Visual feast with a storyLoving the original it was with much trepidation that I went to seeTron:Legacy. To say I was relieved would be an understatement.Visually stunning with great tweaks on the original, set designincredible and loved the recreation of Flynn's arcade.I really enjoyed the father/son story arc and thought well acted by alland the reasoning behind Flynn senior being trapped very plausible. Thesmall digs at Star Wars, homage to Blade Runner and other sci-fi filmswere subtle inclusions bearing in mind the time the original was made.End of Line Club, Michael Sheen, Daft Punk...let's open it now, what aparty that would be.Jeff Bridges was the main reason I went to see this again and he didn'tdisappoint.A definite must see, so top reading, get on your light cycle and go. |

Style over substance. I expected more. The half hour of abysmal previews aside (cowboys and aliens?please...), my reaction to this film is as follows; I was amused atpoints, marginally entertained at others, but all in all this film feltlike a string of commercial spots strewn together to sell TRON, and nottell a story with any sort of depth of meaning.I felt like I was watching Asian cinema take over Disney, and it wasn'ta pleasant experience. It felt like TRON was being revamped as aregular Disney property for the sake of making TRON into a franchisename for Disney studios.Well, okay. But, if you're going to do that, then please make a filmthat has some of the profundity of the first, AND THEN let the dude getthe girl in the end. Right now the basic message is pretty pact, andmarginally silly. If you're a Freudian, then this film is for you.The film was implicitly self referencing, and didn't do a very good jobof establishing the mystery nor wonderment of the relatively primitivesetting presented to us some thirty years prior. A setting that hadsome odd anachronisms that made it all that more appealing andmysterious. In "Legacy" we get a very sexed up version of the worldpresented to Disney audiences, and it doesn't seem to gybe with theoverall theme of the film.I hate to get all fan-boyish and state the original film was better, but, well, it is. Mostly, that is. "Legacy" didn't take a stance onanything. There was no commentary other than one very stunning visualsequence early on, but even then the film didn't comment on what wasbeing presented. The director took no position. And it shows in thisfilm. The one thing I did like in this film was the female lead, though sheseemed almost a background character at times in spite of all of herpro-active exposition. She just seemed like a second string, or almostlike a trophy wife of sorts right out of the Stepford Wives roboticsfactory for sci-fi-action-geeks. She too lacks any real position onwhat's going on in her world, again in spite of her character'sanecdotes about how she came to being.Well, I never thought I'd say this about a Disney film, but you mightwant to skip this one. Visually stunning, but it lacks any real teeth.Go see "Tangled" instead. Your brain (and ear drums) will thank you forit.ADDENDUM; after giving it some thought, I understand the "biblical"message being conveyed, and the social commentary married to it (lesscomputer, more real life; i.e. few shooters, more girls), but there'sno exposition, no explanation, no thought provoking insight as to why.Not one of the characters articulates what it is they're doing, and whythey're doing it. And I guess that's why I failed to warm up to thisfilm. It's a visual didactic lacking any reason or cause. |

Great Visuals but Awkward Dialog, Unfocused Story and Luke Warm ActingLet me preface this review by stating that I grew up on the original"Tron" and will always enjoy that movie for it's daring visuals andsimplistic yet focused story and strong score. With that in mind, thefilmmakers probably could've left this project alone, but I applaudthem for the effort. This new story needed more focus, and the dialog, outside of Bridges father character, was mostly poor. While JeffBridges brought the original movie together, his supporting cast in '82provided a great adversarial villain and acting from David Warner alongwith the same with strong camaraderie and friends, played by CindyMoran and Bruce Boxleitner. With that said, I really wanted "TronLegacy" to come forth with the same types of strengths for this sequel. The set design and recreation of the "Digital World" are stunning, butcan't alone make up for it's problems - childish, underdeveloped, andoften awkward dialog, and a weakly underwritten and poorly acted mainrole for the character of Sam Flynn played by Garrett Hedlund, There isa general lack of original new ideas. The introductory 20 min of themovie are glossed over badly and Boxlietner here is more or less anafterthought and bit-part in the movie when he should not be. Why notemploy some of the other video game concepts from the arcade for newvisuals instead of rehashing? Or create a new villain rather than CLU?The storyline felt jumbled with Bridges' 2 characters receiving majordevelopment in the limelight/grand fashion with everyone elseunderwritten. Anyway, I'll leave it as a mild disappointment. Some ofthe other good points were Daft Punk score, finale scenes, and spiritedsupport from actress Olivia Wilde despite her flat moronic dialog. Somerefinement, focus, and much better developed dialog were sorely neededas well as more humor. End of Line. |

Not quite Tron, but still a great film!Whenever you produce a remake, sequel, or otherwise related movie to an old classic, comparisons are inevitable. Like many of its kind, Tron Legacy can feel less impressive next to the original, but that doesn't mean it's a bad film in its own right.Visually, Legacy channels much of the spirit of the original film with fantastic updated designs to the landscape, sets, and vehicles present in the film. However, certain other elements have been streamlined, mostly notably the costumes. Whereas in the first film programs would often be seen wearing rather bizarre costumes that formed odd shapes and unique silhouettes filled with complex, circuit-board like design patterns. In this film, everybody wears the same generic body suit with a few conservative light patterns. The handful of characters you see that look different, have a more generic cyber-punk look to them such as loose clothing with basic trim patterns. Often when you see the actors interacting with each other, it looks more like a new matrix movie or a lost star wars episode then Tron.Story wise while the original film was a wide-arc adventure focusing on the discovery of this new fantasy world. The new film is instead a character-driven story about Sam Flynn, the son of Kevin Flynn from the first film. Pretty much the entire film is told from his perspective, with plenty of drama, romance, and action. As a character development piece it is pretty good, but it missed out on a great deal of potential. `The Grid' is portrayed more as just another alternate dimension rather then being a world inside our computer software, as all the ties that related it to real electronics are gone. Aside from the occasional reference to users and programs, there's no more bits, no more data streams, the internet is never even mentioned. I was personally hoping to see how the new world created in Tron would've evolved over the years, as technology has evolved so far and so fast. Instead we got the story of Sam Flynn. Again, they could've removed the few references to the world established in the first Tron and called it a new Matrix film, and you wouldn't know the difference. On the other hand, the action sequences in this film are fantastic. The creative team took full advantage of the advanced technology available today and the deep pockets that Disney has. Deadly Discs is given a multiplayer tournament setup, the light bikes race across multiple levels, and the aerial battle at the end is just fantastic! As far as the extras on this blue ray package, they are all well worth it. Tron Legacy is available in a large number of packages, and I'd strongly advise consumers to take the time to compare and contrast before making their final decision. Do you really need three versions of this film? One on DVD, one on Blue Ray, and on for 3D? Sounds pretty wasteful. And don't even think about the four or five disk sets, that just insane. Save yourself the cash and pick this up on a cheaper set like this one. You can't go wrong when you're saving this kind of money. |

An Enjoyable, Long Overdue Sequel that Compliments the OriginalTron: Legacy is an extremely entertaining, visually captivating, longoverdue sequel to a great sci-fi classic. Tron: Legacy is a greatfollow up to the 1982 Disney ground breaking film. The movie is afantastic visual spectacle much in the same way that the original filmwas. The first Tron featured innovative visuals that took audiencesbreaths away and the new film meets and exceeds the bar that was set byits predecessor. The cinematography of this film adds a great tone the picture as thisTron's theme is much darker and more sinister than the first movie. Itis a great follow up to the original as it aptly explains theprogression of the story and the development of the Tron universe. Thefirst Tron's universe mirrored the video games of the time as it wasfilled with bright colors. This film uses more dark tones highlightedby colors to help emphasize the darker tone of the film. Tron: Legacyhas a very good plot that compliments the original film but it has auniversal appeal so that those who never saw the first film can enjoyjust as well. The story is very plausible and has very little flaws. The main flaw of the story is the subtracted role of one of its mainstars from the original Tron movie, Tron himself. Tron was a warriorprogram that championed for the users in the first film. He led therevolution against the Master Control Program. The character in thelatest Tron film is more of a henchman and is barely seen. This washuge subtraction. The movie is a visually stunning marvel with a multitude of underlyingthemes about parenting, and family embedded within the larger than lifesci-fi fantasy. The movie is really about family and the legacy thatall parents want to leave their children. The film is a really goodillustration of the obsession with career that many parents chase andin the process they often miss time or ignore the real legacy of themwhich is their children.Tron: Legacy is not about performances. Conversely, the film doescontain some notable ones however. The main characters in the movie areportrayed very well. Jeff Bridges, in particular, gives a enjoyableperformance as Kevin Flynn. He adds a feel of nostalgia as he uses manyphrases like "far out," "way cool" or other proverbial sayings from the1980's to emphasize the character's lack of progression while beingtrapped in the computer. Garrett Hedlund does an admirable job as SamFlynn. The main detractor to his performance was thecombat/gladiatorial games that Sam was too proficient at. He too easilydefeated everyone in the games. I found it extremely hard to believethe level of ease that he had in defeating some of the more experiencedfighters in the games. In the first Tron, Flynn needed the help of Tronto survive the games. In this version, Sam takes them out until hefaces Tron. Michael Sheen was extremely entertaining in his over thetop performance of Zeus. His portrayal of the excessively exuberantZeus added some color and a great relief to the more seriousperformances in the film. The original Tron was a good story highlighted by ground breakingvisual effects that captured everyone attention and it was way ahead ofits time with is cinematography. Tron: Legacy is not a movie aboutperformance. Nearly everyone that goes to see this movie will go to seeit for one of two reasons. The visuals or the fans of the original filmor both. The movie is equally satisfying in both of those areas as wellas enhancing the original story in almost every way. Considering thosetwo factors then Tron:Legacy is an excellent sequel to the classic. |

Yes yes yes yesI thought the first half of the movie was perfect. Perfect -- I couldn't have imagined it being better (for us old Tron fans). The second half, while more original, faded a bit, but I will still see this movie over and over and over again. |

This movie was not impressiveFirst off I was really excited to see this movie but after renting it and watching it I was sleeping throughout the whole time, yeah this is how awful and boring this movie is. The 1st Tron was no prize either, this one was worse it was like watching video games for 2 hours. If you want to see great sci-fi action then check out the 2009 verstion of Star Trek and Avatar. |

You're messing with my zenWow, I'm seeing a lot of h8rs on here. Don't them discourage you fromseeing on of the best movies in a while. For all the sequels thatweren't made and the ones they made instead, to the tiring remakes andendless reboots and total lack of imagination, this film makes up forit. From the start of the movie to the Disney Logo at the end thismovie will captivate you. You don't NEED to have seen the first one butwho are we kidding, it does make a difference. And if you have neverseen Tron, that is just sad. "The Dude" Jeff Bridges is amazing andfunny. Garett Hedlund is great, Olivia Wilde is gorgeous and kicksmajor butt, Bruce & the rest of the cast fit in like a glove and makeeverything work. The updated world is just amazing. The music isawesome, a couple good oldies that will make you reminisce on the 80's.There is not one thing about this movie that i didn't like. If youdon't enjoy this movie, there is seriously something wrong with you!Now go enjoy this movie and see it as many times as you can! Its thatgood. |

Exceeded My ExpectationsA meaningless revisit of 1982's TRON with updated special effects wasmy worst fear going into seeing TRON: Legacy... and thirty minutes inthis movie seemed to be just that. By this point the younger Flynn hasbeen sucked into the grid (a disappointing two-second camera zoomeffect when compared to the original's iconic sequence), initiated withhis grid gear (awkward and overly geeky two-to-four minute sequence),and then forced to compete in the standard Frisbee and Light Cyclegames (which aside from the awesome 'de-rezzing' effect upon death werepretty uninspiring... I actually preferred the original versionsdespite 'inferior' special effects.) It would have been nice if theywent out on a limb here and tried to invent a few new games, but Isuppose for an audience who has never seen the original its no bigdeal.Thankfully, soon after, Flynn meets his father and the movie's purposeis finally revealed. A father and son wishy-washy story? Thank God no!But rather the origins of the main villain Clu, the events that led tothe disappearance of the father, and the origin of the movie's heroine. Its a compelling back-story that takes the TRON universe to a whole newlevel. Accompanied by the soundtrack of Daft Punk, some quick hittingscenes, and some sexy vixens in skin tight spandex the movie from hereon out seems to fly by towards its climatic ending. Certainly didn'tfeel like two hours. All said and done I thought this movie was great and to my surprise Ienjoyed it more than the first. Definitely one of my favorites of 2010.Only problem? Its over and I'm left wanting more TRON!P.S. I saw this movie in the traditional 2D format. |

Enjoyable, if the script does need workWe open to Flynn Sr. with an awkwardly obvious animated "younger"Bridges face(get used to it) delivering exposition about the firstone(I think... I haven't watched it) to his young boy in 1989. Hedisappears soon after, and 21 years later(present day), his offspringSam(after getting revenge on his dad's company for turning from Torrentsharing into Microsoft) looks for him one last time. This takes himinto the titular universe, and we find that it has turned into adictatorship. I hear that the idea of a computer seeking "perfection"is from the '82 one(and it is a cult favorite... this is moremainstream), so... points off. The concept is not original, and theexecution is perhaps a tad shallow. It does go into themes hearkeningback to Frankenstein, with the creation rebelling against its maker, and man's arrogance leading us astray(if it does go against that in thewhole "change everything in the real world" plot point, that they neverproperly explain and that doesn't pay off). And the Third Reichsimilarities(the rounding up of "defectors", the reaching for "better","nothing may change the system", and the removal of that which isdifferent in the fear it won't be of as high quality, it could be andthe chance isn't taken) are quite effective(it would help if we saw therevolution and the resistance movement(...if there is one, we seefighters at least)). In general, this "works", dramatically. When we'remeant to feel, we usually do. Excited, same. Not all the jokes work, but few are embarrassing(with that said, this really didn't need to"youth up" Jeff so much). The acting is pretty good. JB does well asboth the aging hacker and the controlling Clu(granted, the latter is ashallow role... and I'm unclear on what his initial plan is in this).Wilde is endearing as the innocent and sheltered Quorra. This is theonly thing I've seen Hedlund in, and he does a nice job, even in theemotional scenes. I do think Sheen as the eccentric Castor(he's kindadoing a "David Bowie on speed" impersonation) is annoying. The dialogisn't bad. This has amazing(and occasionally creative, if it is a tadcomparable to The Matrix Trilogy and the new Star Wars episodes)action(acrobatics, martial arts and vehicle chases, with light-energyand Discs that also serve as hard-drives as weapons... and theslow-motion isn't in excess) and visuals, look and production design. The FX are incredible(with CGI and sets seamlessly blending), and yetthey don't steal the focus. There is not much 3D, and it doesn't makeitself very noticed. This has an epic scope. There is some Hollywood toit, though it isn't as bothersome as in other films. The music fitsremarkably well(it has the techno kind of thing, virtual reality toneto it), Daft Punk did fantastic work(was anyone in doubt?). This scoreis reminiscent of that of The Dark Knight and Inception, withrepetition of single notes. I would say that this is arguably toolong... not sure what I'd cut, and still, I wasn't bored. The deathsare like in that Animatrix short, "code" sort of, they come apart, it'sPG-13 without us feeling cheated. This has an important moral and itcommunicates it well. And yes, the chicks are hawt(no sex in this, onlytight clothing... and brief mild language). The marketing... I mean, the trailer just lets us know it's easy on the eyes, it doesn't tellyou that this is a dependable source of entertainment. Fans of the onefrom three decades ago(that you don't need to catch to understandthis... not that I'm sure I "got" everything, and I'm told others didnot, including those who have seen both) might be disappointed... thereis no Lora/Yori, little Tron(the guy... anyone else notice how thatword refers to three different things?) and Kevin doesn't do as much ashis kid. The title lets the people old enough to remember the old oneknow that this is, indeed, related to it, and it's a cool-sounding wordthat will attract those who are too young to know about it and too biga word for them to realize that it's a sequel to something theywouldn't like the aesthetics of. I will be keeping an eye on directorJoseph Kosinski in the future... this is an impressive debut. At itscore, this is about a father and son finding each other again, and astruggle against totalitarianism. And it isn't the best at either. Itisn't Avatar, either. If you accept that and are looking for somethingthat you may not comprehend all of that will have you glued to yourseat if you let it, this is for you. I recommend this to anyone thatfinds themselves in the group I just described. 7/10 |

Great film if you are not cynical and jaded and hate everythingAvatar curse is upon whole world now in form of Tron .its Blue all over again but this movie is not great for its visuals but for exploring a loving relationship between father and son .I felt like watching finding Nemo in reverse (This movie is also PG not PG13 ) as here its son trying to save dad.Team behind Tron tried so hard to stick to original movie that they ignored to introduce anything new for this version .Almost 80% action sequence in movie are exact replica of original but of course high tech and big budget.so its like 1982 Tron in 3D with zero Creativity. All close Fight sequences were boring actors just throwing shields. They could `ve introduced some new high tech toys .Sam character was left unexplored in real world .Sound track is awesome but weak 3D unable to immerse "user "in the whole experience .So far only movie that really I want to play on my samsung 3D (regardless of story/acting) is "Resident evil after life" |

Tron:part 2.Although I had sadly not seen the original 1982 film Tron, when I washearing that Tron Legacy (aka Tron:Part 2) was going to be 2010s "big"Christmas film (especially after 2009s Christmas film Avatar had turnedout to be an unstoppable machine, that broke every box office record inits path)I was very keen on seeing how this film would be.Sadly, when myfriend started hearing the mixed reaction that this film was receivingfrom reviewers, his interest in the film drooped very fast, which led tome disappointingly not seeing it in the cinema. When I found out that the film was coming out on DVD in a few days,Idecided that I would buy the DVD of the film,on the first day ofrelease. And although it took me a bit of pushing to get my friend towatch the DVD with me,by the end of the film,he was thanking me!,for megetting him to watch this extremely entertaining movie. The plot:After his fathers disappearance off the face of the earth 20 yearsago,Sam Flynn has become the reluctant reclusive CEO of his dads formercompany. For the other members of the board,Sam is a huge annoyance dueto only making appearance at the company,so that he is able to destroyany of the boards attempts to turn the company into a dominatingbusiness empire. As Sam leaves the building, after having successfullyruined the company's Stock Market price,he runs into a worker who usedto know his dad.To Sams shock, the man reveals that after 20 long yearsof complete silence,he has just received a pager message from Samsfather! (Kevin Flynn). When Sam ask the man if he can give him anydetails about where the message was sent from, the man says that he cantbelieve his eyes, because the message seems to have been sent from anold arcade game that his dad had helped to make. When Sam enters anabandoned warehouse where all of his dads old arcade machines arekept,he discovers that one of the arcade machines (Tron) is still upand running, after being left untouched for over 20 years.Suddenly,Samstarts to feel that something very wrong is happening, when he realisesthat he is no longer on earth, but is instead inside the Tron videogame!!.As Sam tries to comprehend what has happened,he is gripped bystrangers who force him to enter a series of survival to the deathstyle games. After having just about survived the games,Sam is given the"honor" of meeting the program that controls the "world" of Tron:Clu(who looks just like his father, due to being made in his creators ownimage)Whilst it at first appears to Sam that this new man-made world isa stunning technical achievement of his father,as he digs deeper intothe world, and makes a terrifying discovery about what has happened tohis father.Sam begins to suspect that something very wrong has happenedto his fathers creation...View on the film:As the film seemed to be heading to its conclusion,I have to say that Iwas very surprised with the way screenwriters Adam Horowitz and EdwardKitsis (who both also wrote the story, along with Lee Sternthal andBrian Klugman) had written the film. With Tron Legacy having been set upto kick-start a full blown mega-franchise,Horowitz,Kitsis and Klugman(who have all worked on projects from J.J Abrams, with Horowitz andKitsis having written quite a few great episodes (including somemythology ones ) of the mind-bending, hit show Lost),seem to mostly shyaway from trying to create a mythology for the "Tron Universe" and toinstead keep the movie self contained. And whilst this allows the filmto become a very entertaining survival/chase movie, with the second halfof the film, where the characters are trying to make a run for it to getout of the system, being very enjoyable as the tension really starts tocrank up as they get closer to their escape.Although it is good thatthe film has not got to many loose ends, which its follow-ups would haveto try and wrap up.The movie strongly feels that it really needs a bigrevelation in its storyline, which would have helped to give the filmthat little bit of extra depth that it really needed.Luckaly, directorJoseph Kosinski is able to inject a sense of awe in the film, whichmakes it very tantalising to watch.Along with Kosinski, the amazing artand production designers create the stunning universe of Tron. With allthe exterior locations having a very beautiful almost,art-deco Noirishdesign, that along with some terrific action scenes, which surprisinglyare able to keep the films art-deco look whilst going at a break neckspeed, make sure that your eyes are firmly fixed on the screen.Lookingat the cast,I feel that whilst Jeff Bridges and Garrett Hedlund bothgive very enjoyable performances as Kevin and Sam Flynn, the clear standouts are Michael Sheen and Olivia Wilde. With Sheen being the most wellknown "new" cast member who is a big fan of the first film,it is easyto see the relish and huge amount of glee that Sheen puts into hisperformance.Sheen shows that whilst his character may,at first appearto be totally bonkers,he is actually very smart at using his bohemianappearance to hide darker interior motives.Though her character doesnot play a role that is as prominent to the story as I would haveenjoyed seeing,Olivia Wilde still gives a shining performance asQuorra. For her appearance Wilde turns Quorra into one of the edgiestlooking characters to appear in a Disney film for the last twentyyears!.Wilde also performs the tough looking hand-to-hand combat stuntsimpressively well.Olivia also makes Quorra stand out by having her showa very sensitive side,in her desire to help the Flynns as much as shecan Final view on the film:An extremely entertaining sci-fi action film, with stunning specialeffects and immaculate sets, let down by an underwritten screenplay. |

Visually Arresting, Dull FilmMy summary line up there says it all. While I didn't expect a whole lotin terms of plot or character development when I went the theater, Idid at expect some action--the trailers and ads make it look like anaction movie, after all. And at first, there was a good bit of action(and here is the only spoiler I'll give), what with the young Flynnrather unnecessarily stealing computer secrets, but as soon as heenters the matrix, er, I mean, the grid, things start to drag. Theaction scenes are sporadic, and since I have no emotional investment inthe characters, I didn't really care if they lived or died. The best Ican say of the film is that both the sound and visual effects aregreat. At two solid hours long, it's a surprisingly boring flick, andI'd have a hard time recommending it. |

"TRON Legacy" Makes Me feel Like a Kid AgainI was 13 years old when the original "TRON" came out in 1982, and I totally loved it. Now as an adult, I *still* love "TRON". I don't care about the film's less-than-perfect script. In my opinion, "TRON" is a very entertaining film, and a whole lot of fun. Never mind what the stupid majority of critics said about it: "TRON" is a landmark sci-fi film, with groundbreaking, breathtaking visual effects, and it was way ahead of it's time (SO ahead of it's time, in fact, that the Motion Picture Academy in 1982 denied "TRON" an Oscar nomination for Visual Effects, telling the "TRON" visual effects team that they "cheated" by using computers! Oh brother....). So when I heard that they were *finally* making a new "TRON" movie, I was absolutely over the moon. But would it be any good? Could they possibly match, or even top the original "TRON"? One thing was certain: the visual effects would be mindblowing. But how about the film itself? I was profoundly disappointed (and still am) that most of the advance reviews for "TRON Legacy" were poor. Once again, the majority of critics dissed a "TRON" movie, and, once again, they complained about the story and script. But undaunted, I raised a middle finger to the critics, and into the theater I went for the very first midnight screening of "TRON Legacy"........and I LOVED it!!! :-)I still can't decide yet which movie is better, the original or the new "TRON", although "TRON Legacy" undeniably has the better visual effects (with all due love & respect to the amazing visuals in the original), but "TRON Legacy" is an absolutely mindblowing movie, *especially* if you can see it in 3D! It's definitely AS good as the original "TRON", and watching it made me feel like a 13 year-old kid all over again. The movie looks and sounds sensational, it's very thrilling and very well-made. And the script? I don't have a problem with it, OR the story. Screw the critics! When we last left "TRON", hotshot computer programmer & main protagonist Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) had survived his adventure inside a computer mainframe (fighting for his life by playing gladitorial video games), and had taken over as CEO of the company ENCOM. When "TRON Legacv" begins, it is seven years later, 1989, and Flynn is now a widower with a young son named Sam. One night, Flynn disappears without a trace, leaving Sam orphaned. Fast-forward to 2010, and Sam is now a rebellious 27 year-old (Garrett Hedlund), living in a rundown auto garage converted into a pad, and keeping away from his father's company. One evening, Sam is visited by his dad's old friend Alan (Bruce Boxleitner), who tips off Sam about a mysterious page he received from the old rundown arcade that Sam's father used to run. Sam goes to the arcade to investigate, one thing leads to another, and he too gets sucked into the same computer mainframe that his dad did. Like his father before him, Sam must play life-or-death video games in order to survive, and, with the aid of the lovely, mysterious Quorra (Olivia Wilde), he must also search for his father, and find a way for them to escape....Like the original "TRON" 28 years before it, "TRON Legacy" simply dazzles. It is a thrilling feast for the eyes and ears, and, the critics be dammed, IT TELLS A GOOD STORY. The movie may not have a *brilliant* script, but so what? Does every movie have to have an Oscar-caliber screenplay? NO! All that I ask of a film, ANY film, is to be entertained, regardless of the quality of the dialogue. And "TRON Legacy" *totally* entertains me. The visual effects, art direction, sound, editing, cinematography, costumes, and Daft Punk's pulsating music score are absolutely stunning, and they ALL deserve Oscars. This is one movie that *demands* to be seen in 3D! 2D is fine---and I've seen the film in both formats now---but you MUST see "TRON Legacy" in 3D to get the full impact of the film. And about the lambasted screenplay and story---DO NOT LISTEN TO THE CRITICS, THEY ARE FULL OF IT. The screenplay is fine, the story is fine. When I watch a "TRON" movie, I am not watching it for the dialogue---I watch a "TRON" movie for the action scenes, the visual effects, and Jeff Bridges. Period. And on this level, "TRON Legacy" delivers in abundance. And the acting is very good, too. It's so great to have Jeff Bridges back, both as the older Kevin Flynn *and* his CGI younger self, Clu 2 (CGI effects were done on Bridges' face to make him look younger as both Clu 2 and, in flashbacks, as the younger Flynn, and for the most part, it is very effective). Once again, he's awesome. Garrett Hedlund does a very good job as Sam, and I enjoyed the father/son chemistry between him and Bridges. Olivia Wilde is both gorgeous and very appealing as Quorra, Bruce Boxleitner makes a very welcome return as Alan (and TRON!), and Michael Sheen is a hoot as the David Bowie-ish owner of the End Of Line Club. My one-and-only criticism of the movie is that there is no trace of Cindy Morgan's Yori from the first film---Yori isn't even *mentioned* in "TRON Legacy", not even once! What happened to her? If it ever gets made, perhaps Yori will re-appear in "TRON 3"? I hope so. Congratulations to director Joseph Kosinski for taking up the mantle from original "TRON" director Steven Lisberger so brilliantly, and giving this imaginitive cyberworld a fresh coat of paint. It was a long, long wait between "TRON" and "TRON Legacy", but it was so worth it. "TRON Legacy" is a marvelous addition to the cyberworld of "TRON", and, like it's predecessor, it's a very unique film. One last thing---I distinctly recall Siskel & Ebert easily being the most supportive of all the movie critics of the original "TRON". In fact, I still have an audio tape of them reviewing the first "TRON" movie in 1982, and saying how much they both enjoyed the film (thank you, Gene & Roger!). If I may borrow some words from Siskel & Ebert from their review of "TRON" and apply it to my review of "TRON Legacy"....SEE "TRON LEGACY" IN 3D IN THE BIGGEST THEATER WITH THE BEST SOUND SYSTEM THAT YOU CAN POSSIBLY SEE IT IN. The better the theater you can see "TRON Legacy" in, the more overwhelming the experience is gonna be. :-) |

Hopefully you saw it in theatersI really don't know what to say about this movie. It's not good. Notreally. The special effects are great (I even thought that the effectsfor CLU were alright. If no one told me that he was computer animated(and I didn't know that Jeff Bridges wasn't 30 years old) I would havethought that he was a real person.) The soundtrack is amazing and itshould have been nominated for an Oscar. The story is quite terrible, however. I mean, the original TRON didn'ttake itself to seriously and it was fun to watch. This movie, however, tries to be more serious than it can be. I mean, there's Holocaustreferences and stuff. The reason that I'm not giving this 4 stars is because I saw it in IMAX3D. Hopefully you saw it in IMAX 3D or Real D 3D, because those are theonly ways to watch this movie. You just might be able to forgive thestory for being so bad and just enjoy the great special effects. |

Pretty decentThis review is from: Tron: Legacy / Tron: The Original Classic (Five-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) As a whole, this was a great find. Cheaper than most were trying to sell it for, when it first came out. I wish I would have known, however, about what Disney was going to show as a 'sneak peak' of the upcoming animation. I was hoping to have more information about said project, but instead it was the teaser that was already on the web. Nit picking aside, it was a great find. Loved watching the original when I was growing up and the 'sequel' was just as thrilling for me. Perhaps it'll help people if they watch the original, then watch Legacy, right after one another. Better understand the sequel.Oh and if you're looking for the "Flynn Lives"...It's interesting, but nothing to write home about. If you're into Tron, to any degree, I say get this 'box set'. |

Seriously? This review is from: Tron: Legacy (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) What a horrible movie. Since you won't care what i say, just watch it, and then join the Regret Club with me. Sadly, i bought it, in 3D no less. Worst 3D movie i own; Out of 14. This is the most 2D movie i've seen filmed in 3D. I haven't seen The Last Airbender 3D though. I've read that's the worst 2D to 3D conversion by a great number of sites/people. Love the music lol. |

"If there hadn't been a Tron, there wouldn't have been a Toy Story."So says John Lasseter in one of the many bonus features on the Tron and Tron:Legacy five-disc combo set, containing a Blu-ray and DVD each of 1982's Tron and the recent Tron: Legacy, plus a digital download disc of the latter. (You can also get each film separately, but why unless you have the earlier DVD and don't want Blu-ray?)Lasseter's quote comes from what are billed as the "original DVD features" that were included in the much-sought-after first DVD release of the original Tron, which Disney did not reissue until now. Turning away what might have been a great amount of profit, the studio withheld the original film from reissue when the new film premiered, reportedly to avoid what might have been assumed as technical comparisons from the 1982 movie to the shiny new 2010 one. They needn't have worried much, but it didn't seem to matter in the long run, because today both films are among the best sellers in the DVD market. And even though they don't compare well when judged primarily by special effects standards, they actually both stand together better than expected.Steven Lisberger's Tron is still one of the most unique films to come from Disney or any other studio, now as well as then. There is simply nothing exactly like it, including Tron: Legacy, which is undeniably a tribute in its basic look, but also resembles a good many current big-screen special effects extravaganzas. There's no way that modern filmmakers would replicate what is very much a product of its era in scope and resources, and Tron: Legacy is lightyears beyond its predecessor in astonishing visuals. And like the original, the sheer, overwhelming proponderance of eye-filling sights leave little room for characters, though both tried valiantly. Tron: Legacy has the lion's share of labor, having to survive comparisons to its predecessor and reconcile two storylines, all the while relaunching a franchise that has been like shining gold in a locked treasure chest for decades. On the third point, Tron: Legacy succeeds extremely well. Like Star Trek, which transformed from a canceled network series with high ambitions and vision that transcended its limited sets and effects and built on itself through new incarnations, Tron was a great idea that occurred before the medium could handle it and even Disney didn't know what to really do with it for almost three decades -- though perhaps now has come into its own.The key was to catapult the franchise, and Tron: Legacy hit the mark. The animated version previewed on the disc is just one piece of the pie; a high-tech dance party called ElecTronica at Disney's California Adventure Park is another; and apparently the merchandise is already doing wellBruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges appear in both films, a plus for fans, though clearly many enthusiasts do miss Cindy Morgan (who appears on the earlier bonus features). Rather than relying on star power to sell the new film (and jeopardize sequels with high contractual demands), Disney wisely gave Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde a high-profile showcase. Wilde -- who has already distinguished herself superbly on TV's House, is especially impressive -- she is a scifi icon in the making, along the lines with Star Trek: The Next Generation's Seven of Nine. What's especially fascinating about Tron, though, is the road entertainment and effects took between the two films, which can be traced on the bonus features (though the earlier Tron DVD set did have a few more, so keep your old one if you have it). It was an influential film that inspired countless viewers, especially those within the film and video industry. Both films make good use of the clarity of Blu-ray. The only missing feature is a new commentary track. But we can still hear the comments on the original film by Lisberger himself, who seems to have been welcomed into the new production by the new creative team. |

Better then OriginalWatched TRON: Legacy home in my basement with some friends and wasn'thoping for much. I was very, very entertained. The effects aremindblowing and the entire setting of the movie is just beautiful. Thesound by Daft Punk fits perfectly into the movie. The story is good. It's not great, it's good. I don't think it's a to mainstream story orto simple, it's a good, nice story. Does this movie deserve an Oscarfor best film? No, it doesn't. Does it deserve an Oscar for bestspecial effects? Yes. Does it deserve an Oscar for best sound. With outa question. There were some problems with this movie, yes. But to say the originalis better is to me an insult. Yes, i know the first TRON was groundbreaking. It's a good idea but not very well executed ( i doesn'tmatter that they didn't have the technology for it).So watch this movie and enjoy it, i will for many many years! |
