, found there was enough excitement to keep myattention throughout the entire episode(and enough humor...but not toomuch) and was left with heightened anticipation until next week. |

What You Have To Remember Is This...Det. Jane Rizzoli & Dr. Maura Isles aren't lesbians. This doesn't mean we can't imagine they are, or wish that they were. Itseems that from the very beginning, when Dr. Isles re-set Det.Rizzoli's broken nose in what seemed to be a tender and caring gesture(as tender as one can be, resetting a broken bone...) these two haveshared a kinship that surpasses the limitations of the words 'bestfriends'.The crime-side of this show has been somewhat over-looked for therelationship between the two stars, but it is still an integral part. With an outstanding supporting cast and brilliant writers, there is noreason why this show can't continue for many seasons to come.Granted, the weekly homicides aren't that brain-busting. If youconsider it is generally the person they only show once (and briefly)in the first fifteen minutes, then it's never really that hard tosurmise 'whodunnit' but there is still enough suspense to keep watchersintrigued.Ultimately, IMHO, this show gives the fans what we've been looking forsince the end of Xena: Warrior Princess. Two strong female leads withan extremely close relationship that frankly, could be alreadyconsidered a lesbian relationship, considering this - sex has nothingto do with sexuality.Even if the lesbian angle is not your cup of tea, don't worry. Really, neither hetero or homo-sexuality is rammed down our throats. Jane &Maura really are just the best of friends, and that in itself is awonderful thing to have on our screens. A close female friendshipwithout the rivalry we've seen in other shows, without thecompetitiveness we've seen hundreds of times over.As Det. Rizzoli declared - We're LLBFFs. Long-love Best FriendsForever. And there's nothing wrong with that! |

Exciting so far, needs to settle into its own groove a bit...So far, I'm really enjoying this show. It's an exciting crime show andnice to see two strong female leads that have good working chemistry. Ihave high hopes for this show and hope someday that it will become amain season 22 episode show rather than a summer series. My one complaint is that Maura Isles personality quirks really startedout like (early) Temperance Brennan on Bones. I hope that the characterdevelops a solid personality in her own right rather than feeling likea dim copy of Temperance Brennan, and this did seem to be much lesspronounced by the end of the season. It's just not realistic whensomeone is quite that clueless about social interaction, especiallywhen it's so much like another character. |

primacag-219-477782 (2012-03-29 14:22:10) |
cheezyThe two leads are much better than the writing they are given. They arereally wasted in this what appears to be low low low budget attempt todo faux Dashiel Hammet. The writing is only bare bones, with the fewestdialog lines possible, and lots of meaningful camera angles, so youactually have to watch sometimes, and the characterization andcontinuity is very simplistic. The plots are pure cheese, and sometimeslook like they are from social issues of more than 30 years ago ratherthan today, but there is an occasional real belly laugh. This isn't theMaltese Falcon.... but its entertaining enough, so if its late at nightand you need something to put you to sleep give it a try. |

My reviewFirst off I love this show! Although it is a little odd seeing AngieHarmon playing the role of a Police Detective instead of an A.D.A. butshe does a great job at it. Sasha Alexander is just stunning! HonestlyI would like to see a little more Sasha and a little less Angie, but Istill love the show... Also when watching the previews before theseries started, I got the sense that there would be a bit of a Lesbianthing going on between the two. Obviously, to my dismay, that is notthe case... (BUMMER). Also the supporting cast is a bit of a let down,(unlike "The Closer") and not what I would have expected from a TNTseries of this caliber. It is a bit shallow but very sexy. Not perfectbut better than anything else on regular TV!!! I would rank this rightup there with "Burn Notice"... Just my opinion. |

introduction status!I would love to say how great this is, but I can't, mainly because itis appalling. The character set seems all wrong and the lead detective never seems toget anything right, until the people around her make 'basic'suggestions. For example, ooo the camera equipment in the boot!!?? eh??I do understand what the series was trying to portray, it wants tofocus on the human side of crime, rather than the police side, but itfails big time!! If you want that type of series, see blue bloods! Iwould steer clear of this, the acting is awful, it's not true to lifeand even beggars belief at times. If you just want a cop show, with nohassle, this maybe for you. If you want something to test your brain, this is far from it, awful script. |

Oh Dear...Well, I saw the third episode of this, and I'm shocked I got throughthe whole thing. Here we go again. Bait and switch - the network advertises a cool showwith strong female characters in tough, traditionally male jobs. They cast lots of cool folks (Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander, LeeThompson Young (loved him on FlashForward), Lorraine Bracco, BruceMcGill & Donnie Wahlberg) And then they give all the good actors highschool characters to play. Seriously, we are supposed to expect thatthese two grown women are upset about mean names kids called them inhigh school? And Rizzoli gets dragged to a dress shop by her mother?Sure, when you're a kid, your mom has some say over your wardrobe. This show is for teenagers, not grown-ups.(And I didn't even get into the racist "Ooohh, black people are intovoodoo" aspect of this episode. Ugh.) |
