A Must-See, Regardless Of Your Political Beliefs

The Joe Cool Review: V for Vendetta(2006)Starring: Natalie Portman as Evey Hammond, Hugo Weaving as V, StephenRea as Finch and John Hurt as Adam SutlerPlot: In a future where America is destroyed and England is the toppower, it is run by a totalitarian government, with freedoms taken awayand people of different religions, political beliefs and sexualpreferences persecuted. A lone man codenamed V uses terrorist tacticsto convince the people of England there needs to be a change.Openers: I had heard many good things about this, but also some badones. I myself was torn because it was from the creators of the Matrix, but I thought it may be too political for my liking. I am happy to saythat V for Vendetta eliminated my worries and was everything I washoping it would be. It's an action film with messages about freedom andhow corrupt governments are bad. Well that's basically the gist anyway. Some people say this movie defames our own US government and some sayit glorifies terrorism. I disagree, but I'm not going to get into apolitical debate as this is a movie review. The Good: The movie tells a very well-crafted story. It shows you howthe futuristic government is corrupt, everything from controlling themedia to banning controversial works of art, music and literature.Everything and everyone that the leader of the government doesn't likeis either banned or black-bagged(arrested). If you don't like it,you're arrested. If you break curfew, you're arrested. In fact thereare images here that remind me of the Third Reich(when Sutler iscampaigning his troops outside of Parliament in flashback sequences)and the Holocaust. That just shows you what kind of government you aredealing with here. The two main characters and back story for why thisall came to be is fleshed out and I couldn't see any real plot holes.Natalie Portman did well, as did the supporting cast, but my main focusis on Hugo Weaving, who plays V. You might remember him as Agent Smith. For someone that can't show facial emotions because of the fact he isalways behind a mask, Weaving still manages to emote with body languageand the tone of his voice. That takes some talent. He flowed throughhis scenes with ease and made you care for his character. Portman againdid very well, although she did have some trouble keeping up theBritish accent. Also, the fight scenes are really well-done(consideringwho directed this it's no surprise) and there is plenty of bloodshed. And, I won't give it away but the final sequence is a sight to behold. The Bad: This movie is not perfect, however. While the story is solidit does not flesh out some of the minor characters as well as I wouldhave liked. The villains are just that, corrupt government officials. Iat least would have liked more back story on Sutler. Also, this moviehas a flaw in that regardless of whether or not you agree with it'spolitical motivations, it does tend to get a bit preachy. It doesn'tfail to hammer the message and by the time the movie reaches it'sclimax you're thinking, "Okay, I get it. Corrupt governments are bad."The movie can have a message, but it shouldn't try to force people toaccept it. I would also have appreciated some sort of epilogue, but Ican understand why it wasn't included. The Ugly: A guy falls right on his head and neck in a spot that made mecringe. Also scar tissue from being burnt is never nice to look at. Iwon't say who but it was pretty nasty. Nothing else of note for thiscategory.Final Verdict: V for Vendetta was an enjoyable two hours and certainlya movie I'd pay to see again. Who would think an action movie could beso politically motivated and blend them both well? This one pulls itoff. Highly recommended.Rating: ****1/2 of *****

Amazing film, but flawed

Ever since V for Vendetta was announced in early 2005, I was veryintrigued by it. I never read the comic-books, but the premise seemedinteresting. And when I saw the trailers, I became very excited aboutthis film. And to my surprise, the film actually met the highexpectations I had for it.The thing that makes the film is Hugo Weaving. His acting is justamazing. His voice, his movement, everything was perfect. NataliePortman does well, but Hugo just steals the show. There was a bit of comedic lines, but they were very dark and notreally that funny. The action was good, though the last sequence was a bit cheesy(its likebullet-time fighting, but it just doesn't work). People complained by alack of action, but I felt it had enough action. Maybe one more 1-2minfight scene, but that's about it. The movie was so intense that itdidn't really need more action. The thing that I didn't like about the film was that it started to fallapart on the third act. Everything became WAY too predictable(i mean, sometimes you kind of know how things are going to turn out, butsometimes its just like you know EXACTLY how its going to happened). The film became a typical Hollywood film with a typical Hollywoodending. While it wasn't a bad ending, it just wasn't on-par with thefirst two acts. And in my opinion, the ending is probably the mostimportant part of a film. I mean, if you can't end the movie right thenall the stuff you did before doesn't matter as much. But overall, it was an amazing, but flawed film. Great acting, greatdrama, and great action. Could have used a better ending, but not everyfilm is perfect.8/10

5 Min. Long Chills.

Not in a good bit has there been a movie I could not wait to review, that the second I got home I sat down at my computer and startedtyping. If you looking for a fantastic movie, action packed, deep inplot, and makes a statement that most think about but most cannot putto words, let alone movie. V for Vendetta was a movie for the ages thatI can almost guarantee will stand up to the test of time and go down incinematic history as one of the greats. The Wachowski brothersdefinitely made up for the abomination of the 2&3 matrix with thisamazing work. This movie reminds me a great deal in the book 1984, its message isbeyond political. At first glance a viewer would see it as a messageagainst conservatism, but as the movie unfolds you see it is againstthe opposite end of the spectrum too. It personifies the problems inboth ends of the system. It is a message on what the world will becomeif we keep heading in the direction we are going in. America isdestroyed from civil war, England has become ruled in Dictatorship. Allthat can fix what the would is heading to is a lone martyr to spark thegood moral of all people, to realize that the world needs a huge changeand fast. V, victim in cell 5. The one survivor of a terriblegovernment controlled "accident" is this martyr. He makes a nationrealize that only they can change what's happening, it had to startsomewhere, and it started with him. V is an artist, a scholar, theperfect man to be the front for such an epic revolution such as this. One who goes to see this movie, me included, think that this will bejust another comic made into a movie, good for the action but not worthmuch more. But you leave the theater with a great deal more then whatyou expected. You leave in shock of getting something you didn'texpect. That is what this movie is. Something you don't expect. I havegotten chills in movies before but I have never gotten them to theextent of watching the entire masked population of England march to seeParliaments destruction. You go expecting to see just another superhero, but what you get is a normal man who just has a message, an idea, and ideas cannot be destroyed. instead of your super hero you get avery determined victim who is more of a villain in his own right. Itshard to express but, he is a different, almost refreshing antagonistfor a movie such as this. One of the things that set this moviesrealism was how very possible all the events could be, in some form oranother. It is set in the near future, and is all very believable witchmakes you think...what is our world really coming to.This movie is very political, but it is incredibly hard to disagreewith. This is due to the fact that its statement is against more thenjust conservatism, or liberalism, or anything, it has messages againsteverything so in some points of the movie there are things you willagree with, and that you will absolutely disagree with, but it is thatthat makes you realize the full ideals that this movie has. In the rootof it, it is against the fact that our world is divided but beliefs.Something that our world should be joined by. It is a statement that ifwe are to stay divided then we are headed down a path that is oblivion(as they put it in a movie.)After seeing this movie you leave with more then you thought you weregoing to go in with. Something UN-expected. Something fantastic.Something that will stay with you. I found myself yelling "Hell yes!"at the scream in some parts. It is superb in its on right. I give it everything I have. This is not a movie soon to be forgotten."A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having"

A good American style film based on an even better story

The positive: An action movie that has a story, smart dialogue and acompelling characters. They kept the poetry of V's speech. The story ofValerie is the soul, the true idea of the v of vendetta story. The factthat V does in fact die and that chaos (the destruction of Parliment)still happens. In a traditional film the cop would have published thedoctor's diary and the bad guys would have been brought down in public. The reality is that sometimes justice is brutal and that the bad guysare often brought down only at the expense of innocent lives.natalie portman is insanely appealing and attractive. Hertransformation was believable. The Negative The romance story between V and Evey was totally wrong. Vis not a man, he is an idea. As a man he is focused on one thing, personal anarchy. The whole romance is unbelievable and totally againstthe theme of the story. The bad guys were too bad, there was no moral gray which is more trueof true believers. Having the woman of course be the only one withregret is such an American movie convention. While it worked to set it in the current context of "terrorism" asexcuse to take away civil liberties the original story was aboutanarchism not about liberal politics vs conservative politics.

vapid, vacuous and valueless void

I can not believe this film is number 237 in the top 250 films of alltime. Stop and think here people - are we really saying this film isbetter than Doctor Zhivago? No, definitely not - this is the worst kindof film - sententious, moralising rubbish rammed down our throats withnothing but a few slick visuals to help the disgusting medicine godown. And trying to draw some conclusions about the state of anyone's nationfrom this extended pop video is meaningless - you may as well seek yourpolitical philosophy in the Muppet Show.I like Natalie Portman, but she was wooden and unbelievable in this -probably not her fault - I mean, a rebirth scene with arms outstretchedin the pouring rain? Pleaseeee, rain on no more clichés. There wasn'tenough violence or special effects to make up for sitting through thistwaddle. I would have left after 30 minutes, but my daughter wanted tosee the end - I could have told her by then what it was going to be!This is a turkey of the highest order, and should be nowhere near thetop 1000 films, never mind the top 250. Forget it.

Remember remember V for Vendetta...

V For Vendetta is based on a graphic novel (comic) by Alan Moore, whowas also the creator of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and FromHell. Much like those two films, V for Vendetta has it's roots inBritish history as V takes his inspiration from possibly the most wellknown terrorist in our history, Guy Fawkes. Even though his story onlyplays a very small part in the film, it's actually nice to see such animportant piece of our history finally getting a accurate mention in amainstream Hollywood movie. The film is written (but not directed) by the Wachowski brothers, whowere also responsible for the grandiose mish mash that was the MatrixTrilogy and much like those films, V For Vendetta is a film that's madeto make you think, question and discuss. Some may argue (as my wifedid) that it glorifies terrorism and maybe it does, but I guess that'sall in the interpretation. The plot revolves around a man consumed by Vengeance, a man with atortured past, that is driven to fight for his and his people's freedomin a fascist country, where the government determines what you thinkand feel. His ultimate goal is to unite the people under his banner, destroy the government and ultimately to blow up the Houses OfParliament, much like Guy Fawkes had attempted to do all those yearsago.Although the plot is well constructed and some of the performances areexceptional the movie does have it's failings. It's leading lady(Natalie Portman) seems bizarrely miscast as a an English girl that Vsaves, enlightens and eventually falls in love with. Even though shedoes excellent work in the second half of the movie, the first halfleaves a lot to be desired. There is also a distinct lack of emotionalconnection with her, something that would have helped drive home thethemes and ideas that run through the movie. Fortunately though, V (Hugo Weaving) is simply fantastic, proving thateven a man wearing a mask can display a multitude of emotion. I'm ledto believe that he wasn't first choice for the role and even as greatas he is here, I can see why. The biggest problem with casting Hugo isthe sound of his voice or rather it's because that voice is soreminiscent of his most iconic character to date, Agent Smith. However,if you can push that thought to the back of your mind, you will enjoyhis performance immensely. The supporting cast also do good work here, especially Stephen Fry, John Hurt and Tim Piggot-Smith.Although the film deals with very serious issues there are someenjoyable moments of humour, especially one involving Stephen Fry andBenny Hill. The action is also well executed and the special effectswhile mostly minimal are also applied perfectly. Overall, it probablydeserves to be seen on the big screen, especially for the final scenesand if you like films that make you think, this is definitely for you.Almost great, definitely good.

I cannot recommend this movie enough!!!

"Viola! In view a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as bothvictim and villain by the vestitutes of fate. This visage, no merevinear vanity is a vestige of the vox populi now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone fixation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and and vidilant vermin vanguarding vice and vouch saving the violently vicious and voraciousviolation of vorasure... The only verdict is vengeance, a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and voracity of such shallone day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verrily thisviciousuage of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add thatit's my very good honor to meet you, and you may call me 'V'" Bestmovie of the year (so far) and by far, the most entertainingintroduction I believe I have ever seen. While it does stray a bit from the Vertigo graphic novel, it was stillclose enough to entertain fans, and, in fact, still able to get thepoint across....and yes... to get the quote perfect, I had to see it like, 5 timesin 2 days...Take a friend to see it. Take two. Take your extended family (includingthat uncle that you think gets a little too friendly with your sister.)

Interesting at times though overrated

Rated R for strong violence and some language.I saw V For Vendetta a few months ago on the movie network. It was apretty good movie. The acting was good and the storyline was good aswell. The film was pretty strange and I don't think it should be ratedso highly in IMDb's Top 250 films list.It is based on the graphic novelof the same name. The film takes place in the future and is about aterrorist named V, he saves a girl from being raped one day and in turnshe becomes his assistant though initially not wanting anything to dowith V.The entire film makes a jab at politics.V For Vendetta is afairly interesting film and I recommend it.

Slick, but still chaotic

The Wachowski Brothers' stab at stylistic sociopolitical commentary isvisually arresting, compelling stuff, a fine homage to its graphicnovel source. It's artful, if perhaps missing a dash or a smidge ofsubtlety, but not so much that one is entirely distracted from thesomewhat pedestrian, familiar plot.V is a vigilante, a lone avenger who wears a Guy Fawkes mask and wantsto extol the masses of a somewhat-futuristic London to rise up againsttheir oppressors, throw off the yoke of totalitarianism, and watchtheir favorite buildings explode. It's the near future. Britain no longer has a queen or prime minister;instead, it has a chancellor, an ominous man named Setler (John Hurt)who appears on giant TV screens, a la Big Brother. And freedoms havebeen seriously curtailed, especially free speech, owing to threeterrorist incidents in which nearly 100,000 people die. This leads tostate-controlled media, secret police, and so-called black baggers, themen who come in the middle of the night to round up people deemed Badby the government. When a young Londoner named Evey (Natalie Portman) is caught out aftera state-imposed curfew by the secret police and is then attacked bysaid defenders of the realm, a debonair, eloquent masked marvel springsto her aid, dispatching with her aggressors with all due speed. Hequotes Shakespeare and looks like a Musketeer, complete with swirlingblack cape and superpointy blades, but wears a portentous mask - thatof noted British rebel/hero Guy Fawkes, who once tried to blow upParliament some 400 years ago. The mysterious man rescues Evey andspirits her away to his secret lair. Later, he shows her part of hisplans as a famed statue detonates."You can call me V," the man says, and although the letter stands forVendetta in the title, it's also a good stand in for Vengeance,Vituperation, and Vanquishment. Clearly, V is harboring some kind ofgrudge on someone, and he's going to try to turn the country upsidedown, show the populace how corrupt and Fascist their government -which they've elected - has become. He's an anarchist at his heart, itseems, but could there also be a more personal vendetta rampaging inhis mind? V sees Evey as a necessary ally and enlists her in hiscause, an entreaty she accepts. But is she willing to go as far as Vis? From the scared-kitten look on Portman's face through much of themovie, one would assume she's not quite sure she's made the rightchoice. At times, the movie is very powerful propaganda, demanding that theviewer draw parallels between the celluloid events and those occurringin the real world today. But it's not heavy handed in its execution;everything that we see on screen is quite plausible, at least in thecontext of the fictional futuristic London. There are some similarities between this film and the Matrix series, also by the Wachowskis, including the overall look and feel of the setdesigns and the idea that we're all being controlled by someone orsomething else. But unlike The Matrix, V for Vendetta isn't terriblydeep of a movie; it's not a movie that invites endless philosophicaldiscussions about Who We Are and Why We're Here. We know just enoughfor the sake of the movie, and we're not left wanting to know more. There aren't many twists, nothing to keep your brain hopping along, always wondering what might come next. There IS one big twist, however. Some viewers might think of it as ashaggy-dog outcome, though, and others might completely buy into it.It's the kind of twist that may well make you scratch your head andwonder if the actions in the twist were really all that necessary - theold ends-justifies-the-means adage.Hugo Weaving, so wonderful as Agent Smith in the Matrix movies, playsV, and although we never once get to see Mr. Weaving's face, he turnsin a powerful, commanding performance. You can feel what V feels, andwithout the crutch of a countenance on which to make expressions, thisis fantastic acting indeed. Portman is okay as Evey, but her characterwasn't sufficiently substantive, which is my way of saying I don'tthink it was Portman's fault. I think she did an admirable jobconsidering what she had to work with; in this movie, Evey isrelegated to less-than-sidekick status. And I would be remiss if I did not add that the final scene is bothsatisfying and unsatisfying, which makes it a little frustrating. Partof it grabbed my heart and made it soar, but part also did seem a tadexpected.V for Vendetta is, at times, invigorating, exciting, revolutionary, andterrifying, but it's a little slicker than its subject material shouldindicate.

Alan Moore can't catch a break

Now maybe my harsh feelings stem from the fact that I am a fan of theGraphic Novel. I will be the first to state that my appreciation forthe source material may cloud my judgment of the film. However I havetired to stay objective. I went in hearing only good things, and myonly wish was for it not to suck. Despite everything, I came outdisappointed. This isn't just me picking on changes to the comic.Cinema is a different art form, thus adaptation is necessary, andessential to the experience. Still I can't help feeling that this movieis simply.... watered down.************SPOILER'S AHEAD****************** I have to agree withnineissix, everything I loved about the comic is gone. Gone is theVicious Cabaret. Gone is the emotion and depth of the story. I've heardpeople stating that the plot is complicated and deep. Yes it is, but itis deeply spoon feed to the audience and is nothing more thanexposition to further the plot. There is no sense of mystery to thismovie. The story doesn't gradually unfold; it just hits you over thehead like a hammer until its done. I feel all the characters weregravely disserviced. Evey is (despite Portman's efforts) is still notthere on the page to be a fully developed character. The "torturesequence," one of the most powerful segments of the novel (and one ofthe most faithfully rendered in the film) doesn't have half the impactit should have because Evey really isn't there. And we don't see muchof her imprisonment to make it feel worse. I mean what happens really?Shaved head, verbally abused, (I believe she is beaten) but for somereason it doesn't have the gravitas it should. Instead we have amontage until she is free. And the toilet paper note (a point thatnearly broke my heart in book) is delegated to the cheesiest flashbacksI've seen in recent cinema. Honestly! I'm glad that in the future ARRIlight equipment will be around to help shoot movies. And let us talk about V. I feel that Weaving (like all the actors) dida fantastic job with what they had. Hugo sold the mask and thepresence. But honestly they lost some of his mystique. The first visionof V rescuing Evey is so poorly handled as far a fight sequence goes, that it's beyond words. You have no sense of what he's doing (and notin the Batman Begins, whoaican'ttellwhatbatman'sdoingbuthe'stotallymoppingthefloorwiththoseguys badass type way). And his firstmonologue is simply laughable. And maybe that's my problem. Too much of the movie is laughable, andthat's the last thing the comic was. It was dark and intelligent, filled anarchy and fear and mystery that hung over the whole piece andI don't feel that tone in this film. V serving eggs is goofy. End ofstory.Did anyone else find the music horrid? What was that crap playing onthe jukebox before their dance? Where's the classical music? I foundthe score overbearing and the source music oddly out of place. The songthat was playing over the end credits cements that point. How do younot end with the 1812 overture? You're already playing it! I heard AlanMoore bashed the screenplay. I don't blame him. Nothing is worse thansomething that should have been good. The filmmaker's hearts were inthe right place, but their execution is something left to be desired. They got the aesthetic, but not the soul.Sorry Alan, it was better than League of Extraordinary gentleman, butthat isn't saying much.

Where is the Anarchy?

In V for Vendetta, a masked hero attacks the institutions and leaders of state that rules with fear, torture, incarceration, and propaganda and inspires the masses to rise up and overthrow this morally bankrupt government.But--then what? Was V fighting for a better government?Or NO government? While the movie seems to leave V's politics at "Freedom! Forever!," in the graphic novel V passionately tells us that a free society is one where we don't cede our power to government, where we don't let leaders run our lives. The V movie ads say "People shouldn't be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people." To the V of the graphic novel, government shouldn't just be afraid of the people......it should be ELIMINATED by the people.

Revolution Now!

I had high expectations for this film when I shelled $8 at thetheaters. End result; they were exceeded greatly. The film has greatunderlying messages in it, most notably tolerance and understanding. The acting by Portman (who still remains attractive when bald), HugoWeaving and John Hurt are some of the more memorable performances ofthis year. The Wachowski Brothers have taken great care to follow thegraphic novel and modernizing it to the 21st century. Yet, I leaves meto wonder if the film would have a greater or lesser impact if weremade in 2003-2004. The similarities between the government and the onedepicted in the film are staggering; There is extreme prejudice againsthomosexuals and the leader of the government is an conservativeChristian with a lust for power. (Please keep in mind that everyChristian is not a Republican and many have compassion, tolerance andunderstanding like myself) This film can be used as a benchmark to openthe hearts and minds of many. A triumph in its own right, but it wouldhave been more powerful if released around the 2004 election.

Thrilling picture of the near future

Amazing and exact picture of what is going to happen to the Westernstates (and nations) in the near future. This is so sad. I see - notwhere I live, thank God and so far - many details of police societiesright now, as we speak - such things as half a million surveillancecameras in London alone and a system that tracks license plates ofevery vehicle on the roads of United Kingdom. Online, 24 hours a day.Police brutalities in New York during Republican convention in 2004...These things do not happen here, but this brilliant, charismatic, verystylish and extremely true movie leaves a warning for anyone who wantsto live free in all the possible meanings. Ideas are indeedbulletproof.

A Tragic Waste

Based on the 1980s graphic novel by Alan Moore, "V for Vendetta" hadtremendous potential: A fabulous source book, top-notch actors, andbrilliant directors. And then they blew it. The graphic novel, whichwas more libertarian than liberal, was very even minded, not trulysiding with either point of view. It contrasted two extremes: anarchismand fascism, and let the reader decide which was preferable. Mostimportantly, it was most definitely about England, not America. Thiswas their first mistake. They changed the plot to appeal to modernaudience, but what they ended up doing was injecting US politics into aBritish story. Not nearly as even minded either, the film completelysides with the title character, who has gone from a libertariananarchist to a liberal revolutionary. Worse still the plot line's backstory is now a thinly veiled analogy of the 9/11 attacks though theeyes of conspiracy theorists. A tragic waste, considering the film'sgood points. The acting was phenomenal, especially Hugo Weavings, hadto do the entire film masked, depriving him of the benefit of facialexpression. The special effects were impressive too, reminiscent of theWachowski Brothers work in "The Matrix". Unfortunately all this is lostin the poor storyline, which reduces this potentially operaticmasterpiece to a sloppy political satire.

A slap in our face

A standard has been set for those of us who live in a society of fear."V for Vendetta" was clearly made as a slap in our face- something towake us up from our lazy fat slumber; a shot of adrenaline against thenarcotic filth that our society fills us with every day. Many themes run through this movie, many borrowed from works we'vealready at least heard of. Vengeance, courage, truth, true freedom.Though the themes are not original, and even some of the movie isreminiscent of some classic works, the presentation is fantasticallyoriginal and new. It's a reminder of what we have and what we're slowlygiving away. This is something everyone should see.

Remember, Remember this Great work of Art...!!!

The movie really was a work of art, one of those that could be found in"V's" home, it may be unappreciated but really if you look closely andcomprehend all the detail you may understand the sheer great quality ofthis film...It is for-golden-sure Oscar MATERIAL... the Acting wasbrilliant.. Hugo Weaving brought to "V" such emotion, feeling andintelligence, he gave to it what most actors can't, you didn't even seehis face yet he was masterfully a strong character... And no one couldforget Natalie Portman's role in this movie either, she has blossomedfrom an miracle child actor to a respectful adult actor filled withover flowing talent and very inspirational acting... The "V's" musicscore for his terrorist acts brought so much across to the audience, itwas spectacular and the visual effect to go with the music was alsoawe-inspiring... It has a lot of emotion in the extremely detailedstory line and makes you really look deep inside your self and reflecton your government, country and the world.. WHAT IF? this trulyhappened... "V is my father, my mother, my brother, you , me, he is every one"(Eva) ...That really was a memorable quote and shows how the world mayseem defeated and impossible to live in but you just have to have hope, believe in your self and others and most of all stick together andnothing will stop you... Be a "V"...!!! Excellent movie filled with adrenalin, goosebumps and shivers down theentire body...!!! ...but find out for your self... INSPIRING!!!

This is a sexless, pathetic excuse for amovie. The character of "V" is simply retarded. His mask doesn't moveand every word from his mouth is second grade poetry. How this trash isin the top 250 is beyond me. Uwe Boll couldn't even create somethingthis bad. It's sad to hear Cat Power and Antony and the Johnsons on thesoundtrack. "V for Vendetta" is a complete waste of studio money andtalent. Needless to say, I hate this movie and you should too. This ispossibly the worst movie ever shot on film. I'd rather eat my owntesticles than think of this garbage.

"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."

We here in the United States have been blessed with the right to tell others what our opinions are concerning politics, religion, and other areas of life. While we may disagree with one another, we are still able to live a free life with our own beliefs and lifestyles. But what if that was not the case? What if, instead of living the way you wish, you had to live the way the government tells you to? What if you lived under totalitarian rule, and to speak out against your government was a crime punishable by death? What would you do then? Would you live in fear, or fight against the oppression? This is the question raised by "V for Vendetta," a powerful look at life under total rule, a world similar to George Orwell's "1984." The Wachowski Brothers, coming off the success of their "Matrix" films, have produced a rousing, exciting, and amazing story of one man who decided to fight against the system that left him scarred. Hugo Weaving gives an exceptional performance as V, who uses terrorist tactics against the government, but never against innocent people. Natalie Portman gives another fine performance as Evey, a person whose parents were murdered by the government, and who finds courage with V's help. The rest of the cast, including Stephen Rea and John Hurt, give wonderful supporting performances. The storytelling is fantastic, while the action sequences and visual effects are thrilling and visually-stunning. And while some may question V's actions, his actions rally the people against the corrupt government of Britain in 2020."V for Vendetta" is a thrilling film, full of exceptional storytelling, great performances, and thrilling action sequences. Fans of the graphic novel will not be disappointed!Movie/DVD Grade: A-
