I love movie and All.

My mother and I were at the mall, she was getting a face treatment andI was killing time watching a movie. It was even better than Kingdom ofHeaven, Brothers Grimm and the 300 with lots of action and adventuremaking it not boring at all. I used to not like Nicolas Cage actingfrom his period movies, but this film he get a scores from me. Thesettings and locations are beautiful, breathtaking like what you couldfind on a traveling postcards or national geography documentaries -this movie is for you. this movie is a historical fantasy movie whichshows real natural side-seeing in Europe. this movie supposed to bewhat ancient time in europe would be...not a fantasy computer graphicanimation movies like the others movies you have ever watched. regards to the reviewer from Austria. "styria in this film doesn't meanthe province in Austria. In old writings people often confuess Syriawith Styria - in this movie "styria" means the country Syria, notAustria. if you don't believe me just google the seashore in Syria.

nonsensical and unsatisfying ending ruins the film

Nic Cage is becoming the master of these kinds of movies. I'm nottalking supernatural thrillers, I'm talking films that themematicallystart out a certain way and then flip in to the land of complete crapsomewhere along the way. (The recent film "Knowing" springs to mind asan example) As the film progressed, I thought it was interesting, albeit far darker then I was expecting. By the end, the story spins offto freaky land and beyond. A movie you think could be directed towardsexploring religious fanaticism or even faith itself instead spins in toa supernatural clusterflub of demons and stupidity. The ending andterrible direction absolutely ruins what was a pretty good firsttwo-thirds of a movie. What makes this twice as bad is the fact thatit's a "journey" film, meaning that everything that was set up leads tothe resolution. In this case, the resolution is nonsensical andunsatisfying and negates just about anything good about the firsttwo-thirds of its running time.

Not as bad I thought

Stop bashing Nick Cage. Sure, he was dreadful in this film, but overall I enjoyed it never the less. It reminded me most of the kind of oldmovies you see on Mystery Science theatre, with bad dialog and badacting, but still compelling enough to watch. Ron Perleman as Cagessidekick is outstanding, and worth watching. As I said, the story isgood with two outlaw crusaders tasked with brining a witch to amonestary in exchange for deserting the crusades. Lots of twistsandlots of fighting as you try and figure out if the girl is really awitch. There is also a lot of stunning alpine scenery. I say check itout, you may be surprised as I was. I say this strictly from a netflixperspective or 99 cent redbox. People who are paying 4.99 on cable maywant to think about it.

Season of a Witch

Okay movie. Enjoyed the actors but the story needed more to it. It won't rate as a best picture but Nicholas Cage was very good in it.

Dont listen to critics

Just went to see the movie and I thought it was pretty good. While I do agree that it isnt the best acting from Nicholas Cage I still think he did a really good job. The movie does have a few slow parts so expect that but other than that one negative point I thought they did a good job. The movie has a good story plot and the graphics were very good. Just be careful if you have younger kids because it does have a few very dark scenes at the end which I would think would be to scary for younger kids. But seriously how can you have the ghost rider and hellboy in the same movie and not give it a shot :)

Wait for the Blue Ray, and rent it.

It is not worth the $10 ticket to get in the movie. Just rent it. We left thinking that the director edited the good parts out.

Deserves its 7% Rotten rating

I don't know which was worse: the dialogue, Cage's wig, or the blue screen work. The only reason I finished it was because Clare Foy is so charming.

Horrible movie

Worst movie ever seen. I wanted to sleep during this movie. I would rather wash my face with glass and drink bleach and sit on a plunger then see this movie again.

Its not as bad as the critics make it out to be.

I am terribly picky about acting ability when it comes to rating. That said, in the beginning, the acting was lacking. After about 15 minutes through, the acting got a whole lot better and Nicolas Cage seemed to redeem himself. The best acting goes to Claire Foy, the assumed witch. The story line was not confusing at all like the critics say. It's laid out quite well. Very easy to follow along. I would recomend it for anyone wanting to pass a day by this Winter.

Much better than expected

I came into the theater expecting a cheesy horror film with which towaste my time while my wife saw another film that I had already seenand disliked. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. Rather than a horrorfilm, this was closer to the well-remembered 1980s Rutger Hauer filmLadyhawke: an action fantasy set during the Medieval period.Performances were complex and competent--especially those of Claire Foyand Nicolas Cage, the story held interest, and the technical work by amostly Hungarian crew was very impressive. Happily, gore and sexualcontent are very restrained--I suspect we'll be seeing this one inairplanes a lot. My major issues are that the theology is a bigcockeyed and the CGI at the end was unnecessary, distracting, and notup to current Hollywood standards. Let's have more like this, simplyfor their entertainment value (and no more Final Destinations!!!).

Hell of a ride

This flick is one of my favorite of the fantasy/horror genre this coming year. I like Nicholas Cage's choice of movies lately. He was excellent in the Sorceror's Apprentice last year. He did even better in this movie as a former knight of the Christian Crusades being forced to extradite an alleged with to a monastery during the age of the bubonic plague. His past choices in movie are understandable. Cage wants to show his broad range in acting. He is showing that he is interested in all genres of film. Cage also wants to show off just how good he really is.Aside from Cage, Ron Perlman was good as Nick's friend and partner in arms. Christopher Lee, Hammer House's immortal Dracula, has a very short, but great role as a King who is affected by the Black Plague. Claire Foy does a great job as the alleged witch.I loved the CG effects. The action was great. The story kept me on the proverbial edge of my seat. I enjoyed the suspense. Excellent movie overall.(WRITER'S NOTE: I made a factual error in my review of "The Last Airbender", where I said that Armand Assante was in it. I deeply apologize. He was not in the movie. There was an actor in that movie who looked like Armand Assante to me. Please, forgive me for that mistake.)

Critics are useless bores.

A for the movie; F for critics. In today's digital access to trailers, info, and previews, movie critics are nothing but self-important, bombastic, useless bores. I can decide for myself if a movie is worth seeing, thank you for nothing.

Not Bad At All...

This review is from: Season of the Witch (Amazon Instant Video) I read all the reviews and decided to see it for myself through Amazon streaming. Honestly? It was a decent and entertaining movie with great special effects. Did I go into it expecting the most amazing writing and plot? No. Did I think it would contain Academy Award winning acting? No. This isn't that kind of movie. It wasn't supposed to be the greatest film ever made or move you to tears. It was simply supposed to be an enjoyable hour and a half...and it was. So go ahead and rent it or buy it. If you watch it without the high expectations I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Well Told

Crusader Knights Behmen (Cage) and Felson (Pearlman) escort a suspectedwitch (Foy) to an Abbey for trial as she is purported to be the reasonfor the Black Plague. The monks at the Abbey will determine her guiltor innocence. This is every bit as good as The 13th Warrior, King Arthur, andBeowulf. All was good, the acting performances, the fight scenes, the dialogue, and the cinematography, but it was the pace of the story (nothingdragged) and the interplay between Cage and Pearlman that kept me inthe game. The script included some humor at times and as understated asit was, it made everything believable. You liked these knights and youwanted them and the trip to be successful. I was especially impressedwith Ron Pearlman's performance. I am always impressed with NicolasCage's performances. Then at the Abbey destination the CGI became a player and the visualeffects were spectacular. It is here that the real reason for thejourney is made known. Hey, I was shocked and you may be too. Violence: Yes. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Gore: No. Language: No

They didn't know witch direction to go...

From the trailer this movie didn't seem like it's going to be anythingspecial, but it seemed like stupid fun. First scene that takes place isin 1235 A.D. and started off a bit lame and should not be takenseriously at all. But I had hopes that it would at least be stupid funand for the most part it was only half right. Than the movieflash-forward to 1332 A.D with crusaders in the 14th century but thetwo main character are Nicholas Cage and Ron Perlman. Anyways thesecrusaders look super hypocritical in this constantly getting drunk withwomen. Than go off killing more people in a brutal manner, now I don'tknow if crusades worked that way but it just seemed like the creator ofthis movie really don't like Christians. Anyways after a bunch ofkillings Nicholas Cage's character realize this is going the wrongdirection. Which I found to be humorous how it lead to that scenarioafter the beginning few minutes of him drinking laughing and killing.Nicholas Cage doesn't seem to take acting or even himself seriouslyanymore, especially in this. His acting and actions are just laughableliterally. This is a B-movie at best from Nicholas Cage and I don'tknow if some seems was intentionally suppose to be funny but it didn'tseem like it, and yet it's funny. I didn't know this was suppose to bea comedy, from the trailer it isn't suppose to be one but sometimes itdoes seem like it. Well at least it's a fast paced movie that is closeto a hour and 30 minutes. I don't know if it's because Nicholas Cagedon't care much about his acting career or something, cause I have noidea how they convinced him to take this role. Maybe it was just themoney issue. There is nothing much in the story either, the two maincharacters and a group of other are on a mission to transport a girlwho is persecuted for being a witch or from just a intuition of being awitch, from point A to point B. Just watch "Black Death" which is adifferent story but similar premise and is a better movie.3.8/10

Much better than I expected

This review is from: Season of the Witch (Amazon Instant Video) This movie had been given all sorts of negative reviews. But after watching the trailer, I thought I'd give it a go.I was surprised. I thought this was a very good, thought out movie, especially for all the negative reviews out there. It's one I'm seriously tempted to buy (and I don't buy a lot of movies). It had good special effects, had some great historical research put into it. And I was surprised how clean it was; No sex, no nudity, hardly any language. Most movies now days are packed with that sort of thing, in order to cover up a lack of a plot. Maybe that's why so many people said the plot was poorly developed. Compared to most, I thought the plot was pretty good. I would definitely recommend it.The only thing that some people might find disturbing, is that the film is very detailed when it comes to the black plague; personally, I'm in the medical field, so that sort of thing doesn't bother me as much as it would come people.

do not waste your time

this movie was terrible, so stupid I don't even want to waste my time saying what's already been said. When this movie ended I was wondering to myself why I sat through the the whole thing. You shouldn't have to do the same. Find a good movie and watch that instead.

It had potential...

I love Nicolas Cage, but that said, I would have to say he didn't dohis career any good on this venture. It was the movie and the scriptthat were the problems, not Cage. Some of what ruined it for me werethe little things such as the fact that Ron Perlman's hair looked quitecontemporary as if he had just been fresh from the barber and thelanguage which one has to live with throughout the film is that ofcurrent times with only a slight nod or two toward the language of old. These are details that one has to put thought into as it is part of thepresentation that puts us "THERE" at THAT moment, in THAT time! Yes itcould have been a bit better with more detailed, winning CGI and thesort, but even with that, you still can't get into the film withoutattention paid to the the other elements. Lastly, the demon in the endwas laughable. Had he spoken in some forbidden and strange tongue Imight have been intrigued, but he sounded like a ticked off, commonthug on a street corner in the hood! Both my daughter, (15) and Ilaughed at that point as it was then completely ruined for us. It hadso much potential and we were dying to see it, but wouldn't dare see itagain and will simply continue to look forward to the next Cage film, staying away from any works from this director.

Unmitigated Garbage.

I have to say that I started watching this with a positive andinterested outlook after the exiting trailer and the prospect ofwatching Nicholas Cage and Ron Perlman in action. After the first 10minutes I revisited the trailer online to see If I had made a mistake.Alas no. The actors although working with the poorest material throughset piece after set piece, weren't even trying. I actually threw theDVD into the garbage once it ended. Throughout the movie I tried toremain optimistically hopefully that they would burst into life andsuddenly entertain. I'm sad to say that there are no redeeming featuresto this crap. Don't rent it. If you happen to see it in the schedulingonce it arrives on TV, do yourself a favor and watch paint dry. It willbe marginally more entertaining. Whatever you do don't waste your moneyon the DVD.
