Plot Summary:
Simba and Nala have a daughter, Kiara. Timon and Pumbaa are assigned to be her babysitters, but she easily escapes their care and ventures into the forbidden lands. There she meets a lion cub named Kovu and they become friends. What she and her parents do not know is that Kovu is the son of Zira - a banished follower of the now-dead Scar. She plans to raise Kovu to overthrow Simba and become the king of the Pride Lands. This tests not only Kiara and Kovus relationship as they mature, but Simbas relationship with his daughter.

Surprisingly goodI was very pleasantly surprised by LK2. A lot of the actors who played thevoices in the first film are back (except for Rowan Atkinson asZazu...ARRGH! He is missed in this film!). I liked Kiara and Kovu verymuch. The animation is also startingly good for a straight to video release. Ididn't hate anything about this movie, and that's all I want out of afilm. |

Good MovieThis was a good movie, espically if you like the Disney Classics. The first one was better, but I still suggest this movie. |

Not GreatSimba's daughter can be described in one word: Rebellious. That seems to be the theme of Disney sequels these days...the main character's daughter/son (Usually daughter) is a rebellious adventurer who wants nothing more then to break away from the character we loved so much in the original movie. I personally find that plot to be over-used and a first-movie-ruiner. It's hard to feel the same about the original movie when the second movie is such a bummer. This movie was okay, not great. It was definately more violent and evil in some parts then the original The Lion King. Although Kiara was possibly a prettier lion then Nala, I found her to be slightly too emotional, and I didn't like that she was always trying to get away from, and take control of, almost everyone's favorite character, Simba. I find the whole "family/descendants of Scar" thing to be a little odd, too, since Scar would have had his family back him up in the first movie instead of the hyenas. And I THINK I remember Zira saying she was Scar's sister. Wouldn't that make her Mufasa's sister, too? Anyway, I liked this movie when I was around six or seven years old, and still like it now. But I think a lot of things could have been different, and I definately don't think it was as good as the original movie. |

A thrillng sequel to the best film of all time!Whoa!Attention, Lion King lovers! This film is a must-have! It provides and excellent epilouge to the original film. It's funny, adventurous, and...oh, man, it was just great. I'm not even gonna go into it. My single, solitary complaint is that there is not enough of Hakuna Matata. Still, this a film that everyone can enjoy--you don't have to be young or old, and it's not too scary or sad, or anything. It's just something to sit down and relax with. And I'm not even going to get started on the music. This film is rad and a must-see for fans of the first movie. As a summary, Simba and Nala's daughter, Kiara, runs away from the Pride Lands and meets another cub, Kovu. His pride was banishied for loyalty to Scar, and now he's been "chosen" somehow (okay, maybe I have two complaints--I don't really understand how he was chosen) to kill Simba and take over for Scar. Kiara is retrieved and brought back to the Pridelands, and it's not until Kovu is ready to complete the destiny is evil mother, Zira, cut out for him do they meet again, when Kovu "saves" the future queen from a fire. Siimba reluctantly agrees to see if Kovu has changed, not knowing that Kovu is really plotting to kill him once they are alone! But he's gradcually falling in love with Kiara, and that might change where his loyalties lie.An awesome film--one of Disney's greatest that ranks with Brother Bear, Pochahontas, and Treasure Planet as some of their greatest achievements. |

A Movie Worth the MoneyI have to say this movie is great for the very fact my grandson watched it 5 times or more over the weekend while he visited with us. He wants this movie for his Christmas present along with the original Lion King. Any movie that can keep him sitting still gets an A+ in my book. |

One of the better Disney sequels. When I was young and naive, I loved anything to do with the Lion King, and this movie was included. But now that I'm older and a little wiser, has my opinion changed? Yes.The Lion King II takes place after the birth of Simba's daughter Kiara. As she wanders out of the Pride Lands, she meets Kovu, an outsider lioncub who is apparently Scar's chosen successor. Also, the outsider lionsare members of some cult that Scar somehow gained off screen. I wouldfind all of this nice and dandy if Scar hadn't been STARVING EVERYONETO DEATH BECAUSE OF HIS INFLATED EGO. Seriously, how could anyone withbrain cells follow this inept and tyrannical king willingly? Anyway,Simba, being a protective father, doesn't want Kiara to hang out withKovu, as does Zira, leader of the outsiders and Scar's mate (what, washe keeping a harem of lionesses when the kids weren't looking?) Overthe years, Zira plots to have Kovu pretend to want to join Simba'sPride (like how I worked the title in there?)and assassinate him so hecan succeed the throne. Kovu and Kiara reunite as adults and Simbabegrudgingly accepts him, setting up the murder plot. But before youcan say contrived, the two lions fall in love and Simba begins toaccept Kovu as not being like the other outsiders. This of course makesthings awkward for Kovu, what with his mom wanting to kill the fatherof his lover.I'm not going to reveal the ending, so I'll talk about it like a realcritic. The plot is similar to Romeo and Juliet, as the first one wassimilar to Hamlet, except without all the death. The voices are okaybut not fantastic. I especially feel like Jason Marsden as Kovu is outof place. I like Jason Marsden and all, but he's supposed to be anoutsider kind of guy, and you get Tino from the Weekenders? The onlyvoice that's worth talking about is Zira, voiced by Suzanne Pleshette. She's the only one in the cast who's trying to take this more seriouslythan it's worth. But what's the Lion King without it's songs? The songs are actuallypretty good, especially since it's a direct to video Disney sequel. "HeLives in You" was actually taken from the Broadway musical and fitspretty well in the opening, "We Are One" is decent enough, "Not One ofUs" is the best song out of them, and "Love Will Find a Way", which hasto be the cheesiest song name ever, is the weakest out of the bettersongs, but still is okay. The only songs that I have a problem with are"My Lullaby" and "Upendi". "My Lullaby" isn't that bad, it's just alittle too similar to "Be Prepared" and it's overrated by the Lion Kingfan base."Upendi", on the other hand is just plainly bad. The music is reallycheap and contrived, it makes Rafiki look like a blithering moron, andyou can tell that th animators didn't care at all whether this lookedgood. It was probably made because of the fact that most kids movieshave a silly song among the rest of them.So in the end, is this movie a good sequel? Does it measure up to thefirst movie? Well, it almost works. The animation is really good for asequel, the story does try as hard as it can, the music is decent, andI kind of like how it doesn't just focus on Kiara and Kovu'srelationship, but on Simba and Kiara relationship as well. But thecharacters are a little bland, there's a few plot holes, and in theend, it was probably only made for money. At least you can tell thatthe writers were trying to make it good. It's a harmless and pretty funmovie. So if your kid asks for a Disney sequel, please get this oneamong the rest of the crap. |

Another vapid Disney sequelWas able to watch this about 11 years ago on television. The first LionKing is fairly good but this one falls way short. Most of the characters are not likable except for the hilarious Timonand Pumba but Simba is still his whiny self. Kiara and Kovu are alsonot characters that you feel drawn to and come off more as slightlyirritating. Even the villains in this sequel come up short of being theones you love to loathe. And do we really need to feel the love allover again with Kiara and Kovu just like with Simba and Nala in thefirst? Don't think so.Not the worst Disney sequel in the book but not the greatest either. |

The First Is Always BetterLion King the second wasn't a bad movie or anything, it's just that after watching the first you'd expect more. I thought that the lions looked weird and out of proportion....They looked short and thick. And the ending was almost an exact replica of Pocahontas. Two lions in love, they're families fighting, they stop it. Even the layout was similar. |

Great SequelThis review is from: The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride (Two-Disc Special Edition) (DVD) Most of the time, I do not believe Disney creates good sequels, but this one is really good. Yes, it does seem to be a rehash of the original, but sometimes history does repeat itself? I was thrilled that the lead character is female, and she's not some pretty pretty princess (which is what Disney usually does to female leads). Instead, she is a "rough and tumble gal". She does not get saved by the handsome knight, but saves the day herself (with the help of her friends). Kudos to Disney for releasing a great movie. |

I highly enjoyed this video. The Lion King II: Simba's Pride was excellent. It was just what it should be. This movie is a masterpiece. The songs were beautiful and my favorite was "Upendi". I have always been a fan of The Lion King. Ever since the original came out. The video is a few minutes shorter than the original, but that doesn't take away from the beauty of the movie. There were a few scenes that didn't quite have what the original had, but I still give this movie five stars. |

I've seen betterOkay let me first state that I do not exactly hate this film, I justdislike it.One of my main beefs with this film is the fact that Simba and Nalahave completely changed since the first film. Nala looks too much likeSarabi (who was missing in this film. They didn't even mention whathappened to Sarabi which confused me. But I'll get to the confusion ina bit) and Simba was such an asshole. Nala is just there. She doesn'tplay an important role, she's just there for the sake of being there. Now onto the confusion. After watching this film again, there were toomany plot holes left. Why exactly did the outlanders get banished? We may never know.Kiara was very annoying. She basically doesn't want to be queen whileSimba as a a cub did. How original! What really annoyed me about Kiarawas her overall personality; she was basically stupid and spoiled. Atleast Kovu wasn't AS annoying and spoiled as Kiara was.Although we are meant to feel sorry for Kiara half way through thefilm, as much as I wanted to feel sorry for her; I just couldn't. If Ifelt sorry for anyone; it was Zira. She was blinded by revenge and hateto the point where it killed her. I was hoping that she at LEAST wouldbe able to forgive Simba and live in the pride lands happily but no;she had to die in the end.I did like the soundtrack and all and the movie did have a lot ofpotential. However, it was poorly executed. |

One of the better DTV sequels!Of course, it isn't as good as the stunning original, but it'sdefinitely better than the Little Mermaid, Jungle Book and Cinderellasequels which ranged from disappointing to lame. It's also in myopinion in the top 3 of the better DTV sequels, which are The King ofThieves(Aladdin)and Enchanted Christmas(Beauty and the Beast). What makes it good is the welcome return of Timon and Pumbaa, whobrought great comic relief, although they weren't as funny. The songs, while not as outstanding as the original, were actually not that bad atall. He lives in You is wonderfully uplifting. Zira was also veryconvincing, much better than Morgana. I don't think though that she wasas convincing a villain as Scar, who to me is on of the best Disneyvillains along with Jafar, Ursula, Frollo, Maleficent, The Wicked Queenand Ratigan oddly enough. The animation actually wasn't that badeither, though sometimes fell flat in the darker scenes, but it wascolourful, crisp and lively on the whole. The negatives are very few actually. In the Little Mermaid sequel, Iput more cons than pros, but not here. Kiara and Kuvu are a littleunconvincing, likewise with Simba, they just lacked depth. And thestory isn't quite as gripping and is sometimes a little on thepredictable side. But of course, the sequel is hardly ever better thanthe original, with the exception of perhaps Toy Story. In conclusion, a flawed but enjoyable sequel to a cinematicmasterpiece, though the original isn't as good as Beauty and the Beast.7/10 Bethany Cox |

DisappointingThe only reason I didn't give Lion King II: Simba's Pride a 1 out of 10 isbecause it was a good story. The fours years that followed the originalLionKing did not help the quality of the animation of part 2 very much.Qualityof scenes in which characters are shown from a distance are less than whatone would expect from a Disney production. The songs were awfully written, and the transition from Rowan Atkinson toEdward Hibbert as Zazu the Hornbill was about as smooth as the hide of aporcupine. Zebras and antelope never speak in the original Lion King (andfor good reason as you will discover in the sequel), but in this part theysing, dance and more. The story, however, was very good, just like the voices. They could havemade Lion King II a sequel comparable in critical acclaim to Disney andPixar's Toy Story 2 if they put some more work into it. More like, if theytotally rewrote the script and tossed (at least) 1 song out the window, rewrote whatever songs they decided to keep and a little more detailedworkon the animation. |

Better than other Disney SequelsLion King II is better than other Disney "Cheapquels." But of course itis still worse than the original Lion King, and really not worthseeing. On the positive, this movie transitions nicely from the formerfilm and also has semi decent music tunes. But one of the biggestthings that points out is just how the over all quality is so muchbelow that of the original. Instead of being done by a major moviestudio the animation was done by an inferior television studio. Attimes the movie can become repetitive as well, originality lacks asthey mainly just repeat a lot of the elements from the first Lion King. Finally, often character designs can't ruin the film, but a lot of thenew characters in this movie give it a bit of a dumb feeling. The onlycharacters who look like they were designed by professionals were theones from the original movie. Final Verdict: Definitely buy the firstLion King before getting this one, and frankly there are many otherDisney Classics that you'll find a lot more entertaining than thismovie. Take "pride" in this sequel!I LOVE the original Lion King, but when Disney announced that they were doing a sequel to it I got rather miffed....the other sequels (like the second Aladdin) were an insult to one's intelligence. But when I at last saw Simba's Pride I was totally thrilled. It introduced new great characters, enchanting songs, the story was kept pretty much in the spirit of the original and, even though they probably never thought of doing a sequel when they made the first one, the story's sequel was cleverly done. The only things I didn't like about this movie was that Rowan Atkinson (who did Zazu's voice in the original) apparently couldn't supply his voice for the sequel so you can tell it's someone else's voice. Unlike in the original, the other animals (zebra's, giraffes, etc.) have a few speaking parts and even take part in one of the songs. The animation isn't as good as the original but it's still great and I thought a lot better than the other Disney sequels. These are just minor things of course, I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to animation. I love this as much as the orignal and I truly hope they do yet another Lion King sequel. |
