An Unthinkable thing to watch

I'm Sorry, but this film is a joke. It had the potential to really make you question your own beliefs, butfrankly, the characters are about as consistent and as believable asStephen Hawking winning American Idol. I know they've attempted toportray them as constantly questioning their own judgement and moralesbut my God they just have no follow through in anything they say or do.As for this amazing dialogue I read about in another review, well, ican't help but feel they heard a different film. It's limited to abouttwo phrases; "Shut the door i have something to tell you" and "DO WHATYOU HAVE TO DO!" Pointless mini conflicts are set up among thecharacters that never really go anywhere. Jackson's character H decidesto reveal to us that this isn't a conflict between America andterrorism, but more so a personal battle between Sheen's character andhimself. Whoever breaks first wins. This is a nice concept and if ithad been portrayed better would have given the movie at least somepurpose. All in all, i could rant about this stinker all day, i have so much tosay about it but frankly i'll run out of allowed space. Basically, whatyou have is this, a film that on the surface appears to be an intensethriller designed to put the viewer in the position of the characterbut is so poorly done you miss the point entirely. If you go any deeperthan the blurb on the back you'll see someone clearly thought"terrorism is a threat today, we'll make a film about terrorism, that'll earn money!" Que a bunch of applauding fat cats with dollarsigns in their eyes.I would say don't watch it, but its so bad it has to be seen to bebelieved.

Typical Hollywood

This film is supposed to make you think about the choice of torture andmurder if that action could save millions of lives. It tries to portray "both" sides of the argument. In reality, the presupposition that the lesser of the two evils isbeing scoped is actually false. This type of torture is ongoing - not because we need to "save amillion lives" but rather to keep the powerful, powerful. The public needs these reasons to allow exceptions in law or to turn ablind eye in "such cases". But its just another public conditioninggame. To sacrifice 1 person to save a million is a no-brainer.But to torture for sadistic fun, to rape children and torture them tolet the parents hear them scream for sadistic fun - this is really whatgoes on every day by the forces of those in power against those who area threat to their power.Think Pharaoh and the slaughter of newly born boys. Nothing has changedin that respect. The good teachings found in Christianity and Islam go out the windowwhen it comes to maintaining power for the corrupt.Unfortunately, this movie will sway many to think that this form oftorture may be necessary to get results. That was the aim.Smokescreen.

A full timepass

UNTHINKABLE – CATCH IT ( B- ) Its one of the few movies which hasstrong cast and powerful script but yet somehow it never picked up frombeing more then just an average thriller. I don't know somehow havingsuch big names in the project still the production value of the movielooked really low. The movie gets little bore in the middle for sometime but picks up immediately. Carrie-Anne Moss and Samuel L.Jacksonwere strong and did a decent job. Michel Seen is incredible, heliterally blow me away with his portrayal of the Muslim Terrorist.Brandon Routh looked dashing but got wasted in a small unimportantrole. The movie is quite violent and torturous as well. I think it's agood time pass movie when you don't have anything else to watch. Therewas nothing else they could have done it to make it better, thedirector did pretty fair job.

What a Crap Ending (BOTH of Them!)

Well color me surprised...Another morality play where WE (the USA) are the Bad Guys. You'd think this was written & directed by a terrorist who was detained at Gitmo, then ordered to be released by our new Administration just in time to make a film like this to show us and the world how brutal and terrible Americans are and that we have little or no redeeming value. Just what I wanted to see on a Friday night! [sarcasm]As usual, Samuel L. pulls his load and that of several other non-memorable characters in the movie. He's the only reason I give Unthinkable 2 stars. There's a part of me that kept watching just to see what means of torture Jackson's character would employ next...And trust me, you won't be disappointed in this area! Carrie-Anne Moss was underwhelming to say the least with her character often looking like someone who can't decide whether to take the backroads or the freeway home...Then whichever way she chose, she turns around halfway there and decides she'd get home sooner if she just went the other way. I hate this for her too since she was always A+ in the Matrix films. She just kept bumping into herself in this one...None of the other characters even register, and yes, I'm including Michael Sheen. SPOILER: He plants Nukes in 3 US cities, intentionally gets caught so he can be tortured and has B.S. demands that hardly justify such extreme actions. Oh, and did I mention he's an American Citizen? So we have an American Black Ops Interrogator torturing an "American" terrorist who is planning to incinerate some 10 million Americans...Hmmmm. Any questions as to WHY this film wasn't released in American theaters? Wouldn't that kind of be, you know, UNTHINKABLE?SPOILER: What really gets me is the piss-poor ENDING of this movie. I mean, you invest an hour and a half to see if he discloses the location of the 3 bombs. Then in the final 5 minutes you find out there's a FOURTH bomb...Well, probably...Uh, MAYBE. But you're just going to have to figure that one out on your own. The film ends with Carrie-Anne walking outside with the terrorist's 2 children and gazing off into the distance...Roll credits. ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME?!?! I really HATE films that think they rise above everything to the point that they FAIL to finish the friggin story they pushed on you for an hour and a half! It's like an old Sat morn serial where they give you the cliffhanger so you show up next week to find out what happened. Only THERE'S NO NEXT WEEK with a feature-length film like this!!I imagine they got such a NEGATIVE focus group response from that cop-out ending that they quickly made an alternate ending for the DVD release - "The Extended Version". Well, it did extend the end by about 2 whole minutes so they could put yet another mind-frig on you. So now you're left with not one inconclusive ending to "contemplate", but TWO! And that truly is UNTHINKABLE. In fact, by the time I ejected the DVD, I JUST DIDN'T CARE if anyone blew up or not after being fairly engaged for an hour and a half! And that's simply a failure for a filmmaker, no ifs, ands or buts...

This is a cheap "B"-movie... maybe even a "C".

This movie has all the stigmata of a cheap, cheesy production. Let'sstart with the characters. The lady who is a Harvard Law graduate withhonors (seriously, could it get any cheesier? Did they consider a non-Harvard school?), who doesn't have a BF or kids, and who is dedicatedto her job. I can't comment on the cheesiness of Samuel L Jackson'sperformance, I think it's just natural. We get the ex-military man whowalks into a crowd of serious people wearing his undershirt whilelaughing and making fun of all the suited men who are frowning upon his"don't give a damn" behaviour. Then the story. Let's let aside the fact that according to the FBIofficial numbers, only 6% of terrorist attacks on US soil are conductedby Muslim extremists... Sure these 6% get 99% of the media coverage, which is why this movie has a "muslim" terrorist, and yet there aremany plain funny factoids, like how even though he was radicalized inan Urdu speaking country (Pakistan), he happened to pick up Arabic andFarsi and even be "fluent" in both. I think the writers were like,"Hey, what do they speak in Iran? Farsi? OK, let's make him speak bothArabic and Farsi".We get cheap scenes where Samuel and the lady take turns charging intorooms unauthorized (apparently all you need to gain access is "anger"),with words like "non-constitutional" thrown every now and then. And ofcourse a movie of this calibre is not complete without high-rankingofficers from different agencies fighting over jurisdiction every fewminutes. This movie has all the clichés. For example, since the bad "torturer"guy is black, they had to immediately counteract him with another"good" black soldier who was so ashamed of the torture, he removed hisname tag. Mind you, the scene shifts between the two black guys in thesame 30-second period. Also apparently, Harvard law graduates with honor resort to childish"silent treatment" defence mechanisms when disapproving of thesituation. I'm not talking about adult silence here, no, I'm talkingabout intentionally ignoring "Are you okay?" questions, looking theother way, and skipping out of the room. The kind black guy alsodemonstrates his discomfort the way an elementary student would, bylooking at a wall, and swaying his arms as he walks. As the nation isat the brink of destruction, the lady needs to hear the magic word(yeah, I mean "PLEASE") whenever the bad torturer demands her presence. She then proceeds to drag herself there while -I kid you not- rollingher eyes. Of course, she's wearing a dinner outfit throughout theentire movie, and when outdoors, she adds an FBI jacket to thisensemble. Yes, as nuclear annihilation is upon her, she's waltzingaround a crime scene in high heels and a skirt, complete withmeaningless "stop!" gestures. Other cheesy scenes include one trying to demonstrate the bad guy'shumanity... not through clever dialogue, not through deep thoughts, notthrough descriptive expressions, but using a scene where he talks tohis cute two kids and goes like "I love you kids, wanna hear a bedtimestory?" "Thank Daddy, we love you!"... See? He's a human after all! Whydon't you just plaster this message on the DVD? I was that close toexpecting a scene where the FBI agents "Google" information online. Inanother scene, the writers think a massage delivered by the good ladyis more realistic than a muscle relaxant shot to relieve theterrorist's neck spasm. Then there are lines delivered where you knowzero research went into them, like vague Qur'anic messages, and thelittle girl wearing a veil, with her brother -also out of the samecartoon- wearing some sort of Pakistani cap. All scenes come with extraSammy cheese, naturally.I mean, seriously, this movie should have gone straight to DVD... EDIT:I just found out this DID in fact go straight to DVD; a well deservedfate.

Brutal, asks some tough questions and excellent!...

For a film that, in most parts of the world, went straight to DVD, thisis surprisingly good. It deals with a very tough subject and asks somevery hard questions, but I found it quite enthralling. Topped off withsome really great dialogue and some really good performances, I'msurprised it didn't get a wider release. But more of my thoughts later, here's a brief summary first (summary haters and those that don't wishto know anything about the plot please extract some information fromthe prisoner while I write the next paragraph).Henry Herald 'H' Humphries, known as 'H', is a black ops interrogatorwho is called in when a white American Muslim says he has planted threenuclear bombs in cities across the country. The man, Steven ArthurYounger, has been captured and 'H' has to work with FBI agent HelenBrody to extract the location of the bombs. The methods 'H' uses arebrutal and Brody finds it hard to stomach. She tries to be the voice ofreason, but finds it more than difficult when her superiors condone themethods being used. I really don't want to say too much more, this oneis best watched with as little information as possible.First of all, hats off to the filmmakers, I found this a veryintelligent film that raises questions about torture, brutality, thejustification for terrorism, and many more. Very well made with sometremendous performances. In particular; Samuel L. Jackson as HenryHerald 'H' Humphries, Carrie-Anne Moss as Agent Helen Brody and it wasnice to see Michael Sheen in a truly dramatic role that reminded me ofwhat a fine actor he really is.There is a sequence at the beginning of the film where 'H' and Brodymeet before Younger is arrested that just seems superfluous to me. Itdoesn't really add much to the story and only serves to establish that'H' is very important to those in power and that his family isimportant to him. Not really necessary, but once we're past that it isquite an enthralling and a very thought provoking film. I must warnthough that there are some scenes of torture and violence that somepeople may find distasteful. If you can bare that then I can definitelyrecommend this one to you.My score: 7.8/10

The toughest, least compromising movie I have ever seen

The toughest, least compromising movie I have ever seen. Went straightto video because it was thought, rightly, that the American publiccouldn't take it. Not for the faint of heart, but if you watch, youwill never forget it. And the issues it raises both personally andpolitically for our country today are terrible and complex. Samuel L.Jackson., Michael Sheen and Carrie-Anne Moss have never been better.Extremely violent but not a moment is gratuitous. Look through yourfingers, look away but do not give up on this film. There is anextended version, 90 seconds longer at the end. Don't watch that one,or at least watch the "regular" version first.

GREAT Movie with Amazing Performances / **Spoiler-Free**

Breathless. That's how I sat through the entirety of this incredibly well-done timely and topical thriller. (Well, I did breath occasionally - 90 minutes is a long time...) "Unthinkable" puts the viewer in the squirmy frame of mind to start considering how far is too far when trying to save millions of lives from a deranged terrorist bent on nuclear annihilation of millions of innocents. What I find so brilliant about the film is that it manages to delve deeply into the very controversial issues of torture and interrogation methods for learning information critical to an immediate threat to innocent life without being preachy in either direction or ostensibly taking a side. It's a shame that so many of the previous reviewers of this film lack the ability to review it in such a manner, but this to me illustrates the significance of this film's accomplishment in exploring the issues at length without judgment either way.Make no mistake; in this film there is graphic depiction of torture, but to my mind it cannot be called gratuitous. For the viewer to really begin pondering the question of abandoning certain values that inevitably make us weaker versus abandoning our humanity, it is necessary, I believe, for us to understand exactly what it is we are condoning when we say "I think torture is acceptable if..."Even once we enter sort of a "comfort zone" with what we are witnessing, the film delves even further by taking the process into the "Unthinkable". Which of course is exactly the point. Can the "Unthinkable" suddenly become an option? Without drawing any conclusions, the film draws you along into the dark recesses of the human psyche and makes you inevitably face the question in your own mind as you watch the harrowing drama unfold on the screen. Regardless of what side you fall on, or even if you remain uncertain of *which* side you fall on at all, as I do, the ability of the movie to keep you thinking on the subject long after the credits roll is unquestionable.Moss and Jackson are positively brilliant, and the odd awkward scene or dialog cannot lessen the impact of this intense, provocative psychological thriller. An absolute must-see.

Good movie.. but not perfect!!!

This was a very entertaining and thrilling movie. It kept me interestedtill the end. The ending was very very realistic!!The question this movie asks is very much like its tag-line- Right andwrong no longer exists!!! When you are given any means to extract aninformation which could save a million lives, how far will you go???Very very relevant in todays set-up!!! Can we consider the terrorists who kill thousands of innocent people inname of their religion, as humans?? Should we give human rights tothese inhumane beasts???If we do not consider them as humans then whatsthe difference between them and us?? This movie did not have an answerto it. I don't think anybody has....Only one thing did not make sense Why did the terrorist got himselfarrested when he had planned everything and knew that he would gettortured? If it was to get his demands on air, he could have easilydone that without getting caught.. just like the other videos hereleased!!!

Controversial concept misses its chance to excel.

Unthinkable raises a question which has been an issue for many peopleall over the world for a very long time, and especially since 9/11.This question is, is it ever justifiable to torture an individual tosave the lives of many? And if the answer is yes, how far can you go?This issue is indeed a very sensitive subject and I think it takes gutsfor any filmmaker to put it out there in the open like Gregor Jordandid. Add to that the clever fact that he doesn't actually make achoice, but rather lets the audience decide on whatever they want tothink and feel, and you have a pretty gutsy and controversial concept. In a nutshell, this film is about a man of American descent who hasbecome a Muslim and has now, as an act of terrorism, planted 3 nuclearbombs in 3 major American cities which will go off in four days.Screenwriter Peter Woodward made some very tactical decisionsconsidering the characters in the story. They are all somewhatstereotypical, but this is no bother because they're all there for areason. Carrie-Anne Moss, as an FBI investigator, represents theconscience, the sensitivity and the struggle to make the rightdecision. Samuel L. Jackson is her polar opposite; the brutal, rational, stone cold "interrogator" who does what he does because he'sthe only one who can and willing to do it. The means he is willing togo to in order to get his subject to talk are almost as unwatchable asthey are unthinkable. This is quite possibly the most gruesome film Ihave ever seen, but that mostly has to do with the fact that the thingsyou see are in fact very real. This stuff does happen, and it's wayharder to stomach than any slasher horror movie because it sucks you inemotionally. Intelligence agencies and secret services the world overDO use these techniques, whether we like to believe it or not.All of this sounds like a great opportunity to address a major issueand stimulate people to really think about it, doesn't it? One wouldlike to think so, alas there is one big problem: bad writing. As hardas they try, the filmmakers do not, at any point, manage to evokesympathy on either side of the fence. Not with the terrorist, for thecomplete lack of background and motivation, but neither with the peoplewho try to stop him from executing his horrible plans that could claimthe lives of millions of people. Especially Carrie-Anne Moss'character, Brody, is quite a pain in the butt because even though herstruggle is understandable, quite simply because she's a decent humanbeing, she comes off as kind of naive because she – from a professionalpoint of view – is unwilling to sacrifice the life of one to savemillions. Her constant interference gradually becomes increasinglyannoying, up to the point that you just want her to get out of the way. However, Jackson's character H. turns out to be such a volatile psychothat you almost start to feel sorry for the terrorist! There is onescene in particular which throws you off so badly that you really don'tknow what to think anymore. I'll only say that it involves theterrorist's wife, and as much as I would like to warn you, I don't wantto give any spoilers, but you can take it as a warning anyway... It'llmake your skin crawl. The rest of the characters are about as lively and relevant ascardboard-cut-outs, I've already forgotten about most of them, but theydon't really matter to the story anyway. However, all of this couldhave still turned into a decent film, if it wasn't for one major flaw:the horrible ending. It's so incredibly hollow and unsatisfactory thatit leaves you wondering why the hell you just spent an hour and a halfwatching a man being tortured, if there was absolutely no point to it?!It could have been worthwhile if only the filmmakers had any resolutionto offer, but there is none. Why did the terrorist do what he did? Wedon't know. Did the agents accomplish anything? Not really. So what'sthe point? There is no point. It's just 90 minutes of torture, baddecisions and failure. That's it. Overall, it's not all bad. There is some really good dialogue anddespite aforementioned flaws and inconsistencies in the script, thereare a few really good scenes which do involve one into the minds of thepeople on screen. The actors do the best they can with what they'regiven, Samuel L. Jackson is as reliable as ever and Carrie-Anne Moss isconvincing in her role, which makes me sad to think that since TheMatrix and Memento, she hasn't really had any memorable roles, andthat's too bad because she is a good actress. Michael Sheen as theterrorist is good too, though it's hard for him to make his character a3-dimensional human being because the writers offered him no history orcharacter development whatsoever, but he definitely makes hischaracter's "in-the-moment emotions" work from scene to scene. So, final conclusion. I wouldn't really dissuade anyone from watchingthis film, you now know what to expect and it does offer someinteresting food for thought here and there, but you should reallyunderstand that this film is pretty challenging, mentally as much asphysically. And don't watch this if you're under 18. Seriously.

A very competent thriller

I should already be accustomed to find many famous actors in modestfilms which were released straight to DVD in the United States, but inthe case of the film Unthinkable that really surprised me, because inmy humble opinion, it has enough quality and "star power" to make itdeserving of a release in cinemas.I guess I will never understand thefilm distributors...Unthinkable is a very competent thriller with few action but abundantsuspense and noble intentions of examining difficult ethical issueswhich have become relevant in the "war on terror".The three maincharacters represent three different points of view, and we contemplatethe impossible problem from torture, its possible political utility andthe reasons for which it should (or not) be employed as a last resourceto save millions of lives through their eyes. Those people who have seenthe last seasons from the TV series 24 will be a bit familiarized withthis kind of discussion; however, screenwriter Peter Woodward refusesto present such a simple and limited vision of the problem like the onefrom 24.As well as some people will find the terrorist to be thevillain, other people will think like that about the relentless agentwho tortures the terrorist, and there will undoubtedly be other peoplewho consider the compassionate female agent as the enemy, by puttingthe life of many citizens in risk for submitting herself to archaicnotions of ethic.Who is right? Are there any limits for what should bedone in the combat against the "terror"? Unthinkable does not pretendto bring a clear and reassuring answer, but to make us think about themultiple moral vectors which influence in the decision. The result isthat this is a film which makes us think at the same time it is veryentertaining. The great Michael Sheen is famous for his amazing histrionicflexibility, interpreting characters which go from Tony Blair in thefilms The Queen, The Deal and The Special Relationship (by the way, thelast two ones mentioned were made for TV) to the vampire Lucien inUnderworld and its sequels, without forgetting about his brief comicalrespite in the TV series 30 Rock; Unthinkable lets us to see anotherfacet from his talent in a difficult character who is simultaneouslysincere and enough ambiguous to make us distrust from his lachrymoserevelations and impassioned pleas. And Sheen succeeded on allthat.Carrie Ann Moss is credible in her character, at the same time shebrings interesting nuances to it.And Samuel L. Jackson shows a genuinehumanity behind the cruelty from his character.I have to admit that there are a few inconsistencies in thescreenplay.I would have also liked the ending to go a bitfurther. However, in spite of that, I liked Unthinkable pretty muchbecause of its solid performances, its competent screenplay and thefact that it leaves the spectator thinking, so I think I can recommendit with confidence.

This movie certainly opened my eyes and made me think - whether I wanted to or not!

This is one of those movies where I wanted to turn away, but at the same time I wanted to watch it just as badly because I got so involved in the plot. I must say that anyone who is considering watching this should be warned it is intense, full of graphic violence, and at times stomach-turning. If you can get through all that, though, this is a very thought-provoking movie dealing with terrorism and torture. The premise of the film revolves around an American turned anti U.S. extremist with access to nuclear, bomb-making materials. He claims to have planted bombs in several major U.S. cities, and it is up to the FBI along with a brutal interrogator, with no limitations or qualms about using all forms of torture, to find out where the bombs are before they explode and kill millions of people. The one thing that I did not like about this movie involved the ending. It left some things hanging. The best part of the movie - two days after watching it, I am still thinking about it because there were so many things about it that were just unnerving.

Watch-able and Thought Provoking Action thriller

Unthinkable is another intriguing action thriller starring Samuel LJackson. There are similarities for me with his role in 'LakeviewTerrace' and our conscience is certainly pricked in how far aninterrogator would go to extract information from a terrorist. Thesimple story in this film is that a man known as Yusuf makes a videowhich ends up in FBI hands declaring he has planted three nuclear bombsacross America set to go off in four days time. Nobody knows if whatthe 'terrorist' is saying is true or not but the threat to nationalsecurity must be taken seriously and Samuel H Jackson plays H as theman given the task in conflict with Agent Brodie (played by Carrie AnnMoss) who would prefer less brutal tactics to be applied. The ending isa little disappointing and Jackson if anything 'overacts' in anarrogant way in this movie but I doubt if the movie will disappoint youeven if its not destined to win any awards. Michael Sheen is certainlyimpressive as the terrorist 'Younger' but despite the demands beingdeclared two thirds through the movie, we do not get to understand whatwas really motivating Younger/Yusuf to take the course of action hedid.

Well done movie, great acting but its unthinkable to watch it again.

Unthinkable is a movie that could lead every person who believes inhuman rights to think between right and wrong. Whether torturing aperson and the methods used in it are justified or whether human rightsshould be completely set aside because of the importance of theinformation that could save human lives. The scenes in the movie are really intense and won't recommend anybodyto watch this movie that can't stand gory movies. Some of the scenesare so intense that you, yourself would want to jump into the movie andstop what is happening. The directors really did a commendable job inmaking this movie so well. The main roles were well defined andcouldn't have asked better from these fine actors. Some of the scenes Iwould totally disagree with and thought the director could have donewithout them to save this movie to be released only on DVDs .On theother hand I think removing those scenes wouldn't have brought theintended message that the director wanted to give. But really it wasone sided message and there could have been different message given inthe end, like what if the person revealed the complete information buttorturing continues since the person who is torturing thinks there ismore to come. Actually I was relieved in the end that some of thescenes in the end that I thought may have happened didn't happen.I can't even comprehend on how a person could have done the editing ofthe movie as it involves seeing the movie again and again. I have seenit once and its unthinkable for me to watch it again.

Unthinkable ..... Not to See This Film

I had not really heard much about this film, and It's likely that it'snot going to be at the next "grammys" or "Oscar" awards. But It shouldbe. This In my opinion is one of the most thought provoking films Ihave seen in years. Without giving away anything, for the hopefullymillions who will buy this gem on DVD real soon, I will just state thatSamuel L. Jackson is as great in this as ANY film I have ever seen himin. But I really feel it is the story and not just the actorsportrayals that does' it. As many other reviewers here have alreadyposted about the storyline, not much to be said about that. I wouldjust like to say that Our government is to be APPLAUDED for not somehowkilling this film out've the gate. Also that any film makers in thisday and age can still let you walk away with more than a thimble fullof thoughts and feelings is to be greatly admired. I would like to addto the entire cast's credit, that all the acting was extremelycredible. My only quip with the entire film was the ending, which leftme almost screaming at the screen. I have seen almost every horror filmthat exist's .... This is the real horror of our time , I wouldstrongly urge only the most Stout of heart to actually view this. Andonly the intelligent. Kids need to be old enough to understand worldevents if they see it. Again this is one thought provoking film thatDOES'NOT insult any ones views, Muslim or any other god fearing person.Or any other atheist like myself. It merely shows what extents the"human race" can reach when called upon in an extraordinary situation.9/10 which could have easily been 10/10 had the ending not slapped mearound a bit ...

The tea party movement really isn't helping

Unthinkable is a not very satisfying variation on the old "good guy""bad guy" cop interrogation story theme. I totally advocates thehypothesis that modern Humans are the result of genetic intervention byGreys from another star system, and believes that there has been asustained program to crossbreed Greys and Humans over the centuries. The Mexico Starchild skull constitutes empirical evidence in support ofmy standpoint.I believe a lot of Western movie-watchers miss the point of Bollywood. If it's realism you want, watch the "Apu" trilogy, "Earth," "SalaamBombay" or "Fire," The typical image of a Grey, given that it wouldhave evolved on a world with different environmental and ecologicalconditions from Earth, is too physiologically similar to a human to becredible as a representation of an alien. The physical appearance of a Grey does not represent a real flesh andblood creature, but that it is instead a byproduct of the humanimagination. With the Grey's most distinctive features representingeverything that modern humans traditionally link with intelligence.³The aliens, however, do not just appear as humans, they appear likehumans with those traits we psychologically associate with intelligenceIf you were to plot the physical differences between an Tea Bagger anda human, and then were then to apply these differences directly to ahuman model, the resulting human would strongly resemble a Grey. Thisis a great movie but it will be a little much for the "light weights"as you can tell by some of the reviews. Samuel Jackson does it againwith his hard playing and tough roles.Bollywood is for light, escapist entertainment, and as such,Unthinkable is a violent, intelligent, suspense "mystery" of sorts.Greys, along with many paranormal myths and legends throughout history, are the telepathic manifestation of the collective consciousness of acommunity or culture. He proposes that the physical form of the Grey isthat of a malnourished human being, not an alien, and that Greys may bea manifestation of guilt felt by the developed world over the plight ofthe developing world. Doesn't feel like a Hollywood movie at all, nostupid happy endings and snot bubbles.

Psychological Brilliance

The movie is fantastic, the plot, horribly scary, and the acting, superb! Samuel L is brilliant as H, a government interrogationspecialist, who must do the "unthinkable" in order to protect millionsof American lives. This movie makes you think, and leaves you thinkingafterwards. Like others have written, many scenes leave you wonderingif that actually just happened. The ending left you thinking withoutcompletely wrapping everything up in a happy little package, which forthis movie works perfectly. Michael Sheen is brilliant as Younger, andreally brings the character alive, at some stages you begin to feelsorry for him, and then he flips right back and you almost feel guiltyfor even having second thoughts. Overall a fantastic movie, that reallymakes you think, with fantastic acting to go along with it. Highlyrecommend!

Propaganda. Propaganda. Propaganda.

I could just imagine seeing the usual trash threat that precedesmovies... I should let some federal authority know if this is anillegal copy and I will face some serious penalty or another blah blahblah. Nobody should pay to see this. I have to purchase legal copies ofgovernment propaganda just for the privilege. ....I would be moreconcerned about the morality of just watching this BS. Taking the mostextreme hypothetical situation is the kind of justification given to usby every barbaric culture that wishes to excuse its atrocities. Such anA-list of actors too. Nice to see where they all stand. Artists are notwhat they used to be eh?

Serious, powerful handling of a serious subject

This is a masterpiece that will rivet you and perhaps disgust you and perhaps make you think about serious matters in a very serious way. An American Muslim terrorist has hidden three nuclear bombs in three American cities. They are set to go off in three days. The terrorist purposely allows himself to be caught...and then the United States brings in a terrorist torture expert known as "H" (Samuel L. Jackson in a brilliant performance) to extract where the bombs are located. This movie is about the need and limits of torture. How far do you go in torturing one man in order to save millions? The scenes are graphic, the dialogue realistic. This is a powerful movie in all aspects. I can't guarantee everyone will like it but to me it is the best examination of what we need to win the war against terror.

Public Brainwasing

This may be the worst piece of crap I have ever seen. It's not bad theway starship troopers 3 are bad, or the romantic comedies are bad.But it is bad non the less. This is a movie to put into the public (most of all US-public) thattorture, unthinkable torture, are OK to prevent "terrorism".It is so obvious it should be embarrassing for the makers of the movie. It's not only the concept of the movie that is bad though, even if itis by far the worst. All character development are laughable and jumpsback and forth. Many things seem strange and go without explanation ofany kind.Anyone who thinks this is a good movie and by that most likely agreeswith it's message stopped being human and should really rethink his/herplace on this planet.
