cool.......This movie was pretty cool. It has it's points that are boring, but most of the time it is really good. I think this is a movie of any age as it will be preditable and also fun. |

Must seeI grew up watching this movie it's a must see. I liked the music from this movie as well. I must say though while I like this movie it's has some sadness to it as well. Because the 'heavenly kid' lost his whole future and family he could have had. |

Cute 80's movieThis was a cute movie that I remember being called for as an extra in back in north Miami when I was in high school. It was originally supposed to be called Teen Angel. I bought it to share with my family and we enjoyed it. |

BoringI really didn't care for this one. A teen flick with beginner acting, but some of the music was ok. |

It's about timeI used to watch this movie with my dad. I hadn't seen it for so long that I couldn't believe I found it on DVD. It's a great romantic comedy. I just hope they will update it. I think it would be a great movie to do it to. |

Good-hearted rainy-day teen flickIt is unfortunate that "The Heavenly Kid" became lost under the vastmuddle of slick teen comedies that were so rampant during the mid1980's. This film, which has a pre-"Malcolm In The Middle" JaneKaczmarek, "Animal House's" Mark Metcalf, "Backdraft's" Jason Gedrick, and veteran actor Richard Mulligan, really shined through for me as anentertaining (yet predictable) dramedy on guardian angels. It is the story of a brash 1960's greaser named Bobby Fantana, amiablyplayed by TV actor Lewis Smith, who meets an untimely demise in a dragrace accident. Once transported into the Afterlife, Bobby teams up withhis roguish, motorcycle-driving spectral mentor Rafferty (Mulligan) anddiscovers from him that he hasn't quite earned his right into Paradise, and the only way he can redeem himself is to undertake an earthlyassignment in assisting the mortals. Fast forwarding to the 1980's,Bobby is given the dubious task of coaching Lenny Barnes (Gedrick), agifted, gawky teen who is a popular target for the class bullies. It'sup to him to befriend and guide the boy through his little life crisis, and he decides to transform Lenny into a cool, confidentsplitting-image of himself that soon gains the attention of his peers. All is fine until Lenny's newfound cockiness butts heads with hisfamily and with two of his old tormentors, who finally challenge him toa drag race of their own. It's then up to Bobby to rectify the damagehe has unintentionally done and save Lenny from repeating history whilehopefully garnering his wings at last.Although many critics have scathed this film for a rather shallow, loopholed storyline, "The Heavenly Kid" does exude some attributes thatI have come to enjoy over the years. The soundtrack is one of the bestI've heard for an 80's teen flick; just love "Out on the Edge" duringBobby's fatal racing scene. Lewis Smith's performance gives a uniquelygenial quality to his loner character that makes a sometimes funny"Odd-Couplesque" persona with both Gedrick and Mulligan. Seeing Bobbyacclimate to the radically different 80's pop culture brings a laugh ortwo to myself! Finally, even though the ending is entirely predictable,it always leaves me feeling good inside, even on a bleak, rainySaturday. It is also unfortunate that "The Heavenly Kid" has gone out-of-print inrecent years! I was lucky enough to record it off of HBO this pastsummer for my collection, but I think it does deserve a chance for aVHS/DVD re-release. This is one comedy that the entire family canenjoy, provided there's no objection to some PG-13 based language andadult humor. |

Fantastic movie!Great movie about father-son relationship. It really touches the heart. Relatively nice script, outstanding soundtrack, and a remarkable concept, it is a fiction story that delivers wonderful lessons in life about choices and doing the right things in life - including sacrifices. |

A hidden 80's gemThis was light romantic comedy in the mid-80's that is a hidden gem. Imagine having to teach someone how to be cool and win over girls and the pearly gates open? That is one divine assignment that seems really hard for some and a piece of cake for others. The Heavenly Kid is one to watch when you want a movie you don't have to think too much about. |

movieminister--you have to be kidding!!!!!First off, learn how TO spell------in the way that you used it, it is'to' not 'too'----also, regardless of being able to enjoy a film forpure entertainment value or actually looking at a film's script, direction, etc., this one (Heavenly Kid) was just plain horrible! Beinga 'movieminister' I think you should watch this one again. It had a lotof potential, the plot was primary and the acting was below local livetheater quality, but it had moments of endearing cuteness. But,overall, there is good reason why it has become lost in the shelves ofeven the most sub-par video stores. Of course there has been many goodlittle movies that have suffered such a fate. But, this one's fate iswell deserved. Everyone has their guilty pleasure movies that theythink were great for one reason or another. But, to say that panningthis movie for bad script, etc. is (I think the word you usedwas--)'ridiculous' is just plain silly and one sided. Some people canenjoy a movie for pure entertainment value and still look at it in acritical way----there is nothing 'ridiculous' about that. |

One of My Fav 80's ComediesBasically this movie is about a guy that ends up dying way too young from acar crash. In order for him to get into heaven, he has to help out ateenager with certain things. I don't want to go too far into it b/c Idon't want to risk spoiling it for anyone who hasn't seen it. Looking back at it now, it's a little aged but no matter how many times I'veseen it, I still laugh at this movie. I know that it's quite predictable attimes, especially after you've watched other movies with similiarplots/scripts. But it's still one of those films that I watch e every timeI see it on cable. :)Good family movie that can bring up some laughter in theprocess. |

Much better than expected. This review is from: The Heavenly Kid (DVD) At first glance, one might be inclined to think, "Typical weird '80s movie". But with a campy feel and the added bonus of Jane Kaczmarek (of "Malcolm in the Middle" fame), this moves to cult classic. A '60s greaser, Bobby, comes back after a fiery car crash to be a kid's guardian angel, and only if he helps does he gain entrance to "uptown" (Heaven). Powerful moments come when Bobby sees his '60s girlfriend all grown up. Surprisingly deep movie from what could've been just another hijinks buddy comedy. |

An Angel With Dirty Wings.A kid (Lewis Smith) from the late-1960s (who appears to be from the 1950sdue to his antics and wardrobe) dies one night in a chicken car race. He isunable to get into Heaven though because of his life on Earth so thus hegoes back to the 1980s and tries to help a dorky high school student (JasonGedrick) become popular and cool. Also along for the ride is Gedrick'smother/Lewis' old girlfriend (Jane Kaczmarek of "Malcolm in the Middle"fame) and motorcycle-riding guardian angel Richard Mulligan. So many plotholes and predictable twists stall this one pretty fast. Smith and Mulligando what they can together, but they have elementary-styled aspects offilm-making to work with. Everything else is not worth your time or effort. Not the worst film of the time period, but another one of those unwantedfootnotes from the mid-1980s. 2 stars out of 5. |

Better than you'd think-laugh out loud hilarious...This film is an unknown classic. I caught it one time on vacation andrented promptly afterwards. Sure, it has a few plot holes here and there, but please-what movie doesn't? Seriously, has anybody looked at the "goofs"section for other movies? Come on!It's a teen movie which should have been released in this day and age...mygeneration would appreciate it much more. My friends and I were rolling onthe floor during such parts as *spoiler* when Bobby and Lenny get high, orwhen Lenny thinks he's so studly after he's "scored". There are also sweetmoments when *spoiler* Bobby reunites with his old girlfriend Emily (he diedin a car crash in the '60s and has come back as an angel to protect Lenny sohe can get into heaven...not exactly on the line with my beliefs...butanyways) who is Lenny's mom...and we find out later *spoiler* that Bobby isLenny's dad. Very cute-Bobby is willing to go "downtown" (Hell) for hisson...it shows true character and heartfelt love. Beautiful soundtrack, beautiful plot, beautiful movie. |

WonderfulThis review is from: Totally Awesome 80s Double Feature: Teen Witch / The Heavenly Kid (DVD) Teen Witch is a great movie and the disc was in perfect shape (case was never openend). Heavenly Kid was bad even for an 80s movie. But, I did save money by purchasing the double feature so I'm not complaining! |

Insipid and illogical teen fantasySee, there's this kid who recreates the drag racing scene from Rebel WithoutA Cause, decked out in leather jacket, rolled up denim jeans, and slickedback hair. All his buddies wear stereotypical late 50s outfits and he LOVESElvis. The first piece of music we hear is Jerry Lee Lewis' "Whole LottaShakin' Goin' On". Unfortunately for our hero (and for us, thediscriminating filmgoer) he dies in a fiery wreck. Suddenly his soul istransported to the present day (1985!) where he must help a hapless teenscore with the ladies. (SPOILER ALERT) Only the hapless teen turns out to beour hero's real life son! Much hugging ensues!Let's back up. Our hapless teen is still in high school, so let's assumethat he's no more than 18 years old. This would put his birthdate somewherein the region of, er, 1967 AT THE EARLIEST. And yet his true father seems tohave died about ten years earlier! The whole premise of this film collapseslike a flimsy deck of cards.Even if you overlook the logical flaws of the film, it's a stinker. Maudlinand manipulative, it also features one of the worst '80s big hair'soundtracks you're likely to run across. |

Good moviesHubby talked me into buying this two disc movie at Walmart. I didn't know what movies they were. After watching them at home I realized I've seen Teen Witch. It is a cutie movie. I like the dance in the locker room and the rap the shy girl sang to the rapping teens. This is a really good movie.I've never seen Heavenly Boy before buying it. I thought it was pretty good and funny. What a trip to be an angel for a young boy who ends up being the son of your ex girlfriend. And to top it off, he is your son all along. I think it would have been better if the boy found out the angel was his dad. But they didn't go that way. |
