Don't Waste Your Time or Money

Bad story, bad acting... even worse inputs of comedy. Not true to the real story. Have more fun flushing four one-dollar-bills down the toilet then renting this "movie".

Couldn't Be Worse if They Tried.

There no way anything this bad could not have been an inside joke. I can hear the producers and the director laughing their heads off after pulling off the crime of the century. What a waste of 3d technology. If they keep coming up with this kind of crap it will mean the death knell of 3d. Please make them stop. It hurts so bad.

I liked it!

All of these reviews say how horrible the movie is, but I reallyenjoyed it. Keep in mind, though, that I never saw any of the TVshow/read the comics, and I also don't like super hero movies verymuch. I think that's the reason I did like this movie. He's acompletely new type of super hero to me. (Especially since his sidekickdoes most of the work.) I'm not usually a fan of Seth Rogen, but Ithought he played the part well. He and Kato have some really funnymoments. The villain has an insecurity about growing old and not beingscary anymore, and I thought he was pretty funny. I thought the actionscenes were cool and entertaining, I just don't know how great they arecompared to others. Biggest Low Point: Cameron Diaz, who I think is over-rated anyway. Hercharacter was dull, flat, and I thought kind of snotty. Biggest High Point: The chemistry between Britt and Kato. They becomeBFFs in a span of about 12 hours. Fun to witness. Overall, not terrible. I enjoyed it and would watch it again. Bonus!James Franco makes an appearance. :)

It would be okay to watch without sound or subtitles, if giving a house party.

I am a huge Seth Rogen fan but this film is really difficult to grasp. This is perhaps his most experimental film and that's saying a lot.Nothing much happens in the way of plot. The film revolves around twocharacters who have a sort of philosophical discussion. Intercut intoshots of them are many static images. Rogen considered this as a returnto zero film so, apart from the usual bodily function gags, nothingreally happens at all. Imagine two college students in a black boxtheatre for 90 minutes performing stylized dialogues about linguistictheory, cinematic theory, and revolutionary politics that areoccasionally interrupted by fleeting shots of city activity andfrequently interspersed with agit-prop slideshows. Definitely worth alook if you're a fan of Rogen or a fan of experimental film. However, this is definitely not for everyone.

A LITTLE LESS TALK AND A LOT MORE ACTION

Much has been the case with many action/superhero movies over the past few years. Are the creators of these movies not sure if they're gonna make any money with their project or have action scenes become that expensive? If their gonna skimp out on the action scenes, how about writing a really good script that compensates for it. Well, they didn't really do that either. Many of these movies are falling into the exact same cookie-cutter formula style movie making. Iron Man 2 must have had the exact same screenwriter. Introduce bad guy in the beginning, spend an hour or more delving into the personalities of the hero(s) and then pour everything you have into a slam-bam finale. Oh, and since there isn't a whole lot going on in the middle, have hero shoot fruit in a drunken stooper or have hero(s) fight each other for no good reason.I give credit to the filmmakers for stepping away from the special f/x riddled movies we see these days, and keeping many of the stunts completely real, but everytime Jay Chou/Kato does his thing, does it have to be in slow motion? As real as the car chases and car smashes were, the fighting scenes were Matrix/Resident Evilish.Green Hornet isn't a complete waste of time, but it was certainly disappointing in an ongoing calvade of movies being paraded out over the past few years that have no depth, creativity, no quality writing and seem to only have one goal in mind, to dazzle visually. GREEN HORNET doesn't even do that, and if it wasn't going to do that, then they should have written a script that grabbed us.On a final note, Oscar winner, Christop Waltz "Bloodnofsky" was completely wasted in what could have been a great and memorable bad guy. Yet, he was delegated to a scene in the beginning, a short scene in the middle and the finale.

Green Hornet Review as found on DayOldStubble.com

Review: Green Hornet With all the talk of January being a dumpingground for horrible movies and The Green Hornet being one of those atthe top of the list I was surprised by how I felt at the end of themovie. By all means this does not mean it was a great movie. I felt itwas a very enjoyable movie to go and watch. That being said there werestill things that were plenty annoying about this movie. Most obviously would be the excessive prattling from Seth Rogen'scharacter Britt Reid, aka The Green Hornet. Granted it was his movie hewrote, and helped pushed to fruition but he really needed to dial backsome of the stuff he seems to think is funny. I am glad he didn't relyon the normally heavy pot related jokes and pranks though. It just waseasy to understand how whiny and childlike his character was but itdidn't need to be etched that hard into our eyes and ears. From what I know of the Green Hornet, which is very little, I am gladthey seemed to expand upon the relationship between Kato and himself.Something I noticed was how in the beginning of the credits they madesure how they said it was based off the radio series which I had noidea of, so from what little I learned from the Green Hornet marathonon SyFy earlier in the week seems to have little merit on thisadaptation. So my preconceived notions on how interactions would gobetween characters left me surprised. I am not sure how true GreenHornet fans are feeling about this movie, which I hope they would writeto me and let me know some of the flaws they saw so that I may learn.Sadly I felt that Christoph Waltz's talent was very underused. Hischaracter, Chudnofsky's opening scene with a meth dealer, played byRogen's amazingly talented friend James Franco, was very much what Iwould have expected. It is all of Chudnofsky's following scenes thatseemed to lack that spark that Waltz typically brings, and I want toblame the writing because it seems like his character was a setarchetype by the writers, and that he did the best with what he could. This is all that I could find fault with the film because other wisethe car, which has always been the most important part of the series, was amazing and stole every scene.Of course Jay Chou's portrayal as Kato is part of the reason the carwas so awesome as well as the fight scenes. They seemed to borrow someelements from Sherlock Holmes's fight scenes of slowing down the actionbefore hand and also at key elements. This worked very well to showcasethe martial arts prowess of Kato, and add a bit of edginess to whatcould have been otherwise boring and standard fights.I was a tad surprised at how little screen time Cameron Diaz hadthroughout the movie but in retrospect I am quite happy with thisdecision. She has always been one of my least favorite actresses andthe amount of time she had seemed to fit perfectly for this movie. Atthe end you see how she could come into a much bigger role in possiblesequels. All in all I was stung with surprise by The Green Hornet and I hope youall will look past bad early press and appreciate it the movie for itswhole and not just focus on certain parts.

WORST MOVIE TO COME OUT OF HOLLYWOOD (and they produce A LOT of crap)!

I actually walked out of this movie as I felt my IQ slowly draining out my ears. A sad remake of a solid 60's era action hero series. Actors/Hollywood should be ashamed ... Only buy if you need the plastic for a child's arts project!

(2012-04-19 20:32:31)

Sorry guys... but I loved it!

Just came back from seeing the non-3D version of the movie at Cinemark. I really don't understand the negative comments about Seth Rogen. I thoroughly enjoyed the new Green Hornet. IMO.. it captured the favor of the old series, but with a lot more humor. Remember in the 1960 series, the Kato action scenes and the BLACK BEAUTY always stole the show. Hardly anyone remembers the person who portrayed the actual Green Hornet character. I think his name had "Van" in it somewhere. Again, the real stars of the updated version are the action scenes and the BLACK BEAUTY. They really had some well placed stunts -- incredible! Although I must say, this time, the actual Green Hornet character was not the hard-boiled thinker of old, but an immature risk taker, which now makes him much more memorable. If Mr. Rogen really wrote this script, I applaud him. As a side note, I would love to see a dark production of the Green Hornet (in the style of Batman Begins) brought to the screen!

Just plain crappy

This review is from: The Green Hornet [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Don't waste your money! It is beyond stupid and never should have hit the screen in the first place. After watching this it will go in my collection and never see the light again!

High Expectations Dashed Against the Rocks

I went to see this film based on comments from friends that it was agood movie. It sounded silly but entertaining. What a got was a movie that wanted to be that, but didn't pull it off. Pros: Doesn't take itself seriously Good premise Action scenesInteresting plot Decent special effectsCons: Acting is really bad, especially Seth Rogen. He can't act. Pleasestop casting him as he ruins every movie he is in. We don't need a rolemodel who's an idiot. Kids/teens need a hero who is smart and has hisact together. It reflects makes being an underachiever "cool" Americansociety needs to idolize physical, mental, and moral excellence to getus out of the cesspool we're in. Yes, that is a lot of weight to placeon films, but think about how many people watch them, who watches them, and their effect is on their audience. Green Hornet is completely incompetent. That moves the film fromsuspension of disbelief to actual disbelief. The movie convinces youhis partner can operate completely alone and you spend the entire moviewondering why he doesn't. The stunts are a bit iffy, but maybe that was intentional. However, forme they detracted from the film. There you have it. I touched not only on the Green Hornet, but on filmsin general.

Trust the bad reviews

I can't believe this was considered a feature film and not a B movie. If all you care about is explosions, you will love this movie. And, if all you care about is Cameron Diaz, you might also love this movie. But, if you care anything about storyline, plot, character development or just good acting, you will be disappointed.Seth Rogen should just be ousted from Hollywood after such a catastrophic, epic motion picture failure.

Good Action-Comedy, Not A 3D film

I never watched the original Green Hornet, so basically my review wontbe based on comparison.I found this movie to be entertaining, its a typicallight-Action-Comedy film, which you don't have to put your brain towork to understand the plot. But if your not a Seth Rogen Fan (or you find his character in hisother movies revolting and not-funny) i don't recommend you watchthis, cause the Green Hornet Character is basically Seth Rogen Wearing aGreen Mask.I am not gonna go through the other characters cause they were average, and as i said its a "light" action comedy, just enjoy the film, its hasmany laughter scenes and the story is pretty good.Oh and as far as 3D, it really should have been a 2D. Not that much ofa film filled with visual Effects and graphics. My overall rating is 6.5, necessity to watch is not crucial, you canpush it to a weekend if you are a real movie Geek :D .

The Green Hornet (2011) - I Send the Hornet my Regards!

The comedic superhero flick, adapted by a radio series instead of aclassic superhero comic, "The Green Hornet" brings out laughs that canspoof the classic superhero flicks. Although the film had its moments,I started to wonder, while watching, these two guys were acting likebad guys, when trying to be good guys, and does not relate to what afilm like this should be. But honestly, the film had many moments todie for. Like the hilarious cast of Seth Rogen, Tom Wilkinson, CameronDiaz, Jay Chou (one of my favorite roles), and Christoph Waltz (anotherfavorite role). And my favorite part in the movie was the chemistrybetween Christoph and the surprise role by James Franco, playedhilariously like a pro. Although the film has cool effects, awesomestoryline backbone, and hilarious casting, the film was just trying tospoof other superhero movies, and acting it like the other way around."The Green Hornet", in my review, "hilarious and action packed, but notthat relative".

I got my $20.00 worth.

This review is from: The Green Hornet [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Whent the movie came out this winter, I went to see it in a theater in 3D. I was a bit overwhelmed and confused, but I still enjoyed the film. So much so, that I wanted to purchase the movie as soon as it was released to DVD. One of the things I do when I get a new DVD is to watch the "special features" prior to watching the main film. The Green Hornet really benefits from this. The "special features" attached to the Blu-Ray version of this movie sets out what Rogen and crew wanted to create, as well as to pay homage to the original TV and radio series. Once I understood what was going on from the view of the actors, screenwriters, director, stunt crews, and special effects personnel, I was able to sit back and look for things I'd missed earlier and really enjoy this movie. Besides, how can anyone NOT like a movie with a 1965 Chrysler Imperial with twin front mounted chain fed machine guns? Some movies get better after multiple viewing and this is one of them. Thank you Sony and Columbia for having faith in this production. Now, where's the sequel?

(2012-04-08 21:53:52)

Seriously awful

I don't usually leave one star reviews, but this movie was so bad it doesn't deserve anything more. Seth Rogen was terrible in this movie. He came off as whiny, immature, and completely devoid of anything resembling superhero status. The other actors were almost as bad. Edward James Olmos was completely wasted in this movie. The jokes and "funny parts" were not funny. I wanted to turn it off after the first 30 minutes but suffered through it becaus my spouse thought it would get better. It did not. We were both disappointed and glad it was just a rental. Don't waste your time or money.

The Green Hornet

This review is from: The Green Hornet (DVD) This movie is awesome from the beginning to end. Funny, action. You should definitely check it out. I can't wait for part two to come out. Sexy T

Oh! It had such possibilities

So, they had a chance to build on the legends of the Reed family. The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet. And short and sweet, "THEY BLEW IT!"This Movie isn't worth anything. They made this movie into a mockery of two great American legends by trying to turn this movie into a comedy. What a waste of time and money.

Kato Saves This One

"The Green Hornet" (2011) shown in 3D features Seth Rogen as Britt Reid who becomes The Green Hornet. He's the kind of over-the-top comic who can become very annoying and exasperating if you're not on his wave length. It helps if you have an adolescent fondness for zany and oafish playground humor. The real star of the movie is Jay Chou as Kato.Britt is a party animal who who lives a wasted existence until his tyrannical father, James Reid (Tom Wilkinson), mysteriously kicks the bucket via a bee sting. Britt inherits the family newspaper. When he meets his father's chauffeur, the brainy Kato who has designed fantastic cars, Britt decides to be a crime fighter, but to be different, he chooses to be a vigilante. With his inherited newspaper he can build up the Green Hornet as a bad guy. Kato builds a car, the Black Beauty, which has more gizmos, gadgets, and armament than any James Bond vehicle.Britt is a klutz, a know-it-all who knows nothing. He can't fight. He thinks he's great, is an egomaniac who after Kato beats up a gang of toughs tries to take the credit and denigrate his sidekick, but Kato has spunk and won't sit back and be a flunky. Kato is a terrific martial arts fighter and seems to have super powers. He can whip up elaborate inventions in a few days. He's the muscle and brains of that outfit.Britt thinks he can get any woman he wants, but he better look out for Kato. The movie has a love interest, but you'll be surprised at who ends up with the girl. There's way too much mayhem in this, and the car violence gets tiresome. The Green Hornet seems to wipe out as many cops as bad guys.If this movie succeeds, I can see sequels lying in wait, but they could very quickly become tiresome just as this film does. Parts are boring and Rogen can wear down the moviegoer who's not on his whiny track. He's a comic playing a comic book hero, but playing the character for laughs can be dangerous. It's part of the crime-fighter and sidekick genre played for yacks more than kicks. There's some crude stuff not for kids.Britt as a youngster was humiliated when his father took his toy caped superhero doll and tore the head off it. So what does the boy-man do as his first super-hero stunt? He cuts the head off a statue placed in his father's honor at the gravesite. It's a goofy movie so be prepared. Get ready for lots of mad-cap action, wild car chases, explosions, yucks and jokes. There's a monumental fight between Kato and Britt. No one could possibly escape from that melee without bruises and wounds, but these two do. The villains chasing the fearless duo in the newspaper plant is a long scene that could be condensed. The film is too long and drawn-out and needs closer editing and tightening.

Super-hero movie by the Eternal Sunshine French director!?

I'm a fan of super-hero movies in general and I rented this with ratherlow expectations based on the preview I had seen and what I read. Itturns out I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly entertained. Thisis definitely not your standard super-heroic dramatic movie, nor is ita parody. One could describe it as an action-comedy with masked men asprotagonists. I had strong doubts about Seth Rogen as the titularcharacter, but I think he turned out a very good casting choice as thebumbling yet likable titular playboy character. The actual hero of thepiece is Kato, the Asian "chauffeur", who's not only a superb martialartist but seems to have (almost) every talent the Green Hornet doesnot. Their chemistry was good and their interactions were a lot of fun, with Kato being mostly the straight man to Rogen's comedian. The"sidekick" being the actual hero of the piece was original and I likedhow it didn't fall into the trap of the Green Hornet being demeaning ordismissive to Kato. Quite the contrary in fact, the Hornet admires himgreatly and they strike a fast friendship.I found the writing both clever and funny, although it relies a lot onRogen's good, enthusiastic delivery for the funny parts. Anotherhighlight was the bearded villain of the piece, the multilingual Nazicolonel from Inglorious Basterds, who does a lot with relativelylittle. As a viewer, you come to relish his potential reactions.Cameron Diaz did a fine job but seemed somewhat miscast. She alsoseemed older than she actually is in real life. However, I applaud howoriginal and non-cliché her relationship was with the main characters, especially for a "love interest". Another original element of the GreenHornet was how he intentionally passed himself off as a villain insteadof playing the typical do-gooder.The fight scenes, although not super-powered, looked strikingly dynamicand dazzling. I loved the combination of changing speeds (slow-motionreminiscent of Watchmen but different) with the lights highlighting thepriority targets. Actually, it might not be that noticeable on a firstviewing, but the directing in this was masterful and once again prettyoriginal, especially for a super-hero movie. I wondered why that wasuntil I was thoroughly surprised to see, in the end credits, it hadbeen Michel Gondry (of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind's fame)who directed this. Who knew such a quirky French director could do suchan amazing job with a mostly forgotten "super-hero"? I think he, andhis collaborators, really modernized, in a great way, the Green Hornetuniverse. I highly recommend this film as either a purchase or rental, and this comes from someone initially "allergic" to the premise.Rating: 8.5 out of 10 (Remarkable)

"Mindless" entertainment that is - whatdya know? - actually entertaining

If there is one prediction for 2011 that we can make at this point,it's that Hollywood isn't going to change. One glance at the currentslate of movies scheduled for this year reveals a barrage of the usualsuspects: remakes (Fright Night, Conan the Barbarian), literaryadaptations (Jane Eyre, One Day, The Help), sequels/prequels (Piratesof the Caribbean 4, Harry Potter 7 Part 2, Transformers 3, Twilight 4Part 1) and of course, that 21st-century Tinseltown staple - thesuperhero movie. With Marvel continuing to gear up for its 2012Avengers extravaganza with movies like Thor and Captain America andvarious other projects set to be released throughout the summer andfall, The Green Hornet should probably consider itself lucky to arrivefirst and ahead of what might prove to be an overdose of super come theend of the year. It's not only its early release date that makes The Green Hornet standout. What most attracted the attention (and, to be fair, skepticism) ofthe fanboy and film worlds was the involvement of Seth Rogen, as boththe Green Hornet himself and as a co-writer, and of Michael Gondry, helmer of such off-beat fare as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,The Science of Sleep and Be Kind Rewind. It was an intriguing prospect, and the final product, though I wish Gondry had incorporated more ofhis quirky, artsy sensibility, isn't half-bad. With a laid-back,not-taking-itself-too-seriously tone and vaguely satirical intentions,The Green Hornet is more Iron Man than Batman. The main draw, though, is the cast. Our protagonist, Britt Reid, isn'tyour typical superhero or even your typical plain-old hero; he's anegomaniac, doesn't have the brightest mind in the world and tells hisever-disapproving father (played with a sort of resigned lethargy byTom Wilkinson) that his ambitions amount to earning a degree from ITTTechnical Institute. With no real job in sight, at least not until thedeath of his father leaves him in charge of the newspaper The DailySentinel, Britt spends most of his time partying and getting wasted, but Seth Rogen portrays him as such an earnest, well-intentioned schlubthat, even if he is never quite endearing, we learn to tolerate theguy. I can't think of another actor that could have made the part work.As the perpetually insecure and slightly flamboyant Chudnofsky,Christoph Waltz brings charisma and the constant hint of a smile to anotherwise throwaway villain, and Edward Furlong has a delightful, JamesFranco-esque cameo. Cameron Diaz is convincing enough as Lenore Case,Britt's new secretary and the unknowing "mastermind" behind the GreenHornet, but her character is so unsubstantial on paper that it's easyto forget she even exists and to imagine the movie working well enoughwithout her. The real star of the film, however, is Jay Chou's Kato, without whom Rogen's Britt, and not to mention the movie itself, wouldbe completely lost. Already a superstar overseas, Chou has aneffortless cool that should easily win over American audiences as well. So, what is The Green Hornet actually about? Despite their persistentreputation as little more than cash-cows for Hollywood studios, mostsuperhero movies actually revolve around some sort of deeper theme, whether it is a battle cry against homophobia (X-Men) and weapons andwar (Iron Man) or an exploration of the nature of vigilante justice(the Batman movies, especially Christopher Nolan's work) and teen angst(Spider-Man). I'm not at all familiar with the original Green Hornetradio series or any of the related mythology, but Gondry, Rogen and theother writers were probably aiming for something about journalisticintegrity; the phrase is even used once or twice in the movie. The plotarc is there (one of the antagonists is a D.A. who uses the Sentinel todownplay crime in Los Angeles in order to make himself look good to theelectorate), but it somehow seems a bit hypocritical when Brittbasically uses his position at the newspaper to provide the Hornet'sdeeds with more publicity. The truth is, The Green Hornet is really a buddy comedy disguised as asuperhero movie, a somewhat Apatowian bromance with less raunch andmore explosions. Despite solid special effects and a fairlyinteresting, if not mind-blowing, action sequence (I refer to to theone where Kato first unleashes his martial art-fighting abilities), thefilm is strongest when focusing on the banter between its two leads. When Gondry turns toward the action in the final half hour or so, as ifto remind us that this is, indeed, a superhero movie, the result is aclimactic fight that is so over-the-top, it's ludicrous, but not soludicrous as to be particularly enjoyable or funny. In the end, thanks to the charm of its cast, especially Jay Chou, andthe breezy script, The Green Hornet will most likely be one of thebetter offerings in the Annual Hollywood Dumping Ground known asJanuary, and is worthwhile for those seeking a lighter alternative tothe Oscar-bait currently crowding the theaters.
