Story Line

Plot Summary:

What made the original Toy Story so great, besides its significant achievement as the first-ever feature-length computer animated film, was its ability to instantly transport viewers into a magical world where it seemed completely plausible that toys were living, thinking beings who sprang to life the minute they were alone and wanted nothing more than to be loved and played with by their children. Toy Story 3 absolutely succeeds in the very same thing--adults and children alike, whether theyve seen the original film or not, find themselves immediately immersed in a world in which Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head (Don Rickles and Estelle Harris), Ham (John Ratzenberger), Rex (Wallace Shawn), the aliens, and the rest of Andys toys remain completely devoted to Andy (John Morris) even as hes getting ready to pack up and leave for college. Woody scoffs at the other toys worries that theyll end up in the garbage, assuring them that theyve earned a spot of honor in the attic, but when the toys are mistakenly donated to Sunnyside Daycare, Woody is the only toy whose devotion to Andy outweighs the promise of getting played with each and every day. Woody sets off toward home alone while the other toys settle in for some daycare fun, but things dont turn out quite as expected at the daycare thanks to the scheming, strawberry-scented old-timer bear Lots-o-Huggin (Ned Beatty). Eventually, Woody rejoins his friends and they all attempt a daring escape from the daycare, which could destroy them all. The pacing of the film is impeccable at this point, although the sense of peril may prove almost too intense for a few young viewers. Pixars 3-D computer animation is top-notch as always and the voice talent in this film is tremendous, but in the end, its Pixars uncanny ability to combine drama, action, and humor in a way that irresistibly draws viewers into the world of the film that makes Toy Story 3 such great family entertainment. Where's The Magic?

This review is from: Toy Story 3 (DVD) Somewhere along the way, Pixar apparently stopped making fun movies, and started making dark, depressing ones. Judging by the glowing reviews this movie (and its predecessors "Up" and "Wall-E") have received, I'm in the minority in not liking this movie. I just found it to be an overly long, sad, morbid, dark and incredibly depressing movie, despite its attempt at an uplifting ending. Picture the Emily and Jessie abandonment scene from Toy Story 2, dragged out for an hour and 40 minutes...thats what this film is like. Kind of like "Up" cast with Toy Story characters. Even in the extras, the cast and crew are talking about how sad, and "bittersweet" the experience was. Again, where's the fun, the magic? Its a long, drawn-out goodbye scene with creepy evil toys, dark scenery, gambling, raging infernos, etc. thrown in. Pixar movies used to make you feel young at heart, now all they seem to want to do is feel old. And I'm not ready to feel that way watching a Toy Story movie, so I doubt I'll ever watch this installment again. I wouldn't recommend it for very young kids either due to some intense scenes, and also due to the fact that the movie is just flat-out not fun. But take my dissenting opinion with a grain of salt, as of this review I'm only the 5th one-star reviewer so I guess I just dont "get it," or I'm just one of the rare people that still want to experience that fun Pixar magic when I'm watching Toy Story. Biggest film letdown of 2010 for me but your experience is likely to differ.

excellent conclusion to the greatest trilogy ever!!!

Whether your a toddler, a child, a teenager, or an adult, you will lovethis film, especially if you love Pixar, which is about everybody outthere. Every Pixar movie, with the exception of Cars, is terrific, butthe best is Toy Story. Toy Story 2 was also great, but then this cameand perfectly concluded the trilogy, surpassing Toy Story 2. Pixar'sfirst trilogy, and the greatest trilogy ever! Also the funniest Pixar film, even though its not as good as the first, but just by a tiny bit. It has comedy, action, and tons of emotion. Hasa really clever plot, which borrows from The Great Escape a little bit.Andy is heading out to college, leaving the toys in depression. Theyget donated to a Daycare center which looks like a toy paradise, butturns out to be a prison led by a pink bear named Lotso where new toysare played with by roudy toddlers that play with them like rag dolls,in which they plot to escape. The fact that the first was the first movie I've ever seen is the onlyreason I like it better, but this film is not only funnier, but is alot more epic, of course thats because its the last one, with the mostemotional ending in Pixar. You will cry watching this film if you are afan of Pixar, guaranteed. I don't just love the ending, but I can'thelp but think back at the other ones. Its emotional not just for themovie, but it even reminds me of when I had to give something up that Ireally liked in my childhood, such as my Rescue Heroes, or my DragonBall Z action figures, or even some Toy Story toys that I had of myown. No matter what you think, never feel the movie's plot is fadingthroughout, cause in the end it will all be resolved. You will be stunned by how good this film is. It was 10x better thanwhat I expected. Without a doubt the second best Pixar film, and alsoone of my top ten favorite films.

It's a well-earned curtain call for some of the most beloved characters in one of the best-sustained feats of recent cinema.

Brilliant, Satisfying and Emotional! Pixar has added even more depth to the Toy Story franchise.

Fantastic movie that boldly completes the trilogy in a satisfying,tear-wiping story of insight and meaning. It's a rare moment in filmwhere the sequels continue getting better, adding context and deptheach time which makes the whole more than just the parts.Pixar took a huge risk to revisit the movie (again!) which made itfamous. Even more incredible is their willingness to risk marring thisbrand by advancing the storyline and tackling issues like friendship, freedom, purpose, milestones and letting go.It might not be as kid-friendly as the first two Toy Story movies, butthen again, it's been 15 years since the first movie. The audience hasgrown-up, just as Andy has. I actually appreciate the story arc andtrying to answer the eventual questions we all had - "What happensAFTER Andy?" If you're concerned for your children... simply wait untilthey're a little older. I think it would've been less brilliant tosimply try to copy the same formula from 1 & 2.I know that at some point early in the movie I stopped even thinkingabout animation or even toys as the movie is so well done all you seeare characters. When they face the prospect of death together, it's astouching as if they were alive -- and after all, we've grown to knowand love these characters too.For those that liked the first two better, just wait. We had YEARS ofadmiring them on repeat viewings. I think Toy Story 3 will gain innostalgia value and eventually be seen as the perfect ending to theseries. Even now I'm wistful thinking about that final scene, and thetouching concern shown by Andy (and the writers) for our specialfriends.

Not for Toddlers, but Still Terrific

In Toy Story 3, Andy has to decide what to do with his toys as he prepares to leave for college. Woody, Buzz, and friends end up at Sunnyside, a dark and notorious daycare center ruled by the evil stuffed bear Lots-O. Their attempt to escape and get back home results in the most dangerous and thrilling adventure of their lives.Though just as hilarious as the first two, Toy Story 3 is more serious. In fact, I concur with Michael Medved's opinion that it could be rated PG rather than G. There are some very scary parts, one of which caused several children in the theatre to cry out loud. There are also some very touching, even sad, parts, as the film deals with the theme of growing up and moving on.I mentioned the humor. Though most of it is great, there is some potty humor. And some of the scenes with Barbie and Ken (who plays a major part in this movie) were over the top (for a preschooler, anyway).Overall, Toy Story 3 is a terrific movie. The animation is amazing, and some of the scenes are breath-taking (or heart stopping). You won't find a more enjoyable movie for the little ones or the grown-ups.

"You would not believe the day I am having!" How to make a successful trilogy

The toys numbers are few. They are stored in a box, and there's littlefor them to do in there except go stir crazy as Andy grows up and headsfor college, BUT, he has to sort out his room and his old toys, sowhat's his plan ...To put his best loved in the attack but take hisbest friend to college as a token of the youth he has now left behind, but who will go, Woody or Buzz, after deciding on Woody, he gets readyto put them in the attic, but things don't go to plan and the toysincluding Buzz are instead donated to a nursery, a place which lookslike Paradise but is in fact no better than the boy next door'sbackyard. Will the toys escape from Sunnyside Prison nursery, willWoody get to go to college, will this film feel simply like acashing-in add-on? When I heard the plot initially I had to say yes to the final question,I mean Andy giving his prized toy away, I mean everyone has a specialtoy who they love the most, right? And there lies the magic, Pixardon't do contradictions like that in there films, and in this one theystay absolutely loyal to everything that has gone before. The film isexciting, funny, terrifying and charming from one second to the next.Lotso the bear, the leader of the nursery toys is one of the mostterrifying villains created by Pixar, precisely because he appears socute and cuddly, and while children won't register it, I personallyfound the scene where Buzz was, effectively tortured to be veryupsetting, but that's because we love these characters so much. Theanimation is as usual first rate and you know off the bat immediatelythat you're watching a Pixar film, the voice work, particularly byHanks is stunning and with him and Tim Allen you get the feeling thatthey know these characters so well, it makes it that much more real, sucking all of us into this completely make believe world. Thedirection is top-drawer and well ...well I'll just stop because if I goon I'll just start using the same phrases everyone else does.I thought I might be watching a watered down version of Toy Story 2, Iwas wrong. Instead through these wonderful films we watched Andy growup and all of us mourned the passing from children into adulthood withsome brand new toys that will made us feel like kids all over again, for infinity and beyond.awesome

To me, this is by far and large the best Pixar film to date!

To me, Pixar have never yet made a bad film, even their weakest Cars isactually very good. Like a lot of people here, I grew up with and lovedthe first two Toy Story films and still love them. As is consistentlythe case with Pixar they are superbly animated, sophisticated and hadgreat characters. Toy Story 3 somehow managed to do the seeminglyimpossible, while its Toy Storys 1 and 2 have a special place in myheart, this film was even better.Perhaps Toy Story 3 isn't the most original of the trilogy or of thePixar films, but that made little difference to me. While the darkestof the three, it still maintained the predecessors' heart and charm, and overall it was just an amazing film full-stop from start to finish, and easily one of the best of the year. The animation is just superb here. Hardly a surprise though, as theanimation was phenomenal also in Toy Storys 1 and 2, but to me it wasjust as sophisticated and as colourful here if not more so. I alsoloved the music, that said I don't think it is the best Pixar score(Up)or best score of the year, but it is almost certainly one of RandyNewman's better efforts and I liked the You've Got a Friend in Merepeat. The pacing is just fine as well, and the story is tremendously engagingwith plenty of humorous, tense, exciting and genuinely affectingscenes. The ending especially resonated with my entire family, especially my brother, while the scene in the dump is for me Pixar'smost intense scene.I was also delighted with the film's script. The dialogue was alwayswitty and sharp, none of it felt forced in any way. There was thebrilliantly judged humour- Buzz speaking Spanish was just one of thehighlights and the beginning alone had about 5 or 6 laughs- and alsothe poignant parts that avoided being overly-sentimental and mawkish.Another strength is in the characters. All the main characters are aslikable as ever, Woody is still determined, Buzz is a sheer delight,Jessie(though I actually like her) is more tolerable here and Mr PotatoHead is hilarious. But the new characters are just as wonderful, thebaby is both creepy and cute and I felt for him at the end, the cymbalmonkey especially for that shriek is one of Pixar's scariestcharacters, Lotso looks cuddly but is actually shady and bitter with anunrelenting past and Ken is cool without being bland or annoying. As ever, the voice work is brilliant from all involved, not just fromTom Hanks and Tim Allen but also from Ned Beatty whose crusty demeanourfitted Lotso like a glove. In conclusion, a truly brilliant film and a fitting conclusion to anamazing trilogy. 10/10 Bethany Cox

The worst Toy Story of the three

TOY STORY 3. I can't understand the hype. People are saying this movieis better than the other two. I totally disagree. The first two werewell made and the story was new and exciting. This movie is way toosappy. It tries to pull your emotional strings. It is very obvious. Whydon't they just tell the story without trying so hard to win theaudience over. It goes out of its way to try to make you cry and pilesit on thick. There's too much of everything in this one. Too manyplots, too many gimmicks and too much loud sound. I hope this is theend of the Toy Story saga, because they are going downhill. The firsttwo were winners. 5/10

Best Toy Story movie

I cried twice in this movie. And I don't cry easily in movies. Before the movie even started, I was hooked on the Pixar Short: Day andNight. One word: brilliant. Then begins the movie which started off typically: flashback to Andyplaying with the toys; we find out Andy's going to college; toys getfreaked out about being left behind and forgotten or worse, thrownaway; and from one little mistake, the toys get sent to Sunnysidedaycare. Woody however, is determined to get back to Andy but ends upgetting whisked away by a little girl named Bonnie. After finding outthat some of the old toys in the daycare aren't all that nice, Woodyheads back to the daycare to save his friends. This movie has it all. Funny (e.g. Mr. Potato Head's body parts on thetortilla, Spanish-speaking Buzz), exciting (e.g. escaping the daycare, trying to get out of the landfill), and of course, touching (the last10-15 minutes of the movie). First scene that made me cry: when they all got dumped into the fierypit. I mean, I knew that it wasn't gonna end that way but seeing allthe toys hold hands and whatnot really got to me.The other scene that made me (and probably everyone else) cry thehardest: when Andy is giving the toys away to little Bonnie. I startedtearing up as he was giving each toy away, but when he got to Woody, Istarted bawling and couldn't stop it. Thank goodness I was wearingthose 3D glasses to somewhat hide the waterworks. Like all Disney/Pixar movies, it has so many morals and themes thateveryone can relate to it and it really hits a soft spot. My oldersister, who is 26, cried because it reminded her of her childhood; howwe all have to grow up at some point. And for me, and I'm 20, it wasabout letting that things you love go because it's for the best. I. Love. This. Movie. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor andgo see it. If you've already seen it, watch it again.

Toy Story 3,Heart warming and funny, definitely a classic

The plot summary goes something like this. Andy is going off to collegeand is no longer interesting in playing with toys. He chooses to takeWoody (voice of Tom Hanks) with him and leaves Buzz Lightyear (voice ofTim Allen), Jessie (voice of Joan Cusack), Mr. Potato Head (voice ofDon Rickles), Mrs. Potato Head (voice of Estelle Harris), Rex (voice ofWallace Shawn), Barbie (voice of Jodie Benson), Aliens (voice of JeffPidgeon, Hamm (voice of John Ratzenberger), Slinky Dog (voice of BlakeClark), and Bullseye (non speaking) behind to be put in the attic. Theattic toys mistakenly wind up going to a local daycare. They arethrilled about the move, because they are under the impression thatAndy doesn't want them because of the mistaken voyage. But soon theyfind out it is not always greener on the other side. They areconstantly abused by the younger children and they are soon under thepower of the great Lotso (voice of Ned Beatty and his right hand manKen (voice of Michael Keaton), followed by the giant, freakish, lazyeyed, non speaking toddler. They find themselves being held prisonerthere and Woody must come to their rescue. Woody and the gang must raceagainst time to free themselves from the evil Lotso and crew so thatthey can get home before Andy leaves for college. The theme for Toy Story 3 is things aren't always what they seem andthat you shouldn't jump to conclusions. Love is unconditional! Not thatAndy is going away to college and the toys start feeling like they areuseless, they find themselves having a hard time dealing with what theyknew to be inevitable the whole time. They knew there would come a daywhere Andy would grow up and leave home and then they would be thrownout or store away somewhere. Woody was not pleased with what realityhad in store for him but as a faithful toy he knew what he had to do.Andy's other toys (Buzzlightyear, Jessie, and Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head,Rex, Aliens, Hamm, Slinky Dog, Bullseye) and new member Barbie (Andy'ssister's old toy) think that Andy doesn't care about them anymore andthey want to move on. They are not content with being some old used toythat is going to wait around for Andy. They want to be loved and playedwith. They would not be happy just sitting in the attic to just bethrown out one day. They end up accidentally getting tossed into thegarbage. They don't realize this is an accident and soon find themeager to be taken to a nearby orphanage to get dropped off. Woody tellsthem over and over again that it is all a mistake and that Andy lovesthem. Jessie insists that they are not loved and are looking forward togoing to the day care. They realize that Woody was right and now theymay never see Andy again.Another example of theme would be once they get to the daycare; thekids are mean and play rough with them. There so called new friendsthat they meet there turn on them and things are way worse than theyever imagined. They knew that they should have listened to Woody andthey wouldn't have been in this mess. They should have also trusted intheir long time friend Andy.I think that the lighting and angles of subjective view of thecharacters through the majority of the movie kept you involved and madeyou really feel what the characters felt. It heightened emotion and asembarrassing as it is to say that I cried over an animated movie, Imust admit it. The dialogue and lighting used on the scene where Andyand his mother say their goodbyes and he assures her that he willalways be with her no matter where they are in the world was reallytouching. This movie is by far the best of all the other Toy Story movies andfrom my understanding may be the last. I strongly suggest you go seethis movie. It has a good story line and is filled with suspense, action, drama, adult humor as well as all around humor, sadness andreal life lessons. It is an all around great movie for any age and isterrific for families. It is also definitely worth the money to see itin the theater. I didn't see it in 3D because it was not an option andI hate wearing those glasses. I do think it is available in someplaces. Big thumbs up on this one!

This review is from: Toy Story 3 (DVD) Unbelievable, I didn't think they could do it again but they did. This movie is the cherry on top, it was a wonderful conclusion to the Andy's Toys saga and it was just as enjoyable as the other two - pure genius. if you love and own the first two your collection will never be complete without Toy Story 3

a must own dvd

To me if you loved the over 2 movies then you will love this movie. It makes you feel like you all grown up and then you forget about the toys you loved as a kid some what sad and happy at the same time, so enjoy this great movie

Toy Story 3: Finally, the Third Time's a Charm

Pixar has never failed to deliver a worthwhile movie-going experience.Everything Pixar has done is better than anything Dreamworks has done, and that includes Shrek, because Pixar movies have story, and heart, and a respect for the audience. All this said, I was afraid to see ToyStory 3, because it is a sequel to a sequel, something Hollywood hasnever done well. Take the Godfather saga—Godfathers 1 and 2 are theiconic American story; Godfather 3 is mess made long after the othersand starring the director's daughter. Or take the blatant case of "Ihave no ideas left, but can still make some money"—Back to the Future3. Like Godfather 2, Back to the Future 2 worked hard to explain thecause and effect behind the original. In Back to the Future 3, they hadMichael J. Fox for a couple extra months, so they put a cowboy hat onhim and waited for the money to roll in. To their great credit, Pixarhas created a Toy Story 3 that is true to the original, but that hasits own story, one that expands on the earlier films with a new messageof not living in the past. I knew Pixar had not failed when the openingscene—a spectacular action sequence reminiscent of Back to the Future3—was quickly left behind and supplanted with a real human story.

Awesome!

This review is from: Toy Story 3 (DVD) Not as fast-paced funny as the other two, but still a very good movie for all. Very entertaining and gives you some warm fuzzies too. Plenty of details in reviews of others so I'll just say that pre-schooler, teens and parents all liked it a lot.

One final playtime

Toy Story 3 proves that the third film of a series does not have to bethe weakest and that it can sometimes even be the strongest. Toy Story3 is just as magical as the first two offerings and the quality of theanimation is second to none. Dreamworks and Blue Sky should take notesfrom Pixar because they are the true masters of animation. All your favourite characters are back for one final adventure and wereally do feel for them as they try to make it back to the owner wholoves them. From Tom Hanks and Tim Allen right down to Jodi Benson thevoice cast is strong and the script is filled with the same heart andhumour that made the first two films in the series so loved. The final scene is the perfect way to end the film and the series.Although it is sad it is also hopeful because like the toys we knowthat by growing up bigger adventures lie ahead.Overall Toy Story 3 is a fantastic film filled with magic moments, strong characters and visuals that only Pixar can produce.

This is what I called an excellent movie!

I have to say, I'm not a big uber fans of toy story, I watched TS1 andTS2 and while I can say they're good, but they're not reallyunforgettable for me...Seeing the trailer of TS3 in the cinema, I wasn't expecting lots ofthings since I thought the setting will be kinda boring (come on thebackground story is they're going to be left off and they're going todo adventure only within the daycare), one of the reason I wanted towatch it is because it's in 3D, and I've watched all the prequel...It turned out to be one of the best movie experience that I had inyears! This is how an animation/family movie should be!I watched it without a lot of expectation, but it slapped me right inthe face and I can't take my eyes of the screen for the whole movie!!The opening was brilliant! and so how the story developed, it's justfun! I had great laugh! esp when mr potato head turned into tortillaand later comes back as a cucumber (which I think more like a giantjalapeno) and also when buzz go to espanola mode...and the ending...itwas also very good, I couldn't really tell what the ending would be andwhat woody is writing until Andy stopped in front of a normalhouse...and during the ending scene, I'm sure lots of the adultsaudience shed a bit of tears or had teary eyes :DThis is one movie that I would recommend to everybody, hell, I evenregister to IMDb exclusively just to say that this movie is this good!If you want to have a good laugh with your loved ones, or just byyourself, or with your family, this is the movie to go with!Great job Disney n pixaar! To infinity and beyond!!! 9.9 out of 10!
