I'm Still Not Sure...It's been a full day since I've seen this film, and I'm still not sure whether or not I really liked it. On the one hand, I was left unsatisfied because it didn't end the way I wanted/expected. On the other hand, it defied the average love story by ending unexpectedly, and isn't that what everyone is looking for in rom-coms these days? That twist that makes it more than a foregone conclusion? Maybe I'm just fickle that way.Acting: awesome. Looooove John Krasinski. The characters all managed to be likeable in some way, even Kate Hudson's character (sometimes). The acting makes me more conflicted, because I thoroughly enjoyed each of the actors' performances. Sometimes I was laughing so hard I was crying.Definitely a rental--I think this is one of those movies where you have to see for yourself to decide. And I'd definitely give it another watch, if for nothing else than some good laughs. |

Nothing funny about this comedy!I really disliked this movie. It is a waste of time and money. There is nothing funny about "30 somethings" cheating on their partners, and being disloyal to their so called lifetime friendships. No morals, no values, no laughs! |

C- is rightI agree with the critics on this one. Seemed plotless and there was no 'romantic' comedy about it. Just crude humor with a few laughs. |

Loved it.This review is from: Something Borrowed [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I never write movie reviews but I had to comment on this film--loved it. I did not know all the actors or actresses in this movie, but I took a chance--and am glad that I did. Loved the story and the acting--in fact, I have watched this movie twice in the last couple of days. Knew Kate Hudson and Steve Howey and thought that they did a really good job in their roles. Fell in love with the two love interests even though I had never heard of them or seen them before. Hope they get more good roles. |

don't think too much about itGennifer Goodwin is really sweet, shy and really beautiful. She played the youngest of the three Mormon wives of Tom Paxton in "Big Love". She is so pretty she just lights up the screen whenever she's on it. She is so pretty she almost makes you forget what is happening. She makes you forget she is stealing her best friend Darcy 's fiancé Dex (Colin Egglesfield), just before her friend's wedding. A wedding where she is slated to be maid of honor. Yeah, Darcy is loud, lewd, vulgar and brassy (Kate Hudson). And the fiancé hasn't the dangling things to make up his mind. So I guess it's OK to steal her intended. As long as its' fluff and you don't think about it too much... . Directors try to manipulate your feelings about characters, try to make you like characters who do reprehensible things... Gennifer Goodwin is just beautiful in her pencil skirt and stiletto heels, did I say that? she's a lawyer... The only truly likeable, well-motivated character here, a character with character, who can see what's really going on, is played by John Krasinski, and he who just sort of disappears...despite what is said below, the movie is very well-cast, in fact the casting is its greatest strength, and that includes the brassy Kate Hudson. She's an actress,... playing a part... |

Barely worth the timeThis review is from: Something Borrowed (Amazon Instant Video) Something BorrowedYes, most romantic comedies have a frustrating side, but this film overdid on the total frustration. And truly, even the ending was frustrating...so if you like frustration with little to no laughs, this is the film for you. |

one of my least favorite romancesfirst time doing a review... feel like i really need to share so people don't waste their time/money. honestly, i'm a huge fan of romantic comedies/dramas. however, the acting in this movie was so poor and the story-line was lame. i really couldn't relate to the characters and didn't find them at all believable. i wouldn't even watch this movie if it was shown on a transatlantic flight and i had nothing better to do. and that says a lot. |

Loved this movieAfter seeing the movie, I read to original book to compare the two. Iliked the movie version much better than the book! In the book thecharacters are not likable at all. All seem selfish and self-centered.The movie plot is very believable and you can agonize with Dex as hetries to stay true to his conservative upbringing. The expanding ofEthan's role helps the story and John Krasinski is such a great actor. He was my favorite character in the movie! There are some hilariousscenes and a great love scene. I am wearing out my taped version of themovie and can't wait until my DVD arrives so I can see the directorscut of the movie and the bonus features. |

Stupid movie...Will not bother reading the book. I hated this movie, cheating, lying,deceiving...all the characteristics of a horror flick. definitely not aromance, chick flick I thought it would be. I also thought theredefinitely was potential for the movie to turn around but the stupidbehaviors of the friend(Rachel) went on for too long throughout thewhole movie. It was in no way empowering, nor romantic. The mostdisappointing part of the whole story is that she remained friends withher friend while trying to woo him over. Too bad Darcy never found outwhat kind of person(character) she was. Even in the end, she disses herfriend at her wedding. I really expected the movie to go a littledifferently than it did, OK a lot differently. Rachel ended up becomingthe villain in the end. I guess if your a fan of Brad and Angelina thenthis is the movie for you, the only difference is Angelina and Jenniferweren't "best friends" as the characters in the movie were. LAMEmovie... |

A film for those that like to cheat. This is an awful film, about a lead character, an absolute tramp, thatbetrays her life long best friend. Predictable attempts are made to make the victim, played by KateHudson, less sympathetic, unfortunately this doesn't work and you canthelp but dislike the Rachel character, played by Goodwin. Thesupporting cast are strong and amusing, but not enough to save thismovie from the skin crawling undertone of the story. I spent the first half of this film annoyed and hoping that the Rachelcharacter may redeem herself and turn around this film. Half waythrough I realised this probably wasn't going to happen, I just wishedI turned this awful film off.If you like cheating, betrayal and horrible leads this film is for you. |

incredibly disgusted by this movieI watched this because I've always been a fan of GG. I think she'spretty in a less conventional way, but definitely prettier than KateHudson.Which brings me to one point. This movie was one of those ugly ducklingmovies without the ugly duckling. Rachel (GG) admits that she "neverthought a guy like you would end up with someone like me..." as if shehas three heads or a skin condition or something equally appalling. Shehas none of these things. She's pretty, she has a good career, and theonly major personality flaw she has is the inability to be proactive(which shouldn't be a problem since her love interest is the EXACT SAMEWAY). Yeah. This is a terrible movie with absolutely no action in ituntil the very end. We don't even get to see the scene where Darcy isdumped.Adding to the incredible coincidence that neither Rachel nor Dex knowwhat to do in this incredibly obvious situation (we know Dex has somemommy issues, but that wasn't really explained... I can't rememberanything his mother said or did, aside from a few woeful looks). Theonly person we hear any reason from is Ethan, and by then we all wantto smack some sense into the main characters. What bothers me incredibly about this movie is that it basically drivesloyalty between "best friends" straight into the ground. Not only doesRachel sleep with her best friend's fiancé, she doesn't TELL her bestfriend her mistake, she sleeps with Dex again, encourages Darcy tomarry this guy who is cheating on her and doesn't love her, and thencontemplates telling Dex that Darcy cheated on HIM. Who is gettingmajorly screwed over here? In all the mixup and emo WHAT DO WE DOaction (or lack thereof), it's easy to forget who is being hurt themost.Uh oh. The script writers went a little too far...IN COMES...villainizing! It's a common trick in cinema to demonizecharacters so that we stay rooting for the main character. This wasvery overdone in this movie. At first Darcy had a few good traits thatyou could see, but it wasn't long before she become entirely RIDICULOUSas a character. By the end of the movie, we discover that she's alsobeen cheating on Dex this WHOLE TIME...AND...she's pregnant. She had todo something a bit worse in order for us to forgive Rachel. In doingso, the depth of Darcy was lost - and everyone has depth, let's notfool ourselves. Obviously the movie wasn't about her, it was aboutRachel, but it sends the message that it's okay to screw your bestfriend over as long as she's doing it too - and when does that actuallyhappen? It also sends the message that it's okay to wait on a man toleave his fiancé and to not give up too soon, because he might have aREALLY GOOD REASON. Wrong. If a man isn't leaving his wife, he's notgoing to, so you just better move on. Those are the cold, hard facts.AND, if a man is cheating on his fiancé/wife/girlfriend with you, he'sgoing to do the exact same thing once your relationship with him gets alittle rocky (that is, if you ever make it to a relationship). Butseriously - once a cheater, always a character. Obviously his moralsare not fantastic. If he loves you, he'll leave her, if he doesn't,don't bother waiting around. You deserve better.Ethan was the only character that seemed to agree with this philosophy.I really wanted the movie to end with Rachel going off with someoneelse, someone who knew what to do from the beginning and didn't standweakly by and take forever to figure out that love is more importantthan his father's glare.I hated the weakness of these characters. I hated the message. I hatedthe necessity of making Darcy's character unbearable so that we won'tend up despising the main characters for their despicable actions. What's worse is that no one was punished for the horrible betrayal thattook place in this movie - they were rewarded. |

Brilliant laugh out loud comedySomething Borrowed is a brilliant laugh-out-loud comedy. I guaranteeyou'll laugh so hard your sides will hurt! I am in love with thismovie! It is so hilarious I almost fell out of my set at the theater! The visual aspects of this film are great because of the crisp imagesand the dialogue is so funny. My favorite character is Ethan because heis so blunt and straight forward. There is no hiding his emotions and Ilaugh at almost every thing he says and does! Something that is soclever about this movie is that it is very emotional, so you can gofrom cracking up to crying in one scene. The only thing that really bothers me about this film is the ending. Ido not think Dex and Claire should be together in the end, I mean, Iknow they wait for 6 years but it just doesn't sit right with me and Ifeel bad for how Claire and Darcy's relationship ended up.This movie is for ages 13 and up because teens and adults will love itfor the hilarious adult humor and it is pretty inappropriate forchildren under 13.So if you're 13 and want to watch a fun film, go check it out. I lovedit! Reviewed by Raven Devanney, age 13, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic |

Great Adaptation of the BookLove Emily Giffin, her characters are always so intriguing, and thismovie is a great adaptation of her book. And while Dex's is characteris somewhat blah in the movie, he is fantastic eye candy. JohnKrasinski steals the movie with his portrayal of Ethan (the beach sceneis laugh out loud hilarious). And for all the girls (and women) whohave always taken a back seat because they think they don't deservebetter, there is actually a lesson to be learned in this movie. Thebooks, and the movie, are morally conflicting but that does not takeaway from the enjoyment factor. This is a great girls night out kind ofmovie and it could be a good date night movie if your guy is okay withthe romantic comedy genre (it is certainly does not follow the typicalromcom structure). |

LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!First off let me say I did not know this movie was adapted from a book!! Duh on me I guess.... I absolutely LOVED this movie!! The main characters of Rachel and Dex had great chemistry which makes the movie work. I didn't hate Darcy...I actually liked her. But it was SOOOO easy to see that she was so into herself, that missed what was right before her eyes. I recommended the movie to several friends and they loved it as well! I thought about reading the book...but I don't want to change my perception of this movie!! Great Job!!! |

Simply an unlikable & cringe-inducing "romance"'Something Borrowed' is based on the novel of the same name by Emily Griffin which I've never heard of. It concerns a group of thirtysomethings as they struggle through a love rectangle or trapezoid or whatever shape is made up by Kate Hudson ('How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days'), Ginnifer Goodwin ('Big Love'), John Krasinski ('The Office'), and the unfortunately named Colin Egglesfield ('Melrose Place'). It's also occasionally a love pentagon or hexagon if you count Ashley WIlliams & Steve Howey. As are typical in stories about differently shaped loves, there's lots of betrayal amongst of friends, panicking of unfaithfuls, heartfelt conversations covered in rain, and unnecessary stupidity of everyone involved. . . but, that last bit is expected in any romance, cinematic or real. One major problem with a film about infidelity is that it's impossible to really like anyone involved with the scandal. Here, we only have the Rachel, the woman who betrays her friend (Goodwin); Dex, the fiancé who betrays his love (Egglesfield); and, Darcy, the woman betrayed by both (Hudson). Typically, you can associate with those cheated on solely through sympathy, but that was made difficult for two reasons: 1) Darcy's a secondary character who seems to always act like that girl who always gets too drunk at college parties; and, 2) The movie constantly acts as if it's going to reveal something negative about her past (spoiler: it does). Granted, no one deserves to be hurt this way for being annoying, but she's still not an enjoyable character to watch. Maybe things would be different if Darcy and Rachel's roles were swapped, but we all know of hindsight's perfection. Left alone behind all this despicable behaviour is the typical nice guy Ethan (Krasinski) who, along only with Dex's dad, acts as a voice of reason in the film. Unfortunately, he's like an umbrella in a hurricane, unable to rescue this mess of humanity from themselves. Now, I suppose this is a film that's not meant to be enjoyed on the level of a typical romantic comedy; but, with this cast and a sugary, generic title like 'Something Borrowed,' a viewer should not be forced to withstand the cringe-inducing behaviour like that of Dex & Rachel. Never have I so wanted the leads of a romance to be hit by a New York cabbie. Then again, I also wished that fate upon myself for a while to alleviate the misery of watching these monsters. Clearly, writer Jennie Snyder & director Luke Greenfield, who have both successfully worked in romance before this film, have talent that should carry them through their futures, but a film this unlikable was not their best step forward to that future. A romance hasn't been this depressing since last year's 'Blue Valentine,' but at least that film succeeded because of its sad nature and didn't have to battle against it.Final Verdict: 4/10.-AP3- |

Apology for treasonI can't believe somebody celebrates this selfish person breaks amarriage. She had her opportunity and did nothing about it. That's sad but itdoesn't give you the right to sleep with your "best friend" fiancée.Unblelieveable.The main character is a fake friend and about the middle of the movie Ifelt it was a total lost of time. I don't think it has a happy endingand I think it doesn't deserve it, but it teaches a wrong lesson to theviewer if you think that it's alright to steal somebody's love.Wrong decision for the producers of this film, sorry bit I believe theywill lose their money. |

Messy relationships.Something Borrowed is a fun and entertaining rom-com based on the best-selling novel of the same name. I saw the movie before I read the book. There are some differences with the movie and book which is understandable. Ethan is hardly in the book but he's in most of the movie is one difference. I thought Ginnifer Goodwin and Kate Hudson were perfectly cast as Rachel and Darcy. Rachel is a supposed good girl who ends sleeping with her best friend's man. Darcy is a selfish, self-centered party girl who bosses Rachel around. In the book, Rachel and Darcy's friendship is kind of already splintered but in the movie, the two friends are very close which makes Rachel's betrayal even more heartbreaking. I loved this movie and I loved the book, I highly recommend both! Enjoy. |
